  1. According to this POST, someone got charged for changing his shirt in the carpark after RT. I suppose if we go strictly by law, the MAJ is right. Having said that, petty people abuse petty powers. Comments / opinions?
  2. I purchased a black colour sport rim from LS tyre shop in payaubi. Initially they used the chrome colour metal nut to secured the rims. I don't really like the metal nuts as it look a but odd and don't blend with the black rim. When I asked if can change to black colour, they claim there a charge of $50 (total 20 nos) as the black colour is made of better quality and would rust whereas the chrome metal colour one would rust. Anyway tried to bargain for better price but not successful and purchased from them.It is reasonable for them to claim so and charged that amount for black colour nuts?

  4. http://www.digitalone.com.sg/news/article/19538 Scam at Sim Lim Square: Woman charged $1,230 for iPhone 4 The salesperson made her signed a letter of agreement that she didn't understand. DigitalOne | 22-06-12 18 comments A customer has come forward with complaints that they were overcharged for an iPhone 4. According to a report in Stomp, a salesperson at one store refused to hand over a newly purchased iPhone 4 unless $610 more was paid, on top of the agreed price of $620 for the phone. The amount, according to the Stomp contributor who wrote it, was for the warranty, activation service, an iPhone case and a screen protector. Apple Inc sells the unlocked iPhone 4 on its website for $788. According to the contributor who called himself Robin, the shop in question is Cyber Maestro at #02-77. A photo of the offending shop was also submitted to Stomp. Robin told Stomp that a friend from China went to the shop to buy an iPhone. But a salesperson recommended her to get a Sony Ericsson phone at about $600, which he felt was overpriced. Still, the friend took up the offer. On June 19, the friend brought another friend to the same shop during the late afternoon, ostensibly to buy an iPhone as well. Robin wrote: "They were then served by another salesperson and managed to come to an agreed price of $620 for an iPhone 4. "It wasn't not even an iPhone 4s. "After making payment for the phone itself, they agreed to allow the salesperson to activate the iPhone for them and to change it to a global warranty. "They then had to sign a Letter of Agreement (LOA) in English which they do not understand, the salesperson clarified that it was for the warranty and requested them to be back half an hour later. "When they returned, they were told to pay another $610 for the activation service that was not mentioned to them beforehand and they thought that it was supposed to be free of charge. "I arrived at the shop to question the salesperson. He then showed me the LOA which my friends had indeed signed earlier. "They refused to hand the iPhone over to my friend unless she paid the extra $610. "We refused and thus called the police, they could only do some recording and then refer it to Case. "The police officer did mentioned to me that this shop is quite infamous and this signing of the LOA is a new trick. "We did not manage to get the iPhone. "I would like to warn everyone about this shop and we should all avoid going there. Complaint kiosk from July 1 Still, the management of Sim Lim Square is trying to clean up its image. The mall will set up a complaint kiosk at the mall's information counter on the first floor. From July 1, people can use the computers at the counter and make a complaint directly to Case and they will take action within three days. The complaint kiosk, according to a Straits Times report, is a collaboration between Case and Sim Lim Square management. The kiosk is the first of its kind that will be reviewed after three months to judge its success, said the report. If successful, similar kiosks will pop up across the island. Case will encourage malls to install the kiosks and will help train staff to use the system.

  11. My guess is the fellow has been charged wrongly & paid someone's bill instead. Must make a point to note the pump number you pump your petrol from & confirm this before making payment at the counter. The most unlikely cause would be his fuel tank has a leak... In any case let's see what the dealer & petrol company response will be respectively. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...es_of_fuel.html Petrol kiosk bills driver for two extra litres of fuel STOMPer Don felt he was overcharged by a petrol kiosk in Bedok on Monday (Mar 12). According to the STOMPer, his car can only take in 45 litres of fuel but he was billed for over 47 litres of fuel. The STOMPer wrote: "I went to pump petrol into my Volkswagen polo 1.2 TSI and got a rude shock when the bill came up to $110! "Never have I had such an expensive petrol bill before. "As the receipt shows, 47.62 litres was pumped into my car, which only has a 45-litre tank. "Furthermore, my digital fuel meter gauge still showed about a quarter tank left when I was at the petrol station. "I am definitely bringing this up with ESSO and Volkswagen."

