  1. Hi All, As most cars here need to have their car brake fluid replace every 2-3 yrs (fluid absorbs moisture and lose braking efficiency) and properly bleed the system (avoid air pockets), let us all contribute some places to go and estimated costs. Brake system is important and safety aspect even more so due to high humidity here in Singapore. Some drivers even change brake fluid every year. Well done guys! With more info, so hoping more drivers will inclined to maintain their brake system whichever part of the island you're at. Cars with ABS system need to be bleed by vacuum method and those without ABS may simply use the leg pump method. Let's contribute : 1) Stamf Tyres = bleed by vacuum method, uses Caltex DOT4 , est $40 (Feb 2011) 2) Yap Bro = by vacuum method, uses Indemitsu DOT 4, est $45-$50 (Feb 2011). 3) 4)
  2. We cannot make a flight on Air Asia next week for family reasons. Anyone know how to reclaim the cost of the flight?? My missus tried for a couple of hours yesterday but got nowhere.
  3. Hi all, I am cross shopping between these 2 products. Sensha is about $840 (8 years warranty) and Ceramic Pro Gold package is $1660 (7 years warranty) What are your thought? Specifically, is there any difference in the coating technology? Should I go for the cheaper version? Thank you.
  4. Hi Guys, I've only owned Asian cars so far and recently feel like getting a conti car. May I know how much more does it cost to maintain a conti car say around the level of Golf GTI, C250 & X3? I'm ok with the purchase price but my friends are warning me that the real costs comes if after buying. Maintenance, parts replacements, repairs and the downtime at workshops; the frequency as well as waiting time for parts. So far I've owned a Corolla, Cefiro, Waja, Cerato, Stream and Wish. Cars never spent more than 1 night at workshops.
  5. anyone driving a ford focus here? would appreciate if you can share about the maintenance/servicing cost of ford focus by regent motors, eg, oil change, spark plug charge, timing belt, wheel bearings etc. the more detailed the better. and also major parts cost, eg, brake rotor/pad, transmission, suspension, ECU. thanks in advance. thinking to get a ford focus wagon.
  6. A detail breakdown of the cost/taxes of a new car including the dealer's profit margin The table is pretty much self-explanatory. This explains the high cost of new car despite the fall in COE prices! https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_information_guidelines/buy_a_new_vehicle/car_cost.html Car_Cost_Update.pdf
  7. 04:45 AM Mar 31, 2012 SINGAPORE - Electricity will cost more from tomorrow, as higher fuel prices have resulted in higher power generation costs, said electricity, water and gas supplier SP Services in a statement yesterday. Tariffs for households will increase by 4.3 per cent for the quarter from April 1 to June 30, which will mean an increase of 1.19 cents per kWh to 28.78 cents per kWh. This will increase the average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room HDB flats by S$4.18, said SP Services. Households living in three-room HDB flats will see a S$3.08 increase in their average monthly electricity bill, while families in five-room HDB flats will see a S$4.83 increase. The average fuel oil price over the last three months - between Jan 1 to March 15 - increased by 7.3 per cent from S$127.07 to S$136.37 per barrel. "This increase in fuel oil prices saw a corresponding increase in the price of natural gas which is used for power generation in Singapore," said SP Services. The Singapore Power subsidiary said it reviews the electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), the industry regulator. The latest tariffs given have been approved by the EMA. Electricity costs previously rose by 2.3 per cent for the previous quarter of Jan 1 to March 31. source: http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC12...e-from-tomorrow im wondering what kind of guideline did EMA set.... fuel price drop, our electricity increase as they said we buy at future price... then fuel price drop further, they said we generate electricity using gas not fuel. But when fuel increase, they said increase price cause operating cost increase?? I think nothing is more profitable than generating power in Singapore... any excuses could be use to increase fuel price every quater....

  10. What are the considerations when buying old FH condos like Primo Residence in Kovan. I like the quiet environment and the close to parks and close to MRT. It may be nice to buy for own stay. When I look at the exterior, there are rain black stains in some units already. I heard that doing an exterior paint would cost extra money from residence rather simply using the sinking fund. Then there is repairs inside own unit due to wear and tear, mold, etc. What are the major issues which may require residence to fork out additional $? What are other considerations? Thank you!

The table is pretty much self-explanatory. It shows the amount of profits every authorized dealer make for each car they sell. Highly subjective but it's a good interesting gauge.
