  1. Man City's Robinho in swap deal with Barca? hate to see this kinda news leh... if this really happens in Jan... 1. poor old Puyol and Henry Puyol - loyal fierce captain and one-club man of Barca... come on, let him go on another couple of years and retire proudly at Barca! dun be like Real Madrid last time when they treated Hierro badly Henry - give that guy some dignity lah... he may be old and lost some pace, but at least he helped Barca to clinch the historic treble last season... at least let him go back to Arsenal or France on the free.. 2. Robinho what can i say about this guy? he's talented, but his character and attitude are questionable... he left Santos for Real (fine, coupled with the reason that his mother was kidnapped in Brazil) then he cried to leave Real for being "treated" unfairly... and he's reported to think he's joining Man Utd instead of Man City... well at Man City, now he wants to engineer to move to Barca after the team is being built around him... dun buy him Barca! he will lead the Brazilians in the team to party all night [sly] (forgot Ronaldinho?)
  2. Checked with PML and here is their feedback. 1. COE Promo: Must take up 90% loan, at 3.5% (COE valued at $20k), no over trade. 2. Standard package: 90% loan at 2.5% + 11k over trade. So is the COE promo a good package???
  3. Currently my colleague is engaged with her girlfriend. They have bought a resale 4 room flat, taking the $30k HDB grant. Renovations are on going and they are supposed to register their marriage in Dec. Payments for the flat has started 3 months ago, each paying 50% of the loan. However, both discovered that they are not suitable for each other. Worse still, the girl is now seeing another person and my colleague is distressed. He claims that he will have to pay HDB a large sum of money and be sued breach of contract. He can't sell the house due to min occupation of 5 years. Is there any way out to sell the house, return the grant and lead separate lives without being sued. bankrupt and jailed? They have both seen marriage counsellors and even the professionals feel that they should reconsider their choices. Any one know the exact penalty or have friends who went through the same thing?
  4. 5 reasons why STTA did not nominate Liu Are the five reasons valid? Here is some comments from people like SNOC vice-president Dr Tan Eng Liang and plastic surgeon Dr Woffles Wu Thu, May 07, 2009 AsiaOne Below is a sampling of comments from ex-national table tennis coach Mr Liu Guodong, Singapore National Olympic Council vice-president Dr Tan Eng Liang, well-known plastic surgeon Dr Woffles Wu, the sports community and the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA). FAVOURED THE WOMEN? Liu Guodong: I achieved my mission. I got Singapore a medal and saw Singapore's flag raised on the competition arena. Dr Tan Eng Liang: It is obvious that this was a strategy. By getting a medal, Liu Guodong had achieved his mission and due credit should be given to him. Dr Woffles Wu: The viewers aren't fools. They can tell that the men's team is weaker even from the TV screen. Sports community: In the masterplan to win Olympic medals, it was clear that the chances of the men's team winning were slimmer than those of the women's team. As a result, more funds were allocated to the women's team than to the men's. Liu Guodong had to work with these restrictions, so he didn't do anything wrong. STTA: As the head coach of the national team, he once told the media that he would rather see the women's team finish second and the men's team in the top 16 than see both teams finish in fourth place. It is clear he did not give equal consideration to both teams. NOT RESPECTED? Liu Guodong: Do my players not respect me? To be a coach means to make demands of the players. Dr Tan Eng Liang: Liu Guodong's training was serious and he forbade his players from fooling around. Everyone followed his training instructions. In my time working together with the table tennis team, I never felt the players did not respect him. Dr Woffes Wu: A coach is not hired to be liked by people. Sports community: Some players did not want to train and had disciplinary problems, so as the coach he had to step in. Friction among the players is not a new problem and has little to do with Liu. On the other hand, something would be wrong if all players liked their coach. STTA: Association president MS Lee Bee Wah, in an earlier reply to the media, said: "If you ask the six players (who competed at the Beijing Games) if he is deserving of the Coach of the Year, less than half will agree." CHARACTER PROBLEMS? Liu Guodong: What is wrong with my character? I would like to challenge those who say this. Dr Tan Eng Liang: We worked closely with the table tennis team in the 10 months before the Olympics. We not only saw Liu's ability, but also his commitment and sense of responsibility. A member of the sports community: When the STTA wanted to extend Liu Guodong's contract, there were no questions raised about his character, and it was Liu who decided not to extend his contract. Why is it that problems appeared in his character when the call for nominations for Coach of the Year were called one to two months later? It would appear that even if there was a problem, it could not have been a serious one. Another member of the sports community: If there was a problem with Liu, shouldn't it be revealed to the public for the sake of accountability? The STTA's current claim seems too far fetched and could scare off coaches from working for us. This has a great impact on Singapore. STTA: A Coach of the Year should not just achieve good results, but also have good character. LACKED PROFESSIONALISM? Liu Guodong: I have no ulterior motives in leading the team and I will not do anything to let Singapore down. Dr Tan Eng Liang: If the STTA uses the "Gao Ning incident" to say that Liu Guodong is irresponsible, then it is unfair. After our investigations, we have found out that this was an unfortunate incident. Also, the issue has been laid to rest. Sports community: It was after our women's table tennis team had clinched the silver medal that Liu Guodong told the media: "We had no way of beating China." This is an honest account of the situation. He also said that our women's team is the strongest team outside of China and had done its best in the final. In what way is it wrong of the coach to say this? STTA: In nominating for the Coach of the Year award, results are just one consideration. Professionalism and other criteria must also be considered. LACKED LEADERSHIP ABILITY? Liu Guodong: It is out of the coach's control when players do not get along. As the coach, I've done all I can to mediate. Dr Tan Eng Liang: During the preparations for competition, there were many cases of players not getting along. They were all resolved in a firm manner by Liu Guodong. Also, if the women's team won the Senior Team of the Year award, why is it that the coach behind them does not deserve the Coach of the Year award? Sports community: If the coach did not have leadership ability, would the women's team have gotten the silver medal? Liu Guodong was nominated for the Coach of the Year award in 2007 but he unfortunately did not get it. In 2008, besides leading the women's team to the silver medal, Liu also achieved breakthroughs in other areas. Do his achievements in 2008 not match up to those of 2007, such that Liu is not deserving of a nomination? It is hard to understand this. STTA: A good coach should be able to unite the team.
