  1. Chinese billionaire hires porn star Rola Misaki Japanese porn star Takizawa Rola (Rola Misaki) and the mystery businessman (Picture: Getty) Pretty Woman never got paid this much. A rich businessman has reportedly offered a porn star £5million to be ‘exclusive’ to him for the next 15 years, in a move that would have made Richard Gere’s eyes water in the hit 90s movie. We could only remember Edward (Gere) offering Vivian (Julia Roberts) a shopping spree and a couple of thousand dollars (and, of course, his love) but one incognito Chinese millionaire has gone a step further. The porn star in question is 22-year-old Rola Misaki – also known as Takizawa Rola – who is half Russian and half Japanese. Japanese porn star Rola Misaki (Picture: CEN) The pair have recently attended events together in the Chinese capital Beijing, with the man wearing a mask to hide his identity according to reports in the China Record and the Tokyo Reporter. She won’t be seen in films anytime soon (Picture: CEN) The announcement hasn’t gone down well with her fans, who will be sad to see her go. ‘Nooo! She can’t leave us like this,’ said GuangY, one of her 4.8million followers on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter. Mai86 added: ‘She’s one of the best, a natural. I can’t believe she’s gone off with this man.’ Misaki made her debut in the adult video industry in 2012 with the Prestige Label. And although not finding many fans in Japan she has become a hit in China. 2. Maybe its good for local tourism? or floodgate to overcrowding? SINGAPORE: From next month, the validity of the Multiple Journey Visas (MJVs) issued to nationals from the People’s Republic of China can be extended up to a maximum of 10 years. In a press release on Friday (May 15), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said the same facility will also be extended to their spouse and children below the age of 21, if the main applicant is eligible. Chinese nationals with a valid MJV need not apply for a visa each time they visit Singapore. The move will provide greater convenience for Chinese nationals, especially business travellers, who travel often to Singapore, said ICA. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) welcomed the move and said this will make it easier for tourists from China to visit Singapore, and enhance STB's efforts to increase visitor arrival and tourism spending. Eligible applicants will also be able to use the automated immigration clearance at Singapore’s checkpoints, said ICA, adding that more details will be announced at a later date. - CNA/fs

  4. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/eco...1195857/1/.html Chinese tourists are world's biggest spenders By Yvonne Chan | Posted: 17 April 2012 2248 hrs SINGAPORE: Chinese tourists came out tops again as the world's biggest tax free shoppers in 2011. And they continue to represent the fastest growing group in tax free spending globally, according to the latest intelligence data by financial services company Global Blue. Chinese tourists are welcomed in stores around the world as they generate the biggest tax-free shopping sales globally. Last year, they chalked up more than S$3 billion in tax free shopping transactions. Chinese tourists also represented the highest growth in tax free spending globally year-to-date at 57 per cent, followed by Switzerland with 37 per cent and Taiwan with 34 per cent. Each Chinese shopper's tax-free average spend amounted to more than S$1,341 per person, which is much higher than their Japanese (S$877) and Russian (S$594) counterparts. Singapore also turned out to be their top destination for buying luxury watches and jewellery, with each spending an average of S$8,757 in Singapore, compared to S$7,221 in Italy and S$3,127 in Germany. But that's not all that China tourists spend on. Ravi Thakran, group president of South and Southeast Asia & Middle East at LVMH, said: "The largest business for us in Singapore is the duty free shoppers. We had a PRC customer buying a single bottle of a 62-year-old Dalmore st Claire for S$250,000. This is the highest price paid for a single bottle of whiskey anywhere in the world in a duty free environment. And I'm told that those guys wanted to have their glasses and drink it too. That's the PRC customer for you. Often, we have these customers in our stores and they are certainly now making the highest transaction value per person." Despite the weak economic data and a possible move by the Chinese government to lower import taxes on luxury goods, experts say the spending power of the Chinese shopper remains resilient. Manelik Sfez, vice president of