  22. Would you pay $130 for a plate of crab bee hoon? http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...-100015055.html The chef of a popular seafood restaurant at Geylang has defended charging his customers high prices, including $130 for a plate of crab bee hoon. The restaurant in question, Sin Huat Seafood Restaurant, is under the spotlight after a Yahoo! reader said she was charged $421 for a dinner for four adults and two children when she visited the eatery for dinner earlier this month. Dinner at Sin Huat Seafood Restaurant came up to $421 for Gelene Ong and her family. Salesperson Gelene Ong, who went there with her family of six, received a rude shock when she saw the final bill. Her dinner consisted of crab bee hoon ($130), scallops ($50), conch or gong gong ($50), prawns ($77), frog legs ($78) and vegetables ($12). Other items on the bill were peanuts and drinks ($20.40) and wet towels ($3.60). However, chef Danny Lee said in response, "It's all a one-man show. Every dish we have, I make sure I take the orders and cook it myself. I also make sure that my ingredients are clean and fresh." When Yahoo! Singapore visited his restaurant this week, he also explained the steps he takes to ensure that his dishes are fresh. "For my gong gong (conch), I always tell people 'if you don't take my gong gong here, try not to take it elsewhere. I keep my gong gong in the tanks for a week for it to clear out the mud and dirt." He also voiced his doubts that other seafood restaurants actually serve live seafood. "They are serving such a big crowd everyday and they always only have a few fishes in the tanks. At the end of the day, you still see the fish swimming in the tank," said the chef. At the time, customer Ong said she had visited the restaurant because the place was recommended by her friend who said she should try the crab bee hoon. But she said she "didn't expect it to be so expensive" and was also put off by the lack of communication between her and the restaurant. She was not informed of the prices when her orders were taken. "The restaurant had no menu. The service crew was also pushy about getting us to order an extra fish when we already had so much food," Ong added. The extra fish she was asked to order was Cheng yu, otherwise known as Parrot Fish, and it comes at $120 per kilogram. Chef Danny Lee defends his restaurant's pricing. (Yahoo! Photo/Fann Sim) Chef Danny Lee defends his restaurant's pricing. Chef Lee clarified that his restaurant does not provide menus. "We don't have a menu. People who come here know me and, most of the time, they will ask me how much the dishes are. It just happened that on the day she visited the restaurant, she did not ask for the prices. Even if she asked, I would not have charged her differently," Lee said. Chef Lee took out a stack of receipts to show the amount paid by other customers. It was exactly as he said: the prices were standardised. Chef Danny Lee took out a stack of receipts to show us that he does not give special prices. It's not the first time the seafood restaurant has hit the headlines. Chef Lee, who is known to be the "food nazi of Geylang", can be quite obnoxious, according to reviews posted on popular food site HungryGoWhere. Potential customers visiting Sin Huat are also warned to be prepared for long waits and should avoid ordering from food stalls beside the restaurant. "Sometimes people complain I serve too slow. I only have two hands and I'm the only cook. People may see me looking like I'm angry or impatient because I have no time to entertain them," Chef Lee explained. His favourite customers are those who know how to appreciate good food. "No point buying cheap food and it doesn't taste good. There's nothing special about that," said the owner of the restaurant who's hosted the likes of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. Expensive meals have been in the limelight recently. Last month, Yahoo! Singapore ran a story about nasi lemak going for $8.30 along Upper Serangoon Road. An expatriate diner was also charged $1,107.32 for a seafood lunch for two at Boat Quay's Forum Seafood Village Restaurant earlier this week, reported Today newspaper. CASE has received 12 complaints for alleged overcharging by food and beverage outlets from January to May this year. Crab again!!! This time Crab Bee Hoon.

But what impressed me was that the NYPD boarded his flight as he was about to flee the country, and hauled him off to be arrested, disregarding his status. And mind you, the complainant was only a hotel maid - yet their police acted swiftly without hesitation.
