  1. 1. Very often, we get to see heated debates and battles in discussion threads on topics such as use of hazard lights, road hogging and etc. Sometimes, someone just don't see things eye to eye with you . 2. So what do you do when provoked or when someone trying to belittle you in a discussion and how do you manage your frustration ? T Regards,
  2. May I know what is a comfortable budget for an entry level ICE newbie like me? What should I start off with first? Is it wise to upgrade stock to component speakers first? Or should we sp the car first to prep it for ICE? Really hope our discussion here can benefit budding ICE enthusiast in MCF. Cheers!

  4. hey was driving to work one day and saw an elegant OL (in her late twenties) stopped beside me at the traffic lights, driving a blue WRX Sti. I see liao makes me want to "rescue" her from the beasty machine and put her in a cute VW beetle. I donno, whenever i see such situation, i get very "excited", disappointed, helpless. I know i'm uttering rubbish. but i hope bros here get wat i mean
  5. Wondering is there any PSP fans here? I was surprised most workers working nite shifts near my place have one...cool man!
  6. Me and my fren just came back from KL. Fc for his Getz 1.4 A for ave speed of 110 to 130km/l is 13km/l with only one stop . It is worse than my old ah pek altis 1.6 A (17km/l) and my ex vios 1.5 A (18.7km/l). I thot that 1.4 should be more efficient than bigger cc car? Any comment? I also read from some where that the diesel Getz has very good FC as compared to Toyota Prius.

  8. This came up in Autoworld forums and there are some interesting things to note. Firstly look at the chart below: Monograde oils look very good right? The SAE30 has the lowest cylinder wear. Came from this page: http://www.eaa49.av.org/techart/str_oil.htm Here are some accompanying discussions on monograde oils in BITOG. http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultima...ic;f=1;t=011032 http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultima...ic;f=1;t=010021 However, it is proven that multigrade oil has the fuel economy advantage and this paper from SAE looks into it: 1991, (910742) "Direct Observation of the Friction Reduction of Multigrade Lubricants" Report said that multigrades have 20% less friction than monogrades for the top ring. An SAE30 will have a 40C viscosity of around 100cSt while at 100C it will be around 11cSt. Quite nice and thin. but looking at the temperature chart for ring temperature. The 10W30 will definitely be thinner when your car is cold after being parked the whole night at 25-30C. But from what I know, cars with SAE40 oil have no start up problems. Finally, if you test an SAE30 oil for cold temperature pumpability, it will come back as a 15W30. Yep, basically the magical 15W30 which you don't see selling is actually monograde SAE30 oil. So you would want to ask, where can I get an SAE30 oil? I'd say good luck. I've looked around and so far found SAE40 oil but no SAE30. It is also difficult to find monograde oil rated to SL. RP sells monogrades but rated to SJ and dealer doesn't bring these in. Amsoil has a nice SAE30 HD but I doubt anyone will bring it in. So help in trying to spot this oil would be great. Any brand will do and should be SL rated. Another thing about monograde oil is that they are usually dino oil. Very few synthetic monogrades are available and among are the two mentioned above (RP and Amsoil). If your car is an average grocery getter and would like the fuel economy benefit, stick to a multigrade like 10W30, but for turbocharged cars being driven around in the tropics like here and Malaysia, an SAE30 is right up that alley. No need to get thicker oil at 50wt. I would think an SAE40 will also do much better than a 5W40 for a turbocharged VW engine. It will definitely be more shear resistant than a 5W40. After all this is said, monogrades have a hard time fighting with multigrades because multigrades have more or less swamped the entire market everywhere.
  9. OK for all the suspension mod siao. I know about Titan Suspension. In case you don't know, they are custom suspension makers in Malaysia. Check the link: http://www.titansuspension.com/ I did mention them in a post in the earlier. Discussions abound with satisfied owners' rides here in zth forums: http://zerotohundred.com/...mp;hl=titan&st=0 Lots of cars from MBs, Alfas, BMWs to Peroduas and Protons have come to be fitted with Titans. There is a review by a zth forummer on the installation of Titans on his E30: http://www.zerotohundred.com/...topic=16947&st=0 An adjustable coilover custom coilover set costs RM3000 and a fixed seat height with stock springs are around the RM1800 range (horrible on corners as they say). Take time to read and form an opinion. Do you think it is worth a visit to them?
  10. Hi all, Juz saw the Sat ST ads posting new Jaguar at $133,000[shocked]. Anyone know what model izzit? How much is Jaguar servicing?
  11. I refer to this discussion in BITOG. The most interesting post is the one below by crossbow: So there you have it. It is not the filter usually. It is the components in the filtration system. The resonator and all those bendy parts. Keep to your paper filters. Cheap, no need to clean and oil and if you want CAI, remove resonator and use some ducting to replace it. Position it so that it has the least restriction for air to come in.

  14. I'm thinking of getting a mid to late 90s Subaru car. Most likely a Impreza.. Can someone comment on the reliability, common problems? The latest Impreza has 2.5 liter Boxter engine.. What about the 90s impreza?
  15. This is trivia but I found the following: Esso advertizing slogan is: "The Tiger in your tank" Esso actually is phonetics for S.O. or Standard Oil. Supreme Court broke up Standard Oil of New Jersy and it became Esso. Esso then later on is called Exxon. Standard Oil of New York became Mobil. They got back together to form Exxon-Mobil. Texaco advertizing slogan is: "Trust your car to the man who wears the star, the big, bright Texaco star" Pennzoil's trademark is the Liberty Bell with the name PENNZOIL running through it. Previously it was known as the oil with Z-7. What is Z-7, I don't know. Phillips 66 is an oil/petrol company in US. Has this motto: Trop Artic All Season Motor Oil Long Live Your Car How Mobil got to use the flying horse as their symbol: Vacuum Oil Co. created by the break up of Standard Oil in 1911 used the flying white horse. Standard Oil of New York = SOCONY and used a flying red horse in the '20's. SOCONY & Vacuum merged in '31 and used the red horse. SOCONY-Vacuum Oil Company used the brand name Mobil and the flying horse in '54. Strange oil company abbreviations in US which you never see here: Standard Oil of Ohio = SOHIO American Oil Company = AMOCO (has roots in Standard Oil of Indiana) Continental Oil Company = CONOCO Union Oil of California = Union 76 = UNOCAL Tidewater Associated Oil = Flying A Atlantic + Richfield = ARCO Now I can understand why GM cars are so chapalang! Even their oil companies are so chapalang!
