  1. http://classifieds.singnet.com.sg/details.cfm?id=129 look whats for sale, there is another red one at carexchange.com......anyone knows whats the different types, always hear eg6/eg9???....what else, all i know is civic is hell of a expensive ....so have to face reality a drive a down to earth car......wira
  2. 2003 Honda Civic 1.6A Vti Premium Edition = $81288 (3 bids non-guarenteed COE) I went with my dad, to Ubi today to look at both cars. Looked at Civic first, the one in the showroom was black in colour, very chiou. Sat inside it and loved the leather interior and driver space. My dad didn't like the back seat because the floorboard behind, was high, in a sense that shen you sat down, your knees would be high up to your tummy level. My dad has a beer belly, so I could imagine the discomfort with this kind of sensation. In addition, taller rear passengers will also be affected. The removal of the middle "bump" is a welcome feature though, all cars should adopt this. The doors close with nice "thud" sound, as expected, but when I tried pressing the sides of the leather-trimmed doors, they moved-in quite a bit, indicating the "hollowness" of the side doors. I expected wood-trim but it wasn't an option. Damn! Test-Drive : I've not driven a VTEC engine more than 2 times in my life, so I'm quite a newbie to it. Did not hear any VTEC activation sounds, though I can feel the car surging with ease when its activated. Acceleration is very smooth and instant, like a sports car. The engine is very responsive and the throttle is very sensitive to the touch. Depress it a little and the RPM shoots up to 3K already. It's really a joy to drive, and the engine sounds so sporty when reved hard that I'm drooling as I type this. The road noise however, is quite apparent, and so is the engine noise. Those opting for a quiet drive should steer clear of this mean machine. The SE told me that as the car is using Bridgestone performance tyres, the road noise will be more apparent. 2003 Toyota Corolla 1.6A VVTi Deluxe = $80888 (classic plan : 3 months COE bidding) After lunch we headed to Borneo Motors and looked at the corolla. The face-lifted corolla now had a more classy front grill and nicer headlights. The back strip right above the number plate has now been elongated and nice chrome platings nicely adorn it. Because of the nice subtle changes at both the front and back of the car, it doesn't resemble a "Fat Pig" as much as before. However, comparing the exterior to the Honda, the Honda is the clear winner. I think no one will argue that. The corolla comes with 14" alloys(Civic has 15") and I think that's a BIG NoNo. The interior of the corolla is what captivated me and my dad. My dad was like, "No need to think already, get this!". Classy Biege leather and tasteful walnut woodgrain embraced the "continental-looking" interior of the corolla, I felt like a CEO in the car, heehee. The driver space was as good as the civic's, but the rear seats are more spacious and comfortable. I think its because the Corolla's siting position is higher, so your legs are more comfortable, and also, its easier to enter and exit the vehicle. Interior build quality is definately better than the civic, cos everything feels solid. Door closes with a nice thud as well and I prefer the door handles of the corolla(more classy i think). The lever that opens the fuel cap and boot are UGLY and cheapo. I mean did Toyota overlook this part. It's really an eyesore that I think of it. Thankfully that lever is under and beside the driver's seat, so you won't see it while driving. Honda's lever is much better designed. The speedometer is a sporty blue colour similar to civic's, and the aircon is climate-control Test Drive : I braked and the whole car jerked! Realised that it was using front and rear disk brakes, but then the brake pedal is still too sensitive man, maybe need to get used to it. Acceleration was nothing spectacular, now that I've driven the civic, so I now use it to benchmark other cars. I didn't have a good route to test the car as during that time, there was quite a lot of traffic at Ubi already. All I can say is that the corolla is not as REV-friendly as the civic, however the acceleration is also very smooth although slightly slower. Road noise was noticeably lower than the civic and I couldn't feel the road vibrations at all. It's really a very comfortable car to drive. Damn, what if I fall asleep while driving it?!? OK, that's about it, my personal opinion and nothing more.
  3. The problem with the CVT is: shuddering of the CVT belt when moving off at full throttle from a stop. The belt slips, basically. If you like to sprint, my suggestion is to get a manual. I have a friend driving ES who has replaced 3 CVTs already. I also suggest you visit SHC and do a search on CVT in the ES folder. It's been discussed there many times.. post your questions there as there are at least 20 people there who can help you with your queries
  4. Was outside Devil's bar when i saw a porsche C4 speeding damn FAST. Then saw a Civic EG6 chasing it. The EG6 (I think drop until 1/2 gear) still cannot catch the C4. And end up @ takashimaya there. The EG6 banged into 2 cars infront! A girl was inside the EG6, i think end up with quite a number of cuts. I don't know felt sad for the guy or felt sad for the girl. Nowadays singaporeans balls getting bigger. EG6 also wanna chase C4. He think his EG6 is devil!
