  4. Saw this story on women who drive fast cars - Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin with nice photos for guys that like fast cars, and guys that like pretty women story in Chinese, Google translated the 1st page was quite acceptable https://www.iconsingapore.com/people/meet-6-women-who-all-love-driving-fast-cars/ ---------------- "I often think that the car has its own personality. My car should be a man. It is my companion on the road and it protects me." If Ferrari or Lamborghini are the active young boys in the sports car industry, then the British century-old Aston Martin is a mature gentleman. According to statistics, Singapore had only 196 Aston Martins as of 2017, which is very rare. However, Germaine Tan describes her car as Aston Martin Vantage S. “Lamborghini is a sports, edgy car. Aston Martin first reminds you of elegance and style. It is a symbol of luxury and status. You may often see Lamborghini on the road, but you will not be too familiar with Aston Martin. So it will naturally attract your attention." Many car lovers become caring for the other half. For Germaine, the car is her best friend. She said: "I often feel that the car has its own personality. My car should be a man. It is my companion on the road and protects me." This is the first sports car in her life. The dark-gray body is low-key and she particularly sprays the rims into red roses, adding a touch of softness to the masculine body. Aston Martin has always been known to be steady, for the 22-year-old Germaine may not pull the wind. In this regard, she had different opinions: "Young people of the same age really like high-profile sports cars, but I like the service of Aston Martin. They are very kind and they often hold events. These activities are very good. The members of the club are very happy and I feel very comfortable.” The car is to her and it is like the second home. Before work every day, this is the private area where she is free to be alone with her. “I will let my mind drift or empty in the car; the rear compartment of the car is my daily sundries. And with the unique taste of the leather chair, I feel as if I'm comfortable at home." When she was shooting, she watched as she removed a big puppet, a box with a coat, a water tank and other miscellaneous items from the car. Can imagine how comfortable she usually is in the car. Young and frivolous, although Germaine had a sports car, she did not have much experience in car racing. At most, she only went to Malaysia with the Aston Martin team. "The car was really stable when it turned, it gave me a sense of security, let me know it is very reliable and will protect me, just like my boyfriend." Then she was amazed by her adjective. Ha ha. Why does such a delicate girl like a sports car? She said that when you step on the gas pedal and hear the wonderful sound of the engine, you will feel a sudden burst of strength. "This power comes from the car."

  8. Hey all, Asking if anyone have gotten a summon from TP for a right turn just outside the Whampoa Market carpark exit? $70 to compound zero demerit. I have no problem compounding it. Just want to learn why a right turn can become an unauthorised u-turn offence.
  9. Wanna hear your opinions. Cos lately been thinking of changing cars. Now when I say I wanna change cars, I can buy a new one tomorrow or talk about it for the next ten years without buying. You can reference my round the world trip that is 14 years in the making before I am finally going to do it. Anyway, I am wondering if I will be wasting the SE time by doing test drives on cars I might not buy. Or even visiting showrooms to talk to SE. Those of you who know where I work, I work near some car showrooms so I can drop there literally during lunch as it's a five to teh minutes walk only. Just wanna hear your views.
  10. Don't see this thread before but I think it was discussed before in other forums. How do you move off or accelerate in an auto car? Do you 1) jam the accelerator 2) move off slowly, release accelerator, press again and release then press.... 3) light pressing of accelerator until desired speed I believe few will do number 1. But I heard driving instructors teach both 2&3 so lai lai let's discuss. Who do what and why and is it better? We had a thread on manual cars so let's talk about auto cars.
  11. Asking on behalf of my bro. It happened lately that his car after cold start does not move off. Usually without acceleration cars will lurch forward when we release the brake & move off at a low speed but he's doesn't & have to accelerate to get the car move off. The symptom disappears after driving a distance. What could have gone wrong? His ride is a Picnic, auto