  13. My accounts dept just came back with the figures for the company financial year for submission to IRAS. And because most of my car running expenditure I charge to company accounts ... this is wat came back. The amount is staggering to say the least .... and its been rising since 2000 for me personally. Wats yours ?? Lets share ..... some costs are flexible like ERP Gantry charges 1999 Mazda 323 TarzanBoy ERP Gantries : S$6 per day x 5 days x 4 weeks x 12 months = S$1440.00 per year Car Road Tax : S$1400 per year Car Insurance : S$800 per year Instalments : S$8000 per year HDB Car Park charges : S$65 per month x 12 months = S$780 Fuel (JB petrol converted to SGP$$) : RM$60 per week x 4 weeks x 12 months = RM$2880.00 = S$1200.00 @ 31,000 km per year average Miscellaneous Carpark charges : S$300 per year Workshop / Repair / Maintenance charges : S$2000 per year (estimate) Thus as you can see ... added in total ... ownership costs falls easily within the S$15,920.00 Disclaimer : Insurance is at 50% NCD with staff discount. Petrol from JB is equivalent to 55% off ... if I pump in SGP , it would be S$2880.00 or more Put in your costs and see how much your car cost you on an annual basis.
  14. https://sg.yahoo.com/finance/news/can-i-afford-a-car-in-singapore-092843202.html Obtained from Yahoo! Works out to be 2.45k a month for a normal bnb car like mazda3. I find it inaccurate. on a high side. I think it's more at 1.8k Do u agree?
  15. Many doctors and medical professionals here. Any thoughts? This seems to be a hot topic recently. Recently, I went through a procedure and was darn pissed with how much I had to fork out from my own pocket and according to my doctor, my company's appointed TPA is to be blamed. True?
  16. I just wanna do some research for renovation. would appreciate if ppl who have experience share with me some issues on costing. basically i have been told that marble flooring is very expensive. exactly how expensive is it? i have been told it can be as cheap as under $10k for the whole house. i wonder if its true. i also have been told that it could cost up to $30k just for that. as it depends on the grading of the marble. so basically how expensive is it? like marble vs. homogeneous vs. normal ceramic vs. lets say granite. (is there other choices ?) appreciate alot!
  17. Got a friend that is contemplating buying a car but is a bit put off by the high cost of owning a car nowadays. After he read about carpooling and that he could probably defray his cost by at least a few hundreds he is abit more assured now. With a baby coming his way, he wasn't too sure if he could afford the additional expense but the availability of carpooling makes it more viable for him now. Just thinking that maybe we should do more carpooling not just to save the environment but also for the cost savings that it entails. Anybody here has got any good experience to share so far?
  18. I bought my car 10 years ago and sold it in April and now I want to buy the Hyundai Elite or similar. But I've got a bit confused about guaranteed COE just reading the Hyundai Elantra thread. Can someone explain simply the cost of a car Is it: the cost of the car - X, plus the Actual COE - Y, plus a a fixed cost for the guaranteed COE - Z so the total cost of the car is X+Y+Z I can confirm the X The Y is dependent on bidding The Z should be fixed I then bargain with the SE about any extras??? But what is this tier 1, tier 2 etc etc
  19. Hi guys, how much does it cost to repair the above? Car model, 2009 Hyundai Avante.. would 1.5k suffice? Or too much? If worse comes to worse, change door how much? Light dent but deep scratch in the paint work, so i guess need to respray the whole door?
  20. The following is an illustration based on high level estimates: In 2014, new car registrations total 28,932. http://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltaweb/corp/PublicationsResearch/files/FactsandFigures/MVP02-2_New_Cars_by_make.pdf Proportion of luxurious car (my definition mercs, volvo, etc) vs bb cars (my definition toyota, subaru, honda etc) is 50:50. Just an estimate for illustration purpose. Basic new car price 100K Maximum 200K Average 150K Coe of an average car 70k Import taxes etc 40k Total coe and taxes 110k Estimated coe and taxes collected in 2014: 28,932 cars x $110,000 = $3,182,520,000 That's $3.2 billion and the amount excludes commercial vehicles and taxis.
