  1. A video of an accident between an AETOS car and a taxi has become viral. The video was uploaded on Singapore Road Accident's Facebook page less than 13 hours ago and has since garnered 267 shares! If you haven't seen the video, here you go! In the video, the AETOS driver makes a right turn when the right-turn arrow is in the red. The oncoming taxi was unable to brake in time and crashed head-on into the side of the AETOS car. How do we know this? The video is so blurred! It's a simple skill of deduction, my dear Watson. Spot it? Just in case, here's how it should look to make a proper right turn. Now compare it with the screenshot above. Potong Jalan siol A few second after the crash, the AETOS driver starts shouting (to no one in particular): "Potong Jalan siol." I always thought that this phrase meant "steal" or "walked away". Like "I potong jalan-ed his girlfriend." Ooooh. Thanks, Smart Local! I digress. There was no way the taxi “potong-ed” the AETOS driver because the taxi had the right of way. If you don’t speak Malay, you might have missed this I went through the video with my Malay-speaking colleagues, and they picked up something interesting. At 0.33 – 0.35 ish of the video, the driver says "Kau suroh jalan eh?" - "you said move eh?". This was probably directed to the passenger who told him to go ahead and make the turn at the start of the video. This AETOS driver damn fast to push blame sia. What the people say Another guy caught it too! And, yes, I hope everyone is fine as well. It was quite a hard crash. Agreed. There’s always a practical commenter. Is it?
  2. Another Toyota Vios has gotten into an accident similar to the white 2nd generation example that went viral few weeks back on 23 March. Thanks to an unknown vehicle's in-car camera, we can see that this black first generation Vios lost it as it crossed the metal expansion strip that joins different sections of the Anak Bukit Flyover on the PIE. As seen on SG Road Vigilante's facebook page, the car seemed like it was speeding in the drizzle when the mishap happened. Check out the lorry driver's good reaction and evasive skills in avoiding the Vios! The Vios came to a stop on lane 1 with a Prius curiously avoiding it causally. For those who were wondering was that a Police bike on lane 3, it wasn't. Watch the full video and let us know what you think in the comment box below! 1.mp4
  3. MANILA: A medical evacuation plane exploded in a ball of flames during takeoff on Sunday (Mar 29) in the Philippine capital, killing all eight passengers and crew on board, officials said. The plane was bound from Manila to Haneda, Japan, and burst into flames at the end of the runway, Manila's main airport, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, said. Fire crews were dispatched to douse the plane with foam, the airport added. The Lionair plane was carrying three medical personnel, three flight crew, a patient and a companion, Richard Gordon, a senator and head of the Philippine Red Cross, said on Twitter. "The plane caught fire and exploded as it was taking off the NAIA runway," he said. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/lion-air-plane-crash-philippines-manila-airport-naia-12587828?cid=FBcna and for awhile the only bad thing we knew was covid-19... Now it's both.. RIP
  4. The aircraft came down in the Deh Yak district of Ghazni, to the south west of Kabul, a provincial spokesman told local media. The plane crashed and caught fire due to technical reasons, the spokesman said. The plane was initially reported to have belonged to Ariana Airlines but they have now denied this. No details about casualties have been given. This is a developing story.
  5. Testament to how advanced safety systems in modern cars are and you really do get what you pay for. For a 300km/h crash, the car held up pretty well. Hope everyone recovers: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=679088 This 2012 M5 was traveling at a top speed (approximately 186mph/300kmh) when the driver lost control of the car as he braked and swerved to avoid a car. As the driver of the M5 swerved to avoid a car which joined the highway aggressively (without noticing the oncoming BMW), the M5 struck the divider, bounced off and shot across the highway, where it flipped several times on the grass at the side of the A81. The 60 year old driver, 20 year old passenger, and a dog were all seriously injured, but are alive. Judging by the severity of the damage to the car, it's a testament to the M5's safety technology that no one was instantly killed. The car which cut off the M5 did not stop and fled the scene of the accident. The M6 and M3 on the scene belong to the M5 owner's sons, who were traveling with the M5 at the time of the accident. One of the sons, seeing smoke coming from the M5's engine after the crash, was able to prevent any more danger by using an extinguisher on the engine. It's easy to forget sometimes just how much power our BMWs have and while they are some of the safest cars in the world, we are all still human, capable of suffering injuries and making driving mistakes (or simply suffering bad luck). So please be safe out there!
