    BMW M2 Coupe

The new 2 series is the coupe version of the 1 series coming out soon in Europe and Japan. BMW is apparently switching their naming conventions around, and have even numbered series models being the coupe versions (2 series, the new 4 series coming out soon, and the 6 series), while the odd number models have 4 doors. Finally some rhyme to their reason ;) So anyway, Automobile Magazine reports that BMW is targeting the "upper portion of the lower midrange market segment" (or something to that effect) of vehicles. I'm not sure what it means, but the 2 series is reported to start around $23k for the baseline 4 cylinder, move up to $26k for an inline 6 (or turbocharged 4), and then top out around $32k for the new M2. The M2 model is rumored to have a 300 horsepower inline-6 cylinder engine, which fits in nicely with the new 400 hp engine for the new M5 and the 500 hp engine for the M6 — all coming out late next year.

  7. Scion stages world premiere of all-new tC sports coupe at 2004 North American International Auto Show Scion has issued the following press release: Scion, the new car marque from Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., unveiled the all-new tC sports coupe at a press conference yesterday at the 2004 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. In June, the all-new 2005 tC will join the entry-level xA and the urban utility xB, coinciding with Scion's national rollout," said Jim Farley, Scion vice president. "The tC was developed specifically for Scion and the U.S. market with an aim to deliver a level of style, performance and value that will be flat-out impossible to beat." The design target for the tC was to offer a sporty coupe with sophisticated styling and surprising versatility. The sleek tC sits low and wide. Configured as a three-door hatch with a panorama glass moonroof, the tC has the formal look of a coupe with a trunk. Body panel gaps have been narrowed, as have the pillars, for improved visibility. Further adding to the tC's sleek appearance, the windshield wipers are set low so the driver has an unobstructed view. Outside mirrors have built-in turn signal lights, and the hatch incorporates a power release. Standard keyless entry and remote hatch operation can all be managed from a newly designed gray and black key, unique to Scion. The tC's sophisticated styling exudes a Scion family identity. Traces of Scion DNA can be found in the interior with use of amber illumination, metal-tone trim and innovative instrumentation panel grains. A material that was inspired by the texture of Japanese paper was developed for the tC dash. Exterior Scion cues include taut, clean lines from front to rear, accentuated rocker panels and wheel arches, and a sporty mesh grille. Like its Scion siblings, the tC will be equipped with many subtle hints of refinement, such as the use of dampers on interior moving parts, normally found in more upscale vehicles. The temperature control dial is made of genuine cast aluminum. The front-passenger airbag is seamlessly integrated into the dash, and narrowed gaps on interior components measure near those of the all-new Camry Solara coupe. The tC will offer incredible utility in a very spacious cabin. The driver's seat will have both a height and thigh adjustment, along with a walk-in function with memory. Rear 60/40-split seats will be equipped with three headrests and three-point seat belts in all seating positions. The rear seats will recline 45 degrees and can be adjusted into 10 different positions. Finally, when both the front passenger and rear seats are folded flat, tC will provide more than 8.5 feet of length for cargo. Performance will match the tC's sleek styling. The tC will be a tenacious road handler as it will be equipped with a double-wishbone rear suspension, front MacPherson struts, 17-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes with an Anti-lock Brakes system. Power will be delivered through an all-aluminum 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that will produce 160 horsepower. The engine will be mated with a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. For added performance, a dealer-installed supercharger package developed by Toyota Racing Development will be offered later in the year. The turn-key performance option with an output of approximately 200 horsepower can be purchased with the vehicle, or added later. And like all things Scion, it will be surprisingly affordable. Like the xA and xB, the Scion tC will be offered in mono-spec trim. Standard features will include the panorama moonroof, 17-inch alloy wheels with graphite appearance finish, air conditioning, cruise control, a high-output Pioneer sound system, power windows, door locks and mirrors, and a center console with armrest. Sound absorption materials help maintain low NVH levels that are more common in a class-above car. "When Scion goes on sale nationally in late June, Scion showrooms are expected in approximately 60 percent of all Toyota dealers," said Farley. "The launch of the 2005 tC sport coupe will complete the third leg of Scion's original three-vehicle strategic launch plan. But, it will not be the last."