  5. Hi Bros, Recently I've found a civic 2.0L on SGcarmart belonging to a direct seller (the ad is still there BTW) which I found in a good condition. I viewed the car and placed a $1k deposit with the seller, but at the same time, an agreement was signed that goes as follows: This document is to proof that a cheque (cheque number: xxxxxx) with the sum of $1000.00 (one thousand) Singapore dollars has been made out from buyer (I/C: xxxx), to seller (I/C: xxxxx), as deposit for the following car: Honda Civic 2.0L (A) Vehicle number : SGNxxxxD Chassis number : xxxxxx Engine number : xxxxxxxx Original Registration Date : 27 Nov 2006 Selling price : $xxxxx Singapore dollars Deposit : $1,000 Singapore dollars Amount remaining : $xxxxx Singapore dollars This is agreed by both parties on the 12th of April, 2009 as signed below. The arrangement was that I would not be taking any financing and paying the full amount in cash. But for the seller, the amount owed to the bank is more than the amount he sold me the car for and therefore he has to top up cash to claim the car. Initially all was going well and the agreeed transaction date was fixed on the 22nd of April. Due to work commitments, I had to leave for overseas until the 16th thursday. When i called him on the 17th, he reconfirmed that the transaction date is going to be still on the 22nd. Since he told me this, i went on to buy the insurance for the car and HDB parking. The insurance company issued me a cover note (i bought from MSIG direct) and told me to drop them a call once the transfer has taken place so that they can effect the insurance. Last night, the seller suddenly dropped me a call at night and told me that they would be at my place in 10 minutes to discuss some matters. Upon arriving, they told me that they are very "stressed" by the whole transaction and they want to call off the deal. They brought along the deposit of $1k to return to me as well as another counter agreement which i did not take or sign. I told them straight in the face that calling off the deal because of stress is a very lame excuse, and that they are contractually obligated to sell the car to me as stated in the agreement. Due to this, I called up a dealer friend who agreed to help me act as the middleman (for a fee of course). I told him about this and how it will simplify matters for both parties. Although he sort of agreed to meet up today at the dealer, his reaction then was lukewarm. When i told him to bring along the bank statement which states the amount he owes to the bank to the car dealer today to speed up matters, he disagreed saying that the dealer can obtain it from the bank. Well obviously he is trying to make things difficult and most likely, this guy probably has a better offer from someone else after my deposit was placed. Now i am have several options: 1) engage a car dealer to act as a middleman for the transaction. 2) forget about the deal and seek for compensation. (What can i claim for?) Any advice from brothers that encountered such sellers before? What should i do with the HDB parking and insurance? Thanks.
