  3. We have come across advertisements like the one above, from insurance or real estate companies in our local tabloids. Usually there is a picture with rows of agents whom are smiling and celebrating their success with the most business and obviously earning a large sum for commission. Visually similar to your annual school yearbook. Online insurance company DirectAsia.com has done the exact opposite. For its latest advertising campaign, they have featured happy customers, instead of agents in their spoof ads, with the phrase, "Insurance companies today seem to have a lot of happy agents. Quite frankly, we'd rather have happy customers.
  4. These billionaires made it to the Forbes list as some of the richest people in the world, but their choice of rides varies. For example, one house hardware entrepreneur drives a car that would only fetch about $1,500 (S$1,864), while a software mogul could sell his car for $4.4 (S$5.47) million. While some vehicles are considered dream rides others made the list due to the owners. Though the source of this article is new, it is unsure if these billionaires have changed their rides. 5. [extract] Not too long ago, Porsche announced its plans for a smaller-sized suv to accompany its Cayenne and expand its model line-up. Not much details were available at that time besides a rendered image of the car. Now, more technical news about the baby suv has been revealed. Many speculated the model name while some were certain that it would be named the Porsche Cajun, but the German automaker has given a different name all together-the Macan. Porsche explained the name to be derived from an Indonesian word meaning 'tiger' and expresses the

  9. Geezz, so we voted in 5 oppo members for fun? And from what I have witnessed, these 5 credible MPs have done a helluva job together with their NCMP counterparts, raising various bread and butter issues in the 1st Parliament. In particular, Chen Show Mao's speech in Chinese was both refreshing and very meaningful when he described oppo members today were like a loyal subject giving good advice to a emperor but unfortunately he was not appreciated and mocked at instead by the MIWs. Similarly Sylvia's plea to link our economic success to happiness was also scorned at by many ruling party folks including our new MND minister. If this is the new norm in Parliament then I feel sorry for the ruling party because they are still very confrontational with no stomach for alternative views. The PM better wake up his idea and not deem these honorable oppo MPs & NCMPs as trouble-makers. They are there for a reason and that voters are sick and tired of having the ruling party having the last word on EVERYTHING. How I wish 2016 can be around the corner... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1162543/1/.html Parliament's for "serious discussion, not just criticism" By Joanne Chan in Perth | Posted: 30 October 2011 1840 hrs PERTH, AUSTRALIA: Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said that Parliament is a place for serious discussion and not just criticism. Mr Lee added that Parliament is not just a place to hold either the government or opposition to account. Instead both sides should participate in solving problems together, or Singapore would be worse off for it. He was speaking to the Singapore media at the end of the three-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth on Sunday. Earlier this month, Singapore's Parliament sat for the first time since the May General Election, and members shared their thoughts on the measures needed for the country to prosper. Mr Lee said that while the opposition had put a lot of effort into their parliamentary speeches, it remains to be seen if they will participate in helping to solve problems. "This is not just a show, it's not just theatre. This (Parliament) is a place where we are discussing very serious business and where we have to make very difficult choices for Singaporeans on behalf of our voters," he said. "And I think as government, it's our responsibility to speak the truth to Singaporeans and I think it's the opposition's responsibility also to acknowledge the truth and to speak it, whether or not it's politically advantageous to them," added Mr Lee. On Singapore's economy, Mr Lee said that there are dark clouds on the horizon, referring to the latest report from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). The MAS report said that Singapore's economic growth will stall over the next few quarters before seeing a modest recovery late next year because the long-term structural problems in Europe will not disappear soon. Prime Minister Lee added that Singapore is also facing slowing growth because the economy is more mature. "For a developed economy, 3, 4% (growth) is not bad. Of course, we've been used to 5,6,7 (percent), or even more in the past, but it's a different phase. When you're an adolescent, you grow and shoot up inches every year. When you're mature you hope to grow, not necessarily taller but wiser and better," said Mr Lee. On the government's move to raise the minimum qualifying salaries for foreign professionals and skilled workers, Mr Lee said that the government knows it has been painful for employers. He added that accepting a lower growth rate is the price to pay for managing the population size in Singapore. Even with these challenges, Mr Lee said Singapore should not be too downbeat. He said Singapore hopes to have quality growth - improved productivity for better wages. Mr Lee also pointed out that he had met various leaders at CHOGM, all of whom expressed admiration for Singapore and said the country has done very well. Referring to his meeting with Western Australia's Premier Colin Barnett, Mr Lee said it is keen to develop links with Singapore. Mr Lee concluded that Singapore is "not doing badly", but can do better. On CHOGM which had focused on reforms, Mr Lee said it would not be easy to transform the Commonwealth. Calling the Commonwealth an "old boys' club" brought together by a shared history, he said members work together where they can but they also have disagreements. On the failed proposal to appoint a watchdog for human rights, Mr Lee said Singapore's support will depend very much on whether such a commissioner will be productive. The proposal for an independent commissioner on human rights, democracy and the rule of law was one of the reforms called for by an "Eminent Persons Group" that CHOGM itself commissioned two years ago to help it maintain relevancy. - CNA/ir

