Went to testdrive the Meriva on Sat. Quite a steady car with firm handling...the brake was hard...the car came with a 5-speed semi auto gearbox....meaning u can do it the auto or manual way. Using the auto, there seem to be a slight jerk when entering the second gear. feature-wise quite OK.... Just want to know any of the brother/sister driving this car ? Not sure how reliable is the gearbox (it is the same as the Opel corsa)..till now I had seen only abt 5 units. Consumption based on product is a healthy 7.7 litres per 100 km.

Bro Bro! be cautious if you drive on the NS highway... a few of my friends know personally drove up to KL and return... realzizing that they received a few " 150" RM fines for speeding after return. They will fine on same day , 2 or 3 times on the NS highway... Imagine if they plane 10 cameras on the highway, you wil be fine 1500 RM just for using the highway! They are just ridiculoous!

Please direct all new members to this thread for reference. Our Weekly meetup is held at the Nature Park Seafood Village [/color] NOTE: I will lock this thread, cos the map is for reference purpose only. http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel...&star=1&level=5 Map sourced by: Bobcatsysop [inline Bishan_Friday_meetup.jpg] http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=13580;

some interesting reply from driving school in the news. Still quite contradictory. http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/forum/sto...,222985,00.html? Dos and don'ts when driving automatic cars I REFER to Mr Goh Kian Beng's letter, 'Confused by driving instructors' (ST, Nov 26). When driving an auto-matic car, it is not necessary to shift the gear lever from 'D' (Drive) to 'N' (Neutral) when coming to a stop. Doing so will accelerate the wear on the transmission as a result of the constant gear engagement and disengagement. Automatic-transmission cars are designed to be kept in the 'D' position when stopping for short periods of time. In the event that traffic comes to a halt, especially during peak periods, drivers of automatic cars may wish to apply the neutral gear as it can be physically draining to apply the foot brake through-out long periods of standstill. However, it is important to note that the hand-brake has to be engaged as a safety precaution to prevent unnecessary movement when the car is stationary. We thank Mr Goh for his feedback. He can contact Mr Eddie Heng, our Senior Chief Instructor, on 6848-0638 should he have further questions. Hi, Just curious to find out from you guys. Have you wonder why the centre teaches parking using the black and white guide poles? I understand way back it was the trend but now it seem like it's not really the most effective methods? They should fix up some fake car bumpers or whatever to simulate actual scenarios as to simulate vertical or parallel parking in between other vehicles. I believe most of us that passed from the centres have to spent sometimes to orientate ourselves to park in car parks or parallel lots without the guide poles. Guess they do that to squeeze more money from the trainees as when we pass the test , the sales personnel will approach us with the freshie driver orientation course that teaches us parking without poles and driving up multi-storey carparks and the course cost another couples bucks to register. Shouldn't this be include in the lessons? BTW, anyone have any comments to share or any effective methods for parking without the aid of guide poles. Cheerios

I've just installed a voltmeter and it shows 13.x to 14 during driving. However, I notice that when picking up from stop at traffic light, sometimes it'll drop to 12V holding consistently until I reach cruising speed... why is this so ?

I was sure it was not one of ours...but then, like the weather, you could not be sure right? Reckless driving on ECP by 'rally cars' , ST Forum 11 August 2003 I WAS riding my motorcycle on the East Coast Parkway at about 8.40am on July 26 when a convoy of five cars, travelling at a very high speed, overtook me. The last car in the convoy was a green sedan driven by a young woman. She had three passengers and everyone in the car wore cream-coloured baseball caps. About a minute later, I noticed two cars coming from behind, also at great speed. One was a sedan while the other was a white sports utility vehicle. The green sedan driven by the young woman swerved into lanes of traffic, which was rather heavy, without any indication. She cut from lane one to lane three, then back to lane one. The white SUV, which I think was a Lexus R300, did much the same thing. Hoping to get the licence plate number of at least one of the cars, I tried to catch up but decided against it after realising that they were travelling way in excess of the speed limit. However, I did gather that the seven cars were taking part in an organised rally because they all had decals. The only word I could see on the decals was 'wheels'. Not only were the cars travelling at a dangerous speed but some of them were also being driven practically bumper to bumper. My question is, do the organisers of car rallies put a time limit on these events which causes participants to drive the way these drivers were doing? Are they even aware of the danger they cause? On at least one occasion, a vehicle had to brake suddenly when one of the convoy cars cut in front of it. Can the relevant authorities look into this matter and perhaps even involve themselves more in such events? This is not the first time I have seen such a thing happening and it is unlikely to be the last. Will it take a major accident before something is done about it? PATRICK ERNEST FERNANDO

What's the fastest you've driven up the NS and also wat is the highest speed recorded when U kena caught by M'sian TP? My personal quickest was ~235kmh, top speed test but ran out of road, was going for 245-250kmh. Sustained 160-200kmh from KL to Sin, 2.5hours trip. So far lady luck with me, no tickets or bribes yet. My dad did get caught for 140kmh before, not worth it lah. If going to get caught might as well go faster Not how lian-ing ok? Just sharing my little experiences, I'm sure more kakis here have zoomed up and down countless times.

hi folks, i was juz playing around with my DSA switch & I found out that with DSA OFF the T4 feels different. What do you other folks do with your cars which has the same sorts of technology? I wonder if having it on or off will affect fuel economy. I figure city driving is going to be stop/start/spurt/slow driving, DSA isn't going to be of use. Volvo folks tell me to leave it ON. My bimmer frens too. Saaber suggested I turn it off I think when we last met. Other views/opinions appreciated. thanks

Hey Guys .... I need your help and advice. My Peugeot driveshaft is nearing its end ..... there is the usual click clack sound when I pull into reverse parking. I am thinking of having it replaced. However, I need to drive to KL tonight. Do you think its ok ? Just dun wanna suffer drive shaft failure on the North South Highway. What do you think ..... can I drive up or should I just take a flight ?? I prefer to drive if possible. Wont' be speeding - just around 130 kph max .....

Hi guys, just wanna share with u some of the off road driving i just had in gold coast....it was really exhilerating....a totally different of driving skills required off the road.....as u know that on normal tarmac, traction is never a problem but once off the tarmac and onto gravel.....it's a total different driving skills, where u have to balance your car very well....especially braking, controlling the car mass, requires alot of torque but reasonable horsepower....too much is dangerous as well....have to really control the car very well in late braking and counter steering.....even had a feel of Initial D, doing some drifting.....but all i can say is that the new Rex has a better handling off the road...... here are just some of the pictures of my one day thrill in two different WRXs.....the feeling is SHIOK!!!