  5. Hi, i went to the mechanic and was told my carburettor is more or less gone. The parts are hard to find. Wonder if anyone here got any lobang to scrap car yards or 2nd hand shops that i can find spares for my carburettor? Mine is a '83 4dr Honda Civic. Was told the carburettor casket(dun know if its spelt like that) could be leaking.
  6. Just wanna check with u guys any comments on this vehicle....planning to get it at the end of the year, however, i still do keep the option open....would like to hear more abt the car from some owners abt it...thanks
  7. I was on my way to fetch my wife (from a wedding) this evening....driving down Hougang Ave towards East Coast (wedding at Paramount), when I see a yellow EG6 at the traffic lights. I was caught behind a slow vehicle, so I never got to have a closer look, but I did spy an oversized tailpipe. Just where the new detour was (from Hougang to Eunos), a bunch of TP bikes had pulled over at the side of the road, with a tow truck as well (I wonder what kind of sting operation involves a tow truck)....so he slowed down, and as I was trying to catch up with him (overtaking the stupid lorry going at 30kmh on the left) I almost missed seeing them, but managed to keep my speed below 60 throughout the detour portion... I actually wanted to catch up through the bends at high speed....because there was no traffic in front of the lorry...only the Civic. The Civic driver was even more "kuai".. going at 50 or less. This allowed me to get infront of him at the junction with Airport Road. As it was late in the evening (about 9+), the traffic was relatively light along Eunos link , yet not that clear, requiring me to filter in order to pass the slower vehicles along the way. I had the civic behind me, and he decided to parallel me...maybe to see who I was ... I drove on....and as his lane came to a crawl, I was once again past him...but no sooner than I had increased my speed, when I spot a pair of headlights bearing down on me. And so I had a "bright" shadow behind me from opposite Ubi Driving Centre....all the way to Joo Chiat Place. One that kept speeding up and filtering a split second after I did (kinda like Peter Pan's shadow). Then.....as we stopped at the traffic junction, he decided to try the middle lane... because the vehicle in front of mine had decided not to go straight but to turn (without signalling...and the lane was not even meant for turning). Suddenly, the vehicle in front completed his lane change manouevre (there was a turning lane on the right), and I sped forward as the lights turned green. My car can hit almost 10s flat for the century sprint, and a stock Civic SIR can do it in about 7s, but I had the early jump. As I cleared 40kmh (within the yellow box), I noticed he had changed back to come up from behind me....and by the time I had hit 80 and wanted to change my gear to 3rd, he was along side me....and as I kept on flooring my accelerator, he pulled away from me (approx from 100-150 ) faster than a WRX would have (I have taken on a few...). As he passed me, I could here a special sound....above the VTEC that was already in full song. I think it was a supercharger (no BOV or Wastegate sounds). Damn....he was as fast as the Ferrari 355 I took on in the CTE..... just blistering speed and acceleration! The only thing that should have warned me about the car's potential.... a "Something" Racing logo across the bonnet. I didn't have a good look, but it was not Venom Speed! Fast car.... Very Fast Car
  8. Just posting a warning in case, from the adverts in the papers and the misleading signs in the Kah motors showroom, anyone here is fooled into thinking that the Civic RS has actually come to Singapore. Basically, the RS is a different car altogether, it's the ES3 while the civics here are the ES1 (VTI-s) and ES8 (the others). It has rear disc brakes, the same 1.7 liter engine as the ES1, full bodykit, no sunroof, no side strips (door protectors), body-coloured strip on the bonnet, body coloured strip on the trunk above the number plate, donut headrests, black interior, and most importantly, the chassis code is ES3. I'm not sure about gearing ratios and clutch setup. Anything else is NOT a real Civic RS. Basically, the "RS" at Kah motors is some cosmetically done up thing, with some of the bodykits, RS floormats, RS leather trim (but is not black), 16 inch rims, and is applied to any of the VTI-s, VTi and EXi for something like $4k, which you can probably do a better price at some aftermarket place. I can't believe Kah actually tried to pass that off as an RS. What are they going to do next? Put DC5 bodykit on the Integra iS and pass it off as a Type-R? *shudder*
  9. will it come here to sg?