  12. Having read so many good things from DriftKing about his A168, would like to know from fellow forumers or Chinese car owners on whether they encounter any good or bad experiences with their cars? For the price you are paying is it worth the trouble, if any, etc. I am just trying to understand and prepare, if necessary, myself should the Chinese car dominance prophecy do come true. So far I have read some bad news from other forums like poor fc, boot cannot open, car "dies" going up slope, etc... Just for discussion sake. 15. Will you park with your top down? I often see convertibles/cabriolets (porsches/bmw/slk) parked with top down at Central, Paragon carpark. Aren't the owners afraid that thieves might break into their glove box or steal their HU/leather seats etc? Aren't the owners afraid that vandals may vandalise the interior of the car? Aren't the owners afraid that some people may climb into their car for a feel? What about you? Just want to find out.
  16. Hi All My fren got into this minor accident. But as a matter of principle for discussion, would like to know your learned opinions. Scenario: My fren traveling on a single lane, 2 way road, i.e. single lane in each direction with solid line in the middle. He wanted to turn into a HDB estate on the RIGHT side, i.e. have to cut across the road which traffic is coming in the opposite direction. When he make his turn, a bike slams into him, hitting the back door. The bike was actually trying to over-take him. My fren did NOT put on his signal. The rest is not important, ny fren got down and help him etc etc, injury to motorcyclist was minimal. Analysis: Who is more in the wrong? The only thing my fren did wrong is that he forgot to turn on his signal. Actually he told me look in the mirror see no one so tot not necessary to turn on, the biker must have been in his blind spot. To me the fault more on the biker (80%?) mainly cos: (1) the vehicle behind supposed to keep safe distance from vehicle in front which he obviously did not (2) it is very forseeable when a car in front of u slows down when approaching a turn that the reason he is slowing down is to make the turn (3) in trying to overtake my fren, biker was riding on the road that was coming in the opposite direction, i.e. riding against the flow of traffic - isn't dat worse than not turning on the signal? I m not sure but is it allowed to even overtake on a single lane road? I tot i remember cannot. In this scenario, although biker did not actually hit the rear of the car (bumper) but is also considered hit my fren from behind right? Cos he was behind my fren. Also, my fren is not obliged to check for vehicles on his right cos it is a single lane and he is already at the edge of the lane turning right, correct? Its not like lane 2 filtering to lane 1 then of course must check for on coming vehicles. Will insurance say due to my fren never on signal then is my fren fault? Can't be right? Cos thousands of ppl don't signal when they turn or change lane and if everytime that happens is grounds for an accident then i open car workshop liao. Anyway my fren workshop say 50-50 but i tink very unfair. i also used to be a biker and defensive riding is No 1 priority.
  17. Hi, for espresso machine owners, not Nespresso please, no offense intended to Nespresso. Espresso owners, your opinion, brand using, grinder. I'll start first, using a 3 group Faema with Anfim Doserless Grinder. Looking for a Single Group HX model now, E61 group head. I'd like your opinions. 1. Rocket Giotto 2. La Marzocco GS/3 3. Alex E61 Rotary 4. La Scala Butterfly 5. Expobar Brewtus III/V In no order of merit. Feel free to add into the list. I'm clearing off my 3 group to a friend of mine, who wants to "play around" with it. Not worth repairing, so I'm looking to downscale to a 1 group. All recommendations very much appreciated. Grinder wise, I already ordered a Mazzer Doserless. On the way. Old grinder also going to go.

  19. * Did not include Boon Keng and Simei DBSS as they are either unavailable now or ethnic quota has been filled. Apparently, there were quite a lot of 5 rm left. For Duxton, latest news mentioned about 111 units to be released later... Any bros here have bought any units over there? Any comments? Seriously considering this option as Resale HDB "COV" is way too out of proportion, Condo prices are equally crazy...