  14. From The New Paper : Man in road accident passes breathalyser test but insurance company refuses to pay out - See more at: http://www.tnp.sg/news/drink-and-drive-no-insurance-cover-even-if-youre-under-limit By: ZUL OTHMAN and LINETTE HENG By his own admission, he drank a few beers about three hours before his Mitsubishi Lancer was involved in an accident at the junction of Grange Road and Tanglin Road on Jan 29. Mr Wayne Poh was given a breathalyser test by the Traffic Police and cleared when the test showed that he was just below the legal limit of 35mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. But the 29-year-old finance manager is now locked in dispute with his motor insurer DirectAsia.com, which won't honour his claim over the accident because he had drunk alcohol before the accident.
  15. Some Friday night food for thought... arguing with CO about my driving style is never ending. She feels that I drive too fast, too recklessly, whereas I feel confident in my ability and in control of the car. How to argue without seeming complacent? Is it complacent or arrogant to say I feel confident in my driving? Then the argument is that driving at lower speed will cause less damage if an accident happens, got more time to react..the usual..which is not wrong. So then why does anyone drive fast? What is "fast"? Why do carmakers make cars with different performance? Given that most countries have speed limits which are way below what a modern car is capable of, why bother to make a vehicle that can go above speed limits? If I were a bmw or merc exec, having studied the singapore car market, I would just make my cars with as small an engine as possible and limit the top speed to 90km/h. Singaporean badge whores (no offence meant here) would lap up my cars and I would be making huge margins by making consumers pay a premium for nothing more than the badge. Until truly autonomous cars become reality this would be the best way to go, no? Sorry for rambling...just wanna see what opinions there are out there. cheers
  16. Hi Bro and Sis I need some helps. I need some volunteers to deliver bags of groceries donations to some needy families. I have undertaken a charity drive for below organisation donating about 100-120 bags of free groceries to those families in need. Each bag is quite heavy so I need 15 drivers. You are welcome to sponsor more groceries bag value at SGD60. Currently about 100bags have been secured. Receipt will be given for tax rebate. I thought I can do this as a MCFer gathering. After doing this good cause of delivering, we can all gather and go for a simple lunch gathering. Maybe I can get a eating place to sponsor lunch. What do you guys think? If I cant get enough driver then I will have to seek alternative. Viable? Target date is March or April as Feb too rush. About Groceries-For-Families Every 2nd Friday evening of the month, volunteers gather at Children’s Wishing Well to pack groceries for more than 100 families. Delivery will take place the following day from 9 am to 12 noon. Seventy percent of our beneficiaries live in HDB flats that are 3-room or smaller. Grocery bags are distributed across the island with minimal geographical constraints. https://www.wishingwell.org.sg/programs/groceriesforfamilies/

  23. Gauging interest in folks interested in doing a drive trip to Hua Hin. It'll proabably be a week long trip (8 day utilising weekends at each end. Why not 9 days.....1 day for rest lah). Why 8 days..... 1.5 days drive up, 1.5 days drive back. You'll essentially be spending 5 nights there. The 2 missing nights are either in Penang or Hatyai for the stop-over. (no I'm not young enough to do a direct drive for those who prefer so) All costs on your own. All arrangements for lodgings on your own too (can recommend you booking sites like asiawebdirect, etc if you need info). Costs of lodgings aside...... estimated expenditure for the trip is like SGD1800 for a couple. (includes petrol, tolls, insurances, food and sight-seeing). This is only an estimate... you can do your sums should you prefer 5 star dining for every meal, buy loads of stuff, etc. Cost for tolls , petrol & insurance is ~ SGD900 for me. (my car is thirsty) Anyone interested?
  24. Hi, i am new here. my business with my biz partner just started. And recently just bought a proton Savvy (left 6 months) to drive for short term. But I will not wait till i drive till the tail end and then exploring which other option to go for. I would probably go for cars that is left 1-2 years, something that doesn't need me to fork out too much cash and tie over for the next 1 year and once my biz become stabilized or has the ability to upgrade to better car, then we will change. OR, buy a commercial van which is way cheaper to drive thru this short period...... any expert?
