  1. Italdesign Giugiaro - more commonly known as Italdesign - is a design and engineering company based in Italy and since August 9th (National Day) 2010, Lamborghini acquired 90.1 percent of the shares to the firm - which by extension means it belongs to Volkswagen. Volkswagen and Italdesign go a long way and the design firm has been responsible for the design of several notable Volkswagen vehicles including the first generation Volkswagen Golf (1974), Volkswagen Scirocco (1974) and Volkswagen Passat (1973). Quite recently Italdesign revealed the Parcour crossover that is powered by Lamborghini. It was named after the modern sport of - pioneered by the French group Yamakasi. Parkour focuses on moving around urban obstacles with speed and agility - though basically to me they are modern day, very flexible ninjas. Either way, the Parcour car has a coupe and roadster variant which fuses elements of crossovers, sports cars and the sharp styling expected of a modern Lamborghini. In fact, paint it orange, slap a raging bull logo and christen it with the name of a famous bull - and we have a striking Lamborghini CUV. The coupe and roadster have enough room for two and are powered by a 542bhp 5.2-litre V10 engine lifted from the parent company's Gallardo. The engine is mated to a seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission that drives all four tyres on 22-inch rims. The concepts measure 4,530mm long, sit 2,070mm wide and stand 1,335mm tall and weigh just 1.5 tonnes. Italdesign believes the Parcour could hit 100km/h in a rather brisk 3.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 320km/h.
  2. British luxury marque, Rolls-Royce, is proud to present the FAB1, based on an extended wheelbase Rolls-Royce Ghost to support a noble cause. Headed by Chris Evans, the FAB1 Million project aims to raise
  3. Subaru has unveiled the WRX Concept at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The concept adopts a sloping roofline which is commonly known as a 'four-door coupe' body style. Together with the huge wheel arches and powerful body lines, we can guess that the next WRX is going to have a distinct identity, distancing itself from the regular Impreza. The direction that the new WRX is heading is confirmed by Toshiro Masuda, Senior General Manager of Subaru Product and Portfolio Planning. According to Masuda, it's more like 'they share a blueprint' than one is a hot version of the other. This is similar to Nissan's decision to separate the GT-R model from the Skyline name. The concept measures 4,521mm long by 1,990mm wide by 1,389mm tall, making it slightly shorter, lower and wider than the current Impreza. The concept wears 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40Z R20 Dunlop rubber. According to Subaru, the car features a carbon fibre roof to lower the center of gravity and to reduce weight. A prominent rear diffuser and distinct C-shaped taillights enhances the WRX's own identity. The powerplant for the next generation WRX will be a derivative of the 2.0-litre, direct-injected flat-four found in the BRZ. No further power train details have been confirmed by Subaru.
  4. Just four days ago, I wrote of the Dubai Police Department adding the Chevrolet Camaro and the million dollar Lamborghini Aventador as a cop 'cruiser' car. Now another set of wheels from another Italian marque joins the Aventador, in its quest to cruise around the affluent city streets to promote the area's image as a mecca for money - The Ferrari FF. The FF is a two-door, four-wheel drive shooting brake which sits four in some of the finest leather offered by the Maranello factory. If memory serves, the FF was an attempt by Ferrari to answer customers' calls for a family cruiser that is suitable for most weather, rain or snow with comfort with adequate boot space for your ski equipment. It measures 4,907mm long, sits 1,953mm wide and stands 1,379mm tall and is powered by a 6.3-litre NA V12 - akin to the F12berlinetta - which produces 651 prancing Italian horses and 683Nm of torque good for a 335km/h top speed.
