  1. [extract] After releasing the Rapid sedan, Skoda is readying the next generation Octavia sedan. The current version has been in the market for eight years and the upcoming MK3 Octavia is said to be larger and positioned more upmarket. The prototype of the new Octavia was spied for the first time during testing at the N
  2. Toyota recently showcased a TRD version of the Toyota 86 at the Paris Motor Show. Toyota added a slew of TRD accessories on it which consists of items such as rear diffusers, larger sports wheels, adjustable suspension system and etc. Looks like owners or future buyers of the Toyota 86 will be spoilt for choices. But what about the owners or future buyers of the Subaru BRZ? Are they going to be stuck with the stock look or wait for aftermarket parts from third party manufacturers? Actually, they do not have to wait long because Subaru has come up with a concept for the BRZ. Known as the Subaru BRZ XT Line Concept, the Japanese automaker has given the already good-looking BRZ a more custom look. Rumour has it that the BRZ XT Line Concept could introduce a line of accessories or parts for the BRZ and also it could be the beginning of a forced-induced version of the car. The designation XT may sound familiar to some and that is because Subaru has used it before to name a certain model. The Subaru XT (known as the Subaru Alcyone in its home market) was a two door sports car that was available during the mid 1980s and up to the early 1990s. And the XT tag was also used on the Subaru Forester (second generation onwards) to denote the turbocharged versions. Details of the concept car was not given out but lets use the images as a guide to see what Subaru has added or changed. Firstly, the most obvious additions to the car are the carbon fibre parts (or just a carbon fibre wrap) of the side mirror, roof panel and rear spoiler. The blacked-out look extends to the eleven-spoke sports wheels. Bright red brake callipers (with a Subaru wording on it) are situated on all four corners of the car and they give the car some contrast in colour. XT Line badges are added to the fender vents, C-pillars, wheel caps and also on the left side of the front bumper. Inside the concept, the seats are wrapped in leather and given the same bright red colour of the brake callipers. An XT logo is stitched on both front seats. Carbon fibre trimmings are added to the top part of the gauge cluster and on the door panels as well. As mentioned above, Subaru did not say much about the BRZ XT Line Concept. Hopefully, more details of it will be released later in the future. While we may crave for a turbocharged BRZ, we probably have to wait a little longer for one. In the meantime, we can only enjoy these images. Photo credit: copyright of Drew Phillips / AOL
  3. [extract] Ferrari has brought its current range for display in Paris, each equipped with either a new generation of the company's 8 or 12-cylinder powertrains. The F12berlinetta - the most powerful V12 ever built by the Maranello based factory, contains 740bhp within a light, compact architecture. Complementing the F12 is the FF, Ferrari
  4. When I saw the picture above, I thought I was looking at the Mk6 Golf GTI. It is even wearing the same "Detroit" rims borrowed from the Mk6 GTI. But on further reading, I realized that I was actually looking at the design study of the 2013 MK7 Golf GTI. Although this is a concept car, it looked very production ready with all the GTI themes such as the tartan cloth upholstery and flat-bottomed steering wheel. Like all Mk7 Golfs, the GTI rides on VW's all-new MQB platform. The most important detail is what lies under the hood of the latest VW hot hatch. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injected unit that pumps out 217bhp and 350Nm of torque, which is the same as the MK6 Golf R. With such tremendous twisting force, the latest iteration of the GTI sprints from 0 to 100km/h is 6.6 sec before reaching a top speed of 246 km/h. Buyers will be able to choose between a standard manual gearbox and the famed DSG dual-clutch transmission. For the first time ever, VW will offer a performance pack for the Golf GTI. However, power is only increased by a mere 10bhp with century sprint reduced by a negligible 0.1 second. The performance pack also comes with a differential lock that reduces understeer as well as bigger front brake discs. The 2013 Golf GTI is differentiated from the standard version by the twin red stripe at the front grille, red brake calipers, smoked LED tail lights and 80 mm chromed tailpipes. If I am an existing Mk6 Golf GTI owner, I will be quite happy that my ride will not look outdated as compared to its successor.
