  1. Here is a sneak peek at Hyundai's latest and smallest crossover model, the Venue. The car is set to debut at the New York Auto Show soon. Seen on Carscoops, the new Hyundai was thought to a special model marketed for Asean markets but is now believed to be available for Europe and U.S. markets too. Looking similar to the Santa Fe, the car spots a 'Turbo' logo at the back suggesting that it might be using the 1.0 turbo three from the Kona. It is expected to be paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The new Venue is supposed to be position under the Kona as brand’s smallest crossover and will likely be available in front-wheel drive guise only.
  2. Photos of 2020 Ford Bronco Leak from Dealer Meeting https://www.off-road.com/blog/2018/11/13/photos-of-2020-ford-bronco-leak-from-dealer-meeting/ This is it, folks. We’ve found pictures of the 2020 Ford Bronco. Found on a publicly accessible part of a Ford website hosting pictures of the 2018 dealer meeting in Las Vegas, these pictures give us a dandy look at the new Bronco. A pair of superbly retro round LED headlights paying homage to the original Bronco bookend a bold grille featuring the word FORD in block letters, which appear to be illuminated. This mirrors some of the teaser images officially released by Ford, so we’re confident this is the real deal. The side profile shows a lantern-jawed machine with square lines. A vent of some sort, likely decorative, is ahead of the front door. There is also a neat character line that kicks up into the rear side glass just aft of the rear door. Its white roof is a take on a styling flourish that’s rapidly permeating all corners of the crossover industry. And, yes, the new Bronco is most definitely a four-door crossover, not an enormous SUV as we remember it. However, it’s styling as shown here is appropriately chunky, as if the designers were given a T-square as their sole tool. We’re OK with that. The Bronco shown on the far right has a satisfyingly chunky set of tires, indicating that while this rig may not be a direct competitor to the Wrangler, it will likely be able to take on terrain similar to that conquered by machines like the Cherokee Trailhawk. Which raises a good question – what would Ford call an off-road focused Bronco? FX4? Adrenalin, maybe? Your guess is as good as ours. The reason we think this image here is the Bronco and not some sort of ‘baby Bronco’ (which has also been alluded to in potential product plans) is thanks to the other images being shown to the audience in these photos. Marketing-speak like “authentic off-road capability” and “an SUV that means business” could refer to anything but the image of the word ‘Bronco’ by itself leads us to believe we are looking at that machine. Also, recall that Ford did tease something earlier this year that could be a smaller crossover with a similar style to the one shown here. However, its headlights are just ever so slightly more upswept than this rig’s, whose round peepers have decidedly square frames. Now we know what the Bronco will look like, our next job is to speculate on powertrain options. Four-cylinder? EcoBoost V6? What type of four-wheel drive system will it have? Stay tuned for that speculation.
  3. Fellow ICE enthusiasts, I have a question hopefully some can help or suggest. Recently I installed underseat sub Pioneer ts-wx130da which comes with remote and on the fly adjustment of LPF (between 50 to 125 Hz). Slope wise it is unknown even from the manual. My question is because HU also allow for sub crossover adjustment, how can I set it the right way without interference with each other. HU: JVC KW V230BT
  4. Randomly came across this article on the possibility of a BMW Convertible SUV, did some googling, thought itll be interesting to share. . https://www.motor1.com/news/243237/bmw-finds-convertible-suvs-interesting/ How entertaining is the idea of this? Taking a muscular and rugged SUV/Crossover body and mashing it up with a soft-top of a convertible car? SUVs have been massive in recent years, gaining more and more traction. Moving forward will we be seeing more automakers chopping off the roofs of their SUVs?? How weird is it, really? Pretty damn weird to me when you have 3 rows of seats, and with 7 to 8 people inside. Here's taking a walk down memory lane. Toyota Rav4 Convertible "The strange ugly car that everyone wants: The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet", as described on one automotive site. The Evoque. Arguable a lot less weird looking than the Murano. And then the upcoming, concepts and custom models. Upcoming Volkswagen T-Roc Cabrio, to begin production in 2020. Concept SUV Convertible Audi Q2 Cabrio illustration Lexus LX570.. this is a custom SUV Convertible in Dubai selling for USD350,000. JUST WEIRD... And then finally, someone had to do an illustration of the convertible version of the BMW X6... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnXMXBkuixA I wud think if someone buys an SUV it wud be for the boot space, the ruggedness of it, the ability to traverse all terrains, weather.... The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet has the boot space that's even lesser than a VW Beetle. And if you buy a convertible it's because you want people to be able to stare at you better, because you don't have a motorcycle license but you want to feel the wind, and you want to experience how it feels to drive under the rain..... Hahaha........................ And if you get a Convertible SUV, you get best of both worlds, not? Convertible SUVs aren't anything new but they're still weird and awkward. Maybe a BMW convertible can make me change my mind. but I low ses. So no money to buy anyway......................... My thread is titled BMW but content only 10% BMW because I want to win tix to BMW WORLD la. Haha.
