  1. Heard from some ALTIS owner they do not know they are buying a made-in-thailand car ...
  2. Been looking at the 2 choices for replacement. Seems 1.8 Civic can be cheaper than the 1.6 Corolla! Any issues that I need to be aware for the Corolla? What are its known problems? I heard the aircon not strong for Altis?
  3. There was a time when car-based panel vans were all over Singapore. I remember Corollas and Datsuns making the bulk of them. Some time in the late 1990s they disappeared altogether. However, they did not actually go out of production. Some models are still available in Japan and Europe, and even Mini has a panel van. Anyone knows what happened? Was it because of certain regulations, or they just somehow went out of favour? A KE70 Corolla panel van, used to be a common sight in Singapore. A MINI panel van, recent generation. Vauxhall Astra panel van, from 2006.
  4. This is probably one of the more important head to head comparisons for this year as two of our mid-size sedan favourites come together for another round of battle. With sedans being Singaporeans' favourite body style, we decide which is the better car to own. With only 3bhp separating both of them, you would expect both to have similar performance. This was not the case as the Altis felt slightly livelier and has a better appetite for revs. However, the Mazda3 has a smoother powerplant and when paired with the responsive six-speed automatic, it still offers decent pace for most. While CVT gearboxes are known to 'slip' when asked to accelerate hard, the Altis's new Super CVT-i gearbox minimises the effect with good results. When it comes to the twisties, the Mazda3 is the clear victor with a nicely judged ride and a direct steering. The Altis fights back with better insulation when it comes to cruising at highway speeds. While not as agile as the Mazda3, the Altis is in a totally different league as compared to its predecessor, which had too cushy a ride. Inside, the Mazda3 scores again with its better fit and finish. Its impressive equipment, like for example, the Active Driving Display, the MZD Connect touchscreen system and its Commander Control knob elevates it into a higher class. However, the Altis still triumphs in terms of overall space. So which one is the better car? Read our full review to find out.
  5. Thats how we lost our soul ..... yahoo news : Global Price Comparison: The Toyota Corolla Global Price Index Singapore - Earlier in March it was reported in The Economist that Singapore is the most expensive city in the world. The news didn't exactly come as a big surprise, with both property prices and car prices rising even further in 2013, the latter as a result of high Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices and increased Additional Registration Fee (tax) on expensive cars. But just how much more costly is it to own a car in Singapore? The Economist has had its own Big Mac Index around for some time now, so we decided to scour the Internet and assemble our own automotive version. The car we used was a natural choice: The world's best-selling nameplate, with more than 40-million units shifted globally, and the closest thing to an automotive white good there is - the Toyota Corolla Altis. With the launch of the new model globally, and it's now the same model sold everywhere else, it's the perfect choice for a study like this. Earlier in the year another Yahoo story did something broadly similar, but our Toyota Corolla Global Price Index (TCGPI) compares the same good across borders with a much wider scope. Toyota Corolla Global Price Index** Country/ Variant /Trim /Local Price SGD Price Australia 1.8L 7CVT ‘Ascent 4D’ A$25,812 - $30,143.51 Brazil 1.8l 4AT ? It's enough to buy you a lovely Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC, or half of an SLS AMG Coupe, in the cheapest market, the USA. read more, link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/global-price-comparison-toyota-corolla-171720950.html
  6. I was looking at the price list for Toyota but can't the Corolla Altis listed any more. Is it going to be replaced by the Auris? Or BM is just waiting for the new 2014 Altis?