  5. [extract] With several teaser images of its new crossover concept, Suzuki has recently promised that they will showcase the concept at the Paris Motor Show. The concept is known as the S-Cross and from the teaser images, we could see that the S-Cross looks rather fresh and with a modern outlook. But enough of the teaser images because the concept has been unveiled and the S-Cross definitely looks great. Suzuki has infused its new styling language, which the company calls
  6. For non-wrestling readers, "FU" is the finishing maneuver by WWE superstar, John Cena. Like him, Jaguar is ready to deliver a heavy blow to its competitors in the convertible segment. The British car marker has just released the official photos of the F-type - the successor to the E-type roadster manufactured between 1961 and 1974. Under the hood, it will have a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine that pumps out 335bhp and 450Nm of torque. A more powerful version of the same engine is endowed with 375bhp and 460Nm. A range-topping "R" variant will be motivated by the brand's familiar 5.0-litre supercharged V8, rumoured to generate between 503bhp to 542bhp. There is also a possibility that the ford-sourced 240 bhp 2.0-liter turbo unit could later on find its way into the hood. If you prefer not to get your hair messed up and enjoy better protection should the car turn turtle, the good news is that Jaguar will present a coupe version of the two-seater possibly by late 2013 or early 2014. The F-type
  7. [extract] About a month ago, Suzuki showed the world a couple of images of its upcoming S-Cross crossover concept. One of the images was a sketch of the concept and the other, a computer rendered-image. Now, Suzuki has teased us with another image of the vehicle and it is of the rear end of the vehicle. Suzuki did not give us much clues on the concept
  8. McLaren has released the first official images of the new P1 design study, which will subsequently become a production model next year with sales starting within a year after that. The production version will be the successor of the legendary McLaren F1, whose production ended in 1998. "The McLaren P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage," says McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman Ron Dennis. "Twenty years ago we set the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again." The British supercar maker says that the P1
  9. [extract] Nissan has developed a fuel cell vehicle known as the Terra SUV concept that opens a path to zero-emissions future. The compact SUV exterior design expresses athletic eco-appeal with 'Modern Toughness' that the company is very much confident would appeal buyers, no matter for off-road or urban use. The Terra SUV concept is set to be unveiled at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show on Sep 27. The concept combines two of Nissan
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVcM04W4Qfo Lexus has released a short video clip to promote its new concept, the LF-CC, which will be unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show Starting the end of September. The concept shall preview an affordable mid-size coupe and styling direction that the next generation Lexus IS sedan will take. The concept is driven by Lexus Hybrid Drive consisting of an all-new 2.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine and a compact permanent magnet electric motor. This promises to set new standards in fuel economy and produce less than 100 grams of CO2/km travelled. Taking central stage at the front fascia of the LF-CC is an aggressive interpretation of Lexus
  11. Besides the top three automakers in Germany, perhaps another automaker that could potentially have a wide range of premium automobiles from Europe is Alfa Romeo. Yes, they might not have the financial capacity or wide market reach as the others, but the brand cartainly does not lack carisma. Which is probably why the VW Group has showed such an interest in the firm. It is a real pity that parent company Fiat is not/can't spend enough money and resources to establish Alfa as a premium Italian automaker, like the German big three or Lexus, Infiniti. That does not stop avid motorheads from dreaming. Procaccini has envisioned a 'four door coupe' to rival the CLS, 6 Series GC and A7. Dubbed Orazio Satta, it is named after Orazio Satta Puliga (1910-1974), a respected designer and general vice president (1969
  12. Later this month, Peugeot will debut its crossover concept, the Peugeot 2008 Concept, at the Paris Motor Show. While we wait for the official photos from the auto show, Peugeot has teased us with several images of the concept vehicle. The Peugeot 2008 Concept is a progressed development of the Peugeot Urban Crossover Concept which the French automaker displayed at the last Beijing Motor Show. Finished in a shade of yellow, the car measures 4.11 metres long and 1.72 metres wide. This places the 2008 Concept in the small crossover segment. Several of Peugeot
  13. [extract] The BMW 3 series is a remarkable and highly successful car line that dates back to the legendary BMW 2002. While the current F-30 3 series, in its sixth generation, looks largely different to the 2002 or the E21 3 series, a tuning company in Hungary decided to pay homage to the E30, which celebrates its 30th birthday this year. TMCars design have conceived a body kit that could modernize any existing E30 stock car that is stylish enough for the
  14. Suzuki Motor Corporation may not be the biggest Japanese automaker in terms of production volume but its automobile division still manages to do rather well in some parts of the world especially Asia and Europe. But they still lack sales in big and important markets such as the United States. The reason stated above is probably why Suzuki is showcasing a concept car at the upcoming Paris Auto show which will begin on the 27th of September this year. The concept is known as the S-Cross; a compact crossover model. The Suzuki S-Cross crossover concept embodies an "Emotion x Quality x Aerodynamics" design theme, which is typified by distinctive dynamic lines that start on the front bumper, sweep across the doors, and continue to the rear of the body. The concept's design elements suggest stability and solidity also help create a cutting-edge crossover look. Not many details were given about the Suzuki S-Cross except for the above pictures and it is rumoured that the S-Cross will replace the aging Suzuki SX4. Another confirmed report about the concept is that Suzuki has mentioned that the S-Cross concept will eventually make its way into production. It is just a matter of time on how the final design of the car will look like and also, if the S-Cross name will stay.