  5. The new Mitsubishi Expander “next-generation crossover MPV” seven-seat people mover has been revealed in Indonesia, ahead of its official announcement at the Jakarta motor show (GIIA) on August 10, 2017. The Expander measures 4475mm long, 1750mm wide, 1700mm tall, with 205mm of ground clearance. The new people mover can seat seven people across three rows of seats. Engine is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (4A-91 with MIVEC). Front wheels drive via either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Available features include LED driving lights and tail-lights, air conditioning, electric windows, faux wood and leather trim, and a touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth phone connectivity. The new Expander will be produced in Indonesia. Sales likely be restricted to developing markets in Asia.
  6. The latest crossover from Mazda.
  7. With latest statistics in Europe showing that sales of SUV is beginning to overtake hatchback, it is do not come as a surprise that many auto manufacturer are making their new model to ride higher, label them as Crossover, and there after markup the selling price, taking full advantage of the latest trend in the motoring world. Actually the "pioneer" in mini SUV is not any conti car maker, but Japanese. How many here still remember there was once a a 659cc 20V turbo charged sample, with max. horsepower of 64ps, max torque of 97Nm, and a top speed rated at 130Km/h (in stock condition)? Yes, I am referring to Mitsubishi Pajero Mini. A fun car, but not necessary a fuel efficient one as one might have expected from a Kei car.
  8. So after nine years and a bit, my Little Red Riding Hood, aka Honda Civic FD, is coming to the end of its life. Well the end of it's COE anyway, which means I can either cough up the money to renew this little piece of paper or explore new cars. Given that I can get back almost 10k for this baby, it's really been giving me sterling service, and I should try to get another car. So here comes the hunt: I have set myself a budget of around 130k but if I can spend less, that will be even better. i.e, with my car thrown in, my outlay should not extend 120k. First decision was to forgo renewing the COE. Second one was whether I should go for a 2nd hand one. Given the high prices I see for 2nd hand examples, a first hand car seems to be the way to go. What are the things I really need, and what are the niceties then? Needs: Reliability is paramount. No 'characterful' cars, a euphemism for unreliable. So most likely a Jap car, that is actually made in Japan, maybe a Korean one, or perhaps a Merc if they are made in Germany and not somewhere else. Not too low slung - I need easy enter and egress for my mum. Versatile seats: Folding rear seats, the ability to carry large objects will be very good. Fuel economy: Given the high oil prices, this will be a good thing. Enough power to merge with traffic. I don't need a speedster, but I don't really want to worry about having a heart attack every time I need to join traffic and there's a rather steep slope outside my home and I need to merge with fast moving traffic there. I also go on the North South Highway every now and then, so something that doesn't struggle on it will be nice. Niceties: Original leather seats Red color Quick turning radius Low turn to turn ratio SUV - high sitting position and hey, I haven't owned one before, but it was fun to drive Front and back cameras BT capability So what have I identified: Right at the top of my list right now is the Honda HRV, the authorised dealer (AD) version of the Vezel that has been taking the local market by storm. What are the plus points: - Jap made - very creative interior - SUV style - low FC - smart interior with decent soft touch materials abounding - many charging points, USB and other touches Negatives: - not as solid feel as a conti car - 130hp might not be enough compared to my older FD - CVT transmission So moving on, I have also tried a whole bunch of other cars. The main issue is that none, yes, none of the cars have everything I want. Each has their own pros and cons.. Mazda 3 & 6: Plus: - nice Conti feel - good handling - conventional 6 speed auto - soft touch materials abound - Jap made negatives: Heavy 3 combined with a 1.5l engine in the 3 doesn't help can't help comfy in the 6 somehow servicing can be an issue given that the new dealers aren't really setup for so many new customers US long snout styling ? reliability a little low slung rear legroom Corolla Altis Plus - Proven track record - Borneo servicing - Good FC - Improved looks compared to the older one - decent legroom - solid bidding process Negatives still looks bleah.. plastics aren't in the same league as the Mazda or Golf not too many nice features inside Hyundai Elantra - sleek looks - plenty of soft touch materials - decent legroom - lower price Negatives - bidding tiers means you aren't so sure if you will get your car Conti offers: Golf Pluses: Solid build, lots of soft touch materials in the cabin Good acceleration Negatives Tight legroom at the back Suspect gearbox Audi A3 Sportback An expensive version of the Golf, with similar pros and cons A3: The sedan is made in Hungary, and the Merc CLA is also made in the same country, and will cost 30-40k more than a Golf. It's hard to see how one can opt for this, even though most conti cars, especially the bigger brands are known for safety, and a solid metalwork. But servicing is not as easy, since these companies are much smaller than Borneo Motor or Kah, and the cost of repairs, spares and even basic servicing might be more. IMHO The A3 is a value for money car. The A4 is significantly more costly. Almost got this car. The build quality is very solid, the engine is quite powerful, rear legroom is actually quite impressive. It uses a more powerful 1.4t, has a bit more room and is made in Germany. It uses a wet clutch design. The cabin has more features but it's about 20k more. The soft touch materials, the gear shift knob, oh so wonderful.. It's the cheapest of the three marques. A Merc Cla will cost another 20k more for example. The big German brands are now more vague on the origin of their cars. For example, the popular C class Merc is made in South Africa, and not long ago, the previous model gave more issues than expect for this marquee brand. BMW 216: The 216d was IMO a better drive, more torque and instant response, greater urgency and the rear seats were sliding with a three fold capability. The cabin soft touch materials were also better. The diesel is noisier but inside you hardly hear it. The view out of the cabin was nice too as you sit higher. But the 216d is about 10k more and I wonder about the reliability? The CLA is made in Hungary, and the BMW 3 series is also made in South Africa. The B Class was a solid build car with space, ergonomic and good safety features. The engine specs are also impressive, but it's about 30k more than the HRV. Ideally a Honda HRV with a nice 1.8l engine or maybe that new 1.5 turbo will be superb! Even the hybrid version has enough ommph. Pity the authorised dealers aren't bringing it in. So basically I have sort of narrowed it down to two and a half: The HRV is the car with the stuff that checks most of the list. Well made, highly functional, the last Jap made car in the Kah showroom (the Jade has dubious origins China then shipped to Japan?) Spacious, and well designed. At 112k this month, it's also within my budget by car. BUT, is it powerful enough, and a thought, planted in my mind, ala Inception - YOLO and buy something you can like.. So there's plan B... The Merc B class. About 20-30k more.. It's safe, almost as functional, spacious - you will be really surprised how big it is inside. Easy for my mum and I to get inside. The engine is decent, and will lap up the North South nicely. The third option is a bit out of my budget.. BMW 216i Drives well, very torquey and the soft touch build quality.. wow Functional too. Diesel is cheap to run, but I don't know how maintenance will be. A friend said something which resonated with me: "Seems that my friends who own BMWs tend to swear at rather than swear by the car" Any comments ? Cheers

  10. The ix25 (photos) is a sub-compact crossover built upon a variation of the i20's supermini platform. It will be sold exclusively in China. However, the global compact crossover boom means Hyundai could well build the car in international plants for worldwide consumption. If sold locally, the ix25 would be similar in most ways to the Matrix, Hyundai's popular small MPV that sold well during the noughties as it found favor with Singaporean families looking for an "affordable" and versatile runabout. The ix25 debuts this month in Beijing.
  11. The two alleged Boston Marathon bombers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were tracked by the police with the help of Mercedes' factory fitted GPS system in the hijacked 2013 M-Class. Mercedes-Benz USA was asked to locate the SUV using the Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance function on the crossover's 'mbrace2' telematics system. The owner of the M-Class is a 26-year old man whose car was stolen at a petrol station. He informed the police that his car could be tracked by Mercedes' satellite system. Mercedes-Benz USA CEO, Steve Cannon, tweeted, "Just found out that our mbrace2 technology in the stolen Mercedes helped locate the Boston terrorists! Thanks to our amazing law enforcement." Mercedes-Benz USA spokeswoman, Donna Boland, confirmed that Mercedes turned on the tracking feature after authenticating the request. Lesson of the day - use a 'not-so-advanced' vehicle when committing a crime.