  7. Toyota recently launched their 11th generation Corolla Altis and it is a pretty well-resolved car. Since this 1.6-litre sedan category is such a hotly-contested segment, we thought it would be nice to have a second opinion of the Corolla Altis comparing with some of its closest rivals… Kia Forte K3 1.6 First up, our recent Sedan of the Year winner, the Forte K3. Despite being launched last year, the car still looks pretty darn fresh. No surprises given that the Koreans have been producing cars that are almost guaranteed to look good without burning a big hole in your wallet. At press time, it is almost 10 grand lesser than the rest while being the most well equipped. It also felt like it had the most room among the others. However, all is not that well when you start driving. Steering, while being the sharpest and most direct, feels slightly artificial. I wasn't too sure I liked the variable steering weight system also as I found myself changing between ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ every now and then. I couldn't find fault with the ride and grip level were as good as the rest. Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI DSG Personally, I have always found the Jetta to be a handsome car. So it took me by surprise when I thought it didn’t look as sharp as it had always been to me when we parked the cars side by side. Having sampled the Jetta over quite a few miles couple of years ago, it felt good to be back behind the wheel of one. The chassis feels stable, steering reassuring and engine strong. Just like how I remembered. However, unlike then, age has ruthlessly caught up and the interior is starting to feel a little bland as compared to the other two. Not having much equipment on board hurts its scorecard too. Glad to report interior space is more than adequate and overall, the car feels a notch better in quality than the rest. Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 The Corolla Altis. I’m sure most people should have driven or sat in one at least once in their lifetime. I spent most of my teenage years in one and not once did it break down. It was never the fastest nor the best-looking but it was loyal and dependable. Coming to the latest one, I must say Toyota has definitely upped its game and gave it a great looking face. I would even go as far as saying the Toyota is the most handsome one here. Moving inside, the car has grown quite abit and build quality is much improved. Equipment levels are acceptable too. On the move, the Toyota is the quietest and feels lively. Comfort level is definitely on par or better compared with the rest in this segment. Its new Super Continuously Variable Transmission with Intelligence is also worth commending for not being like most whiny CVTs in lesser cars. If you have yet to read our comparison story between the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 and its rivals, click here.
  8. Just wanna get some feedback from any bros who have tried the new Toyota Corolla Altis. All new exterior and interior seems good. Any other feedback?
  9. anyone getting the most popular car in singapore? downpayment $40,000.
  10. back to 7 to 8 years ago, Singapore roads were full of Corolla XLI (before of Altis the model), thinking to change my 10 years picanto to this model, because cannot afford new car's COE, but search on sgcarmart, "zero" result, why??
  11. Something I found off the internet; http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/09/2014-to...d/#aol-comments Looks like their engines will be here to stay for a long time!!! Although the interior will probably look the same as the JDM model; http://toyota.jp/corollaaxio/002_p_002/int...ront/index.html Judging from the Yaris, Auris and Rav4 interior design, this is credible.
  12. Recently, we've been getting some teaser images from the Japanese automaker Toyota for its upcoming 2013 model year Corolla in New Zealand. Well, for those of you asking yourselves how much longer you are supposed to wait to see the whole thing, worry no more as your wait is about to be over. Toyota has released quite a few commercials unveiling the latest generation of its Corolla lineups. However, if you happen to keep a pet cat, you may want to consider putting your cat away from the car. You'll definitely find out the reason as soon as you have watched the accompanying videos. In these videos, there's this Persian pet cat which just can't seem to get enough of the comfort that the all new 2013 Toyota Corolla (NZ) is capable of offering. As a result, it keeps wanting more and more to be inside the car over and over again. Funny thing is, the cat is really willing to do whatever it takes just in order to be taken by its owner to the vet in the car it just seems to love so much. Oh, how cute
  13. Hi, Anyone test-driven the Toyota-Corolla Altis 1.6 launched last weekend? Any comments please... Thanks
  14. Hi guys, I'm 24 years old with 5 years driving experience. What would the insurance quote be for the above mentioned car...? I wish to convert it to a legal rental insurance, how much would the quote be too...?
  15. Toyota, a brand that is highly regarded for its top notch build quality in the past, has issued two massive recalls involving nearly 1 million Corollas and over 300,000 Lexus IS models. These add to a long list of recalls that have plagued the Japanese carmaker in recent years. The Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles affected are built between December 2001 and May 2004. Most of these defective cars are located in the U.S. For the problematic Lexus IS models, they are manufactured from May 2005 to October 2011. According to Toyota, the airbag control modules in these Corollas are susceptible to internal shorting, which can cause the frontal airbags to inadvertently deploy. For the Lexus IS, the wiper arm nuts might not be tightened sufficiently and in the event of heavy snow buildup on the windshield, one or both of the wipers could malfunction - fortunately, it does not snow in Singapore. Toyota has just regained its top spot in the 2012 global sales chart from General Motors. Such bad publicity might jeopardize their chance of retaining that spot in 2013.
  16. Toyota has revealed the Corolla Furia concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. Like the Auris, the Furia concept sports the latest corporate face of the Japanese brand. According to a statement on the Furia concept, Toyota states that it builds on the brand's product development priority to develop more dramatic, expressively designed vehicles. Toyota did not reveal any details on the concept's horsepower, torque and handling capabilities. The concept measures 4,620mm long by 1,805mm wide by 1,425mm tall. If this is an indication of the production version, the next corolla would have grown 80mm longer, 45mm wider yet sits 40mm lower - adopting a sportier stance. The tail light, which appears to borrow styling cue from the Kia Optima, and the integrated exhaust pipes gives the rear a sporty look. The US Corolla and the ASEAN version that we are getting have similar bodywork. If you feel that styling of the current 10th generation Corolla Altis is too conservative for your liking, the 11th generation might change that thought.
