  1. This actually caught my eye when I was over in Jakarta. It really caught my eye as I circled around it trying to figure out what car it actually is. It had the Daihatsu badge stuck on its overly modified front end. Not only was the front end heavily modified to look like a Smart ForFour, the sides were pumped out and were wider than Jennifer Lopez's hips and the rear end was also a mishmash of ideas - With the 'coupe' badging on its rear hatch sticking out like a sore thumb (which can be seen in a photo below). It was a four door 'coupe'. One that would certainly fit the bill as one of those cars featured in UK's MAXPOWER magazine. And so after five or so minutes of circling the little Daihatsu I surmised that it must be a 1st generation Daihatsu Sirion (above) and took some photos of it for remembrance's sake. I believe I am correct stating that the 'coupe' was indeed a Sirion (I could be wrong) and upon browsing the web for some photos of the Sirion I noticed the similiar roofline (albeit with a filled in three quarter window at the C-pillar) of the car mentioned herein and a stock Daihatsu Sirion. Of course I may be wrong, but what other fairly new Daihatsu would fit the bill? It has to be a Daihatsu as that car did have a Daihatsu badge stuck on its front end. Now that the identity of the car has been made known, the other question that is left to be answered is whether this heavily made up Sirion is better looking than the standard car. Is it? Or is it something that only the owner could love and be extremely proud of?
  2. [extract] Daihatsu isn't a very popular choice for car buyers around here mainly due to the high COE figures and its focus at the small car segment of the market. The high COE in the 1600cc category means that buyers want better value for their money and that Daihatsu has to fight off a lot of other competitors and something I still do not agree with
  3. Daihatsu showcased the new mini roadster model at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Sept. Looks really nice... I'd take it over the Copen any day... The 3 piece liquid crystal roof that folds into the boot is especially cool. Hope it make production fast. Oh yeah.... It's still a Kei car.. meaning 660cc Turbo. ------------------------------------------------ A future replacement for the Copen, perhaps? Daihatsu has created a concept called OFC-1 hinting very strongly at its next-generation mini-roadster. The three-piece glass roof, featuring a liquid-crystal sunroof, opens in less than 10 seconds and leaves enough boot space to accommodate a pair of overnight bags. It features 'a high-performance turbo engine', says Daihatsu, and a CVT gearbox with seven-speed sequential-shift mode and paddleshifts, yet excellent fuel economy is promised. Electronically controlled adaptive suspension and four-wheel disc brakes aid handling, safety and comfort, and the OFC-1 sits on 17" wheels with 165/50R sports tyres.
  4. Are these reconditioned vehicles? (ie. Scraped vans from Japan) I don't recall seeing such vehicles registered here in 2004 http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-0QwlMyNl-1126.html http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/listing.php?...&sb.x=28&sb.y=8
  5. Now that flood is most common in singapore. Thinking of getting a Daihatsu Terios Anybody own it before, can advise the pro and cons of this car and the fc?
  6. I bring you readers more sad news about the automotive industry. After 54 years of doing so Subaru will stop producing their own small vehicles early next year. Those that remember Subaru's history will note that the company started making minicars at first. The tiny Subaru 360 was the first car ever built by Fuji Heavy Industries, a.k.a Subaru and now they will stop designing their own small cars but sell rebadged Toyota/Daihatsu since Toyota is now a major shareholder in Subaru. The reason is that in 2010, Subaru only managed to sell 93,000 small cars. Most of the cars are sold in Japan and according to the management, it isn't feasible to continue manuafacturing their own cars. It seems that rebadging a Daihatsu Boon/Sirion makes more sense economically. Of course it does. But they're so utterly predictable and dull vehicles. Take the Toyota Passo a.k.a Daihatsu Sirion/Boon a.k.a Perodua Myvi a.k.a Subaru Justy. They may look slightly different with different eylashes, skirts or jewellery, but they are basically the same shape. Everyone knows they're actually buying the same car and why they bought the certain model depended on whether the sales person managed to convince them or that they just didn't care what car they bought. Compare that with the Subaru R2 (which is already replaced by the Daihatsu Tanto) and the R1 above. Now these are really cute little cars that I'd like to drive. But I can't anymore since Subaru started rebadging the Sirion as a Justy. In fact there are quite a few R1s running around Singapore and I seriously hope that some survive the vehicle scrapping within the next few years so that people can still see how good looking these cars really are in years to come. And this little fact also made me realize that this is the real reason why the latest Subaru Impreza (pictured below) looks kind of unimpressive or slightly dull to some people. It has 'TOYOTA' written all over it. Can anyone in here name me an interesting Toyota that has been launched and in production in 2010 and 2011 aside from it being a Lexus? No. I don't think so. Subaru has hit a new level of blandness (and a new low in terms of car production) and I blame it on the general dullness of Toyota. It is as simple as that.
  7. STOMPer Ng spotted this Singapore-registered car at a carpark in Kuala Lumpur and wonders if the owner is aware that the car is there. The STOMPer wrote: "While on a business trip two weeks back, I saw this Singapore-registered car that was parked at the Crowne Plaza Mutiara Hotel Carpark in KL. "From the looks of it, it seems that the car was parked there for more than a year since the road tax already expired on June 2009. And there was a thick layer of dust on the body of the car. "Hope this post will help the owner find the car." http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...kl_carpark.html
  8. I've been scouring the interweb and haven't really been able to find an answer... Does anyone know what is the minimum octane level usable for the Daihatsu Copen? 95 or 98? Also as its a turbo (albeit a tiny 660cc), does that mean that I should stick to w50 engine oil? (urban driving only, no NSH). TIA.
  9. does singapore has this daihatsu atrai? looks very interesting! specs: 660cc wif turbo 2WD/4WD petrol driven 64bhp (cant get much specs) looks very practical..