  12. Acura, the luxury division under the Japanese automaker Honda, has released an image of a new concept vehicle prior to the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. From the image released, the concept vehicle is seemingly a crossover. Acura had mentioned that the concept will debut for the first time in the world at the automotive exhibition that will take place later this month in Shanghai, China. Unfortunately, apart from that and the image, the automaker has yet to reveal any other details, such as engine specifications and interior features. The concept is likely to create a new market segment, considering Acura has recently launched the 2013 all new RDX and the 2014 MDX. Judging from the tyre sizes in proportion to the car's body in the image, it seems that this new concept vehicle from Acura will be a compact crossover. If so, it'll potentially compete against the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and the Lincoln MKC, the latter two of which are going into production soon. It seems that Acura won't be the only one previewing a new concept vehicle as Honda will also do the same thing. The model that Honda will likely preview is a redesign of the Honda Odyssey. Yes, although the North American version (redesigned) of the model had just recently been revealed in the 2013 New York Auto Show, Honda has actually been selling the global version since 2008. Therefore, it seems wise for the model to see a redesign of its global version soon.

    Suzuki

Back in September last year, Suzuki showcased a concept vehicle at the Paris Motor Show. The concept is known as the S-Cross and the company has promised to unveil a production version of the concept in 2013. Recently, the Japanese automaker has released a couple of teaser images of the car in a new form and it will premiere at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. The yet unnamed C-segment crossover is based on the above mentioned concept and it is said to be the successor to the Suzuki SX4. Suzuki has stated that the car will offer outstanding versatility to consumers and it will feature a roomy interior and one of the largest luggage area in its segment. Much of the car
  14. The current generation Toyota RAV4 has been around since late 2005 and many felt that it is about time Toyota releases a new model for it. In recent months, several images of the supposedly new RAV4 were leaked onto the internet. Toyota denied and refused to comment about the leaked images but it seems that the leaked images resembled very much like the real thing which was unveiled at the recent LA Auto Show. The fourth generation Toyota RAV4 made its world debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show and the car will be made available by early next year. The new model will come in a variety of powertrains that will aid in engaging a true driving experience. One of the engines made available is a 2.5-litre four cylinder unit which produces 176bhp and 233Nm of torque. The V6 engine option previously offered will be discontinued. The standard four speed automatic transmission will be replaced with a six speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. The first and second gear ratios are optimised for urban driving. In order to keep engine revs lower at highway speeds and also enhance fuel usage, the fifth and sixth gears will be overdrives. The new RAV4 comes equipped with new technologies such as Sport Mode. These are enhancements made to suspension performance and the optimisation of the electric power steering. The spring rates and shock absorbers have been tuned to aid the vehicle's handling characteristics. The driver selectable Sport Mode also sharpens the transmission shift timing and action and also the throttle response. The electric power steering assist gives a firmer feel and better response to input. All new RAV4 comes with eight standard airbags and equipped with Toyota's various safety systems such as traction control, anti-lock braking system, enhanced vehicle stability control and smart stop technology. 15. [extract] With several teaser images of its new crossover concept, Suzuki has recently promised that they will showcase the concept at the Paris Motor Show. The concept is known as the S-Cross and from the teaser images, we could see that the S-Cross looks rather fresh and with a modern outlook. But enough of the teaser images because the concept has been unveiled and the S-Cross definitely looks great. Suzuki has infused its new styling language, which the company calls
  16. [extract] About a month ago, Suzuki showed the world a couple of images of its upcoming S-Cross crossover concept. One of the images was a sketch of the concept and the other, a computer rendered-image. Now, Suzuki has teased us with another image of the vehicle and it is of the rear end of the vehicle. Suzuki did not give us much clues on the concept
  17. Later this month, Peugeot will debut its crossover concept, the Peugeot 2008 Concept, at the Paris Motor Show. While we wait for the official photos from the auto show, Peugeot has teased us with several images of the concept vehicle. The Peugeot 2008 Concept is a progressed development of the Peugeot Urban Crossover Concept which the French automaker displayed at the last Beijing Motor Show. Finished in a shade of yellow, the car measures 4.11 metres long and 1.72 metres wide. This places the 2008 Concept in the small crossover segment. Several of Peugeot
  18. Suzuki Motor Corporation may not be the biggest Japanese automaker in terms of production volume but its automobile division still manages to do rather well in some parts of the world especially Asia and Europe. But they still lack sales in big and important markets such as the United States. The reason stated above is probably why Suzuki is showcasing a concept car at the upcoming Paris Auto show which will begin on the 27th of September this year. The concept is known as the S-Cross; a compact crossover model. The Suzuki S-Cross crossover concept embodies an "Emotion x Quality x Aerodynamics" design theme, which is typified by distinctive dynamic lines that start on the front bumper, sweep across the doors, and continue to the rear of the body. The concept's design elements suggest stability and solidity also help create a cutting-edge crossover look. Not many details were given about the Suzuki S-Cross except for the above pictures and it is rumoured that the S-Cross will replace the aging Suzuki SX4. Another confirmed report about the concept is that Suzuki has mentioned that the S-Cross concept will eventually make its way into production. It is just a matter of time on how the final design of the car will look like and also, if the S-Cross name will stay.
