  1. It's confirmed. Cars, or more specifically hatchbacks are getting their design cues from sneakers or basketball shoes. Kia recently decided to unveil the Track'star Concept car at the upcoming Chicago Motor Show and that blunt front end, a steeply raked windscreen and chopped off rear hatchback coupled with a funky, garish, bright, shocking, loud (your choice) colour scheme and a basketball high-cut sneaker is what it reminds me of. It's true. Just take a look at the photo of a basketball sneaker above and you can see the comparison. it has the same lines - snub front, the steep shoelace eyelet tabs and that bright colour scheme is exactly like the Kia Track'star above. And then you realise that this must be extremely correct as Kia named the car Track'star. There is a shoe based theme going on here. But one must note that I think the first sneaker-like hot hatch isn't the Kia Track'star mentioned above. That falls to the Citroen DS3 Racing. The DS3 Racing really went the sports shoe way first. Take a look at the colour scheme and the very 'in-your-face' graphics and decals on the roof and just in front of the rear arches. Even Clarkson (yes, that chap from TopGear) mentioned that the Citroen was like a pair of Air Jordans. One might also argue that the BMW Mini Cooper S is the first sneaker car. But I have to say that it isn't as e with even the one with the Union Jack pattern on the roof (or whatever pattern) is actually similar to the original from the 1960s. The high-cut colourful basketball sneaker like the one popularised by Michael Jordan or Michael J. Fox in Back To The Future wasn't invented yet. So it is this new crop of cars that have actually made the sports sneaker-hot hatch styling come to fruit. What next for the future of car design? I actually have no idea but the future looks bright and very sports shoe-like for the moment.

  3. ht tp://www.gizmag.com/citroen-tubik-concept-high-tech-executive-shuttle-bus/19714/ Yet another interesting mobility idea to be seen for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show is Citroen's Tubik concept - a high-tech, high-comfort, connected executive shuttle. The idea came from Citroen's Multicity project, an online route-finder portal that provides a door-to-destination transport solution using all available modes - car, train, bus, plane etc. In looking at the big picture, Citroen realised that something was missing - a vehicle was needed that was more than a taxi and more flexible than a limousine. The Citroen Tubik is that solution. It has been fashioned using the latest technologies to be uber-comfortable with a flexible interior adaptable to carry a group of people or a single person and luggage. To make Tubik look even more protective, Citroen designers combined two contrasting colours: the metal grey of the body shell envelops the pearlescent white at either end, marking the position of the combustion engine (at the front) and electric motor (at the rear) used by the full-hybrid diesel drive train. With this simple but attractive exterior, the large two-way panoramic window and two large doors giving access to the driving position and living area are barely visible. The driver's door is rear-opening while the side door runs in a circle to free up the entire side of the vehicle.

  5. Any feedback on these 2 cars? I'm looking at 2nd hand 06-07 model, i feel the price is reasonable compared to Jap cars of the same yr. My concern is the part availability and maintainence of the car. What are the things i need to take note when choosing 2nd hand C3 or Meriva?

  10. Alright Guys, I appreciate you all for answering to my previous topics. Now, I've really caught up in a dilemma . My Family and I finally came up with Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6 and Hyundai i45 2.0. My Family is a member of 4, including me. Generally tall(1.75m - 1.92m). We are looking for a spacious, a good branded, and a unique car. Both cars look good and have some similar features. So, I would appreciate it if you all can guide me through this and help me decide Which one to buy??
  11. kangoo is almost 5 yrs old ... great ride but heart itching for a new ride... intended to get the big brother dispatch but decided against it.. coz it seemed intimidating to drive and park.. so had a look at the various rides and decided that pricing wise berlingo would be more suited for me ok..small review here of the new berlingo here goes... exterior nice looking..its bigger then the old one.. with long wheel base and short wheel base... think diff of onli a few cm..but 2k diff SWB..will not be coming in anymore..LWB will be the in thing roof flap available onli for the SWB... interior its bigger then the old one.. able to fit in a whole palette supposingly. dashboard is realli deep and nice.. with many compartments hidden and unknown storage here and there.. what i like is able to sit 3 in front.. so it feels like a big van though it is a small one left most seat able to lift up and down... down to accomodate long cargo at the rear.. up to accomodate flower pot(as told by SE) this being done by pulling the blue 'hooks' provided.. center seat able to push down.. to allow the driver to place documents ..or pens.. useful if on delivery where delivery notes can be placed nicely in this manner nice big aircon vents... feels spacy inside.. feels like sitting in a SUV... feels higher then my kangoo.. clutch is super light... yet to test drive..but so far me feel this is a considerable ride for those looking to own a van not sure if this is the same engine as the old berlingos or if parts are the same.. but if they are...i think one can be rest assured.. because of lately .. i am seeing more and more berlingos on the road though for this new model i have seen only 2... test drive did a test drive earlier on... put in the keys, turned them...and here we go stepped lightly on the clutch engaged the reverse gear.. nice and smooth... pick up on the straights..pretty decent.. sufficent to overtake ..and turbo kicks in slightly after 2k rpm braking is good... though SE was not sure if it was rear drums or rear discs.. though i was pretty sure that it was stated rear discs in the brochure comes with standard 1 airbags...ABS..EBD... running on 195/60/R15 if i am not wrong.. there is a premium edition for 3k more... with leather seats gps on radio(2 din HU) or sat nav in short fully carpeted rear interiors will post pics soon..and though this is a car forum.. i hope peeps here will not mind me sharing with u.. what may be my next ride