  6. Wonder why choosing the right car is so important? The 'I LOVE SUBARU' Facebook Group page recently uploaded pictures of a totaled Subaru Forester. With the windscreen and front frame completely totaled, you would imagine that those in the car could not have left without serious injuries. But thankfully, no grisly photos of the driver follow beyond just a slightly bruised leg. Aren't modern cars a real thing of wonder? The best part of the story is in the caption: The owner of the vehicle, Mr. Jacky Yew is now fit to proceed with his wedding planned for the end of the month! Mr Yew was driving a forth generation Subaru Forester near Yong Peng, Malaysia in the extreme right lane, with two trucks which were in the adjacent lane to his left. When a tyre on the first truck burst and flew off, the second truck was forced to take evasive action. In doing so, the second truck served abruptly into Mr Yew's lane. Mr Yew could not brake in time and collided into the back of the second truck. But after suffering only minor injuries on his right leg, he has apparently walked off from the accident and into a Subaru showroom to get himself... Another Forester! Mr Yew is collecting his fifth generation Forester just one week after the accident. He says, "I may not have made it to my wedding on 30 November if I was not driving a Subaru Forester. I am glad I drive a Subaru and I am grateful it has saved my life. That is why I immediately placed an order for the new Forester, just two days after my accident." The post states that "Subaru takes tremendous pride in safety engineering. We can't predict the future, but we can be better prepared for every possible outcome." We wish Mr Yew all the best for his marriage! (Even if it already looks like he has plenty of lady luck on his side)
  7. Spotted on the facebook page 'private hire sg cars/partners - grab, gojek, ryde, tada etc', someone posted a photo of a fender bender between a BMW and a Toyota and we were shocked by how much you can claim if you were involved in such a accident. This should not cost too much to repair right? Oh wait till you see the final amount submitted by the surveyor. Yup, you saw it right. The cost of repairs on the BMW E60 5 Series would amount to a staggering $88,000. To put that into perspective, you can buy yourself a similar BMW coupled with a new 10-year COE and lots of change left for petrol and parking. Others on the post agreed too that this is one really over inflated amount. That said, there were some who thought that the is not the actual amount that was asked for... Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on who's point of view, that is the discharge voucher which you could say is going to be the actual amount paid out. Of course quite a few felt that this is wrong... Let us know what you readers think of this in the comments below! UPDATE: There are some rumors that the discharge form was meant for a Lamborghini Gallardo and not the two cars as pictured above. ----------------------------------------------- Want to know if there are any more BMW 5 Series you could buy with $88,000, check out our used car pages! -----------------------------------------------

  11. A widow who lost $280,000 after handing the money to an acquaintance to make a Chinese property investment has lost her legal bid to get it back. Madam Lim Choo Eng's husband died in 2012 when a Ferrari crashed into his taxi and she used some of the money she got after his death to invest in a plot of land in China, giving it to Madam Koh Siew Eng - including a $50,000 deposit within four days of meeting her. When she realised she had been tricked, she tried to sue Madam Koh for a refund - but Madam Koh contended that she was just a "mouthpiece" facilitating the transaction and had transferred the money to a third party in China who granted Madam Lim a sub-lease for the plot. In a judgment on Friday (Aug 23), a High Court judge dismissed Madam Lim's case, even though he found she was honest and he believed her testimony more than Madam Koh's. Justice Choo Han Teck said Madam Lim's claim of misrepresentation must fail as she had not pleaded that there was a contract, oral or written, between her and Madam Koh. "Although it seems to me that Lim appeared to have acted in reliance on Koh's representation, and might even have come to an agreement with her, none of that was pleaded and the court cannot write their contract for them," said the judge. Justice Choo will hear arguments on costs at a later date, but said he did not think Madam Lim should have to bear any legal costs for the case. Madam Lim's husband, Mr Cheng Teck Hock, died aged 52 after a speeding Ferrari crashed into his taxi at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street. The Ferrari's driver, Chinese national Ma Chi, also died in the accident. Mr Ma's insurers offered advance payouts for third-party claims while public donations poured in for Mr Cheng's family. In 2014, Madam Lim decided to invest some money through Madam Koh. The two women became acquainted through their respective sons, who were friends. Madam Lim said Madam Koh claimed to be a successful investor and offered her a joint investment opportunity to buy land in China which was to be redeveloped and sold for a profit. Between March and August 2014, Madam Lim transferred more than $280,000 to Madam Koh and Madam Koh's sister. In August 2014, Madam Lim and Madam Koh flew to China to meet Mr Lu Jinlin, who was supposed to lease the land from a village committee. He did not show Madam Lim the land because of "bad weather" but she was assured by Mr Lu and Madam Koh that she would get a stake. In March 2015, Mr Lu came to Singapore and signed a document granting Madam Lim a 70-year sub-lease for part of the land. Madam Lim did not get any more information about the deal and said it was only in 2017 that she realised Madam Koh did not invest in the land. Madam Koh said Madam Lim was always aware that she was only an agent; she denied having made claims about a joint investment. She said the money was transferred to Mr Lu and his family between April 2014 and October 2016. Madam Lim's lawyer, Mr Renganathan Shankar, argued that Madam Koh had orchestrated the entire scheme as she was aware of Madam Lim's finances due to the publicity surrounding her husband's death. He argued that Madam Lim was entitled to rescind the contract or to damages. But Justice Choo said Madam Koh was not a party to the sub-lease, a contract between Madam Lim and Mr Lu. The judge added that the sub-lease was "highly suspect". Unfortunately, the authenticity of the document was not challenged, nor did Madam Lim check with the land owners as to whether her sub-lease was recognised.
