  1. CABBY STALKS FOR 5 MONTHS... BUS DRIVER He then ambushes victim at carpark with iron rod ROAD RAGE at Sin Ming Ave By Tan Ooi Boon [email protected] April 29, 2007 IT started as a minor traffic dispute after a cabby cut into the path of a bus driver. Words were exchanged. But worse was to follow as the cabby began stalking the private bus driver. This went on for five months. Finally, he ambushed the driver at a carpark and hit him repeatedly with a metal rod. The victim, Mr Koh Kwee Siang, suffered bruises on his arms and body. He took the cabby, Sunny Lee Meng Huat, to court. Earlier this month, Lee was given the maximum fine of $1,000 for the attack. Lee, who could have been jailed up to a year, is appealing against his conviction. Due to the unusual nature of the case, District Judge Jasbendar commented in her written judgment that, on hindsight, she felt that her sentence had been too lenient, 'especially since it was a deliberate attack and there was no provocation on the part of the complainant'. The dispute that led to the assault happened at Sin Ming Avenue on 16Sep, 2004. At about 5.50am, Mr Koh was driving his school bus when Lee's Comfort taxi suddenly cut into his path without signalling and almost caused a collision. Mr Koh sounded the horn and Lee retaliated by preventing the bus from overtaking his taxi. This went on for about 1km. At one stage, Mr Koh managed to overtake Lee's taxi, but the latter gave chase until both stopped at a traffic light junction at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. Mr Koh said Lee got out and challenged him to come out. 'He was gesturing and even pointed his middle finger, and used vulgarities. He looked very fierce,' Mr Koh said during the trial last year. He refused to step out and as he drove off, he heard Lee telling him to 'watch out'. Later that morning, Mr Koh lodged a police report. Around 8pm the same day, he returned to Sin Ming Avenue to park his bus and saw Lee and his friends. Since that day, he said he regularly noticed a taxi parked nearby over the next five months. Mr Koh said this 'surveillance' culminated in the attack on 23 Feb, 2005. Mr Koh called the police and was taken Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment as his hand was swollen and bleeding. COMPLETE DENIAL During the trial, another bus driver, Mr Toh Huay Yam, testified that he saw a Chinese man in his 30s sitting on a slab at about 5.45am that day. Later, as he was starting the bus, he saw this man attacking Mr Koh with a metre-long rod. He alighted and shouted at the assailant to stop hitting the victim. After the man fled, Mr Toh said he drove without checking on the victim's condition as he had to pick up passengers. In court, Lee's defence was one of complete denial. He admitted quarrelling with Mr Koh over the incident, but denied stalking him or attacking him at the carpark. 'I had no time to ambush or track him down... I need to work. Even sleep, I do not have enough. How do I know his working time and what time I should track him down,' he said in court. He said the victim had framed him to seek financial compensation because he could not find the real assailant. He added that Mr Koh could be 'self-conscious of other people looking at him or maybe because of his own behaviour he had offended others'. But DJ Jasbendar rejected his defence and convicted him. (See report, above right.) The judge found Mr Koh to be a truthful witness whose account was supported by Mr Toh's evidence. She added that it was clear Mr Toh was not close to Mr Koh, because he didn't even stop to check on the latter after the incident. She fined Lee $1,000, noting that 'the proceedings were instituted by a private citizen and the authorities did not deem this case sufficiently serious to prosecute the defendant'. In her judgment, she wrote: 'On hindsight, the sentence imposed would appear to be on the lenient side.' Judge: Cabby not a truthful witness THE defendant had been going to Sin Ming Drive regularly to refuel his taxi. Despite this, he claimed he did not know the location of the nearby URA carpark where the assault happened. District Judge Jasbendar Kaur said it was difficult to accept cabby Sunny Lee's evidence because he had been driving to the area to refuel his taxi daily. 'I found the defendant's claim that he was totally unaware of the location of the URA carpark a little incredible... This suggested that he was not totally truthful.' She noted that the cabby maintained that he was not at the carpark during the assault, yet he could not recall where and what he was doing then. Based on the accounts given by witnesses, she said she was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that it was Lee who had ambushed and attacked Mr Koh at the carpark. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,128934,00.html?