  5. Ford has announced that it will introduce a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine for the China-bound Mondeo, which will debut at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show. The engine will also propel the Fusion (a rebadged Mondeo) in North America and subsequently the Europe market Mondeo. The announcement may come as a surprise as it is contrary to earlier reports which expect the 2013 Mondeo to be equipped with Ford
  6. This guy might own a Ferrari F430, but he clearly does not know how to record a video. Nonetheless, this rather interesting video of a young kid piloting a F430 around a (thankfully) empty neighbourhood in India with an even younger passenger who is probably his brother - has surfaced on the webosphere. As mentioned earlier, the video is really shaky - much worse than the movie Cloverfield, but after watching, I have a couple of questions - Is the father a bad parent for letting his young son drive a Ferrari? Whatever reasons the father has for his actions, I don't reckon it was a wise move to record the video. And even if he decide to, perhaps keeping it personal instead of publicising it would have been better. And aren't you guys surprised the kid actually managed to drive quite well? I mean he can barely see out of the windscreen yet he could control, brake and move over speed humps well. For me, I'm quite on the fence. I am rather surprised the kid didn't crash the car, and controlled the 483bhp car rather well. I mean when I was his age, I could barely drive proper on my PlayStation. Despite this, if the father really wanted to let his son experience the power of Italian exotics he shouldn't have recorded a video to publicise it to the entire world. You know what they say - do what you want, just don't get caught. I wonder what happens when a Ferrari employee watches the video. Maybe they should consider the kid as a young race driver. On a side note, couldn't the kid wear something nicer than that Ben 10 sleeveless tee? He is an Internet star after all.
  7. With Audi and BMW toying with the E-Tron and 'i' electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz needed an engineering defying car of their own. And eventually they did create one - the SLS AMG E-Cell. Finished in an eye blinding shade of yellow the E-Cell EV impressed with a 525bhp via four permanent all-wheel drive electric motors, rotating to a maximum of 12,000rpm each. Being an EV, the 880Nm of torque is instantly available, accelerating the car to 100km/h in four seconds. After almost half a year, the E-Cell got updated, more than in nameplate and colour to the SLS AMG Electric Drive (SLS AMG ED). The SLS AMG ED is the most powerful AMG vehicle that produces a total output of 740bhp and a maximum torque of 1,000Nm from four motors in each corner of the car. The electric motor weighs 45kg, each, and distributes varied torque to individual wheels via an axially-arranged transmission design. At 13,000rpm, the SLS Electric Drive propels to a 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds to reach an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h making the 'Green' gullwing the world's fastest production EV. Each battery module contains 72 lithium-ion cells and is engineered with collaboration between Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Britain. As expected this is also the quietest sports car in the world, but as evident from the video, it certainly isn't any less exciting.
  8. The Chevrolet Cruze, which is called the Holden Cruze in Australia, gets a new 1.6-litre turbocharged Ecotec engine 'down under' for MY 2014. The models which are equipped with the new power plant are the higher end SRi and SRi-V sports variants. The engine replaces the existing 1.4-litre turbocharged Ecotec. Although General Motors has introduced a new 1.6-litres SIDI (spark ignition direct injection) Ecotec engine, the new motor in the Cruze actually belongs to the existing range that also powers the Opel Astra 1.6 Turbo. The 1.6-litre force-fed Cruze pumps out 179bhp and 230Nm of torque. Buyers have a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. It would be great if the turbocharged Cruze is offered here as the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine struggles to move the car according to some reviews. Like Singapore, cars in Australia are right hand driven. This could be the final enhancement to the existing Cruze as the prototype of the 2015 MY has already been spotted while undergoing testing.