  12. Is he going to pay with joss paper? https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/taiwan-delivery-man-crash-4-ferraris-11042828 SINGAPORE: A Taiwanese delivery man who crashed his van into four Ferraris could face a six-figure repair bill, local media reported. The 20-year-old, surnamed Lin, was delivering joss paper early on Sunday morning (Dec 16) in New Taipei's Shiding District when the accident happened, said Taiwan's Mirror Media. The young man's family runs a joss paper business. The man was helping his mother with deliveries as she had taken ill that morning, TVBS reported. Lin was driving at about 40kmh and was tired from delivering goods overnight, the police said. No one was injured. The police also said that media coverage of the accident have garnered support from dozens of people, who have offered Lin financial help. The four sports cars were among a fleet parked by the side of the road during a Ferrari car owners' meet-up. According to Taiwanese media, the Nissan van crashed into a yellow Ferrari 488, a white Ferrari F12, a blue Ferrari and a red one. The accident left the yellow Ferrari with a gash on its left and its side mirror knocked off - damage that TVBS said could cost more than TW$3.5 million (US$100,000) to repair. The F12 suffered a large dent to its rear. The TV station estimated repairs for the F12 could cost up to TW$5 million (US$160,000). The other two vehicles were not badly damaged. The owner of the red Ferrari has said he will not seek damages, a report said. Read more at https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/taiwan-delivery-man-crash-4-ferraris-11042828

  14. The race was stopped on the first lap of last weekend's Portugal leg of the World Touring Car Cup as a huge crash involving multiple cars happened. Rob Huff, who was in pole position, came into his Volkswagen teammate Mehdi Bennani after running side by side through the first couple of corners. Upon reaching the third turn, Bennani knocked into the left rear side of Huff's Golf GTI and before you know it, everything one started crashing into each other. Thankfully no one was hurt but both Golf GTI had to be written off as reported by Autosport. Huff was very thankful that rivals Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller came over to attend to him immediately after the crash. "I'd like to say a huge thanks to Gabriele Tarquini," added Huff. "I was very winded after the crash and couldn't get out of my car, and with the engine oil spilling it was on fire, he quickly came over and helped me get out of the car and stayed with me in the few minutes before the medical teams arrived. "Also thanks to Yvan Muller, who came to help out; it just shows that even though we're all rivals on the track, there's a great camaraderie between us all." After the track was cleared, the race resumed and Yvan Muller finished first in his Hyundai i30 N. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MQZryIghvo
  15. Some Friday night food for thought... arguing with CO about my driving style is never ending. She feels that I drive too fast, too recklessly, whereas I feel confident in my ability and in control of the car. How to argue without seeming complacent? Is it complacent or arrogant to say I feel confident in my driving? Then the argument is that driving at lower speed will cause less damage if an accident happens, got more time to react..the usual..which is not wrong. So then why does anyone drive fast? What is "fast"? Why do carmakers make cars with different performance? Given that most countries have speed limits which are way below what a modern car is capable of, why bother to make a vehicle that can go above speed limits? If I were a bmw or merc exec, having studied the singapore car market, I would just make my cars with as small an engine as possible and limit the top speed to 90km/h. Singaporean badge whores (no offence meant here) would lap up my cars and I would be making huge margins by making consumers pay a premium for nothing more than the badge. Until truly autonomous cars become reality this would be the best way to go, no? Sorry for rambling...just wanna see what opinions there are out there. cheers
  16. At least 257 people were killed on Wednesday when a military plane crashed near the Algerian capital, Algiers, state media reported. The aircraft crashed near the Boufarik air base, between Algiers and the city of Blida. Ten of those killed were the plane crew, according to state-run Radio Algérie. It was not immediately clear whether there were any survivors. It is the deadliest plane crash since 2014, when 298 people were killed after a Malaysian airlines jet was shot down over Ukraine. Algerian TV station Ennahar showed images of smoke rising from the plane's fuselage, tilted to one side, with part of the aircraft sticking out above olive trees. Dozens of bodies were seen in numbered bags as paramedics and firefighters worked at the crash site. Cranes at the site have begun trying to move some of the debris. One man told Ennahar he was at home when he heard an explosion, and drove with a neighbor to the site, where they tried to put out the fire and reach victims. "We saw bodies ... it was a catastrophe," he said. "We were afraid the plane would explode. We covered some bodies and put out some fires." Algeria has a shaky aviation safety record. In 2014, a Hercules C-130 carrying members of the country's air force and their families crashed in Algeria's east, killing 77 people. That same year, an Air Algérie flight crashed in Mali while flying between Bukina Faso and Algeria, killing all 116 people on board. https://edition.cnn.com/2018/04/11/africa/algeria-plane-crash-intl/index.html
