  1. 05 JUNE 2008 Revision Of Road Tax For Vehicles And Special Tax For Euro-IV Diesel Cars 1 As announced on 30 Jan 2008 and 15 Feb 2008, the road tax and special tax for vehicles will be revised with effect from 1 July 2008 as follows : a. The road tax for cars, motorcycles, taxis and commercial vehicles will be reduced by 15%. In addition, the road tax structure for electric and hybrid cars will also be revised; and b. The annual special tax for Euro-IV diesel cars will be revised from the current computation of four times of the road tax to $1.25 per cubic centimetres (cc) of engine capacity, subject to a minimum annual payment of $1,250. 2 The reduction in road tax is in line with the Government's on-going approach of gradually shifting from vehicle ownership costs towards usage measures to manage congestion on roads. The revision to special tax structure for Euro-IV diesel cars is made in recognition of the improved emissions of Euro-IV diesel cars with respect to both particulate matters1 and carbon dioxide, and the fuel efficiency of diesel engines. It also seeks to narrow the difference in the cost of fuel consumption between a Euro-IV diesel car and a petrol car. 3 From 9 June 2008, the LTA will indicate the revised road tax/special tax rates (payment for special tax is made together with the road tax) on the road tax renewal notices or GIRO payment schedules issued. LTA's [email protected] portal (www.onemotoring.com.sg) which operates from between 6am and midnight daily will also henceforth reflect the new rates. 4 Vehicle owners have received notices or GIRO payment schedules from LTA prior to 9 June 2008 but renew their road tax/special tax on or after 9 June 2008 will pay based on the revised rates for the licensing period from 1 July 2008. Those who have received their road tax renewal notices or GIRO payment schedules with the higher road tax/special tax rates indicated may refer to the aforesaid portal to find out the new rates. They need not request for a new renewal notice or GIRO payment schedule. Excess Road Tax/Special Tax Paid 5 There would be a number of vehicle owners who would have paid their vehicle road tax and special tax (if applicable) before 9 June 2008 based on the current tax rates for the period commencing 1 July 2008. In such cases, the excess amount paid would be indicated on the vehicle owner's next road tax renewal notice, and would be automatically offset from the next road tax/special tax payable. 6 If the vehicle is transferred before its next road tax renewal, any excess road tax/special tax paid will be used to offset the total transfer fees payable. Any remaining road tax/special tax, including any excess road tax/special tax paid, will be transferred along with the vehicle to the new registered owner. 7 If the vehicle is de-registered, any remaining unused portion of the road tax/special tax and excess road tax/special tax paid will be automatically refunded to the last registered owner of the vehicle. BUT...... Jan ERP News........ Increase the Initial ERP Charge and Rate Increment Motorists today are less sensitive to the rate structure which has remained unchanged since 1998. For ERP charges to remain effective in influencing motorists' behaviour, LTA will raise the incremental ERP charge from $0.50 to $1. In addition, the ERP base charge, which is the starting charge for a new ERP gantry point, will be increased from the current $1 to $2. These changes will improve the effectiveness of the ERP system, so that each time ERP rates are adjusted, motorists who still choose to drive on these roads would see a visible improvement in traffic flows. New ERP Gantries July 2008 - Operation of 5 new gantries along the Singapore River in the CBD The five gantries on the Singapore River Line will run roughly along the Singapore River from Clemenceau Ave to Fullerton Road, separating the commercial and shopping areas such as the Suntec area from the office-based areas such as Shenton Way/Robinson Road. These 5 gantries serve to reduce through traffic from using the city area for outbound trips in the evening, similar in concept to the Orchard Cordon where ERP was implemented to reduce through-traffic which would otherwise use Orchard Road to get to other areas. Traffic speeds on these roads are below the optimal speed range, based on the revised criteria. To better manage the speeds within the Orchard and CBD cordons, the ERP operation hours for the CBD will start from 7am to 8pm on weekdays. The ERP for Orchard Cordon will start from 10am to 8pm on weekdays. The 5 gantries on the Singapore River Line will come into operation on 7 July 2008, and will operate from 5pm to 8pm on weekdays. Two of the new gantries - namely Eu Tong Sen Street and Fullerton Road (towards Esplanade Drive) - will operate on Saturday from 10am to 8pm. The