  2. Met this awful driver last Saturday on my way to AMK: At the CTE turnoff, where the lanes merge, I was ahead by a half-car-length, but he used the emergency lane on the left to get ahead where it eventually merged into a single lane. poor latio got no acceleration, so i tried to overtake on the right and he blocked me - without signalling. Tried to go back to the left lane and he blocked again without signalling ! Fed up, and thinking this pyscho was duelling me, i returned used other lanes just to get him out of my sight ! Lo and behold he's stuck in traffic at the AMK Ave 1 turnoff, and I ended up right on his tail again ! so i'm sick of him and trying to keep my distance of what I thought was a cocky but utterly dangerous driver, and he starts behaving strangely e.g. sudden overtaking, including signalling left at a junction and when I would close up on him he'd speed up and overtake on the right ! This occurred several times until we parted ways, he making a desperate dive on the right to AMK Ave 3. It occurred to me that this poor guy thought that I was trailing him ! I'd admit that I was eyeballing his white latio, because it was new plate matched with an awful driver, and that probably got him nervous and his panties in a bunch ! But it probably makes sense then... drives like hero, but scared of retribution... I'm not that kind, but no sympathies for this White Latio driver should he meet one of those in need for some 'anger management' !
  3. ... Obviously he is trying to take a photo of your car. Say a driver follows you straight to Lane 1 after entering the expressway. Then when you're checking your rear mirror, you suddenly catch sight of him steadying a camera on his steering wheel and aiming it at you. 1. What likely intentions could he have in doing that? 2. How would you react? 3. How likely is it that he is not trying to take a photo of your car?
  4. anyone experience noise from the driver's seat? when i try to lift ur butt i can hear the noise. especially, when i go thru even roads. the noise has been there for weeks, lately getting louder. cant stand it any more. any suggestion?
  5. very piss-off with those factory buses/vans in between 7.10 to 7.20 am/pm along amk ave 3 at amk ctrl flyover. They are really rude and inconsiderate, for instance: - turn when red light is still ON - overtaking 3rd lane to turn right to SLE - very close to my back - speeding May i know how to lodge complain to TP for this inconsiderate drivers? thanks...
  6. ...and will do so in a street legal Porsche 911 GT3 sponsored by Stuttgart Auto
  7. went to kallang macdonalds for dinner with wifey at 7pm...parked outside the mcdonald's premises.... finished makan and went to my car and very surprised to find a coupon stuck onto my wiper...and the timing is still VALID.....seems weird as i thought it is free parking...checked and found out parking is 7 days a week till 10pm.... saw the swift sport parked behind me got 30 bucks fine....i felt very good after that...not mainly becos i didnt get the parking ticket....but the gesture of a fellow driver whom i do not even know...to even bother to use his own coupon and tear out the timing for me.....it nearly brought tears to my eyes.... i have identified this nice driver and will give him a dinner treat one of these days... so all the bros here....what is the best thing another fellow driver did for you?????
  8. My friend unfortunately involved a minor accident yesterday[blush] when he was driving back to car park along in the center lane, a guy just was driving out from a park lot, my friend and that guy both jam braked, but still hitted each other a bit, minor paint lost and dent for both side, no doubt the guy should pay the rapir fee , but when they was exchanging personal particular, the guy occasionally found my friend still is 'P' plate driver and the worest is my friend didn't wear 'P' plate for his car , the guy got advantage immediately, all the expense have to afford by my friend, otherwise he would report TP my friend called me to give some idea, I'm also not sure how to settle this case?

  11. Hi to everyone, let me make a introduction first. My name is Adwin and is 27 years old. Just got my license a few weeks ago. Basically i wanted to buy a second-hand car to improve my driving skills. After some searching and have finally narrowed down to the civic esi which is a coe car. Here is some questions and doubts that i want to clear. Hope some brothers here can give me some answers/suggestions/advice. 1)How is the maintenance costs that is expected for old cars like this? 2)What things to look out for when choosing the car in the market? 3)How is the resale/scrap value of the car should i need to sell/scrap it? 4)What is the roughly insurance quote for me? 5)Should i pay fully for the car? (I have the cash) 6)Lastly, as in the topic, is it good for new driver like me? Thanks in advance for any input. Cheers
  12. Most of us have been in that situation before - some rude driver not only cuts in your path dangerously, but when you honk him, he decides to get even ruder, from throwing cigarette butts out of his window at you to starting a starring incident at the next traffic light or tailgating you all the way home. And somewhere down the road, we end up saying something like, (with no intention to single out anyone) "oh, typical (civic, merc, rex, etc., etc.) driver" So, is it the fault of the car, which attracts the wrong crowd or are drivers more inclined to drive in a certain way if they drive a particular marque?

  14. "typical driver response time to react is about 7 sec or more" This was a statement made by someone. I personally feel that it is more likely to be 0.7 sec than 7 sec. I timed myself while going to the toilet just now...took less than 7 sec to finish peeing.
