  2. Who is the owner of the track n trains? Who do the commissioning n inspection tests? Who accept n sign for it? Very poor workmanship on the cables, n slip shod acceptance test! If both are done by Singapore workers n Singaporean engineers, this is indeed a sad mentality. Don't know how many other important facilities are likely to be compromised in quality and safety standards, power plants, airports, HDB n condos,etc.... LTA to replace Circle Line's faulty cables Defective and damaged cables along the Circle Line will be replaced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The Straits Times reported today that the faults in the cables were found to be due to poor workmanship and manufacturing defects. As such, Alstom, the contractor in charge of laying the cables, will bear the replacement cost.
  3. This weekends, SIN Show at SG Expo Hall 3. Yahoo Report : Cars and girls of SIN return after two-year hiatus Fans of import rides and models have been anxiously waiting and frequently asking when the next Super Import Nights (SIN) will be. SIN is a homegrown aftermarket automotive exhibition with a wide range of aftermarket parts and accessories, modified cars and of course, car show models. After a two-year break, SIN returns for its fourth instalment on 25 to 27 May 2012 at Singapore Expo Hall 3. As they get extremely busy preparing for the show, I managed to squeeze a quick word with Simon Foo and Chris Ang of Three Angles Production, the men behind this show. Q: What's new about this year's SIN? A: We have a different focus now

  5. I was travelling along PIE towards Changi and I saw a male TP, in white riding a scooter. Those scooter that mostly only TP rides. In fact this is the 3rd time I have seen them riding scooters. Even though I dun really like TPs but I do have my respect for these men in blue in their macho WRXs or in white riding on their Honda or Yamaha. They certainly dun look too manly in that gentle machine. I know about policemen in bikes in certain NPCs. So now TP in scooters???

  9. Man pays 'sinseh' $12k, ends up losing both kidneys Wednesday, Mar 07, 2012 The Star/Asia News Network KUALA LUMPUR - A factory operator lost both his kidneys after seeking treatment from a so-called sinseh, who used at least 60 needles to poke his head and abdomen "to flush toxins out of his body". Besides getting an infection after just two sessions, Wong Kim Min, 47, said his abdomen was also bloated for some time. Wong, who has been suffering from kidney problems for the past 10 years, said he consulted the sinseh, known as Dr Lau, on July 5 last year. The sinseh, in his late 20s, was introduced to him by a friend. "He claimed that he could treat me as my problem was just a minor medical condition," Wong said, adding that he was asked to pay RM30,000. As part of the treatment, the sinseh used needles to poke Wong's head and abdomen without giving any anaesthetic. "After the first session, I suffered severe pain and started developing high fever. My abdomen was also swollen," he said. "I called Dr Lau but he advised me not to seek treatment at any hospital as I would be given antibiotics which would worsen my condition," he told a press conference organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Depart-ment head Datuk Seri Michael Chong here yesterday. Wong said three days later, he went back for a second treatment session whereby syringes were used on him again. "My situation worsened after that. I could no longer urinate, so I decided to seek treatment four days later at Ampang Hospital where I was told that blood clots had blocked my urinary tract." Wong said he was transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital the next day but his condition was so bad that the doctors had to remove both kidneys to save his life. He was discharged 38 days later. Wong said he now has to undergo dialysis every two days. "I cannot urinate because I do not have a kidney and I am only allowed to drink 300ml of water a day," he said, adding that he also suffers from sleeplessness and dizziness. Wong's lawyer Tan Kim Soon said a police report had been lodged against the practitioner on Jan 31. "He was then arrested and remanded. However, in a letter dated Feb 10, my client was told by the police that no further action could be taken against the sinseh due to lack of evidence," he said. He said he would write a letter on behalf of Wong to ask the police to review the case.
  10. Business Times - 28 Feb 2012 More projects prepare for launching Hong Leong sells 160 units at Bartley Residences at average $1,240 psf By KALPANA RASHIWALA (SINGAPORE) Even as Hong Leong Group is understood to have sold about 160 units at Bartley Residences last week, other developers are getting ready to roll out their projects in the next few months. These include Tuan Sing's Seletar Park Residence; Far East Organization's Greenwood Mews (a 62-unit cluster housing development in the Bukit Timah area) and 416-unit Hillsta condo in Choa Chu Kang; and Frasers Centrepoint's Palm Isles condo at Flora Drive in the Upper Changi area. Those looking for strata office units can also check out Far East's PS100 next month, which will comprise 100 units of 402 sq ft to 507 sq ft spread across five levels (7-11) of a 27-storey tower at Peck Seah Street near Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. The tower will also include the 314-room Oasia Downtown Hotel. The strata offices will have a floor-to-floor height of about five metres - higher than the 3-3.5 metres for typical offices. PS100 is slated for completion next year. Over in Seletar, Tuan Sing is expected to preview around mid-March its 99-year leasehold condo, Seletar Park Residence. Pricing for the 276-unit, five-storey development is expected to take after The Greenwich next door, where transactions have ranged from $1,244 psf to $1,512 psf over the past four months based on caveats data. However, as an analyst points out, half of The Greenwich's 319 units are one bedders, allowing higher per square foot pricing to be extracted. As for Seletar Park Residence, 93 or a third of the project's units are one-bedders. The project has 113 two-bedders, 46 three-bedders and 24 four-bedroom apartments. The project is being designed by award-winning SCDA Architects. Tuan Sing is developing Seletar Park Residence on a site that it clinched at a state tender in December 2010 for $468 per square foot per plot ratio (psf ppr). 'We are preserving a row of raintrees on the site and will design a board walk and tree house around them, as part of our 'green' and sustainability efforts. We will also include a golf driving simulator room in our project,' said Tuan Sing chief financial officer Chong Chou Yuen. The group also has another 99-year leasehold condo plot, next to Potong Pasir MRT Station, on which it is planning a project of about 312 units, including townhouses. A launch is likely around end-June, said Mr Chong. The project is being designed by MKPL Architects. Tuan Sing has a third residential project, at the freehold Serene House site in the Cluny Park Road area opposite Botanic Gardens MRT Station. The 63-unit low rise project is likely to be released towards end-September, Mr Chong estimated. For the whole of last week (Feb 20-26), Far East sold 66 units including joint venture projects. The three top-selling projects were Watertown in Punggol (17 units), The Hillier in the Hillview area (14 units) and euHabitat at Jalan Eunos (four units sold). To date, 917 of Watertown's 992 units have been taken up since sales began in January. As for The Hillier, 446 of its 528 units have found takers, while the 748-unit euHabitat has seen 651 units being snapped up. Hong Leong meanwhile is said to have sold some 160 units at Bartley Residences since Tuesday last week. The average price after discounts is $1,240 psf.

