  2. May the Mazda driver rest in peace. ST 14/5 EARLY yesterday, as women across the world celebrated motherhood, Mr Alex Lim's mother watched her son die. The 30-year-old financial adviser had been in hospital since he was allegedly thrown off a taxi on April 9. Despite multiple operations, he never regained consciousness. Even if he had pulled through, he would probably have had to live with major disabilities. The tragedy was the result of what started out as a minor traffic dispute on the night of April 9. Mr Lim was driving his girlfriend home for dinner, but along Paterson Road, his red Mazda was involved in a minor collision with a taxi. Both drivers then parked along Scotts Road and got out of their vehicles. An argument ensued. Before it was resolved, cabby Lee Yuet Kong, who was carrying a passenger at the time, allegedly got back into his taxi and tried to drive off. Mr Lim, wanting to get Lee's particulars, stood in front of the cab, but Lee reportedly drove away, throwing him onto the bonnet. He later allegedly braked abruptly, causing Mr Lim to fall backwards and hit his head on the road. Lee, a 68-year-old relief driver, has been charged with causing grievous hurt with a rash act. As a result of the accident, Mr Lim's brain swelled so much that the pressure on his skull was believed to be more than six times that of a normal person. After he was warded, doctors operated on the right side of his head and cut out part of his brain. In a second operation, blood clots were removed from the left side. After doctors told the family Mr Lim's vital signs were weakening on Saturday night, about 60 to 70 friends rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He died two minutes after midnight, his girlfriend, 24-year-old Ms Yvonne Lin, said. At the wake yesterday, a 24-year-old cousin of Mr Lim said: 'Deep down in our heart, he's won the battle, fighting for more than a month. 'He fought all the way until past midnight on Mother's Day. That's the best present he could give,' she said. It is not known whether the charge Lee faces will be changed as a result of Mr Lim's death.
  3. Man in China dies after three-day Internet session Mon Sep 17, 2007 6:08 AM ET Loke like he engage in Xtreme 'sports'!!! BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese man dropped dead after playing Internet games for three consecutive days, state media said on Monday as China seeks to wean Internet addicts offline. The man from the southern boomtown of Guangzhou, aged about 30, died on Saturday after being rushed to the hospital from the Internet cafe, local authorities were quoted by the Beijing News as saying. "Police have ruled out the possibility of suicide," the newspaper said, adding that exhaustion was the most likely cause of death. It did not say what game he was playing. China, worried about the spread of pornography and politically incorrect content, has banned the opening of new cybercafes this year and issued orders limiting the time Internet users can spend playing online. In April, President Hu Jintao launched a campaign to rid the Internet of "unhealthy" content and make it a platform for Communist Party doctrine.

  5. As reported in Today New Paper, a 40 yrs old man dies at MacRitchie Reservoir whilst jogging with a group of friends on Saturday morning. He collapsed and lost consciousness. Two joggers stopped and performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. He was send to hospital but died one hours later. He is the sixth person to have died suddenly while exercising this year. Just two weeks ago, an army Captian age 25, died after completing 21km marathon. I remember those days when I was young, never think of health but enjoying ourself by swimming in the flood water, sucking "Ice Ball" with our bare hands after a game of "Hum Tam Bolah" or football at Farrer Park (never even wash our hands), running bare footed, catches salt water shrimps from fish pond & eat raw, ....etc. We don't suffer cardiac failure. Best still, eating half raw "Hum" or oyster by katties Never heard of Vitamin C, B+, D,.....etc during our times and the only things we know is eating all kinds of wild fruits pluck direct from trees or shrubs. Sometimes I wonder, are these helping us or causing us to be much weaker. Like my 2 chindren, the change of wheather pattern could easily get them to catch flu, cough or even fever. Had spend a lot on all kinds of vitamin pills and they are eating them since young. The question is : Are we becoming weaker after more health concious nowadays or simply are we over stress with our work and our children education?