  9. Holden Special Vehicles took centre stage at the Sydney International Motor Show today with the unveiling of a classy all wheel drive coupe that showcases Australian performance engineering prowess. The 'all paw' HSV Coupe 4 is evolved from Australia's favourite sports car, the Holden Monaro, which made its own high-profile debut at the Sydney Motor Show two years ago. The first all wheel drive (AWD) sports coupe to be produced in this country, the Coupe 4 is the dynamic result of a creative collaboration between HSV and Holden powertrain, chassis engineering and design specialists. No futuristic concept, the HSV Coupe 4 goes on sale in June 2004. It will be priced under $95,000. Holden Special Vehicles Managing Director, John Crennan, said technologically advanced vehicles such as the HSV Coupe 4 and the Avalanche AWD wagon, also unveiled in Sydney, signposted the new directions being taken by his company and Holden as they accepted the challenge of automotive change. "For the astute driving enthusiast, the HSV Coupe 4 is a sports performance dream come true. It's the first of the Lion clan to show the sensational results that can be achieved when you apply advanced, home grown, all wheel drive technology to a low ride height, high performance vehicle. Believe me, it's an exhilarating driving experience," he said. "The Coupe 4 gives us entry into a new performance vehicle category. We are confident that it will appeal to people who have traditionally chosen European marques and be responsible for bringing many first-time buyers to the HSV brand. "Our current plans are to produce just 100 examples next year, which makes this a rather exclusive machine. Mind you, we will be happy to build more if that's required." Mr Crennon said. The Coupe 4 is equipped with an HSV-enhanced, 27OkW 5.7 litre LS1 V8, matched to a four-speed automatic transmission. Power is transferred to the tarmac through all four wheels via a traction control-based HSV Quad Drive permanent all wheel drive system, which is calibrated to provide exceptional grip in wide range of surface conditions. "While the Coupe 4 packs plenty of punch with 27OkW, it is proof that performance is not rnerely to do with outright kilowatts - it's about getting the available power to the ground. During testing, the Coupe registered a nought to 100 acceleration time of 6.6 seconds - on gravel. Given this degree of traction, the Coupe 4 is able to handle most driving situations in a controlled and confidence-inspiring manner." Mr Crennan said. The HSV Coupe 4 is equipped with a HSV Performance braking system comprising 336x32mm ventilated and grooved front discs and 315x18mm ventilated and grooved rear discs. Its 19x8 inch alloy wheels are shod with Pirelli P-Zero directional tyres, and HSV's unique AWD 'low ride' sports series suspension set-up delivers a flat, supple ride quality that complements its prodigious inherent handling abilities. A torque split of 38 per cent front and 62 per cent rear gives the Coupe 4 a sporty rear-drive bias. With plenty of basic evidence as to ifs sports capability - a wider than average stance, flared arches over 19-inch wheels, large air intake and a quartet of big bore exhaust outlets - the Coupe 4 design treatment is more Euro-chic than aggressive. Incorporated info the well-balanced styling package are a unique grille, Senotor- style front facia with mesh inserts, black bezel headlamps and High Intensity Discharge driving lamps, smoothly integrated wheel arch extensions, 19-inch alloys* with HSV-embossed red front disc calipers, sculpted side skirts and technical mesh rear inserts. Exterior finishes - Phantom Black, Sting Red and Quicksilver - can be colour-co-ordinated with a choice of plush fabric or leather-trimmed interiors in Anthracite and Ochre. The comprehensive HSV Coupe 4 standard equipment listing includes LED interior effect lighting, rear park assist, eight-way electrically adjustable front sports seats with active head restraints, the driver's seat with three memory settings, driver, passenger and side impact airbags, leather-bound sports profile steering wheel, specific instrument cluster, premium 200watt sound system with 6 disc CD changer and subwoofers, dual zone climate control air conditioning, satin chrome accents and alloy pedals. Buyers may also opt for such extra features as satellite navigation, a tyre pressure monitoring system, tailored sunroof and the 24-hour Holden Assist service. Connectivity and Flexibility While Holden's new all-wheel drive system has been applied to high-ride crossover wagon and four door utility models, the Coupe 4 represents ifs first application to a vehicle of normal ride height. It is further evidence of the unmatched levels of efficiency and flexibility being achieved by Holden's vehicle manufacturing operation in Elizabeth, South Australia. To accommodate its all wheel drive powertrain componentry, increased track and larger wheels, the HSV Coupe 4 requires extensive sheet metal and chassis system modifications. These modifications will be carried out on a new, dedicated production line at Elizabeth before the vehicles are transferred to the Holden Special Vehicles facility in Clayton, Victoria, to be hand-finished- HSV Coupe 4 production is scheduled to begin in May 2004. *Show car has GTS wheels. 12. I felt like the bloody punk!! I was driving along M.Sultan slowly becasue there was a Cab infront of me (knowing cabs i didn't know when the cab was going to hit the brakes for some passengers) so i kept a safe distance when this bloody punk around his 20s started tailgating me so i tabbed my brake to let the bugger know that "you're going to kiss my ass" when the road cleared the punk came up beside me and rammed his engine!!! I was boiling by then!!!! I chased up to him halfway and stopped at a traffic light and i thought to myself this punk ain't worth it. So i decided to ... When the next traffic light came i was still behind him and i shifted to nutural and rammed my engine a bit to let the punk know that i was still with him. When the lights turn green he sped off and i smelt his unburnt petrol and i made a U turn. It felt good to let him go and let the punk waste his petrol. I know who the better man was.

