  1. Feb 11, 2010 Robber gets jail and cane By Elena Chong A MAN who robbed a jogger of his singlet and shorts was sentenced to two years' jail and six strokes of the cane on Thursday. Loh Tzu Chye, 30, was found guilty after a trial of robbing the 27-year-old man at Ang Mo Kio West Garden along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 on Sept 8 last year. He admitted to a charge of appearing nude by being clad in a G-string underwear near Block 23 St George's Road a month later and was given a concurrent one-month jail sentence. The prosecution led evidence from the victim who testified that he was jogging at the Ang Mo Kio West Garden when he was shocked to see Loh running towards him, wearing his underwear. Loh came closer and told him, at knifepoint, to remove his singlet and shorts. Fearing for his life, the victim handed over his singlet and shorts to Loh, who pulled him into the forested area. But the victim broke free and ran, ignoring Loh's shouts. Just then, the victim's girlfriend who had been waiting for him came and was shocked to see him in his briefs. She left and came back with his clothing. Loh, who has theft convictions, could have been jailed for up to 10 years and given not less than six strokes of the cane for robbery. ST Link I blamed ST for making me ROFLMAO at office today......

  3. THE motor trade is keeping the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board busy. Just a month after it wrapped up a two-year-long audit of the industry and recovered tens of millions in unpaid contributions from motor companies, the provident fund is taking a motor trader to court for wrongful deduction. Cycle & Carriage Fulco, a Mitsubishi and Kia dealer, had allegedly deducted the employer's share of CPF payments from its employees' sales commissions. Read the full story in Saturday's edition of The Straits Times. anyone has the full details? cant find it on saturday hardcopy leh. those with online access can post the news? thank you.
  4. Read all about it. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/c...icle6842888.ece Yes I mean really do read about it and not just see the teacher's face. She had a positive influence on the girl. Most important of all, not abusive in the relationship.
  5. Had lunch around Amoy road sometime this week and was sitting near 3 girls also having lunch. One of them is a quite rotund, unpleasant looking loudmouth NTU accountancy grad (probably 21-22yrs old) she was bitching very loudly about how lame her senior in the company is. That he has worked 10 yrs and is still so lowly paid. Cursing him and degrading the fella in public. In a loud bitchy haolian tone, she also declared that ACCA is no big deal and that she was a grad and only need to pass 4 papers to get it. the other 2 girls were clearly lower educated as they sort of hung their heads quietly as this bitch spoke. Felt like bursting out laughing but kept my composure so i wont waste my curry rice. Then she carried on emphasizing that she is a "fu*cking" grad and implied that she can earn lots very quickly and climb to the top etc etc... the usual crapsh*it lah as you guys know..... Is our younger generation really headed towards such a path? Maybe i'm getting old. anyway, gonna have a Bolivar Royal Corona now.
  6. it's finally here....a woman. no details yet. reported in Reuters and just flashed on CNA
  7. Read this in the forum.....I feel sad for the state of helplessness in Singapore for the lesser mortals amoung us. http://forums.asiaone.com/showthread.php?t...4&page=6#52 Dear forummers, Thank you for your interest in this article. I am the son of this the victim, mr Lee. I have been trying to get witnesses to come forward to help me prosecute the aggressor by pasting posters on on the walls. Unfortunately, none have come forward. When I interviewed the hawkers present, I believe many of them genuinely did not see what happened. That is because they mentioned usually before acts of violence, there will usually be shouting first and they would notice. Many of them told me, the moment they saw anything, my father was already on the floor, bleeding onto himself and the road. From here, it was clear that the conversation was never that aggressive as my father did not shout at the attacker. But the attacker simply did not manage to control his temper. I am reading that many of you want to exact revenge on this attacker, and you don't know even know my dad. Imagine how I feel as his son. I feel even worse that the police has said that we need to actively apply to the subordinate courts for a magistrate to approve for an investigation to begin. This is inspite of the man actually admiting loudly to the police on scene that he was the one that hit my dad. I implore all -please do not take justice into your own hands. It is not the right way and the ethical way. Let the courts do its work and please do not take vigilante actions. But I will ask for anyone who was there on the morning of 13th May Wednesday to PM me and come forward as a witness so that I can help my father get justice. The person was a man in his early 40s, driving a black toyota camry by the car plate number SJF8233S. He was wearing black business pants and a light coloured business shirt. He was there with his wife and a maid. If you did see this incident, I hope you can help me out. Thanks all Kelvin

