The affected schools range from pre-schools to primary and secondary schools, a madrasah, junior college and several institutes of higher learning.

  6. http://eatbook.sg/pasir-ris-central-hawker/ Things to eat at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre New food place to explore. It is advertised as an instagram worthy hawker center served by young entrepreneurs. I would very much prefer simple hawker fares at less exorbitant prices compared to 'hipster' food but if the food is good, it's still worth a try. Anyone been here?

  9. Yale law professor and author Amy Chua, better known as the iron-fisted Asian-American Tiger Mom, is exporting her parenting style to Singapore, with the launch of an after-school enrichment center in the tuition-crazy city-state. The Keys Academy, which focuses both academics as well as soft skills such as creativity and leadership, aims to groom secondary-school students for university and "jobs of the future," with classes in robot-building and computer-coding as well as externships with global corporations and college admissions programs. "It's the best of both worlds," 52-year old Chua, who is one of four advisers to the center, told CNBC on Thursday. "I like that Keys Academy preserves the hard core 'you need to know the basics, and there's no way around that hard work.' But, [it equally focuses on] personal communication skills, how can you be interesting and dynamic, because that's really what it takes now." 10. Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC has sold its entire stake in the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Financial Centre in London for £582.5 million (S$1.2 billion). Norges Bank Investment Management, Norway's sovereign wealth fund, is the buyer of the prime freehold property in London's financial district, said GIC in a statement yesterday. The move follows GIC's full acquisition of the RomaEst Shopping Centre - in which it already had a 50 per cent interest - in Italy on Monday. GIC bought the 585,000 sq ft London office property from Merrill Lynch in 2007 for £480 million, beating investors such as Syrian-born tycoon Simon Halabi and Irish investor Derek Quinlan. Norges Bank said in a statement that the acquisition was not financed by debt. Bank of America Merrill Lynch will continue to manage the property, under the lease agreement. The financial centre has a net lettable area of about 550,000 sq ft. It comprises four buildings on a 1.3ha site, and was first purpose-built by the American bank as its flagship headquarters in London. The complex is also near the historic St Paul's Cathedral. GIC has been on a shopping spree in Europe of late. It bought a stake in RAC, Britain's second-largest roadside assistance firm, from Washington-based private equity firm Carlyle Group two weeks ago. GIC also agreed to buy 30 per cent of Spanish real estate firm Gmp for more than €200 million (S$323 million) last week. Earlier reports had noted that GIC may be part of a group of investors in talks to buy airports in Aberdeen and Glasgow in Scotland as well as in Southampton in southern England for £1 billion. Quick calculation on the returns from purchasing Bank of America Financial Centre: Purchase $480 million (sterlings) in 2007 = SGD $1,440 million (07 sterling to SGD is 3 ish to 1 give and take lah) Sold $582.5million (sterlings) in 2014 = SGD $1,194 million (current rate is 2.05 ish give and that lah) Lost = SGD$246 million just in foreign exchange fluctuation Assumption: No debt financing, related fees not taken into account, rental not taken into account Somebody please tell me I'm wrong but the numbers are what it is right?

Passengers at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore have complained about long waits at the immigration checkpoints, and for taxis. -- ST PHOTO: KEVIN LIM By Melissa Lin Traffic on the roads around the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) came to a standstill last Thursday when two large cruise ships docked at the passenger seaport on the same morning. Between them, the luxury liner Queen Mary II of the Cunard Cruise Line and Voyager of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean International, can take more than 5,000 passengers. It created a bottleneck of vehicles arriving and going. Though Thursday's incident was especially protracted, traffic congestion is one of a string of problems to plague MBCCS since it began operations in May 2012. Passengers have complained about long waits at the immigration checkpoints, and for taxis. - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/transport/story/marina-bay-cruise-centre-plagued-gridlock-due-swell-passengers-when-s#sthash.InNtQPKs.dpuf -Source: Straits Times. 16. From Yahoo news: MSF, police investigate baby scalding incident at PAP childcare centre The Ministry of Social and Family development (MSF) and the police are investigating reports that a six-month-old baby suffered second-degree burns at the hands of a caregiver at a PAP Community Foundation (PCF) infant care centre. According to a Facebook user named Wendy Foo, the unnamed infant, a child of a friend of hers, was being looked after at the government-run Little Wings childcare centre in Boon Lay on Wednesday when his hands were scalded. Foo's account of the incident, in a post on her Facebook page, revealed that her friend was initially told by a caretaker at the centre over the phone that someone had spilled coffee onto his wrist by accident. It was accompanied by three pictures she posted of the baby's left wrist, perforated with bubbles, sagging skin and an angry red burn mark on the top side. "But my friend (said there) wasn't any coffee stain at all," Foo wrote. "So my friend insisted (to be given access to watch) their CCTV (footage), and the video show(ed) differently," she added, without elaborating on what her friend saw instead. In subsequent comments, she noted that the CCTV camera had only captured "half" of the area of the childcare centre, adding that her friend has withdrawn her baby from the programme. Foo also said her friend was told by a teacher at the centre that the person in charge was unable to travel there to speak to her because she stays "very far" away, adding that a complaint was lodged with the MSF. When contacted, a spokesperson for the Early Childhood Development Agency, a subsidiary of the MSF, confirmed it had been informed of the incident and is investigating. "The safety of our children is of utmost importance," the spokesperson told Yahoo Singapore on Thursday. "ECDA is investigating, and working closely with the centre to ensure that safety guidelines are adhered to." Local media reported also that the police have also been alerted to the incident and are investigating. Yahoo Singapore has also contacted the PCF for a statement. link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/msf--police-investigate-baby-scalding-incident-at-pap-childcare-centre-035259766.html Look at the baby arm, sooooooooooooooo sad ...
  17. Dont know whether it should be at complaints or maken corner but anyway, Geylang Lor 20 Banana Fritters, you had disgusted me. When someone requested a namecard from your stall means that he/she will definitely buy again/recommend friends. But your actions (cook/boss or whosoever that fries the stuffs) disgusted me so much that I would like to let the potential customers to your stall did to an old auntie. The event (22nd Sept, Sunday around 12noon):- Auntie had ordered some pieces of stuffs from the stall requesting in a very nice tone "can you pick some nice ones for me (even all pieces look the same to anyone else)"? Helper gave her a smile and just picked randomly and packed it individually. Then auntie was chatting with helper about she couldnt find this stall at first and had bought from the wrong stall (few units from yours) couple of times. Then she had requested a namecard from the helper and the helper replied nicely "sorry we don't have namecards here". Auntie being old repeated that she always cant find this place and was about to leave. Cook turned around asked auntie "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!". Auntie replied "do you have namecard"? Cook "NO!" Auntie (about to leave).... Cook "Auntie, you had already picked your stuffs, so buy already and go.... Don't LoLoSoSo here!" Cook turned to helper "if that she buy 2000 pieces, I will surely entertain her. Buy 1-2 pieces talk so much". And the bananas you fried, 2.5/5. The better stall will be the one at longhouse at Sin Ming area which I will give it a 4.5/5. Msg to the cook, 2000 pieces, I will lick your boots, old & winkled, I dont care!