rate increase of $1 will be applied if the traffic conditions closer to July warrant it for each of the half-hour time slots. On Saturdays, the gantries at Eu Tong Sen Street and Fullerton Road (towards Suntec City), together with the existing CBD gantries north of the Singapore River Line, will help to demarcate the Bugis-Marina Centre Cordon as traffic conditions within this cordon have deteriorated below the optimal speed threshold. The Bugis-Marina Centre Cordon and the existing Orchard Cordon will operate during the same hours on Saturdays and will help in managing traffic in the City area on Saturdays. November 2008 - Operation of 6 new gantries on arterial roads and expressways Based on the new ERP criteria (i.e. 85th percentile speed measurement method), traffic speeds at 6 locations on arterial roads and expressways have fallen below the optimal speed range, and ERP is needed to manage the congestion that is building up at these areas. The new gantries will operate from 3 November 2008 onwards, and they are as shown below. 3 new gantries on roads along the Outer Cordon in the morning. LTA will be installing new gantries at the following 3 locations along the Outer Cordon to address the congestion on these roads, namely (i) Commonwealth Avenue; (ii) Jalan Bukit Merah; and (iii) Alexandra Road. 2 new gantries on expressways in the morning. One gantry is along AYE (westbound), near Alexandra Road, and the other is along PIE (westbound), near Eunos. New gantry on Serangoon Road in the evening. To address the congestion on Serangoon Road during the evening peak hours, LTA will be installing a gantry there. The operation hours and ERP rates at each of the 6 gantries above will be determined and announced closer to their implementation in November 2008 Implementation of New ERP Criteria and Rates on Existing ERP Gantries LTA will be phasing in the implementation of the new ERP criteria and new ERP rates on existing ERP gantries to allow time for motorists to adjust their travel plans. The new criteria will first be applied to the CBD and Orchard Cordon in July 2008 before being extended to other roads progressively. This will also allow for the impact of changes in the city area to work its way through the rest of the road network. If the new ERP rates in the CBD and Orchard Cordon result in fewer motorists driving on the roads leading to the city, ERP rates need not be adjusted if speeds do not fall below the threshold speed. The following is the schedule for the application of the new ERP criteria (i.e. 85th percentile speed measurement method and ERP rate increment of $1) on existing ERP gantries: A) July 2008 - to be implemented on gantries in CBD and Orchard Cordon (on weekdays) and Orchard and Marina Centre Cordon (on Saturdays). B) November 2008 - to be implemented on gantries on roads within and up to the Outer Cordon. Map showing the location of the Outer Cordon is given in Annex E C) February 2009 - to be implemented on all gantries islandwide Before the new ERP criteria is applied to the respective areas, LTA will continue with using the existing ERP criteria in the quarterly ERP rate reviews. Conclusion The main aim of the ERP changes is to keep our roads smooth flowing and ensure a high quality urban environment. We are putting a lot of effort into making public transport a viable alternative to driving and we hope that more motorists will give it a try." said Mr Yam Ah Mee, LTA Chief Executive. ERP islandwide . Better sell car liew
  2. Can anyone advise whether there are any adverse effects of using engine oils meant for Diesel engines, in petrol engines? Has anyone tried it? I'm tempted to try them out......
  3. Anyone knows what the distributors will be bringing in once the new tax for diesel engine cars kicks in come July 2008 ? http://app.lta.gov.sg/corp_press_content.asp?start=1889

    Diesel car?

Have any one heard of diesel car? Heard from radio 1003? Think is cheaper the petrol car.
  5. Saw it on today ST classified. 2L, 6speed auto, diesel powered C5 saloon and estate, with the estate going from $92,988. Is this the begining of diesel powered pessenger cars in sg?
  6. Europe has the most progressive environmental standards globally. With the widest range of DIESEL passenger cars on the road. Strictest emission standards. You would think that LTA would've realised the Europeans are onto something. What's the point of pushing CNG? - When the only place you can pump is on jurong island?? What's the point of expensive oil co. sponsored BioDIESEL trials? - Long drawn, on a limited set of expensive vehicles??? When the ANSWER is in our FACES. 500% tax for DIESEL Private Passenger Vehicles. Are we still living in the 70s? The average diesel car has easily 50% efficiency than its petrol counterpart. Is our dear COUNTRY slave to the oil cartels?