  15. Great Reminder. I love this chap. 1 letter whack so many people. But he got his century sprint fact wrong, picanto needs >12s. Sep 27, 2006 Obey traffic rules, they are there for a purpose I WRITE in response to the letter, 'Old hands at driving booked 5 times in month' by Ms Koh Bee Kwang (ST, Sept 23). First, I applaud the Traffic Police for outsourcing some of their traffic-policing function, and United Premas and Cisco for a job well done. Ms Koh did not dispute that the five traffic offences were committed; Rather, she was 'incredulous' at the outsourcing because it is easier to catch offenders now. Many experienced motorists drive the way Ms Koh did, simply because they thought they were 'experienced'. They forget there are many others on the road who may not be as 'experienced' as they are, or older folks like me whose reflexes are slower, and so cannot pre-empt other drivers' actions, read their minds or take corrective action in time. (Taxi drivers please take note.) Even more do not realise that most cars on local roads have about the same performance level. Whether it is a Picanto, a Sunny, an Altis or whatever, most can do the 0-100kmh sprint in 10 to 12 seconds. All cars can also hit above 100kmh. So those who are under the illusion that their car is faster, and demonstrate it by trying to outrun others, or weave in and out of traffic, are creating trouble. I appeal to all who have the same attitude as Ms Koh; Obey traffic rules, they are there for a purpose. Drive leisurely, have a mental map of your route, and study the Highway Code again. Many have forgotten it. Every day on the road, I experience drivers who: Do not signal Do not give way, but rather speed up when others signal their intention Drive at speeds in excess of 20kmh over the speed limit, even in the heartland. Muscle their way past when approaching a merging road even when they are three car lengths behind - the list goes on. My pet peeve: neighbours in my area who insist on parking next to the kerb in the public carpark (thereby creating an obstruction and a hazard) when the lots in front of their flat are occupied, rather than park a short distance away and take a short walk. I remember one big black car which was habitually parked in the handicapped lot. The owner's attitude was aptly summed up by a decal on his windscreen: 'I am always right!' I hope the enforcement agencies get him soon. And for those reading this and starting to point their middle finger; Take heart. I was fined twice recently, once for beating a red light ($200 and 12 demerit points), and once for parking at a bus stop ($70). Goh Choon Poh
  16. I just got my Rush, never driven a SUV before, felt abit higher than normal car height. The problem is when i go at 110km or 120km,i dun feel the car very safe, like anytime can buang like that..especially during bend, how to make it more steady at high speed?change wheels?
  17. quote from a Thai forum, a horrible Civic FD accident happened in Thailand , but the driver just was slight injured
  18. Recently attended a Ralliart Driver's Training organised by the dealership and I'll have to say it is the best $100 modification I've spent on this car. To all the 18 year olds with P plates as well as the others. Please do not post a thread asking where you can get the largest turbo or the best performance mod per buck. All the performance modifications will be useless on the track because it requires, skill and not horsepower. Please I urge all the 2F2F wannabes talking about 99 pratas or OG to go to the track and do 2 laps at least. The track experience will speak for itself because when your car spin out, I really hope you are taking your car for a ride and not your car taking you for a ride. On the track we had 2 cars that spung out with 1 who overtook me as it was modified, quicker and more aggressive but spung out on Shell corner resulting in me E-braking to avoid ramming him from the side. Funny thing was that the car looks promising during the corner till it broke rear traction and spung out. Caught me by surprise by definitely caught the driver even more because he did not attempt to counter steer. Note: This guy is a regular at the track. Those who think its easy, please please please modify yourself first before talking about power upgrades. After the track experience, I find myself taking much more caution on the road in knowing the consequences of malhandling the car. We had the Slalom course and Apex practice. I did 3 laps in tarmac mode and last in Gravel mode. Clipped 2 cones with gravel mode due to tail happy distribution set up. [/img]
  19. Ok, judging from my created title, I guess many will presume that I am a taxi lover, which is not. But I was travelling along CTE 2 nights ago in the direction of AMK. In the tunnel, I saw one taxi on Lane 1. He was going like probably 100km/h when this Jag X-Type came behind him, keep flashing his high beam on and off like ma chim playing 'Point Blank' at the arcade. I kinda feel bad for the taxi driver because he had no chance to give way as the traffic in lane 2 was quite heavy. Not very, but probably not much chance of changing lanes. Then the Jag continued his 100X per minute flashes on his HIDs... p/s: perhaps the jag owner rushing to TTSH or something...