  9. French automaker Renault and British designer Ross Lovegrove have collaborated on a new nature inspired EV concept - the Twin'Z. The 980kg weighing Twin'Z is essentially an EV, rear-wheel driven car featuring a rear mounted motor that is good for a range of 160km. The motor produces 68bhp and 260Nm of torque for a top speed of 130km/h. The concept aims to bring together two worlds in which design plays a prominent role - furniture and automobiles. The design language centres around the phases of the human life cycle represented as a six-petal flower. Inspiration comes from iconic models, such as the Renault 5 and Renault Twingo. The location of the rear-mounted motor and four lithium-ion battery packs allows an ample cabin space on top of renowned handling that makes it a delight to drive. The human life cycle inspired design fits Renault
  10. An ordinary Singaporean has a lot of concerns on his mind which could include his child's education, cost of living and job stability. However, it is best to put all these concerns away temporarily while driving. According to an analysis of the US national crash data, more fatal car crashes are caused by drivers who are 'lost in thought' rather than using a mobile phone. To be exact, 10 percent of the fatal accidents in the US involve at least one driver who is distracted and 62 percent of the distraction had to do with daydreaming and 'lost in thought'. Mobile phone usage constituted 12 percent. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety advised drivers to stay focused on the dangers of the road by playing the 'what if' game and asking themselves how they would react to unexpected events on the road. The foundation said that drivers should treat driving as a complicated task requiring full attention. Other significant distractions include rubbernecking, having a conversation with the passengers, eating and moving an object.
  11. In a recent episode of Autocar, Steve Sutcliffe pitted the German supercar, the 2013 Audi R8 V10 against the Ducati Diavel. For readers' information, the Diavel is the second cruiser motorcycle from Ducati, an Italian company that designs and manufactures motorcycles. Ducati is owned by Audi. Weighing 234kg with a 162bhp, 1198cc two-cylinder engine, the Diavel has a power-to-weight ratio of 692bhp per tonne. At the other corner, the 5.2-litre, 542bhp R8 has a power-to-weight figure of 340bhp per tonne. Looking at the power-to-weight ratio, it looks like the Audi is at a disadvantage. However, this test takes into consideration both acceleration and deceleration of the two vehicles. Who is going to come out on top?
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVzN3pIjP9U About two weeks ago, I wrote about the unveiling of the WRX concept at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The above video features Subaru's design chief, Osamu Namba, who explained the styling characteristics of the WRX Concept at Subaru's New York Auto Show booth. Osamu Namba joined Subaru in 2008, hired from an independent styling studio he had founded a decade earlier. His mission is to unify the Subaru look across models and win new fans. I have one personal request to Mr Osamu though - Please incorporate as much of the styling elements in the concept as possible in the production model. On the drivetrain, my prediction is that the new WRX will be powered by the brand's new 2.0-litre direct-injected turbocharged Boxer engine. It is currently used in the new Forester and is good for 240bhp and 350Nm of torque in this application.
  13. As a result of the rising tension in the Korean Peninsula, GM is making contingency plans to move workers and shift production out of the country. Speaking in an interview on CNBC's Squawk Box, GM CEO Dan Akerson said, "We are making contingency plans for the safety of our employees to the extent that we can." GM is the third largest carmaker in South Korea employing 17,000 people with an annual output of 1.4 million vehicles. About 1.3 million units are exported to Europe and the U.S. One of these models exported is the Chevrolet Spark subcompact (above). Akerson added that it is difficult to shift production out of South Korea but may have to do so if the region continues to destabilise as part of long term planning. However, according to a report on Wall Street Journal, Akerson has already decided to move production to other plants. Should a war take place, Hyundai Motor Group, the world's fourth largest auto maker after General Motors, Volkswagen Group, and Toyota, is definitely going to be affected as well. This could result in wide ranging impact on the global automotive industry. At the time of writing this article, North Korea has moved a second mid range missile to its east coast and loaded both on mobile launchers, fueling fears of an imminent firing. Let there be peace on Earth.
  14. You are familiar with Ken Block's gymkhana videos where he usually wrecks tarmac in his Subaru. This time round, Monster has another video - which is equally impressive. A 850bhp Trophy Truck with 34-inches of suspension destroys the topsoil of the Mojave Desert at 241km/h an hour. Driven by 'Ballistic' BJ Baldwin, the rear-wheel driven truck sits on an NSP-1 chassis and is powered by a large 7.5-litre Chevrolet V8 engine developing 935Nm of torque with a fuel consumption of 75.8 litres per 100 km. Filmed by Tempt Media this off-road adventure would complement any Fast and Furious series with a jaw dropping moment at one point. Ok enough talk, more action!
