  3. IMHO, if you really want to get good FC, the best way is to get your ECU tuned and don't drag your gears! Cause Factory ECU is never tuned for 1 specific car and always on the safe side. You should get the ECU tuned to match local condition and your driving style. Most of the people tuned for more power but actually it can be done for FC as well. 1. Reduce your fuel enrichment time under warm up. Our engines always run rich when its cold to make it warm up the engine faster. This time period can actually be reduced. 2. Throttle enrichment. When you step on the throttle, the ECU will spray more fuel than necessary so you get better acceleration. If you are better light on the throttle, can actually set ECU to reduce amt of fuel injected. Get less power but you don't need it under light throttle conditions. This is also why its better to travel at the same speed than accelerate and brake and accelerate again. Throttle enrichment...... 3. Highway cruising. Can actually set the engine to run lean when cruising. But make sure its well tuned else there may pinging. 4. For manual cars, don't drag your gears! If no power, shift down. Running at higher RPM is actually better. I realise when I go up slope on 4th gear, the engine runs rich because of heavy engine load and low RPM. Once I shift down to 3rd, the engine turns to stoichiometric ratio. This can be set in ECU as well. This is what I have observed. IMHO, all the moddings except for CAI (Not open pod, just ducting to draw cooler air outside engine bay) hardly benefits anything in terms of FC. Its ECU tuning that really makes a difference.

  7. Got this from civicforums.com so dun take my word for it http://www.civicforums.com/forums/60-honda...ic-v-1-1-a.html A lot of people seem to ask about this, so I wrote a little guide. For entertainment purposes only. Feel free to reply with any corrections/modifications/comments/whatever. Guide to Racing in an Automatic 7th Gen Civic, version 1.1 *I assume no liability for anything you do to, for, or with your car.* Alright, first things first. The following is the available choices of gears in our cars. P. Park. Put it here when you're not driving. R. Reverse. You go backwards. N. Neutral. The engine revs, but the power does not go to the wheels. Like pressing the clutch on a manual. D. Normal drive. You get 4 gears plus an overdrive, so it's pretty much like 5 gears. D3. Drive, except it won't go any higher than 3rd gear. Useful if you don't want to shift into 4th and overdrive. Keeps the rpms higher when you're driving at like 30-40mph, which means you get more instant response when you press the gas down farther, as opposed to if you were in D going the same speed. 2. Second gear only. This option puts you in second gear. It does not start you in one, nor can you get into first gear if you have 2 selected. If you are racing it is not a good idea to start in 2, because you will get very little power off the line. Now, why did I write that? Because people seem to think that our cars have things like 1, D2, 3, and other weird stuff that I've heard. Here is the trick to knowing what a gear will do. If it is just a number, you will stay in that gear. If there is a "D" in front of it, you have 1, 2, n up until that number. Now that we understand how our Automatic Transmission gears work, let's discuss drag racing techniques. Automatic transmissions know when to shift based on your speed, how far the gas is depressed, and to a lesser extent, rpms. For example, if you start from a stop and press the gas down half way, it might shift from first to second at 3500rpms. If you start from a stop and floor it, it will shift just before redline. So what's the best way to drag race in an auto as far as gears go? You can put it in D or D3. D3 is ok because if it's a 1/4 mile race, the race will end before you top out 3rd gear so don't worry about it. So, you've got it in D or D3, and you floor it. If you leave the gas all the way down, it will shift at redline. Do not worry about shifting it manually. Sure, after it switches to 2nd gear you could put it in 2, and you could run it past redline, but why would you want to do that? 1. You lose power past redline. Higher rpms does not necessarily mean more hp and more torque. 2. You greatly increase the chance of destroying your engine if you run it past redline. 3. If you hit the fuel cutoff, you will slow down due to restricted fuel. So, like I said, leave it in D or D3. Now that you know what to do with the gears, let's look at how to launch in an automatic. Neutral Drop. This is not your friend. Put the car in neutral and rev the engine to the desired rpm level. Keep your foot on the gas and push it into D. Say goodbye to your transmission. Brake Torque. Not the best thing you can do to your car, but much better for it than neutral dropping. Keep it in D or D3, hold the brake in with the left foot. Press the gas with your right foot until the desired rpm level. When the light changes or you get the signal to go or whatever, come off the brake and floor it. I don't know what the best rpm level to do this is, but just remember the higher you go and the longer you hold it, the more damage you're doing to your brakes and torque convertor. Finally, there are a few other things you should know. Minimize the battery drain. Since you are racing, you need to be able to get the most power out of your car that is possible. This means you need to turn off everything that isn't vital to the engine running. Turn off your defroster, air recirculator, stereo, and most importantly your A/C. A/C is a huge drain on power, to the extent where if you floor it with your A/C on and then turn it off you will feel a boost when you turn it off. Leaving your stereo off not only drains less power, but also allows you to hear your engine better. If you are racing in the day, turn off your headlights. Turn off your foglights if you have them, and turn off anything else aftermarket that you may have installed that drains the battery. (thanks to Cyclosporine for reminding me to include this section). Let your car warm up. On the left of your console, there is a water temp gauge. When you first start your car it's at the bottom, and after a few minutes it goes up to the middle. It's generally not a good idea to take your engine into high rpms until this needle is in the middle and your engine has had a chance to warm up. If this ever goes more than a little bit above the middle, which is not likely, you shouldn't drive until your engine has a chance to cool down, and if it happens frequently you should take your car in to be looked at. Minimize your car's weight. This one is obviously easier to implement if you know about the race ahead of time. Lighter cars are obviously easier to accelerate. So, little things you can do that don't require making a huge change or investment are racing with 1/4 tank of gas or less, and taking your spare tire out of the trunk. But make sure you have enough gas to get home, and have a friend come with you to carry your spare in case you end up needing it. Also, if you have huge subs or something in the trunk you should take them out before you go to the track, because they are just extra weight, and you shouldn't have your stereo on during a race anyway. Finally, don't be stupid by racing in the street. Racing is for the track. The streets are for driving. IronFist
  8. Fellow forumers, My upstair neighbour rent out the whole unit to some Filipinos (family and singles). It has been few months. Ever since then, I've been traumatized by the noise from dragging of chairs and furniture, slamming of doors as early as 5am and as late as 12am. Even occasionally in the middle of the night I was rudely awakened by the slamming of doors. The unit is not directly above me but next door to my above unit cos my above unit is vacant. before it was vacant, I talked to the owner but it was not her cos she live alone and now she have moved out but the noise still persist and I know it's her next door neighbour. So I approached her neighbour. I talk to the Filipino man. He did said sorry and it was his little kid that push and pull the chairs and furniture. I mean, can't he teach his little children? Ever since that, things didn't change. I was rudely awaken in the middle of the night and even can't sleep late on weekend cos the dragging of furniture noise will begin about 7am. I wrote to town council and HDB. They responded and talked to them. Thing turns out "a bit" better. But that was 2 months ago, now the noises are coming back again I do not know the owner of the flat personally. Where can I get the contact of the actual flat owner so I can talk to him/her and ask him/her to warn his/her tenants?