  11. March 16, 2009 Novena 'exorcism' case Ordered to pay $372,000 By Khushwant Singh Madam Amutha Valli Krishnan had unsuccessfully sued the church, two priests and six church goers for psychiatric ailments resulting from what she claimed was an exorcism ritual. -- ST PHOTO: ALBERT SIM MADAM Amutha Valli Krishnan, 53, the woman who lost her suit in the 'exorcism case', has to pay costs of more than $372,000 for taking on the Novena Church. She had unsuccessfully sued the church, two priests and six church goers for psychiatric ailments resulting from what she claimed was an exorcism ritual. She may have to pay a further $92,600 in disbursements if the Supreme Court registrar orders her to. After meeting her lawyer, Mr R.S. Bajwa, as well as the lawyers for the defendants in chambers on Monday, Justice Lee Seiu Kin ordered Madam Valli to pay the six church goers $300,000 in costs and disbursements, which include court filing fees and other paperwork. She also has to pay $67,700 for disbursements to the church and Father Simon Tan, and another $5,000 for disbursements to Father Jacob Ong. Other disbursements, amounting to $34,600 for the church and Father Simon, and $58,000 for Father Jacob, comprising largely of costs in getting psychiatrists to testify for the defence, were referred to the Supreme Court registrar to decide if the amount is fair and should be paid by Madam Valli. Senior Counsel Jimmy Yim, who acted for Father Simon and Mr Tito Issac for the church and Father Jacob had not asked for their fees to be included in the costs. This could probably amount to $1 million for the 32-day trial for the two teams of lawyers. 'If the lawyer does not charge his client fees, then he is not entitled to the costs' said Mr Bajwa. MORAL OF THE STORY - DUN TAKE ON THE HIGHEST COURT, AKA HEAVEN! Serves them bloody right

  16. IT WAS their bench which they would sit on almost every night chit-chatting. But on Saturday night, Mr Mohammad Anis Kamsani and his fiancee Nurliah Sulaiman's meet up turned disastrous when a driver lost control of her car when reversing into a parking lot about two metres away and rammed into them. The impact was so great that part of metal bench was uprooted with Mr Mohammad Anis, 26, sitting on it. It was dragged away by the dark blue Toyota Corola before coming to a stop about 10 metres away. Miss Nurliah, 23, was flung to the side of the basketball court where the bench was located. Police received a call about the accident which happened at Block 221 Yishun Street 21 at about 11.30pm on Saturday. Mr Mohammad Anis was pronounced dead by paramedics after sustaining severe injuries at 11.50pm by paramedics. Miss Nurliah survived and was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where she was treated for injuries to her face and leg. She was discharged on Sunday morning. - Straits Times Sad. Wonder what really happened. Maybe female driver panicked, hit accelerator even more when she wanted to brake. If this was what happened, then it's tragically quite commonplace in SG. Sigh.
  17. I was told we go to IDAC and report our case. My friend got into accident with no injury, then go to IDAC and report. The person took down the 'statement' but they feel the way he write it, sounds a bit inaccurate of the actual situation. But the IDAC person keep saying never mind one, this one not final. in the end, insurance company say he is at fault. What is the way to re-address this ? thanks

