  1. Need advice from the gurus. My car COE expires in 2025. I'm looking for the most cost effective route to owning a car. Some options: 1) Renew COE for another 5yrs 2) Buy a 2nd hand car Which of the 2 options is cheaper in the long run? If option 2, when should i be buying the 2nd hand car? I just want the cheapest option. Or is there another cheaper option that i'm not aware of? Tks!
  2. TL;DR - Yet another SG-registered Mercedes GLA180 driver enjoying the cheap RON95 from Malaysia. Despite several signs put up around the petrol kiosks, people just seem to intentionally be oblivious to those posters. Here's what I mean: What happened? Many Singaporeans head into Johor Bahru for the cheap food, cheap massage and most importantly, cheap petrol. This man is no exception. The Mercedes driver was caught filling his car with RON95, the forbidden petrol that is exclusive to MY-registered vehicles only. In case you didn't know, a litre of RON95 costs ~SGD0.60 and a litre of RON97 costs ~SGD1. The difference in price is not worth the public shame lah… And the fact he drives a Mercs makes it worse. Online Chatter When you put cheapskate and Mercedes in a sentence, you get this 'xia-suey' driver. Tsk… throw Singaporeans’ face sia. Cautionary Reminder Under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, individuals can be fined up to RM1 million (S$321,000), or jailed three years or both if found guilty while entities and companies can be fined a maximum of RM2 million. 3. TL;DR - The Mercedes driver was caught dabao-ing several (plastic) containers of Malaysia’s RON97 and smuggling them deep into his car boot. Inflation is real. Watch this 67-second clip of this driver who has no peripheral awareness, sneaking RON97 into his car. What happened? This SG-registered Mercedes driver was seen refilling RON97 into his plasticwares and tying them up in red plastic bags, slotting them right deep into his car boot. In case you didn’t know, one can only bring a controlled amount of petrol from Malaysia back to Singapore. And it has to be declared at the ICA. Failure to do so will result in a hefty sum, that is definitely not worth the risk. And the shame. Online Comments Desperate times call for desperate measures. Refill first, think later! Netizens were also speculating that his car is not even 3/4 filled in the first place. Which is also another crime in itself. Moral of the Story Don’t be a cheapskate lah… especially if you’re driving a luxury car. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 5. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwinism Darwinism is a theory of biological evolution developed by the English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882) and others, stating that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual's ability to compete, survive, and reproduce. https://www.straitstimes.com/business/companies-markets/ministry-of-food-winding-up-fails-to-pay-debt-of-200000 Ministry of Food winding up, fails to pay debt of $200,000 SINGAPORE - Home-grown restaurant chain Ministry of Food is winding up after failing to pay a debt of $200,000. We all know Charles Darwin so I'm not going to explain his theory of natural selection. Nevertheless, I created this thread because it's pretty amazing we're 1 year plus into the pandemic and there are businesses/individuals that still refuses to evolve. They continue to think the world will return to normal and rely on government aid (tax payers money) or cheap labor (maximize margin) to drive their organizations (plus complain a lot). Do you think they are worth saving?

  11. Just purchased a box of walkie talkies ( 4 in a box ) for $50+ and I did a little short range test just to find out the sound quality and having a little fun. Great to have on a convoy trip with your friends , or when visiting theme parks or zoo etc.. where everyone can roam around freely and then call each other for a meal or drink together. Well, at least without incurring overseas charges. For about $12 to $13 per piece.. the price is unbeatable. Not selling nor am I a vendor. So please do not PM or ask me where to buy. Online do your homework. https://youtu.be/UaJwRp-45P4
  12. Singapore is fast becoming more and more expensive to live in, and it's not so easy to get a decent meal for <$5. So let's help one another find good meal for less. It should be tasty most importantly, filling and hopefully include a drink.. I just had lunch with a bro, and we can get the ball rolling: At Lengkok Bahru, there is a coffee shop with a quaint ambience, and there under a big tree, you can find a place to eat that fulfils all three. Plus it's near to the service centres at Leng Kee: https://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/food/wholesome-comforting-fishball-noodles https://ordinarypatrons.com/2017/11/09/lengkok-bahru-fishball-noodles/ BLOCK 58 LENGKOK BAHRU MINCED MEAT NOODLE Block 58 Lengkok Bahru, open: 7am to about 2.30pm, closed on some Sundays. http://ieatishootipost.sg/seng-hong-coffeeshop-a-blast-from-the-past/ And the coffee is good too..

