  1. early in the morning, as if the weather is not bad enough, met 3 idiots along the way and i just hv to vent it here.. haha.. so bear wif me guys.. first, a toyota picnic. i'm sure it's not the first time i'm encountering this car, bcos found it strange for a picnic to have those mini flag poles at the front (in which i assume is a chauffeured car for vip), but yet with a normal car plate. the last time, noticed tt it likes to zip in & out slow moving traffic inside cbd, tailgating cars in front aggressively, but didnt think much of it as he might be rushing for time due to the VIP inside. today, it chu different pattern, right in front of me. just abt 15m away from the red light (abt 2-3 car length frm the traffic light, but no car in front), it cut into my lane at high speed. seriously, got so rush or not? 6.45am in e morning leh. in e end, the car just zoom right to, amoy street mkt for breakfast. ntg to say. second, a honda civic with an ah beng uncle. after my breakfast, went back to car. saw this civic parked next to me. guy got out, but remaining standing by the door in between our car, and companion was still in the car. the guy was looking at me while i walked towards my car, and i was naturally looking at him since he's just standing next to my car. as i opened the door and about to get in, i thought i heard he say smthg, so i looked at him again and said "yes?" and then it happened. all the hokkien came out, kua si mi, u xiao lian eh bua song si mi, all came out. initially, i was still laughing a bit out of amusement, trying to explain i thought he was talking to me, and told him it's so early in the morning, dont be so free to find quarrel. but then, he kept repeating and repeating, so really made my blood start boiling. so i shouted back at him, "i bua song you!" then i re-composed myself, went in car & closed e door, before anythg drastic happen. maybe it's the cold weather, my car then refused to start on the first 2 attempts. so this monkey stood in front of my car, mimicking me starting the car with his monkey face. damn TL. haha.. then i pointed to him my car video recorder on my dashboard, he shouted at me smthg frm outside, but finally stood one side for me to drive off. third and lastly, turning right into shenton way from boon tat street, kena an old man jaywalking in the middle of the road, with HIS BACK AGAINST THE TRAFFIC! heart nearly popped out. it was still dark and raining. luckily saw him last min, if not really rammed right into him. and after all these traumatic experiences, it's only 7+ in the morning. FML.
  2. Then why the fark don't u surrender yr passport and take up pink IC? ST Forum May 13, 2011 From feeling of home to an unwelcome presence in days I HAVE been a Singapore permanent resident for eight years. My wife and I were married here, and my son who was born here speaks English with a Singaporean accent. When his time comes, he will serve national service, like other Singapore-born teenagers. We were so proud when we got tickets for the National Day Parade last year. When we return to Singapore from our holidays, it is like returning home. Singapore has been a home for me and my family. But nine days of the Singapore opposition party rallies have dissipated this feeling. I have been made to feel like a complete foreigner who should be deported immediately. Suddenly, I feel an atmosphere of loathing towards my family and me although it may not be real. The opposition seems to have targeted residents like me systematically and I feel like a scapegoat. 3. Last year, 85 cars were stolen in Singapore - or one car every four days on average. These cars are often left unlocked or with their keys in the ignition, making them easy targets. Older vehicles are especially susceptible because their worn-out locks make them easier to break into. RELATED LINKS ONE CAR STOLEN HERE EVERY FOUR DAYS Last month, a car at a multi-storey carpark in McNair Road in the Boon Keng area was stolen. The owner had parked his Toyota Vios on the third storey at 8am and returned that same night to find it missing. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_706182.html
  4. http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/100...campro-cps.html Apparently someone is trying to revive the good old days those 1.6L engines, now using a SP4H. 169HP on the wheels is sure impressive (around 200HP on the crank) for a 1.6L engine. There is a pic of the engine on page 2. I think the extractor is very nicely done up.

  8. I came upon this science textbook of a Primary 2 sch kid..out of curiousity, I flip thru the pages and was surprised that the content is pretty chim for a kid sia. Then I wonder, can the kids brain handle and digest it ? Does MOE assumes that humans born in the 60s and 70s are inferior to those born in 90s and beyond ? As such come up with chim chim standards in the textbooks.