  7. We all know LTA are doing test to certify Euro diesel cars. In fact in Euro, diesel cars are out selling their petrol counterparts due to improved efficiency and high petrol prices. It is not uncommon for diesel car to get 40-50mpg compared to 30mpg for petrol cars. Moreover diesel is cheaper. Inside driving the modern diesels, you can hardly tell its a gas burner. Just that outside ppl will know its a diesel from its tickover. Assuming the diesel tax is lifted, would you buy a diesel for ur next car? Some Sg's may feel its some hesistation or lack of image driving a diesel, afterall is image not why we like to buy BMW's over Toyota's? So whats ur take?
  8. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...1211-40592.html Hope it could be implemented soon, petrol prices are killing drivers, but it seems that they are onli interested in bringing euro v diesel cars here
  9. For those who have ever wondered whether diesel will take over petrol engines. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/?p=4039
  10. with rising petrol prices, perhaps it might be more economical to maintain a diesel vehicle.. just saw this in lta website: "The diesel tax for Euro IV diesel cars is 4 times the road tax of an equivalent petrol-driven car." for non euro IV is 6 times. i just saw a Matrix 1.5l TD Euro IV online... or can we buy fiat doblio diesel and register as pte car paying higher road tax? worth it? any comments?
  11. Hi all, An interesting read for all. Hopefully this becomes a reality. If this day arrives, we should expect the arrival of diesel models from the European marques, including the Skoda TDI models. 12. Anyone ever tried to use veggie oil on diesel engines b4 in Singapore? Seems that it's getting common in Europe... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetable_oil_used_as_fuel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5IjzsgDll8&NR=1
  13. Any diesel-heads here can tell me where those OEM diesel pumps in the West/Central are located? Currently, I only know of 2 but they're both in the East/North-East. Willy Petroleum - Kallang Distripark Ah Huat - Defu Lane 7 And if anyone refers me to Eurovanclub, I'd already posted there but it was deleted because the information is only available in their forums open to registered members. Since I don't drive a Eurovan, registering (not free) will be pointless.
  14. Those who drive diesel veh, did you notice the poorer mileage on diesel with the existing 29% discount? My co. van delivered much lower mileage than usual when drinking 29% disouont diesel. Maybe less additives is added?
  15. Anyone here can confirm if petrol discount got went up?Heard that diesel discount went back to 27% this afternoon?Saw it at esso station.
  16. i know this sounds abit stupid if some of ur see this.. but anyway, got intro into this method by one of a fellow MCFer driving a cabstar.. but then, he uses Shell 95.. i use Silver Techron (95) from Caltex.. i was just wondering if the petrol mix will make the consumption improve as the engine is "cleaned".. just want to try out as they (Caltex) say techron can clean the engine etc.. pumping full tank will give me a $100 bill .. so i tried a mixture.. with first the petrol followed by diesel as petrol is lighter.. just tried it out a moment ago, butt dyno shows that engine is smoother and quieter.. mileage on full tank of diesel (50L w/o reserve): 495km mileage with this mix will be shown to all when i have finished the tank.. appreciate comments from fellow bros.. especially those driving diesel vehicles or drove before..
  17. Just came back from New South Wales after driving around for 8 days covering 2,700km. Noted that from pump to pump, prices can vary considerably by more than A$0.10. But the most surprising discovery is that the diesel prices are higher than unleaded petrol and there is such thing as gas at half of diesel prices. Wonder what is the gas? The average premium petrol price is about A$1.20. Never drive in Sydney centre. Parking is very expensive and hotels don't provide free parking. Overnight parking can be A$16 and hourly parking can be as high as A$8 per hour. Driving in the city is also an agony as streets are short with traffic lights.
  18. Is it possible to buy a diesel veh without actually owning a business/coy of your own? is there a workaround somehow? like having a business (on paper) so that one can have such a veh? the $1 coe is tempting. (probably going to be couple of hundred next bid, no?)
