  1. My car is a honda Fit, left 2 years 3 months. Topped up petrol at Esso, Esso 95. Upon leaving the station, noticed engine check light on, but not flashin Drove for 20 mins to eat, turned off and Start again light still on This morning the engine check light disappeared Should I bring to workshop and check or since it went away should be okie? Since no engine light on,means the diagnostic tool willl not pick up anything wrong with the car? First time car owner here with mcf sticker 🥶
  2. Oh no, this white Porsche Macan is going to get flamed online by neitzens everywhere with his/her brake-checking skills. Spotted on SG Road Vigilante's page is this video of a Porsche SUV that is pissed with the camera car not giving way on 30th of Nov 2020. Everything started from the junction of Upper Thompson and Braddell Road with the Porsche slowly catching up to the camera car which was going a decent speed. The Porsche then wanted to overtake on Braddell road for a few times but somehow luck was not in his way and the camera car seemed like it was blocking the SUV. With ego getting the best of the SUV driver, the Macan then a bad judgement call at Braddell Underpass, trying to cut into the camera car's lane without signal. Funny thing is throughtout the other parts of the video, the Macan did signal his intentions mostly... From then on, it then seemed like the Macan wanted to give the camera a piece of his mind and brake-checked the camera car after finally overtaking it. Was it solely the fault of the Porsche? Or was the camera car in the wrong for not giving way despite knowing the Porsche had intentions to overtake? It does take two hands to clap afterall...
  3. Videos of traffic police checking child passengers’ heights stir road rules debate GVGT It’s normal to see police officers scanning Singapore’s roads at night for speeding motorists or drunk drivers. But to halt vehicles for checks on child passengers’ heights? Not so much. Videos showing traffic police officers stopping drivers in broad daylight to measure the heights of child passengers in their cars surfaced on Facebook yesterday. The unusual sight of officers holding measuring tapes against kids who appeared to be around six years old as the adults looked on had piqued the curiosity of many, with all three clips that were posted racking up over 200,000 views accumulatively. It’s unclear where the checks were taking place. Viewers who commented on the post, shared by Facebook user Huang Jiaxing, pointed out that the officers’ actions seemed to be connected to child safety rules on the road. Those below the height of 1.35m are required in Singapore to use the child seat or approved adjustable seat belts to lower the risk of accidental injury. Taxis, however, are exempted from this requirement as it is considered not “reasonable or practical” for parents to carry child seats wherever they go. But a taxi driver could be fined S$120 and given three demerit points if he or she fails to ensure that the children are in the rear seat. If convicted in court, taxi drivers could be fined up to S$1,000 or jailed for up to three months. These rules have been around at least since 2011 but are rarely seen being enforced by the traffic police. Coconuts Singapore has reached out to the police for more details on why the checks on child passengers are taking place only now. Meanwhile, netizens praised authorities for their “good move” on the apparent efforts to ensure child safety on the roads.

  6. Since young till now, my earliest memory had always been somewhere when I was 3 to 4 years old. My family used to live in a kampong when I was very young, rearing chicken, ducks, and pigs, and we lived in a wooden house with zinc roof. Back then, the worse thing I could remember was pythons that could swallow livestocks and bigger animals, and I still remember hearing commotion in the middle of the nights when pythons were spotted in the coops feasting on our livelihood, and fearing when would be my turn. I remembered one afternoon when I woke up from napping to finding nobody in the house, when normally my mum would be. It was hysterical moments as I cried and cried fearing the worst, even when my mum showed up moments later as she was tending to something in neighbour's house nearby. The memory and fear was so vivid that I could remember till this day, and I was around 3 to 4 years old then. But all along since young I have been having a weird and unique recollection of certain event. The setting was again in some sort of kampong village. And I remember myself naked, and minding my business, not sure what it was though. All around me, the people were reacting normally, not taken aback by my condition. But I would feel so shameful that I would cringe at the thought. I do not know why, but this memory would keep flashing in the dreams and some idle thoughts, not knowing why it happened that I would be naked and nobody reacting to it. I had even saw an online article recently about an old man who like to roam his kampong naked on a bicycle, and keep thinking am I that kuku bird haha. Then only recently it occurred to me that it must be my brain trying to remember some distant memory when I was very young and trying to make sense of them. Well that naked person is real, and me when I was really young I believe. No wonder nobody gave a hoot because it is normal for a baby to be naked those days. And I was really glad that this mystery had finally been solved. Really happy to be frank, as it sort of proves my sanity haha. Ok I hope I had not bored anyone with this little sharing about myself (Not young anymore, by the way). Do feel free to share what you remember as the earliest event you could still remember. If you have nothing to contribute but just had a laugh reading it, I am also happy with it, as this is really a weird topic to start with. My apologies also if you think you have wasted few minutes of your time reading through the words. Cheers.

