  2. After the recent reports on health hazardous related products manufactured in China, next time, during your shopping, would you think twice about products "Made in China"? ---------- Source: http://wineanddine.asiaone.com/Wine%252CDi...0831-23732.html Chocolates to make your skin crawl Aug. 30 - A maggot-filled box of chocolates has raised further concern about the quality of products ''Made in China.'' A South Korean consumer bought a box of imitation Ferrero Rocher during a visit to China. When he opened them back home he found they were infested with maggots. Crawling among the wrappers were dozens of maggots - identified by an expert as the larvae of a small moth. The chocolates - imitation Ferrero Rocher - were bought in China. When the buyer contacted the manufacturer they said he would only get a refund if he took the box back. Consumer rights experts also say proving the contamination occurred at source could be a problem. But even without proof it means more damage to China's already tarnished reputation.
  3. Another scary news... Chopsticks picked up in new China scare Wed Aug 22, 2007 9:44 AM ET BEIJING (Reuters) - A Beijing factory sold up to 100,000 pairs of disposable chopsticks a day without any form of disinfection, a newspaper said on Wednesday, the latest in a string of food and product safety scares. Counterfeit, shoddy and dangerous products are widespread in China, whose exports have been rocked in recent months by a spate of safety scandals, ranging from pet food to medicine, tires, toothpaste and toys. Officials raided the factory and seized about half a million pairs of disposable bamboo chopsticks and a packaging machine, the Beijing News said in a story headlined "Dirty Chopsticks." The owner, identified only by his surname Wu, said he had sold the chopsticks for 0.04 yuan a pair and made an average of about 1,000 yuan ($130) a day. Wu, who had no license to sell the goods, said he had sold 100,000 pairs a day when business was good. China lacks the manpower to enforce food and drug safety regulations at home or for export. Imports are generally carefully scrutinized. Shao Mingli, the country's food and drug watchdog chief, conceded that in recent years the safety situation had "indeed been relatively grim." But in a posting on the central government's Web site (www.gov.cn), Shao vowed it would take "about five years of hard work" to realize an "obvious turnaround" in management order and food and drug safety across the country. "The number of cases of fake food and drug products and criminal activities will be effectively curbed," Shao said. A lack of business ethics and a spiritual vacuum after China embraced economic reforms in the late 1970s have been blamed for unscrupulous business practices and corruption. In Guangzhou, capital of booming Guangdong province in south China, Mayor Zhang Guangning vowed to bankrupt serious violators of food and product safety. The Hong Kong owner of a Guangdong manufacturer at the centre of a recall of millions of Chinese-made toys by U.S. giant Mattel had committed suicide, according to Hong Kong media. China has said the world should have faith in the "made-in-China" label and that a spate of product recalls has been unfair, biased and politically motivated. "No country can guarantee their food to be 100 percent safe, but if one in 100 or even in 1,000 of our products has quality problems, we will deal with it seriously," Commerce Minister Bo Xilai said on Tuesday. "China strongly opposes (some countries) extending individual economic and trade problems, and thus conducting trade protection," Bo said in a report on the ministry's Web site (www.mofcom.gov.cn). In the latest in a series of tit-for-tat measures, China has accused the United States of exporting substandard soybean shipments to China and requested "effective measures" be taken.

  6. Hi. This morning as I pass by Lor 8 Toa Payoh, saw a lot of balloons at the former Renault Commercial Vehicle sale center. Stop and check and discovered that they are promoting China vehicles both the saloon car and van. The saloon cars comes by the name of "SOYAT" and the van are known as "DFM". Both brands are under the AD of Exclusive Auto who for what I know, selling Renault brand. For DFM, is konw as Dong Fang Motor but for SOYAT - ??? I think I drop by tomorrow (after my sleep after night shift) to test drive the vehicle. Look tempting from outside. The showroom is just one building away from Subaru showroom. Lor 8, Toa Payoh.

  11. I notice that despite the close proximity of Hong Kong to China, there are no import of China Cars to Hong Kong. Instead we see a steady stream of China Cars making its way into Singapore. Can we infer that 1. Singapore cars are generally expensive and to compensate this, authorities allow cheaper imports so that more people can own cars unfortunately many here disagree that cars are expensive in Singapore 2. some hanky panky (so sorry no panties got exchanged) deal with china, so china cars can enter singapore

  14. ST 26/4 LESS than a year after Chery became the first China carmaker to enter the Singapore market, a fifth has joined the fray. Hafei Automobile, from China's north-eastern industrial city of Harbin, will launch two 1.1-litre models this weekend: the Lobo and the Minz. The Lobo is a hatchback while the Minz will be sold as a six-seater multi-purpose vehicle or a goods van. They will be distributed from a Kampong Ubi showroom by Hafei Automobile (Singapore), partly owned by Lian Fong Credit - the group which introduced the Chery nine months ago. A Singapore Hafei Automobile spokesman said the Lobo is likely to be priced at around $38,000 - some $5,000 more than the Chery QQ, which will retain the title of Singapore's cheapest car. The price of the Minz has not been fixed yet, but the spokesman indicated that it too will be costlier than the Chery. The cheapest non-China car on the market here is the Perodua Kelisa - a small hatchback going for $35,700. The Chinese invasion began in July last year, with Chery's debut. Geely followed in November, and Soyat and Dongfeng in January. The Straits Times understands that two more Chinese brands are due here this year. The Geelys are sold by entrepreneur Peter Kwee's Group Exklusiv - which also represents Soyat and Dongfeng. Although Hafei is set for this weekend's launch, its cars - and those of Soyat and Dongfeng - have not yet passed a Land Transport Authority inspection, without which they cannot be sold here. Both Chery and Geely have gone through the test and are chalking up good sales - largely because they are the cheapest cars in town. Today, there are more than 500 Cherys and 150 Geelys on Singapore's roads. In the first three months of this year, buyers here drove away with 230 Cherys and 121 Geelys. In the same period, 153 Peroduas, 711 Chevrolets and 1,062 Kias were sold - all slightly costlier. While the China car makes have made an encouraging debut, they have had their share of customer complaints. The most serious to date appears to be from finance and administrative assistant Koh Bee Leng, 30, who bought a $26,300 off-peak Geely CK in mid-February. Two days later, the battery indicator lamp lit up, prompting Ms Koh to send it for checks. No problem was found, but two weeks later the car would not start. It was towed to the workshop and the battery was replaced. However, the air-conditioner then sprang a leak and stopped working. It was repaired, but 'was not cold a week later'. It was back to the workshop once again when a window jammed. Ms Koh collected her car last Thursday, but by Sunday, 'the battery light started blinking again'. Mr Nicholas Ng, general manager for Mr Kwee's Geely business, said Ms Koh's case is an isolated one and that the company has made good to the customer. The Consumers Association of Singapore said it has not received any complaints about China cars.