  17. Another sad news of a traffic accident. 2 Singaporeans killed in motorcycle crash in Thailand on New Year's Eve. A horrific motorcycle crash in Thailand's southern Phatthalung province on New Year's Eve (Dec 31) has claimed the lives of a Singaporean couple. Mr Ng Yong Sing, 27, was riding a motorcycle with Ms Vanalyn Png, 22, as his passenger when they were thrown into a three-metre deep drain at around 1.20pm. Both victims were employees at the Select Group food and beverage chain. Mr Ng was a business development executive who had recently received a scholarship from the company, while Miss Png started as a marketer less than six months ago. http://www.asiaone.com/singapore/2-singaporeans-killed-motorcycle-crash-thailand-new-years-eve?xtor=EREC-16-4[Emarsys_Newsletter]-20180102&extid=6934d0cfb7b252f1ae9f0dbddf5ff88ca8637e77 http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/2-sporeans-killed-in-motorbike-crash-in-thailand Wishing all to BE SAFE on the roads.

  19. Not sure where to put this developing tragedy... has been going on since morning... but it's mostly confirmed now. 76 dead, 5 survive. Plane was also carrying the Chapesoense football team to Colombia for the Copa Sudamericana final against Colombian side Atlético Nacional. This was a fairy tale season for them as they'd been promoted to the top flight in 2014 only. Read somewhere else that they were supposed to travel in their own chartered plane but was refused permission by Brazil authorities. So they had to switch to this tragic flight. https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2016/nov/29/brazilian-team-chapecoense-onboard-plane-that-crashed-over-colombia-latest Daily Mail has more pictures http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3980974/Plane-carrying-72-passengers-including-Brazilian-football-team-crashes-Colombia-reports-say.html
  20. wow, i thot this only happens in usa. tat thief needs to be punished heavily. =================== Sep 16, 2010 Car chase ends in crash By Mavis Toh A high speed police chase after a lorry thief ended yesterday afternoon when the lorry collided into other vehicles on the AYE towards Tuas, near the Alexandra Road exit. -- PHOTO: ST READER A DRAMATIC high speed police chase after a lorry thief on Thursday afternoon ended with a five vehicle collision on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE). The suspect, a 37-year-old man, was believed to have stolen a lorry belonging to a pipe maintenance company located at Ubi Road 3. What he did not know, was that the vehicle was installed with a Global Positioning System (GPS) that allowed its whereabouts to be tracked. Mr Shaik Nazeemuddin, general manager of the company which owns the vehicle, told The Straits Times that the lorry was being driven by the firm's technician before it was reported missing. The technician had parked the vehicle outside his flat at Ubi Avenue 1 sometime after 10am when he went for a toilet break. Though he locked the lorry, the man left the key on a table beside his door. When the technician came out, he found both the key and lorry missing. When alerted that the lorry had been stolen, he jumped into his Madza 3 with two other employees and drove to Changi Road North where the lorry's position had been tracked on the GPS system. It was then that the police entered the chase as officers from the Bedok Police Division spotted the lorry travelling along Upper Changi Road North, towards the direction of Changi Prison. They trailed the lorry onto the Pan Island Expressway and East Coast Parkway before getting onto the AYE. But the getaway ended just after the Alexander Road exit, where the lorry collided with several other vehicles. A spokesman from the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that the suspect was found trapped in the driver's seat and had to be rescued using a hydraulic spreader. He was then arrested and taken to Changi General Hospital. There were no other casualties in the incident but the highway drama resulted in a massive jam which slowed traffic down for hours.

  22. An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EMW performing flight EK-521 from Thiruvananthapuram (India) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with 275 people on board, was on final approach to Dubai's runway 12L at 12:41L (08:41Z) but attempted to go around from low height. The aircraft however did not climb, but after retracting the gear touched down on the runway and burst into flames. All occupants evacuated safely, no injuries are being reported. The aircraft burned down completely. The airline reported: "Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on 3rd August 2016 at about 12.45pm local time." United Arab Emirates Government confirmed an Emirates aircraft arriving from India suffered a crash landing at Dubai Airport, all passengers have been evacuated, there are no reports of injuries.