    The ultimate Copen

Daihatsu has launched the 2011 model year version of its tiny Copen roadster in Japan. In order to keep buyers interested, Toyota's subsidiary enhanced the base trim level with additional standard features and introduced a new Ultimate S Edition that gets a restyled grille, dark colored 15-inch BBS alloys, a Momo steering wheel and gear lever, plus the option of full leather sport seats or a set of Recaro buckets draped in Alcantara. All versions of the 3.4-meter long Copen come with a power hardtop and a 660cc turbocharged engine producing 64HP at 6,000 rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 3,200rpm. The engine is matched to either a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual gearbox.

  12. Aren't you guys glad Singapore practices the COE and car scrapping? There is a recent automobile recall dated 23rd February 2010 by the United States of America's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) affecting the 1990-1992 Daihatsu Rocky (NHSTA report 10V083000) . It seems that the NHTSA was the main fact finder in Toyota's recall issue and not even a nearly two decade year old Daihatsu can escape scrutiny. Nothing escapes the long arm of the NHSTA. The Daihatsu Rocky's reason for a recall is that the check valve in the fuel vapor evaporation emission control system might develop a crack in long-term vehicle usage due to insufficient durability under some environmental or operational circumstances. The consequence could be a leak of fuel evaporation gas vapor into the vehicle which may result in a fire. Daihatsu would now have to replace the old check valve with a new check valve of improved construction. As expected, the service will be performed free of charge starting in March 2010. According to NHTSA, about 4,000 units of the Rocky are affected by the recall exercise. Now because tracking down affected Daihatsu owners is pretty complicated given the fact that the cars were produced 17 or 18 years ago, and many may have changed hands, scrapped, destroyed, totaled, stolen or even as per the recall issue, burnt by fire throughout the years. I doubt there are any Daihatsu Rockys left in Singapore especially with the COE and vehicle scrapping schemes. Add the fact that this small 4X4 isn't a collectible car like some 1990s sports cars it surely must be an extinct species already. Never have I read anywhere that the Rocky will be a future classic. The FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser maybe worth saving but definitely not a Rocky. Of course there are some still running around in Malaysia, but I have not heard of Rocky users reporting their Rockys turning into a pile of molten metal over the last 15 years. What will surface next? Ford recalling the Model T from 1924-1925? I have to assume that everyone is getting worked up over Toyota's recall issues. We are now witnessing a recall frenzy nowadays folks. The floodgates are wide open.
  13. STS posted an advertisement in ST today on their new model : 1.5L Full size 7-seater MPV at $66k. Anyone knows what model will it be cos it only shows the shadow.
  14. Subaru has been a unique brand on having boxer engine in their production cars. Now joining the Toyota and Daihatsu on producing the Materia or Bb. Not sure if it is a good news or a bad news for Subaru....but to me, its really sad to hear and see Subaru car is indeed a rebadged Daihatsu Materia Another blow for Subaru lovers is that Subaru also rebadged the Toyota Passo as the new Subaru Justy. Daihatsu Sirion...then Perodua Myvi and now..... Oh no........where is the Subaru attitude..where is the boxer roars SUBARU JUSTY
  15. its cheaper than jazz/fit FC that is only slightly poorer than jazz/fit (i believe) sirion sports version looks good (to me) but over last week the ratio i saw was like 50 jazzes/fits to ONE pathetic sirion (& 1 passo!) why ah?