Global Marketing at Global Blue SA, said: "All brands will be able to handle a lower growth base of Chinese travelers because that is the problem today, it's growing so fast. There's so much more people every day to serve so if it were a bit lesser, that wouldn't be a problem. He added: "Their average spending is growing and if they remain at the same level, that would still be more than okay for most brands. I think the emotional drive of traveling abroad and the social positioning that it provides will remain extremely powerful." The Russians used to be the top global spenders but have since been outpaced by the Chinese and this trend is likely to continue, given the rapid population growth and rising affluence in China. Going forward, experts say the top shopping destinations for China citizens will be Singapore, Hong Kong, London and Paris. - CNA/fa
  5. HONG KONG (AFP) - Hong Kong's leader said on Tuesday that the government is looking to restrict the number of Chinese tourists entering the city, following a public backlash over the influx of mainland visitors. The announcement came after a leading travel body said official figures showed the volume of mainland visitors over the Lunar New Year period fell for the first time in almost 20 years - attributing the trend to the frosty reception they receive. "We will continue to speak with Chinese authorities about whether or not there is space to tighten the (visitor) scheme to be able to control the natural trend of increasing mainland visitors in Hong Kong," the city's leader Leung Chun Ying said. Leung said the growing number of Chinese visitors has "put pressure on the everyday life of Hong Kong residents". Residents from 49 Chinese cities can currently apply for a multi-entry travel permit to visit Hong Kong. Leung said that scheme would not be expanded and that he would raise the issue at the next meeting of the National People's Congress - China's parliament - at the beginning of March. Hong Kongers have grown increasingly angry at the number of Chinese traders who travel to Hong Kong's border towns to stock up on everything from iPads to milk powder. Protests against the traders have led to violent clashes over recent weekends, with police using pepper spray. The semi-autonomous southern city of seven million people is also a favourite shopping destination for wealthy mainland visitors eager to stock up on Western luxury brands. Mass democracy protests at the end of last year also showed building anti-China sentiment, with tens of thousands protesting against Beijing's restrictions on the vote for Hong Kong's next leader. Negative sentiment has already led to a drop in visitors over the Chinese New Year according to Hong Kong's Travel Industry Council (TIC), which said it was the first decline in 20 years. Numbers fell 1.09 per cent to 842,124 for a six-day period, compared to the same period last year, immigration department figures show. "I think the string of protests is one reason... the news reports about these kinds of activities certainly upsets their mood for travelling to Hong Kong," TIC executive director Joseph Tung told AFP. He called the drop "alarming" and said Chinese visitors were travelling to other destinations which were more welcoming. But democratic lawmaker Kwok Ka Ki said further curbs were needed. He said an increased number of mainland visitors had "severely hampered" the city's transpiration system and it was harder for people to shop for daily necessities as stores focused on the needs of mainland tourists. "If Hong Kong is unable to accommodate the requests or to change the policy a bit to alleviate the grievances, this could easily turn into more violent incidents like in the past few weeks," Kwok said. - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/asia/east-asia/story/hong-kong-mulls-restrictions-chinese-tourists-following-public-backlash-20#xtor=CS1-10
  6. Blessed Lunar New Year to everybody in this year of the lamb. Have you ever noticed, that the chinese word for righteousness - 義 - is a lamb over a person? Why is this so? Why did the chinese written language, invented approximately 4,500 years ago and said to be the first written language in the world, use these pictures to symbolize righteousness? From my view, since I am a believer, I agree with the explanations given by this person in the following video. Video on Chinese Word - 義 - Righteousness Even more interesting is the explanation for the word - 福. Video on Chinese word - 福 - Blessings Well, this is just my sharing on the first Sunday of March, in 2015. Go do your own research and come to your own conclusions. Peace.