  13. Graduates working as maids in Shanghai SHANGHAI: In Shanghai, a small but increasing number of highly educated graduates are choosing to work as maids. As more expats and local talents relocate to Shanghai to live and work, demand for qualified domestic helpers is on the rise. The pay is attractive as qualified domestic workers can earn up to US$5 per hour, double the usual rate. Domestic workers caring for post-pregnancy women and babies typically earn more than US$900 a month. That is almost double the average pay of a fresh university graduate, which is less than US$500. Shanghai Women's Federation's chief Sun Mei E, said: "They see this as a sunrise industry. Hence, many are willing to come into this, especially college graduates and those with higher education. There is also a small portion of them who aim to set up their own domestic services company." Thirty-year-old Li Na chose to become a domestic worker despite objections from her family. She now earns up to US$2300 a month. Helping out in expat homes, she said learning to speak English and paying special attention to the needs of these foreigners adds value to her service. "I noted down where the Consulate General of different countries were as well as where they can go shopping or buy groceries. Some of them are only here for two or three years and will like to explore the country in the shortest time possible by making use of weekends. You can do research and share travel tips with them," said Li. What she offers is a far cry from the bulk of domestic helpers in Shanghai made up of migrants from rural parts of the country who may not have had much education. Some may have different perceptions of cleanliness and are not used to household chores in the city, such as the cleaning of carpets and washing of delicate clothes. To help them, the Shanghai Women's Federation organizes free training. Through a simulation of the home environment, students get a chance to experience the modern lifestyle in both a typical Chinese kitchen and a more western design kitchen. The students will also get to learn how to use more high technology electrical appliances. There are currently 500,000 domestic helpers in Shanghai.