So have been contemplating in adding fog light if it does help. Hopefully bros/sis here can give me some tips on whether it helps or not. Considering to ask my AD on the cost of adding one. Thanks

  12. Smelly Gambler Doesn't Bathe For 6 Days in an attempt to Stink the crouipers into submission... A Singaporean retiree spent six days straight gambling at the tables of Resorts World casino last month. That includes going without showers or change of clothes for her marathon casino sessions, as well as just "coffee and Milo" to keep her going. After all, she slept roughly just four hours a day during her gambling binge. The New Paper reports that Madam Alice Tan, 64, lost $12,000 over the six-day session. The mother of four also revealed the reason why she refused to shower and insisted on going to the casino day after day: a fortune teller had told her she would strike it rich as her "fortune star would be at its brightest" a week before Chinese New Year, which fell on Feb 3 and 4 this year. "No need for fresh change of clothes; I just wet the towel, clean-rub and then use the deodorant," she said. "What for (use shower facilities)? It may wash away my luck. Anyway who cares about smell because most times I'd be on the smoking floor since I smoke," she said. "Instead of fresh underwear, I just change panty-liners," she added. She also told the paper that her six-day binge was her longest ever and most times, she would spend only "two to three days maximum at either RWS or Marina Bay Sands." She also revealed how she only needs an hour's nap a day when gambling and can sleep anywhere in the casino, including her own car or along the casino's walkways. When she's "really too tired", she would move from the gambling tables to the jackpot machines which "no need to use brain power... just hit the button and depend on luck". Otherwise, her favourite game was baccarat and that she usually bet between $500 to $1000 per hand. She set her loss limit at $20,000 per trip. Madam Tan, who lives in a four-room HDB flat in Simei, said her eldest son -- an architect -- paid the annual $2,000 membership for her at both RWS and MBS. She also gets a monthly allowance of $5,800 from her four children. Despite being on a losing streak since last July, she said she "can still afford it" and as long as she doesn't gamble on credit, "I won't have to worry about running up debts". When contacted, her eldest son said he and his three siblings "are aware of and don't mind our mother's hobby." Madam Tan is part of a group of punters who can spend days on a gambling binge. Just last month, a South Korean research fellow from the National University of Singapore was thought to be missing only for it to be revealed later that he had spent 16 days straight at MBS and had never left the premises.
  13. Might be doing research or testing his theory for his next thesis on "Gambling network resources and performance". The uni should award him for his 116% dedication by immersing fully in his research work! SINGAPORE - A governance expert who went missing has had to pay a price for his own lack of self control. South Korean national Lee Pan Seop was last seen at the casino in Marina Bay Sands (MBS) at 3am on Feb 22. He did not show up for work that morning and did not answer his mobile phone. His worried friends then lodged a missing person's report. The New Paper reported on Tuesday that Dr Lee never left the premises of MBS during the 16 days that he was missing. The 35-year-old with a PhD in international business from Korea University - who worked for the Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organizations (CGIO) at the National University of Singapore - has finally learnt the cost of his gambling spree. Dr Lee is 'no longer under the employ of the university', a spokesman said yesterday, declining to comment further on the situation. According to CGIO's website, Dr Lee's PhD thesis was on business network resources and performance. His thesis showed that a company's knowledge base and capability could be upgraded as a result of network participation. His research interests include inter-company network and performance, entrepreneurship and strategy. Dr Lee, a former research fellow at CGIO, went to the MBS casino on Feb 22 with a friend. His friend filed a missing person's report on Feb 28 after he failed to turn up for work for several days. An MBS spokesman declined to confirm that Dr Lee was gambling at its casino during that period, saying: 'It has always been our policy not to comment on our guests, without their approval.' 16. By Brett Michael Dykes From Yahoo! blog The Upshot A construction crew in the south-central Chinese city of Changsha has completed a 15-story hotel in just six days. As the United States and China battle over the finer points of currency manipulation at the G-20 summit, American negotiators may want to take note of this startling testimonial to the productivity of Chinese workers: A construction crew in the south-central Chinese city of Changsha has completed a 15-story hotel in just six days. If nothing else, this remarkable achievement will stoke further complaints from American economic pundits that China

  18. I think I just saw the latest breed of TP WRX. No markings except for 'Police' on both sides, NO light bar except for a little detachable rotating one plus the usual flashing lights behind the front grille. Other than that, it looks like an innocuous white civillian WRX...BE WARNED! Anyone else seen it before? I just saw it this morning @ 1005hrs with a black Vios stopped in front of it along Eunos Link in front of Eunos Technolink. The officers were copying down the driver's particulars. Sorry I wasn't able to take any pics of it...would've really loved to...bloody good disguise...you won't be able to tell it's a TP WRX from behind...I couldn't!

