  1. A man was charged in court on Monday with causing the death of a cyclist along Bedok South Road last November. Wang Boon Tat, 21, was driving a van on Nov 19 when he hit Mr Salleh Ali, 57, on an electric power-assisted bicycle while overtaking the cyclist along the left lane of Bedok South Road, causing his death. The case was adjourned to July 30 for him to engage a lawyer. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_822820.html
  2. [shakehead] $800 fine only good excuse next time anyone can claim he/she hit a tree branch after an accident
  3. Hi, My dad was the victim of a hit and run this morning(8 June 2012) around 6.30am. The area is shown below: He had just cycled across the pedestrian crossing at Tampines Ave 4 junction towards Tampines MRT station (The "green man" counter on the traffic light was just 16 when he had reached the other side) and turned right to continue along Ave 4. Before he knew it, he was knocked off his bicycle. In a state of pain and daze, and also the fact the his spectacles had been knocked off from his face, he could not recall what kind of car, colour of the car and its VRN. The errant driver (Indian man, supposedly middle-aged) helped my dad with his bicycle to nearby block 156, then said that he will return after swinging his car back from the scene of accident and left. But that was the last my dad saw of him. With the help of a neighbour, my dad was able to contact my mum who immediately contacted me, after which I hurried to the scene and brought my dad to Changi Hospital. My dad suffered cuts and abrasions on the legs, left side of his face with a deep cut that needed stitches, and a fractured skull near the left eye socket area. The amount of blood stain on his shirt and shorts were just horrifying..... I have already made a police report but I need to appeal to the public who had witnessed the incident to help by providing their account or better still the VRN of the vehicle that had knocked my dad down. Thank You.
  4. just got reports that a cyclist had been hit by a pickup this morning on Changi Coast Road .... pickup windshield smash, cyclist's bicycle smashed, cyclist covered up. why don't cyclists understand the risks that they put themsleves in ??
  5. A doctor was sentenced to four weeks' jail and banned from driving for five years on Friday for causing the death of a cyclist and four other traffic offences. Teo Tiong Kiat, 65, had admitted to causing the death of freelance writer Mok Chee Kong, 35, and causing grievous hurt to Mr Bertram Leong Poh Meng, 24, a chef, by a negligent act along Clementi Road on March 21, 2010. He had a glass of wine that evening but his breath specimen was below the prescribed legal limit. A third cyclist had testified that he saw Teo's car suddenly swerve into the extreme left lane where his two friends were cycling one behind the other. He heard tyre-screeching sounds followed by a loud collision. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_803049.html
  6. What type of Shady deal is there on this trail?? Took 4 hours to find the body......shady indeed. AsiaOne Monday, May 21, 2012 SINGAPORE - A 38-year-old cyclist was found dead near Changi Coast Road on Saturday, reported The Straits Times (ST). The police received a call for help at about 5pm but only found the body in a forested area off the cycling track
  7. A cyclist cycling on the new bridge to IMM when it stated as fine $1000, push your bike across. Did not manage to take a photo on time. Wanted to report the case but look at the sign no phone number. All the signs were put up for F.... That's our civil servant works, just finish their job without thinking thru, how to make it more efficient. Anyway cyclists in jurong are likes to ride with one hand talking on phone, some even listening to music, speeding across red lights not pushing acrossm riding pn the pedestrian walk when next to it is a cyclist path, cycling in the night without headlights and all sort of bad habits you can easily see it. Did call TP, they said not under their care....... Singapore has no laws for cyclists, No insurances coverage and no rules to govern them ??????. My Mother who had stroke many many years back walk with a 1/5 step of a normal human being. She was scolded by a cyclist for walking too slow blocking his way on a PEDESTRIAN WALK. My son of 17 months, just started walking was nearly hit by a cyclist speeding, missed him by an inch on a PEDESTRIAN WALK. NO GOVERNMENT cyclists all over Jurong only ???????????????????