  13. I thought it would be good to compile a list of to do before purchase Sort of a sharing and paying back to the forum Those that have additional infor, feel free to add 1. Check out how much you can loan. Yes, there are times when you "feel" you can meet the monthly payment, but then , the bank thinks otherwise. Lets not debate in dubious ways like overstating sales agreement and "football" payment. Yu may also want to check out the citiloan assist and there are good rates to be gotten for new cars. just be aware there will be some work on your part to be done so a good sales person is required. You are ideally cutting out the sales person comm of 800 to 1000 dollars on average. If like most, you have a condo loan or a condo is on the horizon, BUY condo FIRST as that will also hit your loan for the Condo. 2. check out which credit card is having a promotion for that month. a 10000 to 20000 down payment by card can gain you a lot of rebate / cashback. 3. Forecasting COE is as good as buying 2 coconut to point to the sky to contact your MP for tips on COE increase or not. Be aware that the 6 bids and top up only helps to lock you in on the down payment . Your choice of cars that you could have gotten IF it rise can be quite disappointing. imagine you book a 1.5L car and because of the top up, you would have being buying a 1.6L car as compare to the car at that point in time where you put ink to paper. 4. New car launches as they say early bird gets the worm. Can be as good at 6 K off. Cars that are in stock in that configuration would get you better discount. BUT note that lime green and orange coulors will be sticking with you way long after many CNY is over. So have to take the color that you like. But that's me. 5. Event cars maybe cheap, but its also DUMB specs. The savings may negate the fact that when selling, you are also getting lower resale. WHY ? 2nd hand car dealers has a list of specs that they note down. so things like a normal car sold with all the bells and whistle vs a dump down version will very quickly be identified by the second hand car dealers. Bi xenon head lights and LED are one example and IF its a second owner car, its even worst. So be careful not to be happy to have a 4K discount and getting short change in the end. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details. 6. Getting a pre own may not be so bad. Do note that the 6 - 9 months old car is normally 30 - 45 K different . You not buying a car from NTUC. So bargain away. Do check the TnC. 7. Check out the various insurance as that is also a big unknown. It varies and if you can ask on your own, the savings are as large as 300 to 400. Do note that the Sales will not be happy, so you have to check with the sales on what is the final price without loan and insurance. As the loan interest rate can varies do not be mistaken that its 1% different only. Car loan interest is very different from how other loans are calculated. ITS a lot of MONEY. Those that think otherwise can try out the apps on the SGCARMART to have a taste of the delta of 1% for 50K loan for 5 years. If its easy peasy lemon queezy, then good for you. 8. Do check when the YOM is. we are in 2015. If you still getting 2014 or earlier, there are insurance implication when it comes to fair market value. Do also check when you will be registering the car. If you register in dec 31 vs 2 Jan, your resale value can be as different as 4k to 6 K when its time to sell. ************ This is not exhaustive and as money is involved, those that buy do note of the risk that you take base on my insights
  14. http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/man-110-boxes-arrested-not-stopping-tuas-checkpoint Despite being directed to another area for further checks, he continued driving his luxury car past Tuas Checkpoint, sparking a manhunt by the police. They found the man and his 7-series BMW sedan almost two hours later at Pioneer North Road and arrested him.The police officers found more 100 boxes and plastic bags packed in the boot and on the passenger seats. But instead of contraband such as cigarettes or drugs, they contained foodstuff like curry puff and kueh (local pastries). An Immigration & Checkpoints Authority spokesman said yesterday that a 47-year-old Singaporean had arrived at the Tuas Checkpoint from Malaysia at 12.15pm on Tuesday. "The driver was accorded immigration clearance and proceeded to Customs Red Channel to declare the food products he had brought in from Malaysia. Checks were conducted on his vehicle and there were some discrepancies in the quantities declared," the spokesman added. "He was directed to a designated inspection bay for further checks. However, the driver drove off instead." Under the law, those who wish to bring in processed food such as traditional kueh from Malaysia need to apply for a permit with the Agri-food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore. The New Paper understands that the suspect had produced a valid import permit, but the quantity of food found in his car did not tally with that stated in the permit. He is suspected to have driven off because he misunderstood the instructions for further checks, TNP has learnt. It is believed he was directed to another area for the checks because the inspection bay was full, but he apparently misread the signal and drove off. Not long after the police tracked down the BMW to Pioneer Road North just after 2pm, a 28-year-old man saw the car surrounded by three police vehicles near Nanyang Technological University. He told Chinese evening daily Shin Min Daily News that the officers were seen carrying boxes of food from the car. A police dog was seen sniffing at about 110 boxes of various shapes and sizes and about 20 bags containing food stacked by the side of the road. Curry puff, packets of nasi lemak and kueh lapis were seen among the stash of food. It was only until three hours later that the boxes of food were loaded back into the car, Shin Min reported. Investigations are ongoing. Kueh distributors here told TNP that it is common to bring in the food items from Malaysia to sell because of the price difference. "In Singapore, most places sell 50 pieces of kueh for $20. In Malaysia, they may sell the same quantity for RM15 (S$5.30) to RM18," said a local distributor who declined to be named. He was surprised that a BMW was used to transport the food items as he had never heard of people using saloon cars for this purpose. "Usually, people use vans because cars are too small to contain all the goods," he said.
