Several police officers, including crime scene investigators, were seen canvassing the neighbourhood and collecting evidence at the house located along Victoria Park Road when The Straits Times arrived at the scene earlier. A large blue police tent had been used to cover the woman's body, which was lying on the wooden deck by the side of the swimming pool in the upscale bungalow. No details were available as to what caused the death of the woman, but The Straits Times understands that the case has been classified as an "unnatural death" and investigations are still ongoing. Madam Selvi Narayanasamy, 45, has also withdrawn her civil suit seeking compensation for the death of her son Dinesh Raman Chinnaiah, bringing the saga to a close. The amount of money paid to Madam Selvi in the settlement is confidential. Dinesh, then 21, had died of breathing problems while being placed chest down and left in an isolation cell on Sept 27, 2010. He was restrained after he kicked a prison warden on Sept 27, 2010. The coroner's inquiry into his death was discontinued after senior prison officer Lim Kwo Yin pleaded guilty last year. The officer was fined $10,000 for causing death by negligence. Madam Selvi filed a judicial review challenging the coroner's decision not to continue the inquiry into her son's death shortly after but that was dismissed by the High Court in October last year. She appealed and arguments were heard earlier this month before the three-judge Court of Appeal, which reserved judgment. On Wednesday, Madam Selvi's lawyer M. Ravi told the appeals court that "parties have arrived at an amicable settlement" and she was withdrawing her appeal. Senior State Counsel Tai Wei Shyong had no objections. Madam Selvi was not in court but Mr Ravi said she was "quite happy" with the settlement. "It's also a closure for her. She has decided to move on with her life," he said. "She felt vindicated when her rights were ventilated before the High Court and Court of Appeal."

When The Straits Times visited the park on Wednesday morning, at least 300 white-coloured fish about a foot long each were seen floating on a 200m stretch of the river close to Bishan Road. Many were decomposing under the hot sun. Cleaners were seen wading through the river gathering the fish. Residents said that they spotted the dead fish at about noon on Tuesday. Many long-time residents said this was the first time they had ever witnessed mass fish deaths in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. A TransCab taxi driver was killed in a crash between his vehicle and a private bus at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 on Wednesday morning. The bus driver, who wanted to be known only as Chong, said the cab was trying to turn right from Ang Mo Kio St 22 to Ave 3. His bus, which was ferrying five to six workers to work at a factory in Ang Mo Kio, was going straight on Ave 3 at the time. Mr Chong, a Malaysian who has been driving in Singapore for four years, claimed he had right of way at the junction. He added that he did not know if the taxi would keep on travelling in his path. Both of them hesitated, said Mr Chong, and when he decided to go ahead, the taxi did too. His bus slammed into the driver's side of the taxi, denting the door inwards. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said they received a call about a traffice accident at about 6.21 am. The driver of the taxi was trapped and rescued by the SCDF within 10 minutes. Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel retrieved a man’s body out of the Singapore River on Thursday afternoon. The body was found in the river near 20 Upper Circular Road, according to an SCDF spokesman, adding that they were alerted at 3:53pm. SCDF sent one fire engine and one ambulance to the location, after which, the body was manually retrieved using a rescue line. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the police, who were alerted at about 3:51pm, the man is in his 60s and was found motionless at the said location. The case has been classified as “unnatural death” and investigations are ongoing, they said. According to an eyewitness, the body was found in the river facing JUMBO Seafood Restaurant. The eyewitness, Ahmad Jihadi, 25, who works at a nearby club as a sound engineer, saw about five SCDF and eight police officers at approximately 4pm at the said location. Three SCDF officers retrieved the body out of the river at about 4:15pm and took about 30 minutes to do so, Ahmad said. He also said that the body appeared to be that of an old Chinese man wearing long black pants and a light brown shirt unbuttoned at the chest. The eyewitness also said that after the body was taken out of the water, it was placed withing the police tent that was set up in front of the seafood restaurant. Noazita Abu Talib, 37, was shot once in the face with a pump-gun in the 6.20pm incident. It is learnt that the victim was opening the door to the vault when she was shot. Noazita was a mother of two and had been working at Ambank for 16 years. The security guard, who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash on a motorcycle, has been identified as a 37-year-old Sabahan with a fake IC. Subang Jaya deputy superintendant Tan Ah Chua was at the scene when contacted and confirmed the incident. But he declined to elaborate further. State deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the suspect was armed and considered to be dangerous, cautioning the public to stay vigil. Meanwhile, police are looking for Ardi Hamza whose last known address is 70, Jalan Apas, Batu 2, Tawau, Sabah to facilitate investigations. Police said that a 28-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing. The Straits Times reported that the girl apparently had two stab wounds to the front of the torso area and that the woman who was arrested was understood to be the maid. A female neighbor that spoke to the broadsheet said that shrieks were heard coming from the flat at 856B Tampines Street 82 at around 12pm. A spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they received a call for assistance at 1pm. Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced the female individual dead at the scene.

At least two other people were injured as the gunman fired randomly on other vehicles on a freeway, before he shot and killed himself near the city of Orange, south of Los Angeles. The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Ali Syed, who was unemployed, had no criminal record, and was living at home with his parents and taking a class at a local college. In all there were three murders and five attempted murders. The motive for the attacks was being investigated, said Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino, in an afternoon update on the early morning shootings. He described Syed as "kind of a loner (who) doesn't have a lot of friends." The first killing was a woman found dead in the early hours in Syed's family home in Ladera Ranch. The woman was not known to his relatives, and police said they were working to identify her. Syed then fled in an SUV, and "multiple incidents" occurred as he drove to nearby Tustin, about 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles, said Tustin police department spokesman Paul Garaven. In one of the first carjackings, Syed appeared "very polite" as he walked up to a gas station customer. "I don't want to hurt you. I killed somebody and today's my last day. Give me your keys," he told the customer, according to Tustin police chief Scott Jordan. He then took the man's car and drove onto a nearby freeway, where he stopped and opened fire on passing vehicles, trying to get another car. That's the question on the minds of investigators following the recovery of the six-year-old's decomposed body near Kampung Sungai Sireh. Police are actively looking for clues into the case and re-examining all angles to find out how he died and how his body ended up near a jetty in Port Klang. Among the theories are that his body floated about 30km down the Klang river from Kampung Bukit Lanchong after being thrown into it. There is also speculation that the boy could have wandered off, fallen into a monsoon drain and ended up in the river. However, there are no such uncovered drains where he was reported missing and the closest link to the river is about two kilometres away. Although William's parents Yau Kok Kang, 32, and Goh Ying Ying, 26, identified his body based on the shorts and underpants he was wearing and scars on his head, police are still awaiting DNA test results, due to be released on Monday, to be 100 per cent sure. "Post-mortem results could not determine the cause of death because the remains were too badly decomposed," Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli (pic) said. "But we have established that he had been dead for about a week, based on the level of decomposition," he said at the Subang Jaya police headquarters yesterday. ACP Yahaya said there was no sign of external injuries except for some bite marks, believed to be inflicted by animals.