The same applies to the powerful diesel engine, whose 195 kW/265 hp provides excellent conditions for a dynamic driving experience. It accelerates the Vision CLS from zero to 100 km/h in only 6.4 seconds, the maximum speed being electronically limited to 250 km/h. Despite this impressive performance the six-cylinder engine is happy with 7.5 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (NEDC overall consumption) and meets the stringent EU-4 exhaust emission limits. As in the case of other studies and show cars with which Mercedes-Benz has repeatedly presented new and interesting vehicle concepts for open discussion - and which have usually entered series production - the project planners are once again using the Frankfurt Motor Show to gauge the opinions of visitors to the show, and will reach their decision for this unique vehicle concept according to the public response. With four doors and a generously dimensioned interior the Vision CLS offers a significant improvement in comfort and functionality compared to other coup
  16. http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_lancia_fulvia_coupe-1.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_lancia_fulvia_coupe-2.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_lancia_fulvia_coupe-3.jpg Lancia is one of the very few motor manufacturers than can boast customers who are demanding aficionados of the brand and lovers of beauty yet also great connoisseurs of the most sophisticated technology. A leitmotif links all Lancia cars: a continuous quest for innovation linked to the most exclusive Italian craftsmanship. This driving force is essential not only to the spirit of Lancia but also to the progress of the motorcar per se. The hundreds of patents filed, the brilliant inventions and the practical creations developed by Lancia throughout nearly one century of history bear witness to this. The year was 1965. At the Geneva Motor Show, Lancia introduced the Fulvia Coupe 1.2, a powerful, well-balanced car that was absolutely unique for the mechanical solutions adopted. The model's great strength lay in its engine configuration of 4 cylinders in a narrow V. The front subframe housed the power unit while the front suspension was double wishbone. The braking system featured four discs with a dual hydraulic circuit and brake servo. The Fulvia Coupe was a fine example of the elegant sportiness that has always typified certain models produced by Lancia. It took just a few touches to convert a road vehicle into a racing car. Even now, the public applies the HF tag indiscriminately to the Fulvia Coupe model without distinguishing road cars from cars destined for racing activities. Think back to the legendary Fulvia Coupe Rallye 1.6 HF that won the Montecarlo Rally in 1972 with Sandro Munari aboard and also raced off with the world Brand Championship. The following year, the Lancia model pulled out of official racing and in 1976 the Lancia Fulvia Coupe ceased production after 140,000 had been built. A new Fulvia Coupe And now, forty years on from the debut of the first Fulvia saloon and thirty-one years after Munari's victory, Lancia has decided to build a prototype to celebrate one of the models that made the brandname famous throughout the world. Apart from anything else, the Lancia Style Centre designers have always had one perennial dream: to recreate the Fulvia Coupe as though it had been left free to evolve without interruption. The approach to the project was very clear from the outset: no nostalgic self-indulgence but a post-modern reworking of the original concept and styling cues. Priority was to be given to a fresh, dynamic shape without losing sight of the intrinsic spirit that made the Fulvia, designed by Castagnero in 1965, an ultra-sophisticated mix of eccentricity, elegance, clean aesthetic lines and sportiness. An absolutely up-to-date coupe, in other words. A car that offered an opportunity to explore aesthetic and engineering solutions that could be used on future Lancia products but also carried great evocative weight for people who lusted after and dreamed of the car in its heyday. The dimensions and three-box shape of the Fulvia Coupe show car are practically identical to those of its predecessor but the track has been broadened to give the car greater stability and strength. The general layout is reminiscent of Riva motorboats of the period, i.e. a truncated tail, an extremely dynamic shape and a furrowing prow. The most distinctive stylist motif, i.e. a continuous horseshoe-shaped band that enfolded the entire body only to emerge at the tail, was reworked to give the car a more dynamic appearance and a tapering shape. The point of greatest tension lies over the front wheel where all the visual weight of the car is also concentrated to underscore the front drive and engine. The end result is that the entire car appears to be pulled along from this point. The drop-shape of the car from above with maximum width at the front and a tendency to taper off toward the truncated tail also contributes to this effect. The shape is complemented by a long bonnet, a small glazed area and a specific weight distribution pattern. The 1965 Fulvia Coupe featured a characteristic lightness of volume that was even more evident at the rear. The new show car, however, is more muscular in appearance but lightened by fact that the lower part of the vehicle recedes toward the tail. The aggressive-looking front features a broad, rounded bonnet, headlights made out of high-tech modules and a wing-shaped 'brow' that extends the bonnet profile visually below the lights. The burnished metal grille