    Citroen C5

Hi Everyone, I'm a C5 1.8L (auto) owner. Would like to invite other Citroen C5 owners to share their encounter so far with Advance Automobile and the performance of their car. C5 is relatively new in Singapore. I believe it hit the road around Aug 2001 (correct me if I'm wrong). Any views or opinions welcome ! Thank you.
  13. I was doing the test drive rounds today, looking for a MODERATELY priced sedan to replace the wife's ride as the family mover for 3 adults 2 children. It looks like the best fit is either the C5 or the Superb Needs to satisfy the wife's criteria of: Non-MPV; non-hatchback; DVD player; comfort; overtaking oomph; GPS built-in preferred; I am familiar with Volvos and BMWs, but not looking to spend that much on the 2nd car. Having settled on the $100-110 as the price I want to pay, I have test driven the following so far. Includes a couple of stand-outs from that budget range as I wanted to be sure of what I'm missing - Toyota Prius - Skoda Superb - Citroen C5 - Subaru Legacy - MB B200 Turbo - MB C200K Some brief test drive notes. Any comments welcome - Toyota Prius 106K Pros -Huge fuel savings, esp with 70% city driving for the wife -Modern design/fancy electronic dashboard -'green' catchet - steady driving, smooth acceleration/deceleration - plenty of available stock (anyone else read the bad press? 8) ) Cons - lightweight, hybrid-friendly fabric replaced with 'local leather' - cheap interior - a little heavy - soft handling - tight rear seats, though plenty of legroom - MY09 cars. Any comment on buying MY09 car this late in the year? - Skoda Superb 116K Pros - lots of kit for the money - everything VAG has to offer - great looking interior - not sure about how long-lasting it is - 5 star NCAP - great acceleration and handling from 1.8T 7DSG Cons - Skoda - lots of poor reviews internationally on the web, though maybe not this version. Top Gear's review is hilarious - MY09 in stock - which might explain the low price. Any comment on buying MY09 car this late in the year? - local leather - reliability and servicing frequency? anyone care to comment? - 'normal' incentive of 3 free servicing and price level made conditional upon in-house insurance and minimum 50K/7 year financing. - not sure how bad depreciation could be after 3-5 years.. - Citroen C5 110K Pros - lots of kit for the money, interior a match for the Skoda - entirely imported internals - a MUCH smoother ride, the best I've taken. great for sleeping children in the back - Euro NCAP 5 star - Citroen's buy-back guarantee, which caps max depreciation at 50% after 3 years... Cons - weak acceleration, a far cry from the Skoda - steering not as sharp as it could be - reliability and servicing frequency? anyone care to comment? - 3 yr, 60K warranty - probably the worst terms among all the makes - Subaru Legacy 2.0 CVT 97K Pros - Cheapest of the cars tested - sharp handling - internal kit does not match the Skoda/Citroen, but not as 'ah pek' as the Camry Cons - acceleration could be better, but there's always the 2.5GT - wife doesn't like the Subaru radio ads and the image they project - MB B200 Turbo $139K Pros - the badge, albeit the almost the lowest end model (yeah yeah almost as bad as a badge whore). There's always the B170 at $118K.... - engine has enough oomph - lots of space for the money - both headroom and legroom are amazing for the size of the car - Euro NCAP 5 star - reputation for safety/reliability - 5K overtrade Cons - wobbly at speed and around curves - kit is worst of all the cars I've tested, barring maybe the low-spec Legacy 2.0 - MB C200K $159K Pros - Much better package than the B200, at $20K more - much sharper acceleration and handling than the B200 - 5K overtrade Cons - price - price - price
  14. To those who intend to purchase a Citroen Nemo or a Peugeot Bipper Tepee do consider asking one or two important questions; does it come with ESP and if it does not, is there an option to get it fitted? This is because the Nemo when subjected to the elk test turned turtle. The ADAC, which is Germany's Automobile Association and Which? Magazine conducted a group test on the mechanically similar Fiat Qubo, Peugeot Bipper Tepee and the Citroen Nemo Multispace. The elk test conducted meant that the cars were driven towards a chicane at 90km/h, then at the chicane a swerve maneuver, left and right as if avoiding a stray animal (like an elk) crossing the road. This test was mad famous when the original Mercedes A-class failed it spectacularly. The Fiat Qubo passed the test as the model tested was equipped with an optional Electronic Stability Program (ESP). The next car tested was the Citroen Nemo, which wasn't equipped with ESP and when going through the elk test, landed on its roof. The Peugeot version wasn't tested as it didn't feature ESP also and obviously the testers did not want to risk a repeat incident. Both Citroen and Peugeot do not offer ESPs on both vehicles in petrol forms and