    Cycling at hell's gate

It was a Thursday evening and I was on my way home, sitting on a bus along Eunos Link. I was looking out at the traffic with a tired mind after a long day at work and suddenly, this uncle cyclist caught my attention. Initially, he was at the front of a traffic junction with the rest of the drivers and motorcyclists. When the traffic lights turned green, he cycled as fast as he could to keep up with the petrol powerplants beside him. The traffic is always quite busy on a weekday evening along Eunos Link and the rest of the road users were trying their best to avoid him. I did some research and understand that cyclists are allowed on the Singapore road by law. However, an example of an act by this uncle is truly dangerous. He has become a road hazard to himself and other motorists. He could have cycled along the side of the road rather than at the middle of the traffic. I could not imagine the consequences if he accidentally fell off his bicycle or a car hits him by accident. In Chinese, there is a saying that for a cyclist, the human body covers the metal while for a driver, the metal covers the human body. It is a no brain'er question on who is at the losing end when these two collides. I suppose excercising some common sense is more important than what the law says. I hope that this uncle arrived safely at his destination on that Thursday evening.
  3. I was driving down crawford street towards lavender st and this AT cyclist was cycling against traffic from north bridge road towards me. I slowed down, knowing that this joker might try something and he really did. If i moved abit closer, there would be a collision. Still got the cheek to stare at me and take out his comb from his back pocket to comb his hair. Cycle on the ped crossing on victoria St and back on the roads along lavendar st again. Do we have some form of protection against them? Since its a vehicle hit a cyclist, we die die got to bear some fines and points.
  4. Bloody hell, this angmo cyclist just dash out at the junction.....lucky i manage to ebrake in time and taxi behind me almost hit me too!! See the screen shot from my car video...
  5. Haizz...just saw an accident between an Axio and a chinese cyclist. He was lying motionless in front of the car at Sungei Kadut. Last month also saw another one at Senoko, another chinese cyclist hit by Mitsu Lancer(new model). Saw his leg fractured quite bad and the unker driver kpkb to him despite he's in pain. Sowry no picture, too gross to take. Drivers just beware

  7. I knew this was going to happen someday....... Home > Breaking News > Singapore > StoryMarch 17, 2009Man hit by cyclist, dies A 52-YEAR-OLD man died after being hit by a bicycle at an open-air carpark on Monday. He was knocked down by a 14-year-old cyclist in the carpark behind Block 96, Henderson Road at about 7.20 pm. He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Singapore General Hospital, where he died six hours later. The teen cyclist was unhurt.
  8. Was driving this morning along Dunearn Road (after Eng Neo) around 730am. Those who use this road will know that it is a busy stretch especially nearer to NJC and Hwa Chong. So I was on the extreme right lane, when all of sudden, found myself driving behind a cyclist straddling between lanes 2 & 3! And the cyclist just rode on nonchalantly, with no intention of switching back to leftmost lane. I think this is pretty inconsiderate because you could see the traffic being hindered by the cyclist's actions. Not sure if this chap is doing this everyday ... this is my first time encountering this.
  9. i stay in e East side n is not hard to c cyclists tat cycle on the road, n i meant those in colorful tight outfits tat looks like they r going for suba diving. While i got no issue wif them, problem is they like to take up the whole L lane n cycle side by side depending on their nos. Esp so for those ang mo who thinks they r in France'scountry side doing their tour de France. Is there any guide lines on wat cyclist shld excercise when OTR?
  10. Managed to record this interesting scene. I saw this lady cyclist on Nicoll Highway towards City direction on Thursady morning. The way she rode was very unstable. For a moment I was wonderig if bicycles are allowed on highway but what a heck... While I turned right at the Nicoll Highway and Middle Road junction, you could see that she performed a "drift" and suddenly cut into my way. Fortunately I anticipated her move and slowly moved behind her. Then while I was on Seah Street and about to North Bridge Road and while I was queuing behind a Comfort taxi, what happend later was even more amazing. She rode past my car from the right and drifted into the North Bridge Road (view partially blocked by the taxi in front of me) into the busy traffic. You could see a while car and another grey car dashed past and nearly bumped into her. I could even hear a loud horn, probably from the white car. What an interesting morning...