  19. 13,172 units of the 2012 model year Audi Q5 crossovers that were built between 21 June 2011 to 9 December 2011 are being recalled in the US due to a defective sunroof glass panel, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). "Some vehicles may be equipped with a front sunroof glass panel that is susceptible to breakage in extremely cold weather/temperature conditions," said NHTSA in its recall summary of the problem. "Should the sunroof's glass break while the vehicle is in use, the falling glass could cut and injure the driver or passengers. It could also distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash." Audi first learnt about the problem from its dealers after a small number of vehicles came in during the 2011/2012 winter season with a broken panoramic sunroof. The company performed an analysis which indicated that very cold temperatures could increase the tensile stress, between the front sunroof glass panel and the frame, causing the glass to shatter. I believe this is caused by the contraction of the glass frame caused by the cold weather. Volkswagen Group of America said it is not aware of any claim of accident or injury caused by this issue in documentation filed with federal safety regulators. Audi dealers will replace the front sunroof glass panel free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on August 7.

  21. [extract] The current generation Lexus RX has been around since 2009 and it is about time that the model receives a fresh new look. But we do not have to wait any longer because images of the facelifted 2013 Lexus RX has leaked into the World Wide Web and it is clear that the car is undergoing a facelift that keeps true to the company
  22. The 2011 Tokyo Motor Show has just begun and many automakers are showcasing their new models or concepts. And it is no surprise that Volkswagen has unveiled its crossover SUV concept there since it is one of the biggest auto events. The concept shows hints of what a compact hybrid crossover would look like when style, performance and efficiency are combined. Volkswagen named it the Cross Coupe Concept. A spokesperson for the company said that it is how a crossover between a four-door coupe and an SUV would look like. This concept could also be the basis for Audi's crossover SUV. The concept was designed by Walter de Silva and Klaus Bischoff and it is rather stunning. Measuring 4.34 metres long, the car is shorter than the current Volkswagen Tiguan but longer than the current VW Golf. The long front bonnet and the sloping rear lines give the car an aggressive stance. The front headlights are uniquely connected to the centre grille. The chrome strips are more than just for aesthetics purposes. The bottom strips houses the daytime running lights and the top ones are for turn signals. Interior wise, the car features four bucket seats with integrated headrests. Both front and back seats can be folded down to increase cabin space. The cargo trunk space has around 13.4 cubic feet of space and increases to 43.4 cubic feet when the seats are folded. A programmable instrument cluster, which is connected to the driving mode selector, displays various information relating to the driving mode, either sport, off-road and city. The Cross Coupe is powered by three different sources. The front wheels are powered by a 148bhp turbocharged engine which is connected to an electric motor with 54bhp. The rear wheels are powered by another electric motor which will is activated when driving in all-electric mode or during all-wheel drive driving. The rear electric motor is rated at 114bhp and a total of 262bhp if you combine all three. The batteries for the two electric motors are located where the driveshaft would normally sit. According to Volkswagen, this provides a better low centre of gravity and better balance which in turn will give the car the handling of a coupe with SUV functionality. 24. Here are some snapshots of the new Saab 9-4X crossover in production form, before its LA Auto Show debut in November. While nothing is official yet, the 9-4X engine lineup should include a 180-hp 1.6-liter Turbo, a 220-hp 2.0-liter Turbo, and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel. A 300-hp 2.8-liter V6 may also show up, and we can expect transmissions to be 6-speed manual or automatic in a front- or all-wheel drive layout. From the photos, the new Saab crossover looks to stay fairly true to the 9-4X BioPower concept by showing off Saab's new rear end styling. We can clearly see its full-width taillight setup and hockey stick C-pillar. In addition, the propeller-inspired rims are a nice touch that symbolize both Saab's aviation heritage and its new ownership by Spyker. All in all, this is a welcomed addition to the new Saab product range, which hopefully will contribute to the brand