  8. Sorry brothers. Let me rant. Shouldn't TP or LTA enforce that CYCLISTS shouldn't cycle in Lane 1 a.k.a "Fast Lane" a.k.a "Speeding Lane"? KNN. Those cyclists think they can ride faster than 70 KM/h is it? These stupid Cyclist think they are professional simply because they are in full cycling gear, helmet, crotch-protruding ballet tights? They don't want their lives, I want to keep my driving license! [rifle]
  9. AsiaOne Saturday, Mar 24, 2012 SINGAPORE - Dr Teo Tiong Kiat admitted in court on Friday to causing the death of a pedal cyclist and injuring another when he suddenly swerved from the centre to the left lane of the road. The 64-year-old stands accused of hit-and-run for the Clementi Road accident at about 9.25pm on March 21, 2010. The careless driving caused the death of Mr Mok Chee Kong, 35, when Dr Teo hit the back of the freelance writer's bicycle. He also injured Mr Bertram Leong Poh Meng, 24, a fellow cyclist. The court heard that he had a glass of red wine before the accident. Dr Teo is pleading guilty to two charges. As for the three remaining charges of failing to stop and provide assistance after the accident, as well as removing his car without lawful authority, Mr Teo is claiming trial. Mr Teo returned to the scene after half an hour and told the traffic police that he was the driver of the car. He smelled of alcohol and his face was flushed, said the corporal present at the scene of the crime. Dr Teo's second breathalyser test on the scene recorded a 'warning' reading. At the Traffic Police headquarters, he was required to take another test, which he passed. The test recorded about half the prescribed legal limit of 35mcg per 100ml. The trial continues next week. Link to article I wonder how the doctor can fight the case off. In the evening papers, it was reported that his bonnet and windscreen were badly damaged due to the impact. If you were the driver under what circumstances will you fail to realize the damage? If he had stopped and offer aid to the cyclist, the person may have been saved given that the driver is an experienced doctor.
  10. STOMPer Frederic said this Caucasian cyclist parked his bike in front of a bus after accusing the driver of trying to force him off the road. The cyclist apparently even threatened to beat up the driver. Said the STOMPer: "This Caucasian man audaciously parked his bicycle in front of a SBS bus 197 when it came to a halt in front of a bus stop near Bukit Merah at 6.40pm, Feb 28. "He got up the bus and accused the PRC bus driver of attempting to force him off the road (while he was cycling) on two occasions. "Not being able to communicate in English, the PRC driver could only stare back at him in silence. "Passengers on the bus heard the Caucasian man threatened the driver, saying 'whack the hell out of you' and 'this is Singapore, not China'. "The Caucasian man used his mobile phone to call the police as well, claiming that he is not letting the bus go till police arrived. "I feel that he is simply ridiculous, overbearing and inconsiderate. Regardless of the unproven and groundless accusation, his actions delayed all the commuters who had to get off the bus and wait for the next bus. "Police arrived in about 10 minutes. No details on how the dispute concluded as I had to leave the scene by the time police arrived."
  11. Your driving license can get banned because of cycling http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/...221-329237.html Cyclist fined, gets driving ban for causing biker's death SINGAPORE - A cyclist was fined $6,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for five years on Tuesday, reported The Straits Times. Shoel Abdul Bayes, 35, a Bangladeshi marine trades worker, was found to have caused the death of a motorcyclist in the accident on Jan 4, 2011. Bayes had failed to keep a proper lookout when filtering to the right lane, resulting in a collision with the deceased, Mr Toh Eng Huat, 57. Mr Toh, a delivery driver, hit the back of the bicycle and skidded to a halt 28m away. Bayes was also thrown off his bicycle upon impact. Mr Toh died about seven hours later in hospital from his injuries. Bayes has been working in Singapore since 1999 and was promoted to supervisor in 2009.
