  1. Some time last year, my phone totally died on me, forcing me to purchase a replacement - apart from the money, I wasn't really complaining, as I have been eyeing the Xiaomi 13 Pro for quite some time, clearly impressed by its camera's prowess. Everything about the phone was great. As the flagship model powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Gen 2, there's no concern for processing power, and my only gripe was that I could only afford the 256GB variant... After spending some time with it, I found a serious problem with the phone - the curved edge of the display! I'm going to explain my hatred for this feature. Yes, some might think that it is a pretty design, but in reality, there are just too many cons to justify it. Pros: Larger screen to bezel ratio Allows the phone to look slimmer Cons: As the curved edge is still part of the display, the extreme edge of the content that you are viewing might fall into that curved area and get slightly distorted The curved edge is still part of the touch screen, and hence one-handed operation of the phone will easily result in accidental touches by the fleshy part of your palm (there's even a setting for you to adjust the unresponsive area near the edge of the screen - even the phone manufacturer knew it was going to be a problem!) Setting the area near the edge to be unresponsive can also result in issues - certain apps, games or programs might require touches near the edge to operate and this could break the experience. It's impossible to get the perfect tempered glass screen protector. As the curved edge require a curve tempered glass piece, seamlessly adhering it to the screen becomes an issue. Tempered glass manufacturers have came up with two solutions - a really thick adhesive layer, or a thin UV-cured liquid glue. With the former, touchscreen responsiveness is subpar and operating the in-display fingerprint sensor can be an issue, and with the latter, it doesn't take more than a couple of weeks for the edges of the adhesive to wear... In my opinion, this is a design feature that I can absolutely do without. Thankfully, it seems that the latest Xiaomi 14 Ultra no longer has this annoying and useless feature. - Zhi Xuan
  2. Hello admin and mods, can we have a dark mode or dark theme option to choose from? Thanks.
  3. From - Telegraph.co.uk Safest font for car displays developed Designers in conjunction with MIT scientist believe they have created the most legible font for drivers to see at speed A new font called Burlingame has been hailed as the safest dashboard font ever produced by scientists. According to researchers at MIT, the font is highly legible by scientific standards, compared with previous fonts used in vehicles. During their research, scientists compared different typefaces in simulated driving situations, in order to determine which letter shapes and spacing reduced the driver's glance time. Steve Matteson, who took part in the MIT AgeLab study, told Fast Company: "Truthfully there haven't been any good scientific studies to prove what we consider our trade craft, our intuition as designers that makes things legible. "We worked with MIT to basically test typefaces side by side to figure out which ones were legible and try to figure out why they are legible.” Can a new font really cut down on accident rate???
  4. Anyone know good ones, and where to get? eBay seems to have some... Preferrably RPM & speedometer.
  5. Any SE able to explain if these terms mean the same thing? If different, what usage had these types of units undergone? There’re times I see advertisements using these terms that give some discounts. 1. Demo units 2. Display units 3. Event units 4. Management units 5. Have not seen advertisement saying “Test drive units”

At present my view on either of these displays - smartphone anf HU on the driver front seat is reverse for the rear view camera. That is what I see on the smartphone or the HU on my left , is actually on the right and vice versa on the display.

  14. I realised my desktop gadgets were not displaying on my office desktop and home desktop dispite several attempts on restoring it. I search thru the web for a solution. Some were pretty useless and I finally got one that works even after reboot. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/140358-gadgets-not-displaying-correctly-windows-7-fix.html Use "Option 2" I cut & paste for easy ref. Go to "Start" (bottom left hand corner), search for "command prompt". Excecute. After you see the command prompt window appear, cut and paste each following command One by One and enter. Nevermind if some gives you error message. Just continue with the next command until you reach the last. taskkill /im sidebar.exe /f regsvr32 msxml3.dll regsvr32 scrrun.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll regsvr32 atl.dll Regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sbdrop.dll" Regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\wlsrvc.dll" reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones" /f "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe" After that you should be able to see your desktop gadgets reappear. Hope this helps.
  15. Following the step of its German rival, Mercedes-Benz, BMW will also launch an exclusive 5 Series lineup that only the Japanese can get their hands on. The premium German automaker will be offering sedan and touring variants for the BMW 5 Series Exclusive Sport Edition. The Japanese can choose a 2.0-litre diesel or a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine for both variants. These exclusive 5 Series will be limited to only 300 units, featuring a complete M-Sport package for its exterior. Meanwhile, on the interior, customers will get the comfort from a three-spoke M steering wheel, sports seats wrapped in Cinnamon Brown leather material, a Heads-Up Display, an upgraded audio system and a lot more to mention. If you're a fan of BMW and are lucky enough to be living in Japan, we think you might want to add this limited edition model to your collection. You can take it home for an exchange of something between 7,190,000 to 7,490,000 Japanese Yen. After all, you won't find the BMW 5 Series Exclusive Sport Edition in other countries or when the model is sold out - it's limited to 300 units only, remember?
  16. Hi fellow motorist, I observed Shell recently has removed the price tag for fuel in all its fuel station. There were price tags for 95/98/V-Power indicated on their electronic board. I wonder the reason why??
  17. Hi all, There's something that simply baffled me. I have a ALPINE ICS-X8 (7' Head Unit) that is able to display resolution up to 800x480. I have also installed add-on GPS (RoadNavi with Papago Map). Unfortunately, the add-on GPS map resolution is so lousy (480x234) and the map display is not sharp. Upon query, they replied that they use Low Resolution Driver for GPS input to the Alpine Head-Unit..... Tried googling but couldn't find any answer....... Is there really such thing, i.e. High resolution Head Unit but uses Low resolution driver for GPS input ??!!! In another words, as long as I have this Alpine Head Unit, I will continue to have a low resolution GPS display regardless of the add-on unit ? Thanks.
  18. Dear all, Anyone Nissan keyless entry car owner came across the display error as attached below. Please kindly advice. Thanks Best regards, rustyz

  22. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1214654/1/.html SINGAPORE: A furniture retailer has become the first to be fined for not including the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the prices of its items on display and in advertisements. Silver River Furniture was fined S$4,000 on Friday on four counts of not complying with GST regulations on price displays. Two other similar charges were taken into consideration. The authorities found two of Silver River Furniture's advertisements in a local English daily in January and February 2012 with small print stating "all prices exclude delivery and GST". Prices of goods in the showrooms also excluded the GST. GST-registered businesses like Silver River Furniture have to show GST-inclusive prices on all displays, advertisements, publications and even written or verbal quotations to the public. The only exception would be businesses in the hotel and food and beverage industries for goods and services that are subject to service charge. The furniture retailer failed to comply with the GST price display requirements, even though it had been warned several times. The maximum penalty is a fine of S$5,000. -CNA/ac