  19. However, the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) said that making customers sign an indemnity form does not absolve the shop from responsibility. Above was extracted from the Newpaper that 2 sisters when to those "fish spa" and their legs got bitten..red & ugly.If this is the case, what about those laser eye surgery, operation in the hospital and also those private car parks that said "the management shall not hold any responsibility for..bla..blah...you are parking at your own RISK" So are we to say if anything did happen in such cases....then can we sue?
  20. came across this news...and i remembered reading abt it on the papers.. was there a follow-up/explanation on this case by the hospital staff? **edited for hyperlink**
  21. Man sues car dealer over sale of year-old vehicle Christopher Tan Fri, Aug 17, 2007 The Straits Times THE buyer of a Volkswagen Beetle is suing the sellers for selling him a car that was over a year old even before it was put on the road here. Late last December, Muhamed Ali Abdul Rashid, 36, bought the $72,000 car from Car & Cars, then the dealer for VW. When the car was ready for delivery on Feb 15 this year, he realised from the registration card that the vehicle was made in 2005. He refused the car, which has since been with Volkswagen Group Singapore (VGS), a regional unit of the carmaker that took over the import and sales of VW here from Car & Cars earlier this year. In what lawyers say is the first case of its kind, Mr Muhamed Ali, the regional manager of a manufacturing company, is claiming, among other things, a refund and financing charges he has incurred on his car loan so far. He told The Straits Times: "They did offer me a few thousand dollars as compensation, but it's not about the money. I asked for a new car and I expect a new car." In the case, slated for hearing on Sept 4, he will be represented by A. Mohamed Hashim, and Car & Cars by Chong, Chia & Lim. VGS, to be represented by KhattarWong, has been named as a third party. The Straits Times understands that if the court rules in Mr Muhamed Ali's favour, Car & Cars will seek recourse and claim whatever it has to pay its former customer from VGS. When contacted, VGS managing director Olaf Duebel said the case was "something between the customer and Car & Cars". He said the car was manufactured in Mexico in late 2005, and would have taken three or four months to arrive here by ship. Mr Duebel said: "It was scheduled to be delivered in mid-2006. You'll have to ask Car & Cars why it took so long to deliver it, and why it asked specifically for this car." Mr Peter Kwee, the owner of Car & Cars, said the black Beetle was among a batch of cars ordered in April last year. By July, the car had arrived, and could have been sold if there was a buyer. But it was not sold until December: Mr Muhamed Ali signed the sales agreement on Dec 29. As to why Car & Cars picked this car from its stock, Mr Kwee said it was drawn from what Car & Cars had in hand, and that the dealer did not know at the time that it was a 2005 car. He added that if Car & Cars had known, the customer would have been told - especially since the car was to be delivered only this year. Industry players say that discounts of $1,000 or more are usually offered for older cars. But what is "older"? Motor Traders Association president Michael Wong said there is no standard definition, but generally, companies would offer a discount if the car arrived here more than seven to eight months before. "It is better to be upfront with customers, because they will find out eventually," he said. Mr Marc Singleton, chief operating officer of Audi agent Premium Automobiles, said: "You'd be in trouble if you tried to hide it." BMW agent Performance Motors' spokesman Belinda Bay said it was company policy to declare the year of manufacture, and that its sales agreement has a field that states this in black and white. At Honda agent Kah Motor, product manager Vincent Ng said: "We have to make the year of manufacture clear to customers. As a rule, we offer a discount if the car was made more than a year ago." But one dealer for a continental brand who did not wish to be named admitted that customers are told of the manufacture date "only if they ask". "But even if we do not tell, we will sell the older cars at a more attractive price," he said. Cars take about three weeks to be shipped here from Japan, four weeks from Europe and eight to 10 weeks from the United States

  24. June 26, 2008 Finance officer jailed for 'defacing' maid with marker pens By Khushwant Singh, Court Reporter TO teach her maid a lesson, finance officer Sally Ang Poh Choo used marker pens to draw lines on the Indonesian maid's face. It was Ang's way of punishing Miss Sri Hartuti Rokiman for not closing the front door properly while she was washing the family's car parked in the front porch of the house in Eastwood Place off Bedok Road. Miss Sri Hartuti, 26, ran away from her employers the next day and reported the matter to the police. A doctor found scratches and slight bleeding on her face. The maid had also asked a neighbour and her maid to take photographs of her scratches and bruises. Ang, 44, a mother of two teenagers, 14 and 16, was jailed three weeks and fined $1,500 on Thursday for hurting her maid on five occasions over a two-month period. Last month, she pleaded guilty to the charges which included pinching Miss Sri Hartuti and poking her head with a finger on two separate incidents in 2005. Ang abused her maid for her sloppy work, such as not cleaning the kitchen to her satisfaction and not unfolding a bed cover. She will start serving her jail term on July 3 as her lawyer Ramesh Chandra told the court she needed a week to settle the payroll payment of her 60 fellow employees. The company she works for had been unable to find a replacement for her, he said. Mr Ramesh said the offences had occurred a long time ago and Ang regretted her actions and had compensated Miss Sri Hartuti $4,000. When probed by District Judge Wong Choon Ning why there was a delay in prosecuting Ang, Assistant Public Prosecutor Olivine Lin said the police had 'sat on the case'. The Attorney-General's Chambers had to ask the police to expedite the matter, she added. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_251917.html this woman jialat... polis also sibei jialat...