  12. My guess is that the woman rode her bicycle across the zebra crossing instead of pushing it across and then the cabby suay suay knocked into her. Both were wrong but the cabby should share the bigger blame because as drivers we bo bian have to give way to pedestrians or cyclists even if we have the right of way. Unless the STOMPer was hiding something if not based on what was being described the cabby would kena jialat jialat from the authorities. And he should have sent the injured to the hospital regardless of what happened. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...refuses_to.html Posted on 31 Jan 2012 Cabby knocks down mum on bicycle, then refuses to send her to hospital STOMPer Sharina's friend was hit by a taxi while cycling. The cabby 'made a lot of noise' when paying for her friend's injection at a nearby clinic, and refused to send the friend to NUH when the doctor recommended she go for an x-ray. The STOMPer wrote: "On Jan 26 2012, my friend was cycling along Pioneer Road North after fetching her son and was knocked down by a taxi driver at the zebra crossing. "The taxi driver did not want to take any responsibility. He only sent her to a nearby clinic and paid $64 for her injection. "He made a lot of noise when paying. He also refused to send my friend to NUH even though the clinic's doctor had recommended that my friend go for an x-ray, and my friend was unable to walk. "We told the taxi driver to send us to the nearest police station as we wanted to lodge a report. When we arrived at the Jurong Division Police Station, we were greeted by Officer Kumar who advised us to proceed to NUH and even called an ambulance for my friend. "We lodged a police report on Friday, Jan 27 2012 and we are waiting for the outcome. "I just hope that the taxi driver will be brought to justice for his carelessness."
  13. With many drivers like to "keep close keep tight" on the road, this fellow is d**n lucky to be alive..

    Be a safe cyclist

I was going to Bedok Central for lunch on a weekday. I parked my car at the open carpark next to Block 416 and made my walk to the traffic lights at Bedok North Street 1, opposite Bedok Community Library. After waiting for about 30 seconds, the green man appeared and I crossed the road. Upon reaching the other end of the road, the side of my eye caught a speeding bicycle approaching in my direction when other vehicles have stopped. Naturally, I slowed down my pace to avoid getting hurt. After the incident, I asked myself this question
  15. Singapore Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Jun 13, 2011 Pedestrian fined for causing hurt to cyclist By Elena Chong A PEDESTRIAN stepped onto the road without looking to the right and collided with a cyclist who died five hours later. On Monday, Xu Yuanyuan, 19, a Chinese national, was fined $1,500 after she admitted to causing hurt to cleaner Lock Wai Chee, 42, by doing a negligent act as to endanger his life. The court heard that Xu, a student, was waiting at the pavement of the Jalan Bukit Merah by Henderson Road junction on Dec 21 last year when she took a step forward when the traffic signal was against her. As a result, she collided into the cyclist who was cycling towards her from her right side along Henderson Road. Mr Lock was thrown off the bicycle and suffered serious head injuries. He died at 10.19pm. Xu could have been jailed for up to six months and/or fined up to $2,500. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_679377.html
  16. I always thought that under the laws of singapore, the cyclist is not supposed to cycle on the pavement but their rightful place is on the road. Anyone can confirm that? I just saw a cyclist belting out profanity when his cycling route on the payement is blocked by cars. included in his tirade were justification that the pavement was meant for cyclist like him. what happens is that alto the cars blocked his way, they left gaps wide enough for humans to pass through but probably did not factor a cyclist laying his claim to the right of way for a stretch that is dividing 2 pavements. the cars were actually parked at the tarmac road entrance seperating 2 ends of the pavement and pendicular to the pavement.
  17. Just thought everyone should know about this prick. Reminds me of the mx5 dick. Article Anyone knows him ? Can't seem to find the article on the news.
  18. if car or motorbike I have nothing to say but bicycle! I was at cross junction near Tiong bahru. I was on the left most lane. A BmW in the middle and a cab on the right. As our light turned green. We all began to move off. A super duper cyclist suddenly came out of nowhere and cut in front of all 3 of of us. It then proceed to move in my lane.... I jam my brakes and gave a loud horn for around 2sec showing my extreme discontent. WTF is the cyclist trying to do? Courting death. If either one of the vehicles is moving fast (my view was blocked by the BMW somemore), it could well mean GG for the cyclist.....