  19. I happen to read up on this car yesterday in Hot Stuff, what do you think? Copied from a jap website:
  20. The year was 2001. April 28. Around 3pm. It was a normal working day for me. Just finished one tuition session and on the way to another. Bright day & not too hot. Got into my black 1982 Nissan Pulsar 1.0DX. Such an old car. Slow like a tortoise. Entered AYE from boon lay towards keppel. Dont dare to travel on lane one cos afraid of others flashing me and also worried my pulsar might fall to bits if I exceeded 80km/hr. Sigh. Approaching alexandra exit. Suddenly, in my rear view mirror, two puny dots appeared out of nowhere, but they caught my attention because the dots where darting in and out of other vehicles, side swapping every thing which got in their way, from lane one to lane two, and then back to lane one again. As they got nearer, their shapes got more familiar. Toyota Starlets? Suzuki Swift Gti? Within the spilt 10 seconds of me noticing them, they were beside my pulsar, exhausts raoring like mad, turbos spooling like no tomorrow, Blow off valves blowing like two mad typhoons. One was a gleaming Black color and the other a bright Yellow, but both were undeniably 3 door Daihatsu Charade Gtti hatchbacks. Watching them race each other, albeit dangerous & inconsiderate & even silly, was exhilarating! It was as if all other vehicles were stationary, except for the black & yellow Gtti hatches zigging in & out of traffic. Unforgettable. Thats why I still remember till today.
  21. The Daihatsu Hijet minivan has the most dubious title as the vehicle for having the tiniest exhaust pipe! BUT not THIS Hijet..... http://www.jetpower.co.uk/hijet_7.htm Don't play play with this baby!

  23. Quote from PIVOT website, http://pivotjp.com/information/frame-earth-e.html "When wishing to add an earth connection for new type car models which in order to control battery recharging have a "electrical current sensor" connected to the Minus battery terminal do not take the earth directly from the Minus terminal but rather from the earth connection on the body which is taken from the sensor. If earth is taken directly from the Minus terminal recharging control may not work properly and there is a possibility that performance will be adversely effected." 24. Anyone considering this car? Think it looks much better than the standard copen, more importantly it's the accessories which come with it. Have a look at http://www.daihatsu.co.jp/showroom/lineup/...ation/index.htm This is the list of upgrades: - BBS 15 inch sports rims with lower profile tyres - Black Chrome plated grille - Clear crystal rear combi lamps - Clear lens lamps - Shiny black panels (looks much better than present plasticky looking one) - White Meters - Bilstein shock absorbers (a major upgrade needed. Heard that the normal version has a very rough ride especially when going fast) - RECARO Alcantara seats - MOMO Steering wheel And it comes in a new shiny purple color. :) Think Apricars is advertising this model every sat. Anyone knows the price? Cheers!
