  7. Source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp.../364552/1/.html Iran expects OPEC to control quotas Posted: 03 August 2008 0116 hrs TEHRAN: Iran, the number two oil producer in OPEC, expects the cartel to discuss ways of controlling the quotas of member countries at its next meeting in September, the official news agency IRNA said. "In case of the continuation of a downward trend in oil price, one of the serious discussions in the next OPEC meeting will be definitely the quotas," IRNA quoted Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari as saying. The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries is scheduled to hold its next regular meeting on September 9 in Vienna. "OPEC, as the responsible body to control the market, should be more meticulous for the control of quotas," the oil minister said. "The (member) countries that have increased their capacity should control it... The issue is that some countries have been supplying more than their quota," he added. Nozari said in July that Iran was against any hike in the cartel's output quota despite continued high crude prices. Iran is the world's fourth-largest crude oil producer and tension over its nuclear programme helped push crude prices to record highs above 147 dollars a barrel on July 11. But prices dropped by around 20 dollars since then. In London, Brent North Sea crude for September delivery soared as high as 127.94 on Friday before settling at 124.18 dollars. - AFP/de

  9. I was coming back from Malaysia yesterday on NSH and was followed closely by a Proton Waja so I gave way for it to pass on the right lane. Then it started raining heavily that I could hardly see what was ahead so had to slow down. Then I saw the same Proton Waja first crash its front at the centre barrier, spins a few rounds and while spinning got the car back bumper smashed too. Then suddenly he seemed to gain control and drove to the shoulder of the highway. By then there was debris of car parts all over. Does anyone knows what is the best way to gain control back in such situation when the car start spinning under wet road condition?

  13. Car population up 9% despite slowdown in car sales Christopher Tan, Senior Correspondent Tue, Jan 15, 2008 The Straits Times IT IS a case of two minuses resulting in a plus. Last year, new car sales shrank by 8.8 per cent to 106,710 units. At the same time, the number of cars taken off the road - either scrapped or exported - shrank by 22.5 per cent to 64,145 units. As a result, Singapore's car population grew by 9 per cent to 514,685 units last year - overtaking 2006's record rise of 7.4 per cent. The unusual expansion was three times the allowable 3 per cent growth cap put in place by the Government. The growth in car numbers is putting a strain on the road infrastructure; and the Land Transport Authority has been raising electronic road-pricing rates and erecting more ERP gantries. Observers expect ERP to be more pervasive in the next few months. The trend will also impact the future supply of COEs. Mr Neo Nam Heng, president of the Automotive Importers and Exporters Association, said there would be '60,000 or fewer' COEs to replace scrapped or exported vehicles this year - down from 86,000 in 2007. This in turn will push COE premiums, and consequently car prices, up. Mr Glenn Tan, chief executive of Subaru agent MotorImage, said '2008 will be a tough year for the motoring industry'.
  14. Radar is also employed for this feature, which helps the driver maintain a safe driving distance from the car ahead. The radar sensor continuously measures the distance to the vehicle in front and automatically adapts the speed of the S80. After cruise control is activated, the driver sets the desired maximum speed, between 30 and 200 kmh, and chooses the minimum time interval, in seconds, from a car in front. Volvo's aim is to let Adaptive Cruise Control handle part of the routine driving so that the driver can focus farther ahead and enjoy a great safety margin.

  23. Friday, August 25, 2006 OYAMA, Japan (AP) - Toyota says it may delay some models as it works to improve quality control. The automaker's president denies that there's been a decision to delay models across the board, saying development of individual vehicles will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The Japanese automaker is tightening its quality control methods in a campaign to reduce a spate of recalls that risk damaging its reputation. The Wall Street Journal reports that Toyota has considered slowing development of some new models by as much as six months because of the quality problems. In addition, Japanese authorities have launched a criminal investigation into three Toyota officials suspected of failing to do anything about a faulty steering part, which may have caused a 2004 head-on accident that injured five people. Friday, Chinese authorities said Toyota will recall 20,000 Crown sedans made in China because of defective rubber strips that seal the windshields.