  15. The current car loan restrictions will be lifted by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for a period of 60 days for the purchase of used cars that were part of car dealers' inventory before 25th February 2013. Used cars registered as of 4th March 2013 will also be eligible for this concession as dealers have up to seven days to register used cars under the LTA's Temporary Transfer Scheme (TTS). The inventory of used cars acquired by dealers at relatively high in-built Certificate of Entitlement (COE) values has made it particularly challenging to adjust to the new market conditions. Demand has also fallen more sharply in the used car market compared to that for new cars. Thus MAS has therefore decided to temporarily lift the restrictions for the limited pool - comprising less than 7,000 cars. This concession takes effect from 6th April 2013 and will be in place for a period of 60 days, after which, the financing restrictions will apply. Also, the previously announced loan restrictions has been extended to all entities that finance car purchases - including those not regulated by MAS. MAS also announced it will continue to monitor developments in the car market and COE premiums, and will recalibrate the financing restrictions for new and used cars when appropriate.
  16. Thermaltake Technology is a manufacturer of PC cases, power supplies and cooling solutions with its main headquarters located in Taipei, Taiwan. Recently the firm requested BMW Group DesignworksUSA- a subsidiary of BMW - to develop a design concept for a high end gaming headset. The headset comes after a successful design collaboration on the Level_10 chassis in 2009 and the Level_10 M Mouse - launched last year. The challenge for the industrial design firm was to translate the Level_10 chassis design language into the headset design. The headset successfully translated the iconic Level_10 design language into a pure/bended aluminum design, negative-space and an overall architectural-structure finish. The result is a solid, yet lightweight looking headset with an audiophile design character. The curved layering effect of the ear piece resembles sound waves and has been directly adapted from the tower design concept. The Level_10 M Headset features high sound quality with 40mm driver units and embedded with Tt eSPORTS' most advanced acoustic engineering. Gamers can experience a rich sound at low frequencies, purifying sensation at mid frequency, and harmonic at the high frequencies. The headset is constructed from solid aluminum for a robust, yet lightweight appearance with a high comfort level. Large headphone capsules and a smooth-surface headband provide maximum comfort for hours while the sliding adjustments and an adjustable microphone provides a customised fit. The microphone is foldable and can be tucked when not needed. This nifty feature also calls for easy storage in small shelves or desks and during transportation. The headset was officially launched in March 2013 at Hanover, Germany during the CeBIT 2013 exhibition. From May 2013, the headset will be available at most major retail stores and online in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Available in black and white, the headset retails for $149.99 The Level_10 M Headset is on digital display at Tt eSports
  17. At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo announced that all Ferrari employees would receive a special bonus due to the excellent financial results from 2010 to 2012. Now, a large part of that promise has already been paid out. The first portion of that special bonus consists of an additional month of bonus for each FY between 2010 to 2012. This means a handsome three-month bonus for each of the 3,000 headcounts under Ferrari
  18. The above video is reportedly to be captured in Russia. It shows a shapely young lady in an outfit that is more suitable for her wedding night riding on the boot of a Mercedes E-Class. Her compromising position and body movements are bound to attract the attention of other motorists. But I guess most male drivers ain
  19. Ford lands itself in hot soup in India due to a series of advertisements promoting the Figo compact MPV. Titled 'Leave your worries behind', there are three advertisements meant to illustrate the Figo's spacious boot. The most controversial of them all shows former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi smiling behind the wheel of the Figo with three scantily dressed women tied up and bundled into the boot. These women each had a ball stuck in their mouths. With the 2012 Delhi gang rape case still fresh in every one's mind and a similar case involving a Swiss national recently, Ford's advertisements with sexual connotations is bound to attract negative public reaction. As a result, Ford had to issue an apology via a press statement: "We deeply regret this incident and agree with our agency partners that it should have never happened. The posters are contrary to the standards of professionalism and decency within Ford and our agency partners. Together with our partners, we are reviewing approval and oversight processes to help ensure nothing like this ever happens again." The other two advertisements features Michael Schumacher as the driver with his F1 rivals in the boot and Paris Hilton with the Kardashian sisters tied up in the boot.