  21. Cost of Youth Games goes up three-fold An extra $265 million needed to meet the cost will be borne by MCYS and Ministry of Finance SINGAPORE - The cost of organising the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games has risen three-fold. With 38 days left to the opening ceremony at The Float@Marina Bay on Aug 14, it will now cost $387 million to stage the Games, up from its original estimate of $122 million during the Games' bid phase, before Singapore was named host by the International Olympic Committee in February 2008 after a keen tussle with Moscow. Despite the increase, both the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (Syogoc) said there was no cause for alarm. The extra $265 million required to meet the cost of organising the Games will be borne by the MCYS and Ministry of Finance. Syogoc has also raised more than $50 million in sponsorship, but MediaCorp understands the bulk of it is in kind. Speaking at a news conference yesterday, MCYS Permanent Secretary Niam Chiang Meng said: "The original bid was an estimate. There was no precedent or template ... When we made the bid, the figures were based on specifications not fully spelt out by the International Olympic Committee or by the international federations. "It was only very recently that the sporting events had their formats spelt out ... which is why many of these things can only be finalised so late." Technology accounted for the biggest spike - $97 million (see box). Added Mr Niam: "The estimate is not fixed, although it is likely to be lower than higher." The Youth Olympic Games, which run from Aug 14 to 26, will feature 201 events across 26 sports, with some 3,600 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competing. About 20,000 volunteers will help run the Games, and about 370,000 spectators are expected to watch the two-week event. Apart from having top sporting facilities, there are other spin-offs. On the economic front, $260 million worth of tenders and contracts were awarded to local companies for the Games, and some $46 million to international companies with local subsidiaries, while conservative estimates from the Singapore Tourism Board expect tourism receipts to hit $57 million. In terms of international media value, the Games is expected to be worth $86 million - $11 million from print and online, and $75 million from broadcast, where some 1.5 billion viewers worldwide are expected to watch the Games. Already, nearly 2,000 international media networks are keen to broadcast the multi-sports events. Socially, an Olympic education programme will be introduced to 430 schools, while some 260 community-led events involving 135,000 people will be held. Said Mr Niam: "We're making history as the first hosts, but at the same time, we're also the first to have to iron out the kinks in the system
  22. As we are aware, this was raised recently with much promotion... Did you have one and how did it affect you, either Blue or Orange. Please provide feedback. Thank you

  24. How much can a wife expect to receive when her marriage breaks down? Typically, a divorced tai-tai will claim monthly maintenance between $15,000 to $30,000 from their high net-worth husbands, according to a Straits Times report. Middle-class divorcees generally do not claim more than $10,000. A maintenance order may be made before, during and after divorce proceedings, where the Court may either order the husband to give a monthly allowance, or a lump sum payment as maintenance. The court will typically consider the following circumstances when making the Order: - The family's financial needs - The wife's earning capacity and other financial resources - The wife's physical or mental disability, and - The standard of living enjoyed by the family before the husband neglected or refused to provide maintenance (Above information sourced from You & The Law 3) What expenses can an ex-spouse's monthly maintenance be used to cover? These can include: - Maintenance of property, - Groceries, - Domestic help, - Personal grooming - Shopping, - Holidays - Meals For tai-tais, their big-ticket items could be - First class air tickets costing $20,000 and more - Holidays that can include trips to Europe, - Stays in luxury hotels - Regular shopping sprees at high-end boutiques that can come up to $5,000 or more each month - Rental and loan payments on their homes - Beauty treatments such as manicures and pedicures - Visits to hair salons, all of which can cost up to $3,000 - Fine dining at restaurants every month which may set them back about $3,000 - Monthly maintenance covers the ex-wife's personal spending and is separate from maintenance of the couple's children from the marriage. It also does not cover insurance and maintenance parents. The following information has been sourced from You & The Law 3: Division of Matrimonial Assets The Court can order a division of assets or a sale of assets and divide the proceeds which it thinks is just and equitable upon a divorce Matrimonial assets should be acquired during the marrige, and is used or enjoyed by both parties or one or more children. It can also refer to assets acquired before the marriage but substantially improved by one or both spouses. Among other things, the Court can also transfer the assets from one spouse to the other, postpone the transfer or sale of the asset until the youngest child reaches independence, grant one spouse the right to live in a matrimonial home to the exclusion of the other, and order one party to pay the other. Applying for an injunction If a spouse disposes of properties with the intention of reducing his or her means to pay maintenance, or to deprive the other party of his/her right to the properties, the aggrieved party may apply for a Court injunction to prevent the disposal from taking place or to set aside the disposal within three years that the disposal was made. The application for an injunction can be made when any matrimonial proceedings are pending, an order is made for the matrimonial assets to be divided, a maintenance order for the wife or child has been granted, and when maintenance is payable.
