  1. an article on toyota corolla (sucessful but boring). sorry for the lengthy article. It's anonymous, unambitious and totally lacking in personality. But in its 40-year lifespan more than 32 million Toyota Corollas have left the production line - making it the biggest-selling car of all time. Now, the company that put Japanese motors on the map is to consign its most famous model to the scrapheap. Sean O'Grady celebrates the Corolla's charmless appeal, and owners from around the world describe their lives behind its wheel No son ever begged his dad to buy a Toyota Corolla. No one ever put a poster of the Corolla on their bedroom wall. For petrolheads the world over, the Corolla has always been the ultimate anti-car car, if not the anti-Christ. Judged against the more interesting machinery available at the time it was launched, in 1966, it was dull indeed. By comparison with the Mini, say, or the Citro
  2. Leaked Japanese brochure pictures of the upcoming Toyota Corolla: "Although its rumored that the 2007 - 2008 Model Year Toyota Corolla will be officially revealed in Japan in mid October (some even say that we might see a concept version at the Paris International Motor Show this month), we've been seeing quite a lot of scanned pics lately. This time Nihoncarandbike site has posted a whole set of scanned pics from a Japanese car magazine called Driver. By the looks of it, these pictures are from a leaked brochure kit that fell in the hands of the magazine's reporters. Judging from the scanned images, the 10th Generation of the Corolla seems to be inspired from the latest Yaris and Avensis models (Toyota's European mid-sized sedan)"
  3. Hello all, The featured car is exactly one year old. The following problems have been reported by the owner: - rattling noise in the air con blower area which Borneo Motors still have no clue about its root cause - peeled-off leather upholstery on the door panel - loose fittings in certain panels in the interior of the car Besides these, a patch of rust was discovered in the inner door seam, just beneath the rubber weather guard recently. Naturally it is a very shocking discovery for the owner, since Toyota claims that its vehicles come with a 100% galvanised body and panels. This seems to contradict the claims by BM and its SEs that Thai assembled Toyotas are comparable to Japan assembled Toyotas in terms of quality.
  4. Hi, I guess this is the final pic for the JDM Corolla. Specs are unknown at the moment but should get the new 1.8L Dual VVTI unit. Looks kind of conservative, hope that the export version will be more exciting.

  7. It will be a quite dissapoint news for Corolla fans, in the comming one and half year Honda civic will continue to dominant the mid-range car market http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/11/toyota-...lla-until-2008/
  8. At the Paris Motor Show this fall, Toyota will release the replacement for the current world's best selling Corolla. This 10th generation of the Japanese top seller is then to hit the showrooms in the beginning of 2007. Disguised prototypes of the new fastback model have already been sighted in various places around the world. The most recent photos are showing another prototype of the five-door fastback during a stop at a filling station in Germany. The next generation Corolla will be an evolution of the present model, and it is sitting on Toyota

  12. Anyone knows whether is this a Asian market only version of the Corolla Altis? Why Singapore got the "other" corolla (I presume is Jap manufactured). Toyota Corolla Altis SPECIFICATIONS GRADE 1.8G TRANSMISSION 4-speed Automatic Gate-type with Super ECT ENGINE Type Inline 4-cylinder DOHC VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing - intelligent), timing chain Displacement cc 1,794 Ignition system Direct ignition (Distributorless) Max. output EEC Net 100kW (136PS) / 6,000rpm Max. torque EEC Net 171Nm (17.4kg-m) / 4,200rpm PERFORMANCE 0 - 100Km/h 11.20 seconds WEIGHT Kerb weight kg 1,125 CHASSIS Suspension Front MacPherson strut type with stabiliser Rear ETA-beam type (with toe-control torsion beam) with stabiliser Brakes Front / Rear Ventilated Disc / Disc Tyres Size 195/60 R15
  13. Extracted off VOGS: TOYOTA LAUNCHES HOTTER COROLLA Supercharged VVTL engine boosts torque, driveability Toyota has launched a hotter Corolla, one that it describes as "faster, more powerful and has better handling and more street presence than ever before". We'll take the street presence claim with a pinch of salt (as with all such claims), but the company has beefed up the car by adding a supercharger to its high-revving VVTL-i engine, the same zingy mill that sits in the Lotus Elise. While in the Lotus, the motor has under 1,000Kg to shove, but the Toyota Corolla 1.8 VVTL-i Sport is a chunkier kettle of fish at 1,255Kg. So keeping the Corolla moving quickly means remaining in the 6,000-8,000rpm powerband. Not always ideal and eventually tiring. It also makes for lethargic performance when the engine's working outside that powerband. The new Corolla Compressor uses the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine as the Sport but the supercharger boosts output from 189bhp to 215bhp. That helps knock 1.5 seconds off the car抯 0-62mph acceleration time, down to 6.9 seconds, and adds 3mph to the top speed, now 143mph. With extra torque at lower engine speeds a maximum 159lb-ft at 4,000rpm the Compressor is more flexible. Toyota claimed fifth gear acceleration from 50 to 75mph in 8.5 seconds, while 37 to 62mph in fourth took only 6.1 seconds. To accompany the power hike, the Compressor is fettled with 15mm lowered sports suspension and uprated springs. It also gets 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45 tyres plus a roof spoiler, rear air dam and sports exhaust with twin tailpipes. Toyota has also added adjustments to meet Euro IV emissions standards. Only 250 right-hand drive Corolla Compressor models are being made available in the UK. The model goes on sale on 1 November 2006, priced on-the-road at 9,995.

  18. Makan at J.Kayu prata this evening and was strolling back to c/p. As there were a group of stray cats in path, chase the cats away as may hurt kiddos... Guess wat, next to the pedestrian path, parked this corolla with 2 aunties who were actually going to feed these cats, got pissed off by us for chasing their "cats". One still got cheek to called me " excuse me, shame on u, chase the cats away.." As I kw these are some nothing better to do ppl, juz smiled at her...think she buey tahan as i never reacted to her..while i was putting my kiddos into the car, she purposely drove behind me, blocking my way from reversing out.. Of course, I bochap, engaged reversed gear...think her guts drop to the floor at last minute..reversed away and waiting one corner. As i drove off...she tailgated.. I bochap again and she had no choice, went away....
  19. Something to fight the CIvics & GTIs... hehe http://www.japanesecarfans.com/news.cfm/newsid/2051025.004
  20. not talking about aircon compressor here Available only in strictly limited numbers, the Corolla Compressor uses the same 1,794 cc VVTL-i four-cylinder engine as the T Sport, but with a supercharger added to boost output from 189 to 215 bhp and technical adjustments to meet Euro IV emissions standards. That helps knock one-and-a-half seconds off the car
  21. Any one got any feedback on the Iridium plugs from Denso for the Toyota Corolla? Does it help in the consumption area or the power? How much does a set of 4 cost? Are you required to change then as often as the normal plugs? Cheers