  17. NZ$35K onward.... only in New Zealand and Australia...I saw them on the road in Christchurch..quite nice IMHO... http://www.corolla.co.nz/ Thought is the new Yaris... There is a Toyota show room near my hotel..maybe if time allow..drop to take a see see look look
  18. Hi bros ... if you know someone driving a black toyota corolla with a number like the above, please tell him *all* his rear brake lights are out. I was behind him going from Paya Lebar to CBD ... so took PIE->KPE->ECP. At first when he brake, I had to react suddenly, so I thought it was my fault, until I realized none of his brake lights were lighting up at all ... so I remained further behind and quite a few cars nearly langar into him (lucky KPE not much traffic, including one range rover who had to slam on the brakes) im just wondering if he didnt realize it .. or was it done purposely? i mean ... from PIE, to KPE i was behind him and watching, not once got brake lights even when he stop ... but the time go ECP i told myself better to stay in front of him ... somemore it was raining and the roads were wet >< if you know of someone with that kind of plate, you can PM me for the full plate no to verify.
  19. In recent years, the downsizing of engines by premium brands has led to luxury cars competing for a slice of the Cat A COE, which is of 1600CC capacity and below. For instance, a 1.6-litre Volvo S80 is something unthinkable 10 years ago but it is available today. Before that, Cat A COE used to be dominated by work horses such as the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. With the tightening of COE supply, prices are sure to head north. As premium brands would normally command higher profit margin, it is expected of them to out-bid a Korean or Japanese brand in securing a COE. But is there a fairer way to allocate the limited resources? Perhaps, COE could be categorized by the car's Open Market Value (OMV) instead of capacity. OMV is assessed by the Singapore Customs, based on the price actually paid or payable for the goods when sold for export to the country of importation. This price includes purchase price, freight, insurance and all other charges incidental to the sale and delivery of the car to Singapore. To ensure that a middle income Singaporean is not out-priced in the COE hunt, Cat A COE could be classified as cars of OMV below S$20,000. Cars with OMV of between S$20,001 to S$35,000 could be classified under Cat B. In this scenario, a Corolla buyer would not be going after the same piece of COE as a wealthy Volvo S60 T4 buyer. Rather, this would put the 1.6-litre S60 and the 2.0-litre Camry in the same category, which I believe should make more sense. Cat E COE could be classified as cars with OMV of S$35,001 and above. Car sales dominated by luxury brands are unheard of in other countries. It is time to put things back to normal.
  20. If you can't sleep at night, perhaps picturing of an image of the current Corolla Altis in your mind might help. This is how "interesting" the styling of the car is. However, this is set to change hopefully. Bill Fay, general manager for Toyota and Scion brands in the U.S., tells Ward's Auto that the Corolla will undergo an even more dramatic makeover than the recently launched Toyota Avalon. It appears that the Japanese giant has finally awoken. Toyota's Corolla has been compared to a washing machine, that is simple, reliable, but not something that stirs any sort of emotion. Rival cars such as the Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3 could have forced the Toyota designers to perhaps even throw away their old drawing board. From far, the current 10th generation Corolla Altis does not look much different from its previous generation especially from the rear view. The eleventh generation of the JDM version of the Corolla, the Axio, went on sale in Japan in May 2012. I believe it would not be long before we see what Toyota has up its sleeve for the international markets. Apart from a radically new design, the Corolla would need a radically new drivetrain for it to keep up with the competition. First and foremost, the 4-speed automatic gearbox has to be expelled from the engine compartment.
  21. Just sharing my joys... :)
  22. Hi guy, this isn't an orthodox post so I do apologise. A short while back, I was rushing to SGH's A&E for my uncle. In the CTE tunnel near Havelock Road, this black Corolla SGA6104 tried to force his way into my lane when i was passing him, so horned him then went past. Subsequently he raced ahead and tried to play punk multiple times . Unfortunately due to my uncles condition all I could do was to get to the hospital ASAP. If any of you know who this is or where he stays please let me know. I want to go break the f**kers legs.