  19. OK I think Diesel cars make sense in Singapore, despite the higher cost of the car and road tax. Pluses: - FC is 20-30% better than petrols - Engines are very high torque - perfect for Singapore Minuses: - A bit noisier - Smelly and oily when filling up. E.g. VW Passat 2.0 FSI Power 150PS at 6000 rpm Torque 200 NM at 3500 rpm Road Tax 1,600/year Fuel bill (20000k at 10km/l and 1.50/litre) 3,000/year VW Passat 2.0 TDI Power 140PS at 4000 rpm Torque 320 NM at 1750 rpm (wow) Road Tax 3,200/year (2x petrol) Fuel bill (20000k at 13km/l and 1.00/litre) 1,550/year Car costs $5k more (est.) So the road tax and fuel cost ens up about the same, give and take a few hundred. But with the diesel, you end up with performance of a 2.5 or 2.8 litre car!! (e.g. Merc E220CDI has 33% more torque than a E280)
  20. If LTA will relax the rule and allow private diesel passenger cars........this is a ride anyone may consider. Check out this webby: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/motoring...ande_punto.html
  21. HI I am driving a Vito CDI ( Diesel Turbo ) In SG got any diesel Tuner around But not GMax hor No Time waiting for that Guy Pls Enlight Many Thanks
  22. Though this thread is targeted at genie, i figured it would be good to post this up for everyones knowledge. As most here know, i sold my 180 and bought a 2nd hand jap import Sera (only been used in japan). anyway i was thinking of doing an engine flush as the 5E-FHE is very sensitive to poor oil flow. I do know the downsides of using engine oil flush and was thinking of using something that cleans the galleries at a slower rate (e.g. autoRX). Then it occured to me that diesel engine oils while being the same, have much more cleaning agents than our regular types. I have been told its safe for useage in cars, but i would like a confirmation from people who have either used it for an extended period of time or are knowledegeable in this field. Also does anyone know what the cleaning rate is compared to products like autoRX? Btw i do intend to use it for roughly 10000kms with both an oil and filter change at the 5000kms and 10000kms marks.
  23. This is the prob. Not again. Always have prob every quarter of the yr. Bought the car on 3rd feb 05. She never failed to fail me or perhaps the servicing. How sour can ths lemon be. I have had prob with my Optra(auto)since last week. Thought it was one off. But the same thing happened this morning. Both incidences happened after i wash my car and left it there for at least 5 to 6 hrs before i on the engine. Engine was never on before washing. Just usual washing, no splashing of water into the engine compartment. The 1st incidence was last sat when i started the engine. It roared for about 5 sec like an diedel powered car and reverted to the norm. Well thought that was one off Samething happened this morning. I washed her yesterday just as what i have done when i gave a her a good shower. The engine roared not only louder for about 5 sec, the RPM automotically rose to 1500 and hovered there for 10sec before lowering to slightly less than 1000RPM. Can smell unburnt fuel too.! My wife and i thought someone literally changed our engine to a diesel powered one. Any bro had similar occurence to their optra (auto)? i have previously Changed my throttle body twice and i hope this is not the 3rd time. The previous change was due to the following: 1) Just after my 1k servicing, engine stalled twice and i got it changed. Barely a mth 2) 5 days before my wedding on 6th feb 06, the RPM rose between 2.5 to 3 after i just started the engine from cool. RPM remains and self throttle up and down even before i sat into the car. For a moment i thought "something" was in my car. Same thing, unburnt fuel fouled the air and vehicle could not start momentarily after stepping on the accelerator. Only started moving after sec of delay. On the road, she max at 70km/hr and RPM remians at 3000. Everytime the car start from static, she just can't move until sec later. The engine seemed to roar and panting hard for air. Finally i reached starsauto UBI and got it fixed within a day. How worse can this be. From the unburnt fuel smell this morning, i just can't help to think the throttle body kapoot again! i used SPC 95 and milage only 17800km.
  24. Mercedes G Klasse G400 CDI V8 3,996cc 251 HP at 4000rpm 561 Nm from 1700rpm to 2600rpm 182kph 265/60 18" wheels 8km/l combined Look at that TORQUE! It can haul an SBS Bus. Buy this with a G plate since it is diesel and like a Land Rover. Chiong traffic lights with an STi side by side. Best of all road tax is lower.
  25. What are my options? I just went to autobacs at bukit timah and they say they don;t have compatible filters for my ride. Any high-flow or performance filter element will do. I'm hoping to increase the pickup a bit and have a filter I can DIY clean.