  15. where to go for transmission auto check? When I try to accelerate (Almost flooring) from a filter lane to an expressway, it seems to be lagging, like it would rev high then after a second or so get what I want it to do and then start to accelerate. Is this called gear slip? I do not remember my previous auto being like that it at least not so obvious. Could it be that I am used to the response time of a manual or is the cars transmission giving way?

  18. hi guys, is this the website to check for fines online? Don't seem to work. Or did i get it wrong? https://www.psi.gov.sg/NASApp/tmf/TMFServlet?app=SPF-PTD-EDDIES-II&Reload=true
  19. Hello everyone, For people with full size spare tires, please check your spare tire's pressure periodically, say every six months. I checked mine earlier this week, the pressure has dropped to an unusable 150 kPa (1.5 bar or 21.8 psi); I only pumped it to 250 kPa about a year ago. Further, mine was already more than five years old; while it has never been mounted on the car before, I decided to change it this morning, as it would have suffered from rubber deterioration. Unless one has X-rays' eyes like Superman to inspect the tire's internal structure, one would not know if the steel radial cords and the rubber have lost their bonding and the tire's structural integrity is compromised and therefore unusable. A five year old tire should not be put in service, regardless of tread wear and usage pattern. Some may think it is a waste of money to change your spare tire which one hardly use; if you just drive in Singapore and distances are very short (50 - 100 km), I think it is OK to use your old spare tire and drive to your usual tire shop for repair and replacement. However, if you travel to Malaysia sometimes, I think a functional spare tire (full size spare or temporary spare) or tire repair kit is important, so that your mobility and safety are not compromised. Drive safely, regularly maintain your vehicle and you would enjoy many years of safe motoring.
  20. Hi All, Which car park have the most freuquent check by HDB or URA Officers? I had ever spoke to one of the Wilson Parking Officers & he said every 2 hours conduct check even the car parking it is EPS system. Somehow I believe if we enter a coupon parking car park we should be given at least 10 minutes of free parking. Reason is that EPS parking have 10 minute grace period, coupon parking should be entitled to. This area some how is lacking & should be improve to benefit for all the motorists.
  21. Found the following info. Guess it is more meant for temperate countries rather than the tropics but still quite a good reference/guide ... Engine Oil In most cars, you just need to pop up your hood, find the oil dipstick, pull it out, and wipe it down. Repeat that again and you'll have your oil level. If it's in the safe level, continue on your merry way. If it's not, you need to add more. Depending on the age of the car, you may or may not need to add oil pretty often. If your car burns through a lot of oil, it's worth going to a mechanic. How often to check it: It was once recommended that you check your oil every time you fill up with gas, but with most modern cars you're safe checking it once a month. How often to replace it: This depends on the car, manufacturer, and year. The "3,000 miles or every six months" saying doesn't really apply any more. Instead, check your owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommendations for changing your engine oil. Transmission Fluid Your transmission fluid is what keeps the gears on your car moving smoothly. You can check your transmission fluid the same way as your engine oil, except the car should be running when you do it. Unlike your engine oil, transmission fluid is part of a closed system, so it should never be low. If it is, take it into a mechanic. Instead of volume, you're looking at the quality of the fluid. The fluid should be red and not smell burned. If the fluid is brown or smells burnt, it's time to replace it. How often to check it: Monthly. How often to replace it: This varies from car to car and depends on transmission type, but it's typically between every 50,000-100,000 miles Coolant As the name implies, coolant, aka antifreeze, keeps your car running cool. If you ever run low on coolant, your car's probably going to overheat. The coolant is inside you radiator and you can typically check it by simply removing the radiator cap when the car is cool (never check it when it's hot or your car is running) and looking inside. Once you remove the cap you should see a line the coolant should come up to. If it's low, you can add more, but make sure you add the same type of coolant currently in the car. How often to check it: At least twice yearly: once before summer and again before winter But it's easy enough to glance at whenever you pop open your hood. How often to replace it: Every 2-3 years. Brake Fluid Just like your transmission, your brake fluid is part of a closed system so you shouldn't ever be low on it. That said, it's still worth checking to make sure it's clean. Brake fluid keeps your brakes working properly, so if they ever feel a little off, checking your brake fluid is usually the first step. You can do this by checking the brake fluid reservoir on the driver side of your car. You can usually check the level just by looking at the outside of the container. The fluid should be a golden color. If it's brown, it's time to replace it. How often to check it: When you change your oil. How often to replace it: Every 2 years Power Steering Fluid Your power steering fluid helps keeps your steering smooth and easy. When the power steering fluid starts to get low, you might feel a "creaking" in the steering wheel or hear some weird sounds. To check it, all you need to do is pop the hood and find the reservoir. Usually you can check it visually by looking at the reservoir. Power steering fluid doesn't usually drop too much, so if it's low, it's worth taking your car into a mechanic or looking for a leak. How often to check it: Once a month. How often to replace it: Between 50,000 miles and never. Typically speaking, most car manuals recommend keeping the power steering fluid levels topped off, but you'll rarely need to flush and replace it. Double check your owner's manual to make sure you can ignore yours
  22. Have a good laugh to the start of the week. Cheers, Rustyz