that bears the big Lancia shield looks sporty and three-dimensional. It has been deliberately deconstructed and simplified compared to its less aggressive sisters to emphasise the function of the air intake and create a relationship between solid metal and air at the front that reflects the pattern of the previous model. Everything is completed by lines that flow from the bonnet to the bumpers and gather around the lower outlet where four floating quadrangular cylinders hark back to the four air intakes of the Seventies model. The clean sides hinge on a succession of concave and convex surfaces and a sturdy shoulder. The tail, the logical conclusion to the entire shape, marks a return to the cross section of the original model: it would hardly be complete without a deliberate reference to the aft surface that was such a distinctive feature of the previous model and underscored the fleeting tail while providing an unfussy frame for the tall headlights. These features, run though by two cylinders that encircle the body like exhaust pipes, depend for their effect on a transparent covering that reveals how the lamps overhang from the wing-shaped profile (a subtle hint of the expressive 'eyes' so typical of the previous car). The three-coated Ivory body colour offers a harmonious contrast with the dark brown 'Testa di moro' leather that enfolds the passenger compartment. The interior has a decidedly Seventies feel with parts (manufactured using numerically controlled lathes) that are reminiscent of the iridescent controls on hi-fi systems of the period. The Tanganika Frise wood that covers the central facia insert and tunnel bridge is silky in appearance with a metallic sheen. Interior The interior features two bucket seats and an additional luggage compartment under the parcel rack. Its appearance is inspired by the original, though with a spare post-modern treatment. All the sophistication and sporty touches you would expect from a Lancia of this type are naturally in evidence. Examples include a set of bags produced specially for the show car by Trussardi using top-class original panels that represent an ideal combination between mood and practicality. The facia, made out of two opposing, hand-upholstered shells that embrace the leather insert, appears to be surrounded by a shell that stretches smoothly to the rear of the door panel to underscore a drop-shaped floor plan of nautical inspiration. The tunnel is actually an extension of the dark brown leather trim on the floor that flows fluidly up to form arms that mirror the armrests on the doors. The saddle-shaped theme reflects the formal language of the entire interior. If you sliced through the volume of the tunnel and the side armrests you would see a longitudinal wooden bridge in the centre that houses a gearlever (enhanced by aluminium parts) with looped door pulls on the doors. The overall look is rounded off by a three-dial analogue instrument cluster of nautical design that is pearlised in colour (similar to that of the new Ypsilon). A metal interface plate contains all the infotainment functions and the climate control system as on other Lancia range vehicles. A steering wheel with three metal spokes contains a cylindrical airbag module and a leather-upholstered rim. The sporty, ergonomic seats are reminiscent of those on the Fulvia Coupe because the wraparound horseshoe embraces the backrest to offer broad lateral support. Body / Chassis Yet the Fulvia Coupe styling operation was never a mere exercise in design. All the car's exterior parts have been developed to keep down drag. The fruits of this effort are evident in the good top speed of 213 km/h, obtained from a power output that is somewhat restrained for this type of vehicle: 140 kW (103 bhp) at 6400 rpm. Engine lightness is assured by the use of aluminium to create the body. As on all the most up to date sports cars - though some HF versions of the Seventies Fulvia Coupe also featured aluminium bonnet and doors - all exterior body panels are in aluminium. This feat of engineering has been pulled off by calling in the very best hand panel beaters. In this case, the model manufacturer, CECOMP, has done a masterly job. This attention to lightness also allowed the weight to be kept below 1000 kg. The Fulvia Coupe weighs exactly 990 kg, an absolutely outstanding value for this vehicle type. It also guarantees an excellent weight/power ratio (7 kg/bhp) and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. All this naturally means reduced fuel consumption: over a combined cycle, for example, fuel consumption never exceeds 7.3 l/100 km. The Lancia prototype is also equipped with a 4 cylinder 1.8 16v engine with variable valve timing and a McPherson front suspension layout with telescopic struts, coaxial coil springs and lower wishbones. Although the geometry is relatively simple, it ensures a dynamic first rate performance aided by Pirelli PZero Nero tyres. The technical picture is completed by rear suspension with longitudinal arms, antiroll bar, braking system with four disc brakes (the front ones are ventilated) and an ABS. No other electronic gadgets have been added, such as antislip or stability control devices, because we did not wish to detract from the purity of the car's wonderful old-style sporty drive. The Fulvia Coupe is fully entitled to a place in the wish list of people who know how to appreciate a car of great personality and charm even if it is a pilot model. Even today, Lancia aficionados are known for the extraordinary passion and enthusiasm that they share with those who design, test and produce Lancia cars. Story by Lancia