  13. 1. I've withnessed on several occasions that some cyclists simply dashed across zebra crossing. 2. Is there a rule that mentioned that they have to push the bicycle across the zebra crossing? What if they dashed through and your car hit them? I suppose driver's fault again . Regards,
  14. Last week, when i driving home at punggol, heard a Taxi horning and then notice that the taxi driver is horning a cyclist (Racer bike cyclist)who is riding in the middle of the road. When the taxi came to a stopped at the traffic light and then came the cyclist stopping beside the taxi. Suddenly, the cyclist using his fist and bang the window of the taxi. I was shocked to see this as my car is next to the taxi. Then the taxi driver wind down his window and ask the cyclist what he want and was saying in hokkien that the cyclist at fault for riding in the middle of the road and still wanna find trouble. The reaction of the cyclist was "#@*!&^%CB^&*CB^&*)*CB....you know the rules a not...%&^**CB#$%^$CB"!!! Luckily, the taxi driver has a passenger in his car or else more problem will happen. After that, this cyclist still occupying one lane by himself feeling that this lane belongs to him. Just like to know is the cyclist really allowed to ride in the middle of the road the rules allowed them to do it???? Really feel sorry for the taxi driver meeting such arrogant cyclist.
  15. Dear all, I hv finally seen one myself today. I hv been hearing comments from fellow mates abt FT cyclist racing / playing wif each other. todae i hv witness it with my own @.@ I was driving on the left lane of the 2 lane road. in front of me is a line , of abt 6~7 FT cyclist, nothing wrong. Suddenly one of them over took the fella in front and decided to play wif him. then in return the "overtaken" rammed and sideswipe his bicycle, causing the other fella to lose his balance and nearly mount the kerb and fell. All these while i m abt 2~3 car length behind them, siam first... All MCFers just take note and beware, in case one of these days the fella fell just in front of our ride then its really mice
  16. Was on my way to work this morning around 10 am. There's a jam on the slip road from Bt Panjang to BKE towards Airport. Never jam during this hour before. Then as I got closer, saw a TP WRX, with a Axio and two ladies, one sobbing in car the other like just woke up and gong gong standing outside talking to TP Further down the road on the right side of the railing I saw black trash bag covering a body and a helmet place beside it. then on the left side is a smashed up motorcycle. From my rear mirror, I don't think the Axio was damaged at all... could be the keen of the victim. RIP... Ride safely to our brothers who ride. CNY around the corner liao.
  17. its my turn to rant... place: along guillemard opposite s'pore badminton association day/time: yesterday about 6.30pm road condition: fair weather, moderate traffic while waiting like the rest for the light to turn green, i looked around, bored..as usual.. noticed from my rear-view mirror there's a bicycle cyclist (with full cycle gear, helmet, tights, sunglass etc) weaving in from 2 to my lane (1). thought, should'nt they cycle on lane 3? its dangerous man... then i glanced in front, great, light in front turned green.. gonna prepare to move off. suddenly, a BANG sound from the rear. i looked back, saw the stupid cyclist crashed his bicycle on my car! i was stunned for a moment, while the guy quickly picked up his bicycle and continued his way. i quickly came out, and expectedly, there was a dent and some deep scratches. but the bugger has gone ahead. pissed off, i give chase along the same lane even tho he was out of sight.. after a minute, saw him still cycling on lane 1. drove beside him, honked and asked if he's ok. he said he's fine. then i told him to pull over at road side cos there's damage to my car and i wanna talk with him. he said ok i filtered to lane 3 and stopped before the next red light. but that bugger just cycled off. darn.. true enough, after the light turned green again, he's gone, either continued his way to paya lebar, sims or geylang road.. knn.. no balls to be a responsible man to face what he has done btw, he's a grown-up man, with a fake angmor accent.. PUI!

  21. THE STRAITS TIMES INTERACTIVE Dec 22, 2004 Cyclist gets pinned under wheel of bus 37-year-old cycling in a group in critical condition after bus hits and drags him By Teh Joo Lin A GROUP of about 40 cyclists looked on in horror as one of their group was pinned under the right front wheel of a bus in Lim Chu Kang Road on Sunday morning. Mr Sylvester Ang is now in a critical condition at National University Hospital after being rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The 37-year-old store designer was part of a group of cyclists who ride every Sunday on a trail that stretches from Thomson to Newton. The group had begun riding as usual at 8.30am and had turned from Neo Tiew Road into Lim Chu Kang Road when the accident occurred. Mr Richard Tann, 55, a general manager of a moving company, was ahead of the pack, when he saw a blue bus approaching from the opposite direction. Mr Tann said a lorry was parked in front of the bus, so he signalled to the bus driver to stop and not change lanes until the line of cyclists had passed. 'But he showed me his middle finger and moved out of his lane,' he alleged. Seconds later, Mr Tann heard a 'very loud' bang. According to eyewitnesses, after the bus left its lane, the cyclists were forced to slow down and shift further to the left. Another member of the group said: 'Some (cyclists) were squeezed onto the grass patch... we were forced to bunch up together.' Some cyclists shouted at the driver to slow down, but in vain. The bus hit Mr Ang and dragged him for about 7m as it swerved back into its lane and stopped. According to the cyclists, Mr Ang's pelvic and left thigh region was stuck under the wheel of the bus. Said one of them, who declined to be named: 'His helmet was in pieces and his left leg was totally smashed. One of the riders who attended to him was a plastic surgeon. He told us not to touch his body.' Right after the accident, the bus driver was seen shaking his head and making calls on his cellphone. None of the passengers, believed to be tourists, got off the bus, said the cyclists. Together with the police, the SCDF arrived about 15 minutes later and rescued Mr Ang, using airbags to jack up the bus, said an SCDF spokesman. Mr Ang is now in intensive care. He is believed to have suffered severe head trauma, punctured lungs and multiple fractures to his lower limbs. The bus driver is now assisting police in investigations. Meanwhile, Mr Ang's family and friends are keeping vigil at his ward. Said one of his cycling mates: 'When we train together, he never gives up. Even when he is falling behind, he keeps pedalling, and the next thing you know, he is beside you again. But this must be the hardest race of his life.' Safety advice # Wear a helmet and check brakes and tyres. # Obey all traffic rules. # Use hand signals when changing lanes. # Have lights at night.