  10. Subprime holdings drag on 2 China banks Reuters Tuesday, March 25, 2008 HONG KONG: Two large banks - Industrial & Commercial Bank of China and Bank of China - posted higher fourth-quarter profits on Tuesday, buoyed by the country's surging economy. But the state lenders were hurt by holdings in subprime-related securities in the United States. Bank of China, hardest-hit among the country's big banks by subprime exposure, said it held $5 billion in asset-backed securities at the end of 2007, or 2.13 percent of its investment securities, and booked $1.58 billion in provisions and markdowns on the holdings. The lender said, however, that it believed that it had booked sufficient provisions and did not expect to incur further losses if it unloads its subprime-related holdings. Industrial & Commercial Bank said it held subprime-backed securities worth $1.23 billion at the end of December 2007 and booked $400 million as an allowance for potential losses on that portfolio. Both banks said they expect comparatively muted loan growth this year, while Bank of China said it planned to step up overseas acquisition activity following a year when mainland Chinese financial institutions made several landmark investments abroad. While the subprime damage incurred by both the two banks was broadly within expectations, one analyst said further losses are possible for Bank of China. "At first glance, the impairment losses that they took seem to be lower than what other banks in the region have taken," Hong Yang-myung, credit analyst with Lehman Brothers, said. "It is possible they could continue to book additional losses going forward." Bank of China lowered its subprime-related exposure from $7.95 billion in September after shedding its collateralized debt obligations and some of its asset-backed securities. JPMorgan said it expected Bank of China to book a $1 billion subprime provision for 2007 and a further $1.5 billion in 2008, while Bear Stearns had expected impairment losses totaling 21.5 billion yuan, or $3.05 billion, for 2007 and 2008. Bank of China, in which Royal Bank of Scotland is a large shareholder, posted fourth-quarter profit of 10.78 billion yuan, up 3.9 percent from 10.37 billion yuan a year earlier and topping forecasts for profit of about 8 billion yuan, according to analysts polled Reuters Estimates. Its overseas flagship, Bank of China (Hong Kong), said it reduced its exposure to American subprime asset-backed securities to 4.1 billion Hong Kong dollars, or $526 million, at the end of 2007 from 12.8 billion Hong Kong dollars at the end of June. Industrial & Commercial Bank of China posted a 63 percent rise in fourth-quarter earnings, beating expectations, to about 18 billion yuan from 11 billion yuan a year earlier.
  11. Six Killed While Watching Drag Race Most of the Victims Were Children Home video captured a drag racing car heading into the audience. Six people were killed and 18 injured. (ABC News) Six spectators were killed Sunday when a drag racing car at a charity event in Tennessee lost control and careened into a crowd of people. Hundreds of spectators attending an event to raise money for disabled children were lined up along a stretch of road that had no guard rails in Selmer, Tenn., when a driver lost control of his vehicle. In addition to the six people killed, 18 more were injured, many of them children. A home video capturing the incident showed the car slamming into the crowd in the middle of a wheel-spinning trick. "He was just throwing people up like a deck of cards," one eyewitness said. "I mean it all happened so fast." Another eyewitness hinted the situation may have been preventable. "I'm just upset that this whole situation happened because there's no guard rails and you're two feet from the road," the witness said. Events like car shows and stunt shows draw large audiences, and the Tennessee tragedy raises questions about how safe it is to stand in the crowds. "It did careen into the fans, which was extremely unfortunate," said Robin Ammon, author of "Sport Facility Management" and an expert in crowd management. Ammon said these types of accidents happen all too often. "A lot of times it takes something along the lines of this kind of an incident before they really do something about it," Ammon said. Earlier this month, another crash at a drag racing event in Ohio, which also was captured on video, injured seven people, including an 11-year-old boy. There have also been a series of accidents at air shows and professional sporting events. In 2002, young Nicole Cecil died after being hit in the head with a puck at an NHL hockey game in Columbus, Ohio. "I honestly believe it was her time to go," said Cecil's mother Jody Sergent in a 2002 interview with "Good Morning America's" Diane Sawyer. "She's our angel now." Ammon said parents don't necessarily need to avoid taking their children to these sorts of events. But they should know that there are dangers and should take some precautions, like watching from a safe distance. http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/Story?id=3288966&page=2