  17. Fifth Season Tangra Chinese from Kolkata – A true fusion of India, China and Tibet. Indian Chinese cuisine was born in Tangra, located on the east of Kolkata, the only China Town in India. The Chinese of Kolkata were best known for mainly leather shoe manufacturers, beauty parlor owners and dentists. Thousands of Hakka Chinese focused their business mainly in leather tanneries at Tangra. Hardworking and ambitious, they would not spare any field, so, why food? Influenced by local culture and taste, they opened restaurants for Bengalis by spicing the bland sauces with hot fresh green chillies. As Bengalis love to eat and explore anything new, they found a new and addictive taste with a perfect balance of hot, sweet and sourness in the dishes. With this identity the Indian Chinese food spread to almost all street corners in Kolkata. Within a short span of time it spread to the whole of India with its regional influence of food habits. The green chillies in Kolkata’s chilli chicken might have got replaced by dry red chilli in Delhi’s chilli chicken, but the Indian Chinese food fever did not spare any Indian from great grandson to great grandfather. You may find Indians not knowing about many regionally popular Indian dishes but you cannot find an Indian not knowing about Hakka Chowmein, Chilli Chicken and Gobi Manchurian. Indian Chinese food transformed into a complete cuisine when thousands of Tibetans migrated to India and added delicacies like thukpa (spicy noodle soup) and momos (special dumpling) which is also the winner of the title ‘Best dish of the year 2009′ by Fifth Season at the Singapore Food Festival 2009. This unique fusion of flavors of India, China and Tibet is brought to you in Singapore by Fifth Season, located within 1 minute of Little India MRT. 19. Chinese auto giant Wanxiang wins Fisker bid By Katie Fehrenbacher Summary: Chinese auto parts giant Wanxiang has won a bid for electric car maker Fisker for $149 million, and a judge has approved it. Will they restart production of the Karma and make the Atlantic soon? A Delaware judge approved the sale of bankrupt electric car maker Fisker and its assets to Chinese auto parts giant Wanxiang, according to local reports on Tuesday. Wanxiang, which also bought up bankrupt battery maker A123 Systems in late 2012, won the bid over Hong Kong billionaire Richard Li’s company Hybrid Technology, and the auction occurred over the end of last week. As Quartz put it, the auction had “pitted two Chinese billionaires against one another: Wanxiang’s Lu Guanqiu vs. Hong Kong telecoms titan Richard Li.” Wanxiang bid $149 million for Fisker, which is substantially larger than some earlier prices that had been offered, but just a fraction of Fisker’s valuation at one time. Lu’s advantages were that Wanxiang owns A123 — which made the batteries for Fisker’s Karma car — and also that he appeared to be willing to bail out unsecured creditors. Ray Lane’s Fisker Karma Wanxiang has said if it wins the bid it can soon restart production on Fisker’s first electric car, the Karma, and it can start providing parts and services for current Karmas on the roads. It will also resume development of the second car, the Atlantic. Only about 2,000 Karmas were sold before Fisker stopped production. Wanxiang’s U.S. division, based in Elgin, Illinois, has 6,000 workers in the U.S. and $2.5 billion in annual revenue. The Chinese company has a total of $13 billion in revenue and 45,000 employees across the world. The head of Wanxiang America, Pin Li, called cleantech “the new frontier for civilization,” in an interview with me a couple years ago. The company is involved in all types of clean technology, from electric cars, to solar, to wind farms, to batteries. Wanxiang has also invested $420 million into GreatPoint Energy, a company based in Cambridge, Mass. that converts coal into cleaner-burning natural gas. At the time that deal was described by the Wall Street Journal as “the largest ever by a Chinese corporation into a venture-capital-funded U.S. company.” Wanxiang also invested in another struggling company electric car company Smith Electric Vehicles. As with Wanxiang’s deal with A123, controversy will follow the realization that a Chinese conglomerate will likely be taking over an electric car maker that got substantial funding from the U.S. government. But as I reported yesterday, there’s money coming from Asia for some of these hard to fund cleantech innovations. Is the world ready for more Karmas? The car received weak reviews and the brand has been tarnished substantially. But clearly there’s been high demand for Tesla and its cars, so if a revived Fisker can overcome its past problems, it could find a market for its cars.
  20. Coffee shop operator Kelvin Ling of 128 Choices Eating House at Toa Payoh Lorong 1 will keep his eateries open over the festive period to attract people who will be visiting their relatives nearby. Chinese New Year is typically a time for shop owners and their staff to rest, but some businesses will remain open as they see this as a perfect opportunity to reap profits. Supermarket chains, coffee shops and even foodcourts have chosen to stay open in recent years, with many citing increases in daily takings of up to 30 per cent, compared with an average day. Even 12 out of the 18 malls along the Orchard Road shopping belt will remain open this year, said the Orchard Road Business Association (Orba). They include Ion Orchard, Orchard Central, Paragon, Wisma Atria and The Centrepoint. Coffee shop operator Kelvin Ling, 35, said he noted a 50 per cent increase in patronage over the Chinese New Year holiday period last year at his two coffee shops. He runs 128 Choices Eating House at Toa Payoh Lorong 1 and HG 106 Food Place at Hougang Avenue 1.