  6. from soccernet -> Benitez signs new Liverpool dealBy Soccernet staff March 18, 2009 Rafael Benitez has signed a new five-year contract at Liverpool, ending a 17-month power struggle with the club's board. The future of the former Valencia boss, who led Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005, had been in doubt since he revealed in January that he had rejected the club's first offer of a new contract. Reports suggested that control over the Reds' transfer activity proved to be the sticking point for Benitez but the Merseyside club announced on Thursday evening that a new deal had been agreed that should keep him at Anfield until June 2014. "My heart is with Liverpool Football Club, so I'm delighted to sign this new deal," Benitez said. "I love the club, the fans and the city and with a club like this and supporters like this, I could never say no to staying. "I always made clear I wanted to be here for a long time and when I complete my new contract it will mean I have spent over a decade in Liverpool." Benitez took over in 2004 and despite failing to end their wait for the top-flight title stretching back to 1990 he has re-established Liverpool as a European powerhouse, adding a final appearance in 2007 to the triumph two years earlier. The 48-year-old said: "The club is greatly respected around the world due to its incredible history and tremendous heritage. It is my aim to uphold those values and help create a new chapter in our history. "Throughout this process, I would like to thank the owners for their hard work in finalising the deal. All of us at the club want the same thing, which is to be successful by winning major trophies." Last week Liverpool reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 5-0 aggregate rout of Real Madrid and on Saturday, Benitez's men thrashed Premier League leaders Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford. "It is wonderful news Rafa has made a long-term commitment to the club," American co-owner Tom Hicks said. "Since he became manager he has been responsible for the great progress we have made. "I know he will continue to build on his achievements as he has a tremendous hunger and desire to bring more success to the club, success our fans and everyone connected with the club deserves." As well as winning the Champions League, Benitez also lifted the FA Cup with Liverpool in 2006. Co-Chairman George Gillett added: "With Rafa continuing to manage the team, we can look forward to more great football and success on the pitch. He has special abilities and qualities which are admired here at the club and around the world. "Coming after our excellent wins over Real Madrid and Manchester United, this gives us great momentum going into the final stages of the season." It is no surprise that Benitez agreed his new contract within a couple of weeks of chief executive Rick Parry's announcement that he would be leaving the club in the summer. The two have had a sometimes strained relationship, with Benitez angry that many of his transfer negotiations seemed subject to the chief executive's opinion. He had criticised the slowness of some deals, in which players he wanted were lost, with the key issue being the failure to sign Gareth Barry last summer, when the club refused to match Aston Villa's reported

  9. After living in low floor HDB unit, I realized that there are motorcyclists that for some unknown reasons, like to park at void decks and along the side roads. I'm ok with them initially but I soon realized that every morning and night when these motorcyclists started their engines, it was loud and disturbing. not to mention those exhaust . I just wondering why they don't park their motorcycles in the nearby MSCP? and for months, I don't see any law enforcers coming here to raid them . On an average, you will see about 4 bikes that parked underneath of my unit at night. One of them is even my next door neighbour and I suspect that he is working in our those law enforcemen agency. Is parking fee for motorcycles really that expensive? What should I do? report them? film them, photo them? who should I report them to? Thank you. Regards,

  15. Today met a friend and he just collected his Civic 2.0 few days ago. He told me he got 2.0L instead of 1.8L as goodies far outweighted the cost of extra cc for the 3k extra. (1). Better eqpt level like factory leather and slotted headrest and side airbag and bigger disc brake and VSA etc etc (2). lower insurance of $8xx for 2.0L instead of $13xx for 1.8L by AIG for his NCD level as not many ppl do claiming on 2.0L compared to many claims on 1.8L. (3). he got an extra 5k discount as an ex civic owner. This is even more as normally AD reward loyal customers with a $500 discount only. He claimed the 5K discount was a once-off promotion only as KM wanted to offload bigger cc Civic, and he paid total 73k for his 2.0L Civic. He was really lucky to have got this good deal, don't you think so?

  18. April 9, 2008 Teen given 12-month probation for abusing teacher By Elena Chong, Court Correspondent A YOUTH who swore at his teacher for confiscating his MP3 player in class was placed on 12 months' probation on Wednesday. Jeremy Tan Wei Liang, who turned 18 last week, will have to do 60 hours of community service and attend counselling sessions to address his anger management problem. His mother was bonded for $2,000 to ensure his good behaviour. Tan, who is working as a temporary construction worker, pleaded guilty earlier in January to using abusive words on a teacher with intent to cause her distress on April 26 last year. Tan's classmate was caught listening to music during class that day and the teacher promptly confiscated the player which belonged to Tan. Tan then confronted the teacher, who refused to return the MP3 player to him. He then used his finger to point at her nose and scolded her. He even went through her bag to search for it and continued hurling abusive words and vulgarities in Hokkien at her. Community Court judge May Mesenas told Tan to change his abusive behaviour. 'I hope this will be a lesson learnt for you,' she told him. Tan has since written a letter of apology to the teacher concerned. His mother, Madam Lim Hoon Har, told reporters outside court that her son made a mistake and had to bear the consequence. A happy and relieved Tan said: 'I feel better. I have changed.' 22. SHANGHAI/HONG KONG - Holders of China Eastern Airlines' Shanghai- and Hong Kong-listed shares on Tuesday rejected a deal to sell a 24 per cent stake in the country's third-largest carrier to Singapore Airlines for US$920 million. The announcement was made after a shareholders' meeting in Shanghai. China Eastern needed two-thirds of both its Shanghai-listed A and Hong Kong-listed H-share minority shareholders to approve the stake sale to Singapore Airlines and Singaporean investment agency Temasek Holdings. Majority shareholder China Eastern Air Holding Co abstained from the vote. The move opens the door to bigger rival Air China, whose parent, China National Aviation Corp (CNAC) - which owns 3.9 per cent of China Eastern - has said it would offer at least HK$5.00 per China Eastern share versus an agreed price of HK$3.80 in the Singapore deal. Singapore Airlines and Temasek have said they would not be prepared to return to the negotiating table or increase their offer, which was agreed with China Eastern last September. -- REUTERS