  22. http://www.todayonline.com/Business/EDC100...ino-over-3-days INGAPORE - In what is said to be one of the biggest losses yet at a Singapore casino, a local businessman lost $26.3 million over three days of gambling in June. This included a staggering $18 million that he burned in one day alone, playing baccarat - a card game - at $400,000 a hand. According to documents that Today has obtained, the businessman's tale of woe began in March, just weeks after Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) opened, when he was granted a credit line of $500,000 by the casino. The Singaporean, who is consulting a top local law firm about possible legal action against the casino, claimed that the casino at no time performed any background checks on his credit-worthiness or his financial capacity. He had simply filled in an application form, deposited $100,000 and handed over a signed blank cheque, he claimed. Subsequently, in April, the casino increased his credit line to $2 million, he told his lawyers. In his 50s, the businessman is a managing director of a multi-million-dollar company. Over the weeks, he reportedly won or lost several hundred thousand dollars each time he visited the casino, with his losses running as high as $6 million in the course of a single session. To draw on his credit line, he said, he signed a form and was given the requisite amount of chips. In early June, he made his biggest loss of $18 million yet in one session. Two days later, he went back to the casino and recouped some $3.7 million - but then two days after, he lost a further $11 million. At one point during this third session when his losses crossed the $4-million mark, so the businessman claimed, his girlfriend started crying and pleaded with one of RWS' senior officers to stop providing him with more chips on credit. The same officer, he claimed, had repeatedly assured him over the course of the gambling sessions that the casino was prepared to extend him further credit, even though his limit had long since been exceeded. Of his $26.3 million loss, the businessman repaid $10 million almost immediately. The businessman claims to have then met with RWS chief executive Tan Yee Teck, who offered him a "rolling figure" - which amounts to a discount - of $3.3 million. According to the legal documents, dated July 22, the gambler owed RWS some $13 million at that point in time. It is unknown if the debt has since been settled. When contacted, an RWS spokesperson said the group does not comment on its customers. The businessman's lawyers have advised him to explore if an amicable resolution can be reached with the casino. But they also think he may have a case of negligence, breach of contract or breach of statutory duty against the casino. Under the Casino Control (Credit) Regulations, an operator who enters into a credit agreement with a patron should, apart from specifying a credit limit, develop and implement criteria to assess the patron's creditworthiness. The operator must also have approval procedures for any increase in the credit limit. In the lawyers' view, by substantially exceeding their client's earlier limits - by more than 60 times the original limit of $500,000, and 15 times the April limit of $2 million within a few hours to enable him to continue gambling "RWS had encouraged irresponsible gambling and had breached the duty of care owed to" the businessman. RWS' conduct of continuing to pile on credit effectively rendered the concept of a credit limit meaningless, the lawyers argued. This was more so as the person in question was not in the proper frame of mind to decide on the increases, they said. In other countries, there have been several instances of patrons suing casinos for their losses, cases which the courts have dismissed. Courts in other jurisdictions have noted among other things, that the casino was not bound to protect a gambler from his desire to wager his wealth. Despite this, the Senior Counsel from the local law firm recommended writing to RWS. "In the letter, the issues concerning RWS' failure to promote responsible gambling ... can be raised. Hopefully, this may encourage RWS to offer a haircut that would be acceptable to you ..." he wrote. Genting Singapore's turned in a sterling net profit of $397 million for the quarter ended June 30, compared to a loss of $50.7 million a year ago. Revenues rose to $979 million from $120 million a year ago. According to DMG Research, at the current rate, Singapore is already the second largest casino market in Asia after Macau, and could overtake the Las Vegas strip as the second largest casino market in the world after Macau in the next two to three years. The firm estimates that the two casinos here rake in over $16 million a day.
  23. It wasn't that long ago that HDB gave real subsidies for the purchase of a public flat cos their mission statement was to build affordable public housing and ensure everyone has their own home. If land and building costs was $100K they sold for less than that. Now that was a real subsidy. Anyway, most land were acquired by the govt cheaply or it was in their hands all along. Effectively HDB did not suffer financially. I dun even know when they suddenly made a 180 degress turn and converted to giving "market" subsidy instead. Land and building costs may have increased to $200K but hey, the neighbouring block is selling at $400K so letz offer the BTO flats at $300K, and yes we are giving a "market" subsidy of $100K. Effectively HDB should be making lotz of money but somehow they can report books in the red. The sudden change actually affected all citizens of Singapore but I dun remember seeing this change of national policy being put on the table for discussion or feedback. What happened? I miss the HDB of old ...........................