  15. The current M3 is long overdue. The fifth generation M3 is on its way and will be revealed during the Geneva Motor Show next year and is rumoured to be powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder. Code-named F80, the M3's appearance in Geneva will be a lightly veiled concept where a clear styling and mechanical package of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG rival can be seen. A production ready model with a production interior will debut at next year's Frankfurt motor show, sources close to the matter have revealed. The current version of the M3 sedan went out of production in October 2011. The new M3 will be launched exclusively as a sedan, as a follow-up to the coupe, cabriolet and maybe a Gran Coupe variant to fall under the M4 nomenclature. The M3 sedan will have subtle styling changes that is also functional like a deeper front bumper with large cooling ducts for the forced-induction engine, a lightly tweaked kidney grille, etc. A trunk-lip spoiler can be spotted from the spy shots that complements the deep rear bumper that incorporates a diffuser and traditional quad exhausts. The M3 will retain a steel structure, though certain parts of the body shell, like the hood and doors, to be constructed from aluminum. To match the performance levels from rivals Mercedes and Audi, BMW's powertrain is expected to deliver about 450bhp. Also for the first time the manual gearbox will be replaced by a standard seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, similar to the M5 but with altered ratios. Picture Credit: Autoblog

  17. Sales numbers for the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ has proven that the car is big hit with the consumers and it is not surprising that other automakers are taking notes about it. It is reported that Nissan is developing its own sports coupe to compete with Toyota and Subaru after been given the green light. This is not the first time Nissan has plans to develop a compact sports model. In 2008, Nissan was working on a 200SX/Silvia successor but the world economy at that time doesn't look too good and the idea was shelved. Now, a good question to ask is; how will the car look like? During last year's Shanghai Motor Show, Nissan unveiled a concept known as the Nissan Sport Compact Concept. It was rather small in size and it was dubbed the Nissan March on steroids. It gets a 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine that delivers 190bhp and a torque of 240Nm; most probably the same engine from the Nissan Juke. It is rumoured that the car will built on the Nissan Juke's platform and the project is known as the "Mini-Z" within the company. Since it is going to be built on the Juke's platform, the car could be either in front wheel drive or four wheel drive. If the same engine shown in the concept is chosen, then the car will have around 10 horsepower lesser than the 86/BRZ but with more torque. With Nissan planning to start production of the car in the fourth quarter of next year, expect to see a concept version of it by early next year. Photo credit: Auto Blog
  18. [extract] For Mazda fans who have been keeping up with the automotive news, they would have known that the all new, Takeri-inspired Mazda6 will debut at the Paris Motor Show in September. Leading up to the reveal, Mazda has released a string of videos outlining the profile of the new mid-sized sedan. Now, the Japanese brand
  19. [extract] In March this year, Peugeot showcased a concept version of the 208 GTI at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was heavily inspired by the legendary 205 GTi of the 1980s and early 1990s. After receiving some positive reactions towards it, Peugeot has decided to give the 208 GTi the go-ahead for production. The production version of the car will be shown off at the Paris Motor Show this year in September. Power will come from Peugeot S.A.
  20. Over the years, Audi has created some remarkable machines, like the R8, the A5, A5/A7 Sportback or even its Quattro concept or E-Tron concept vehicles. Having said that, a Russian design student from the Moscow State Technical University has envisioned a flagship sports saloon for his final thesis project. Dubbed the R9, the design study was imagined as Audi's version of the Lamborghini Estoque, with design inspiration from Audi's vast range of cars. The R9 is has a front-mounted engine equipped with Audi's Quattro system. What do you guys think? Though the front end isn't appealing I generally like the shape and profile and it does look a little too Lamborghini isn't it? Credits: Vasiliy Markin via Cardesign
  21. [extract] According to Automotive News website, several insiders have confirmed that the beautifully-sculptured Lexus LF-LC concept will "almost certainly" make it to production due to overwhelming reaction. "There has been a lot of interest from dealers and distributors," a Lexus official said. Back in January 2012, company executives said that the flashy 2+2 sports coupe was not planned for production. The exotic concept was presented at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show back in January and won the
  22. The latest Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is no doubt the spiritual successor to the original 300SL 'Gullwing' Coupe and Roadster. The styling of the current coupe is debatable though the gullwing doors are still cool and is a refreshing change to butterfly doors like on the McLaren or the trademark Lamborghini Scissor Doors. Yet one professional clay artist from France has used his free time to create his own vision of a modern-day 300 SL. Slimane Toubal, is no stranger to automobile design, having worked with several automakers like Audi, Honda and more recently, at PSA Peugeot-Citroen's China office. Toubal commented on his designs, "I expected the design study to replicate the original 300SL though it looks more SLS AMG based." He has designed both a coupe with the classic 'Gullwing' doors and a hardtop roadster. Design Credits: Slimane Toubal