  17. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1173487/1/.html 3/4-tank rule to apply to CNG, petrol-CNG vehicles from Jan 1 Posted: 27 December 2011 1138 hrs SINGAPORE: With effect from January 1, the three-quarter tank rule will also apply to compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel supply tanks of CNG vehicles and petrol-CNG vehicles. The rule currently applies to petrol fuel supply tanks of Singapore-registered motor vehicles leaving Singapore. The Singapore Customs said the extension is because CNG becomes a dutiable fuel from January 1, 2012 as announced in Budget 2009. The Minister for Finance had then said that an excise duty of S$0.20 per kg will be imposed on CNG from January 1, 2012. This also means that from January 1, manufacturers of CNG will need to apply for a licence from Singapore Customs. CNG manufacturers will have to account for the quantity of CNG fuel produced, dispensed and sold, and pay duties on a monthly basis. CNG pump prices will also include duty and Goods and Services Tax (GST) from January 1. Singapore Customs said it has sent letters to owners of CNG vehicles to inform them of the changes. - CNA/cc
  18. Most countries are contracting coming years but we are expanding North ............. Yahoo news reported : UPDATE 1-Temasek sets up new unit to invest in North Asia SINGAPORE, Jan 3 (Reuters) - Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings said on Tuesday it has set up a new subsidiary called Pavilion Capital Pte Ltd that will invest primarily in privately owned firms in North Asia. The wholly owned subsidiary will be headed by Temasek's former chief investment officer, Tow Heng Tan, a Temasek spokeswoman said in a statement. The fund will have at least $1 billion to invest and Tow will be based in Singapore, a source familiar with the plans told Reuters. "This new platform will focus on funds and direct investments in North Asia, particularly to expand our current reach and coverage of the opportunities with privately owned enterprises and small and medium enterprises in China," Temasek said. Temasek hired former Merrill Lynch Southeast Asia investment banking head Tan Chong Lee as its new chief investment officer late last year. Temasek had a portfolio worth S$193 billion ($148.85 billion) as of March 31, 2011. The state investor invests primarily in emerging markets. A number of senior executives in Temasek have moved to funds linked to the state investor or have left in the company in the last few months. Prominent ones included Charles Ong, a senior managing director, who joined his brother Richard to advise on his $2.3 billion private equity firm RRJ Capital. Temasek's India head, Manish Kejriwal, also decided to step down to explore the creation of a new fund in India while head of strategy, Jimmy Phoon, became chief executive officer of Temasek-linked investment firm Seatown Holdings . 20. it will be calculated based on how much u will earn if u actually prostitute your body at Geylang even though you do not prositute and is a faithful man and woman. 2012 IRAS All one- and two-room owner-occupiers of HDB flats will continue to pay zero property tax in 2012, while those in three room flats will on average pay roughly the same tax as last year. Four- to five-room flats will pay $5 to $29 more for the year. This comes after the Annual Values (AV) of HDB flats are revised upwards with effect from 1 January 2012, reflecting the rise in market values. To mitigate the increase in the property tax payable by lower and middle income households as a result of the AV revision, the Government will give a one-off rebate of $55 to Owner-Occupied HDB flats. This will enable three room flat owners to see little change in property tax payable despite higher flat values. It will also reduce the increase in tax payable for four- and five- room flat owners. AV increase for HDB flats The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) reviews the AVs of all properties including HDB flats annually. The AV is used as a basis to compute the property tax payable. Property tax is calculated at 10% of the AV for non Owner-Occupied homes. For Owner-Occupied homes, property tax payable is calculated at the concessionary tax rates as follows: The AVs of all HDB flats were last revised on 1 January 2010, taking into account the changes in market rents in 2009. They were not revised in 2011 as the increase in HDB market rents in the preceding year was small. Taking 2010 and 2011 together, market rents have risen by around 20 - 28%. Accordingly, the AVs of all HDB flats will be revised from 1 January 2012. One-time Owner-Occupied HDB Flat Rebate for 2012 6 A rebate will be given to all Owner-Occupied HDB Flats to help them offset some of the increase in property tax. The rebate is a fixed amount of $55 or the property tax based on the 2012 AV, whichever is the lower. The rebate will automatically be given to all Owner-Occupied HDB flats. 7 The rebate will not apply to HDB flats that are not owner-occupied, which are currently being taxed at 10%. 8 94% of all HDB flats owners would receive the rebate. Property Tax Changes for Owner-Occupied HDB Homes 9 All one- and two-room owner-occupiers will continue to pay zero property tax in 2012. Owner-occupiers of three-room flats will see no increase on average, while those in four and five room flats and above will see increases in property tax of between $5 and $29 after taking into account the property tax rebate, as shown below: Combined Valuation Notice and Property Tax Bill 10 Most HDB flat owners should receive their property tax notices and bills by the end of this year, enclosed with an explanatory guide on “Property Tax on HDB Flats for 2012” – the guide explains how the property tax payable is calculated and how payment can be made. Property Tax for 2012 is payable by 31 January 2012 11 Property tax has to be paid by 31 January 2012. IRAS encourages property owners to join the GIRO payment scheme to enjoy up to 12 interest-free monthly instalments. Customers of DBS/POSB and OCBC can apply for GIRO via Internet Banking and receive instant approval. 12 Owners can e-file an objection to IRAS if they do not agree with the revised AVs of their properties. Information on payment modes and details of property tax and AV revision are available at www.iras.gov.sg. Taxpayers with enquiries may call 1800-356

Tue, Nov 22, 2011 AsiaOne SINGAPORE - Tan Tock Seng Hospital's (TTSH's) ex-deputy director Peh Chew Seng allegedly requested a bribe from a contractor in exchange for help to win a contract during his tenure.
