  1. Advisable to wax after QD? After washing my car, I apply QD over the car to get ensure clean and smooth surface, wonder if a layer of wax over the surface can bond perfectly with the previous layer of QD. Im on 425 for the QD.
  2. i'm on my second white car now. white is a colour where regular detailing helps keep its whiteness very obviously. i'm on jeff werkstat prime acrylic and jett. quite long lasting and smooth. helps keep the dirt off. also using auto wet tissues to take care 'spot problems'... weekly wash, monthly detailing session seems to be a good routine. tried waxes but some turn sticky in days and collects dust faster. for those with white cars - what are your products/detailing routine ?

  4. After getting my car for 2 months, finally decided to wax my car for some shineness So today, wake up at 5.45 am. Gather equipment, I started at 6 am to wash my car with Turtlewax F21 (green liquid) car wash. Using a 3M sponge and turtlewax fibre cloth for drying. Then using a claybar and Meguiars quik detailer(red bottle, smell nice), I begin to claybar my car and dry off. Took me an hour. Realised there is some 'dents' on the paint caused by bird dropping and tree sap Waited for a while, I used the Meguiars NXT Spray Wax(purple bottle) for waxing. Read from here that this is also a sealant also. Spray a lot on the roof of my car and using a dunno what brand polish cloth, realised I spray too much. So i reduced the amount on other places. Then waited 5 minutes. Then buff off with another polish cloth. Very difficult to do so and i realised that the wax is still wet. So I waited for another 15 minutes and buff off again. Very easy now. However I seemed to find that the surface even though shiny now, does not look very smooth. What did I need to do to make it smooth? To all bro and sis, will polishing help in making it smooth? Or do I need to claybar with soap water instead with quik detailer?
  5. when is the next DIY detailing session?
  6. Hi, Just got my ride and someone intentionally scratched my car till the paint was chipped off... Thankfully, the arch is only the size of abt 1.5 - 2 cm. What can i do? Secondly, i asked most of my friendsand they told me only to wash the exterior with car soap. And maybe like 2 mths once send it to a polishing service... I know i like my ride clean and shiny so i did a search and i got very mixed opinions... Maddriver suggested i wash, polish, sealant then wax. What 's a sealant? and isn't polishing, waxing? Pardon my ignorance, i'm new to detailing... thks... really appreciate the help :)
  7. Finally got my PC working again, got up at 9.30am today to start my detailing session, and finished at 3.30pm. Thats rite, 6hrs non stop! My altis has some minor swirls mainly on the horizontal panals, no pic though.. Steps taken, 1) Wash 2) Yellow cutting pad + PC + Optimum Hyper 3) Green cutting pad + PC + Optimum Polish 4) FK2180 + application pad 5) FK1000P + application pad 6) Other misc touchups PC can't remove 100% of the defects, but at least 80-90% is good enuf for DIY. Didnt plan to take the pics at first, but might as well keep some memories of my hard work (Pics taken by HP cam)

  18. I found a wrapped, unused green bath towel(SAF!) while clearing the store, and saw the label that reads "Material: Terry Cloth". Looks like the SAF does detailing good. Even if it's of a bad quality, it could still be a decent cloth for windows/windscreen/interior.

  22. I personally polish and claybar 2-3 times a year. Frequency, pad choice, product and machine type will depend on paint condition. The surface is maintained with weekly washes followed by a layer of OCW. At the end of very month, I would do a CarLack68 Nano + #16 combo. I like this combo as the non abrasive chemical cleaners remove any bonded contaminants and leaves a nice sealant base for #16. Attached is how my MF applicator looks like after applying CarLack68 to a weekly washed and waxed car. The excessive amount of contaminants could be due to the fact that the car is park outdors most of the time.