only as an option in the diesel version. There seems to be a diesel version of the Citroen sold in Singapore and from the looks of it, ESP isn't specced. So people looking to buy this Citroen should better check to see whether it now has such an option. Those that have bought one should see if the dealer can retrofit such a system as it may be dangerous. Even that the mostly slow average speeds of vehicles in Singapore it may be dangerous as it still rains, and accidents do happen. I do know that the PSA group aren't taking things seriously enough as a spokesman said that the elk test is too severe and their normal test procedures do not include it. I'm sorry but I have to disagree. These vehicles are vehicles that are still used on highways and also speed unlimited places like the Autobahn. An incident resulting in emergency manuvers may happen at speeds in excess of 90km/h. I mean, 90km/h is not that fast. It is the speed limit for most urban highways all around the world. In fact Citroen will only fit the ESP standard on diesel Nemos from September of this year, and petrol models will get it even later as they haven't developed one yet. Fiat and Peugeot will follow suit. But no actual news from them too on this. Amazing. Utterly amazing. Click to see the video of the test if you're interested in watching a Nemo bite the dust. 17. - a Peugeot 107 The Toyota recall debacle over its faulty accelerator pedal has spread its wings. We now find out that thousands of Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 are being recalled. According to sources, up to a hundred thousand units in total could be affected. The reason for this is that both models are based on a Toyota. The Toyota Aygo. - Citroen C1 - Toyota Aygo Amazing what all of this platform sharing technology has gotten car manufacturers into. While platform sharing saves cost, allowing two or three different manufacturers to produce their own variants of the same car, we now know that defects may be shared due to parts sharing. All three cars are manufactured in Czechoslovakia (most probably for Europe/ left hand drive markets) in the same factory. Toyota is recalling up to 1.8 million cars all over Europe aside from the few million affected over in the United States and China. On another note, Honda would recall close to 650,000 of its Fit/Jazz and City models, including 140,000 in the United States, because of a faulty window switch, after a child died when fire broke out in a car last year. The years affected are the 2007-2008 models of which an overlap of the new and the old Fit/Jazz models took place. In other words, if you bought the last batch of Fit, Jazz or City, your car may be subject to the recall. Unless yours is a grey import Japan manufactured model which according to Honda isn't affected by all this drama. The thing is, to date (10.00am Monday 1st Feb), there have been no official press release on Kah Motors Honda Singapore on its official website. I'd suggest potential 'victims' of this problem contact the nearest Honda service center as soon as it is possible. Imagine a little short circuit causing your Honda to burst into flames. - If you own this Honda, you may want to make a visit to your neighborhood Honda Service Center. It is now time for all of the above car manufacturers to get into damage control mode and really stop the bleeding. Aside from a damaged reputation, an example of the monetary amount that could be lost from this matter, the National Automobile Dealers Association of America estimates that their Toyota dealers could lose up to US$2.5 billion in revenue and another few hundred million in recall fixes. Imagine the stock market losses too.

  19. http://www.xxxxxxx.com/news/news.php?newsid=1760 New engines are co-developed with BMW, the 1.6 Turbo seems quite impressive. Hopefully it doesn't get paired with a stone-age transmission. C4 1.6 16V VTi 120hp (Variable valve lift and Timing Injection) The VTi 120hp petrol engine, with a manual or automatic gearbox, replaces the 1.6i 16V 110hp unit, offering an economical and responsive driving experience, with fuel efficiency of 42.2mpg and CO2 emissions of 159g/km on the combined cycle (down 6% on the former unit). The VTi unit is fitted with an aluminium block and cylinder head and features continuously variable valve timing. The intake valves also benefit from a system that allows their maximum travel to be adjusted gradually depending on the force applied to the accelerator pedal. These two features boost engine efficiency and increase responsiveness with some 90% of maximum torque available all the way through the rev range from under 2,000 through to 6,000rpm. C4 1.6i 16V THP 150hp (Turbo High Pressure The new THP 150hp (Turbo High Pressure) engine provides the perfect blend of higher performance, driving pleasure and economy with significantly lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. With its six-speed manual gearbox, the THP 150hp