  17. Judging from the numerous threads of durian threads, I can see that most people like MSW. However, I do not prefer MSW as I think normal durians are enough for me. The main aim of the post is to see if anybody is like me(ie. likes to find budget durians) and if my statement of most people like MSW . PS.T his is not a thread for academic purposes. For general discussion only. Thanks with regards, Brass. There is apparently no poll on this kind of question, so I created this thread. If moderators feel that this thread is similar to other threads, please merge them to other durian related threads. Thanks
  18. Please share any beer sales and/or promotions! $2 Budweiser can 355ml at Giant Supermarket. Promo ends on 2nd Nov.
  19. For those who are waiting at the sidelines for COE prices to drop further, console yourselves that car prices are cheaper now than before. Back in 1997, the G8 Toyota Corolla cost $125K. The G9 Corolla dropped to $100K in 2000. Today, the Corolla Altis costs $100K with 5 years warranty and servicing thrown in. If you take inflation into consideration, the brand new Corolla today is CHEAPER than 20 years ago. With Uber and Grab in the picture fighting for a piece of the small Cat A pie, COE prices are unlikely to drop to $40K levels. If you really need a car, just go for it now, before more Car Llite policies come into place and COE quote gets cut, then we will be back to $80+K COE seen just very recently 2 years ago.

  24. I think our politician here would not have considered such a cheap car (it is cheaper than a cat D COE!) for even for their servant... Even if that happen, the dealer might be praying hard that the buyer would not come back to sue him under lemon law... David Cameron buys used Nissan Micra for wife Samantha – in blue Car dealer Iain Harris says he thought ‘I’ve just sold a car to the prime minister’ after he bought secondhand car for £1,495. When car dealership boss Iain Harris got the call from David Cameron’s security team that the prime minister was about to call in to buy a used blue Nissan Micra, he thought it was his mates winding him up. Harris, owner of Witney Used Car Centre, said he was asked if he would mind staying open for an extra half an hour on Friday night so the prime minister could look over the secondhand car, which cost £1,495. He was in two minds, he told the Guardian, in case his friends turned up instead and thought he was gullible. “I thought, well I’ll stay here just in case, because the security guard said they’d arrive at 17.32 and I thought, well, that’s a bit precise,” he said. “Next thing I know, Mr Cameron and his security guards turned up, and I thought, this is actually happening.” The car dealership, based in Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire, specialises in “quality pre-owned cars at affordable prices”. Harris said he believed Cameron was buying the blue Nissan Micra, which had 92,000 on the clock, for his wife Samantha. “He looked it over just like any bloke off the street, but not someone with mechanical knowledge,” he said. “I think he must have seen it on the internet, a British-made car, five-door hatchback, not too expensive, within 10 miles of his constituency. And he found this one.” Harris said he had even joked that the colour of the car was right for Cameron and said he was lucky it was not red, but that was as political as the conversation went. “I wouldn’t have asked him about politics,” he said. “You wouldn’t want to start a political argument with a customer asking them about their political beliefs and they say: ‘Hold on, I’d rather not buy the car from you’.” Cameron told Harris he would return the next morning to buy the car, and returned to pay just after 10am. “I didn’t give him a discount, he paid the screen price, got the log book, went to the post office to pay the tax and off he went,” he said. “And then I thought, I’ve just sold a car to the prime minister.” Harris said he did not give Cameron any special treatment. “I think his security team thought it was odd I was just treating him like a normal customer,” he said. “But it’s not like he was buying a £20,000 car, then it might have been different.”