  20. In the recent episode of Autocar UK, reviewer Steve Sutcliffe pits the brand new Renault Clio RS 200 EDC against the Toyota GT 86. The Toyota GT 86 is described by Top Gear as one of the best driving sports cars of the last decade. How will it fare against the French turbocharged hot hatch tuned by Renault Sport? Revealed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the fourth generation Clio RS is powered by a 1.6-litre DIG TURBO engine lifted from the Nissan Juke and develops 200bhp with 240Nm of torque. It ditches the manual transmission in favor of the EDC (Efficient Double Clutch) dual-clutch transmission developed by Renault Sport engineers. The Century sprint is completed in 6.7 seconds. On the other corner, we have the rear-wheel drive Toyota GT 86 fitted with the world's first direct-injected, 2.0-litre Boxer engine. The 200bhp, 205Nm coupe sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds when mated with a manual transmission. Read on to find out which model will come out on top!
  21. Mercedes has released a slew of photos showing the interior of the all-new 2014 S-Class flagship. The photos are taken in ambient LED lightings, giving a soothing overall feel as though one is in a high-class lounge. The replacement for the outgoing W221 model will be revealed on 15th May 2013. The luxury saloon will sit on a rear-drive platform and offer optional all-wheel drive, as well as the choice of regular and long wheelbases. The 2014 S-Class is expected to be slightly longer than the outgoing model. In the meantime, here's a look at a luxurious cabin at its best.
  22. Porsche plans to increase its global dealership by 33% over the next five years. According to CEO Matthias Mueller, Porsche will invest 200 million euros annually to increase the number of dealerships to 1,000 outlets by 2018 from the current 750. "Our international dealership network is being expanded at a high pace," said Mr Mueller at the Porsche museum. "In China alone, there's a new Porsche Centre opening almost every month," he added. Despite challenging economic conditions in 2012, Porsche's operating profit rose 19% to 2.44 billion euros while delivering a record 143,096 vehicles. Such sterling results probably gave Porsche the confidence to commit to the aggressive expansion plans. However, the brand is cautiously optimistic on this year

    Lamborghini

Unfazed by the Eurozone debt crisis and the 'Fiscal Cliff' episode in the US, Lamborghini's sales in 2012 improved by 30% as compared to a year ago. In terms of absolute figure, the supercar brand moved 2,083 vehicles last year comprising of 922 units of the Aventador and 1,161 units of the Gallardo. Asia took up the largest portion of the sales pie, accounting for 35% of global sales. The China market itself already account for 15%. This should not come as a surprise as Asia continues to be at the forefront of wealth creation, minting millionaires at a faster pace than any other region in the world. Strong sales is only part of Lamborghini's success story. The company's turnover climbed 46% from EUR 322 million in 2011 to EUR 469 million in 2012. With the global economic climate looking brighter, the bull run looks set to continue in 2013.
  24. According to a report by ExxonMobil, diesel will surpass petrol as the number one transportation fuel worldwide by 2020 and continue to increase its share through 2040. The shift from petrol is being propelled by an increase in light-duty engine efficiency and an expansion in commercial transportation globally. Fuel demand by heavy-duty vehicles will see the greatest growth and accounts for 40% of all transportation demand by 2040. Approximately 80% of the growth in the demand for commercial transport will come from developing nations. On the other hand, demand for petrol will be relatively flat despite the doubling of global personal vehicle population from more than 800 million vehicles at present to more than 1.6 billion in 2040. The rise in popularity of diesel personal vehicles can be observed right here in Singapore due to the CEVS, and reduction of Special Diesel Tax for cars that meet the Euro V emission standard. In 2040, we may end up seeing more diesel pumps than petrol ones in our gas stations.