  21. Since Jun 2005, Performance Motors Ltd (PML) have opened their BMW Advanced Driver Training (ADT) to non-BMW owners. As you might be aware, the course cost $800 for non-BMW owners. And BMW owners who bought their car from PML pay only $500 (Ya I'm thinking the same thing too, the rich getting richer right) Oh well. You might be asking, why do I want to pay $800 for this course ? 1. You can wreck the car because it's not yours. Plus you get to drive in a proper race circuit with safety barriers and all. (No worries about hidding kerbs... in your own car) 2. You can progress up the drivers training ladder systematically and the training is recognised internationally. Advanced -> Intensive -> Perfection. 3. Good Car-Driver-Instructor ratio. Trainers are certified by BMW Motorsport Centre in Munich. 3 drivers per car. and 2 instructors per 3 cars. You listen to instructors thru walki-talkies. Connected to the car's sound system. 4. Great Hospitality and arrangement. 1 week before the training you'll received the gift/training pack which is couriered to your doorstep. Package include, a clima-cool type of polo T, a cap and training notes. Great Food at corporate hospitality centre in Pasir Gudang. Breakfast, Lunch and Teabreak all included. (Plus point : Food is certified HALAL) Isotonic drinks at every exercise station. Comfortable 30 seater coach transfer from Raffles marina to PG. Covered carpark at Raffles Marina provided. 5. You get to drive a BMW 330i, 3 litre engine with 258 bhp capable of acheiving 0-100 in just 6.6 sec, rear wheel driven. Specially prepared for training, with driving aids and ABS overiding switch. 6. And lastly, You'll LEARN a lot. ADT aims to make you to a safer driver by helping you to develop a balance of attitudes and skills to respond effectively in critical emergency situations , teach you to appreciate and understand the limits of technology and driving skill, allowing you to assess and overcome potential hazards . And of course, it's a whole lot of fun! Many of us ask, how fast can this car or that car get from 0 - 100km/h. Not MANY will ever care to ask what we can do to stop the car from 100 - 0 ?? (well I only remembered Ultravan emphasising on it) This is the important point I learned from this training. It's all about safety. And by the way, all the manouvre was executed not more than 70km/h. So that's should give you an idea that the focus of this training is all about. Some of the manouvres in the course include : Understeering, Oversteering and how to overcome them. Emergency Lane Change, Emergency lane change in a Bend. Brake Swerve and Stabalising the car. The exercises are held at different parts of the circuit. Like the understeer and oversteer are conducted in a proper skid pan. Instructors guide drivers from outside the car, they talk you thru the steps throught their walki-talkies and you hear them through the in-car aux input sound system. To end it all, a friendly competition of time slalom on the front straight of the Pasir Gudang track. I managed to time my personal best of 26.66 secs. Unfortunately I got penalty point for my 1st attempt as I missed the designated stopping area by 2 feet. But I guess my Formula Ford experience helps. It tought me that the important thing is to be smooth in steering, transmission, throttle and braking. It's won't help if you're scrappy trying to be fast. So what's next ?. Intensive Driver Training...then who know's Perfection Training in Nuburgring in Germany. But one thing for sure is that it beats any modification on my car. Driver Modification last a lifetime. How long does a modification on the car last ? More pictures and Videos.... at http://www.hermizan.com/sg/photos In case you wish you sign up for Advance Driving Training sign up at at www.pml.com.sg

Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 10:03 pm Post subject: dangerous driving(mods, pls do not erase!) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know that I shouldn't be posting this article but I tot what had happened was really dangerous and it could happen to anyone of you here so I tot I might just share.Pls do not flame me for this. Thx I was driving on TPE on the way back home with my BB and wife.I was on the extreme right lane.I decided to keep to the middle lane.As I was change lane, this black ES5(SFF41**K) with tinted front & rear lights came behind me,quite close. Then this driver overtook me dangerously by the left, when the distance between me & the vehicle in front was very small but this driver still managed to swerve in and squeezed thru...in short, geh geh lai! I later discovered that she was a lady driver after she exited the sengkang exit Let me inform you that you if you think that I am racing with you or whatsoever, you are wrong. What you did was wrong, not gung ho or heroic.do you know that my bb is in the car?I think you if you want to d**,do not look for me.Go elsewhere. If you think that your driving very pro,i am sorry but i think its reckless.I shall see how long your driving habit can carry on. I seriously do not understand why must such things happen when the same make & model meet each other on the road. I encountered a blue SFC ES5 oso in Tampines. When he saw me,it's was like instant attraction, just like a magnet...He just came behind me and tried to stay close..... I really dunno why.Can any bros enlighten me on this?