  19. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story...119-248066.html kaoz, what kind of reason. And only got fined for total of $2,400 ""The impact caused the cyclist, Mr Muhammad Asri Aris, 19, to be flung onto the windscreen before landing on the left side of the road. The windscreen was cracked as a result. Wong heard a bang and looked in that direction. But thinking that it was a rotten tree branch that had fallen, she did not stop and continued driving home."" Like that also can say it's a rotten tree branch??
  20. Damn bloody pissed! was around 550pm. Was on my way home. traveled along Stevens road on right lane, reached junction at good wood park hotel. Saw a cyclist at the most right lane at junction and parallel stop with a car who signal right, and the cyclist position is able to spot the right signal. Green light, the cyclist move on and i thought he wanted to turn right too. Wrong! he wanna go straight and the car had to jam brake. Cyclist stop and allow the car to turn right. WTF! not over yet. I drove and slow down to his speed and realised he is a Caucasian, told him off "KEEP TO THE LEFT WILL YOU, IS DANGERS FOR YOU TO RIDE ON RIGHT LANE". guess what he said? "I WANNA TURN RIGHT IN FRONT! (turn right to wheel lock), I GONNA KICK YOU IN YOUR MOUTH". I have no idea why he said that. As I drove forward (cant stop as there was car behind me)and stop at Ion Orchard junction (red light) to wait for him to approach closer to snap his photo. He slow down. Bloody balless! This kind of Caucasian is really a pain in our ass here.
  21. If anyone of you read this or your friend is reading this. Appreciate you let the fellow cyclist know. SAFETY 1st! Your group is about 20 in size if not wrong. With majority consist of Caucasian & few local. You have always occupied the whole left lane and we driver is kind enough not to kick a din since you are in a big group. All I need is you stick to the left lane and do not come over to RIGHT LANE!!!! get that? LEFT LANE only! not 1st lane. (I am a cyclist too!) I encounter a group of cyclist almost every Friday morning while driving along Holland road towards Orchard road. Right at the junction of Botanical Garden, a couple of cyclist suddenly diverted from the main group. Went to 1st lane and carry on cycling, and without any blinker at all. I drove past their and shouted at them "Please keep to left lane. Left lane only!" It really spoil my Friday mood! so inconsiderate and selfish (I guess they want to filter into Tangling road and lazy to to use pedestrian crossing at the junction right in front of Tanglin Shopping Center)
  22. Bring my dog for a walk just now (around 9+ pm). While crossing the road outside change hotel, suddenly hear a loud scream and bang. Turn my head around and saw a female cyclist being knocked down by a white merc cab. Minutes later, more cyclists gather and ambulance arrived. Hope the female cyclist is alright.
  23. We know that quite a number of cyclists have been in the news as of late, getting into accidents on the road, some of which have been fatal. I sympathize with them, myself having been a victim once when my bicycle got hit by a truck, flinging me off and breaking my right arm in the process. But as we say sometimes, it takes two hands to clap While i've had more than my fair share of encounters with cyclists with no sense near where i live (Ah Nehs cycling at nite, wearing black shirts, black shorts and riding black bicycles with no reflectors or lights whatsoever), my encounter today at Sims Ave in the Geylang area tops it all I was driving eastward from Kallang to Bedok via Sims Ave. The junction ahead was green in my favor and i was in the second lane. There was a van in the first lane about one car length in front. Suddenly, out of nowhere, this bicycle pops out from in front of the van and cycles diagonally AGAINST THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. I had to step on my brakes to avoid hitting him, which luckily i did not. Here's a very simple picture to show this epic stupidity
  24. What are the causes of cycling fatalities? Who is more to blame? Cyclists or drivers? What can be done to reduce such accidents?
  25. Guys/Gals, just wondering is cyclist allow to cycle on the Highway/Flyover.Saw one cyclist this morning on AYE just the exit toward Lower Delta road. He stopping at the side trying to adjust (I think) his bike but fell down on the road (on the lane!) It was so dangerous. Cars was going at the speed of 80-100. And could hit him any time. Wondering is he trying to be funny or is he crazy...
