  1. This is an election for new moderators to join the moderating team. Because moderators have added responsibilities and are vested with more power, we would like all stakeholders of MCF to have their voices heard in the selection. The selection process starts with the current moderators drawing up a shortlist of nominees. An online “election” open to all MCF members will then be held to choose the final 2 candidates that will join the moderating team. We have chosen some nominees and PM them for acceptance to step up to the role should they get elected. Here are the shortlisted nominees that have accepted their nomination. The 2 nominees with the highest votes will be appointed as a moderator. The elections will close on 7-Oct. @Bavarian @Jman888 @Watwheels <Editted 16-Oct-2014> The voting has closed. Results as below.

  5. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1151857/1/.html PAP needs to reflect on General Election: PM Lee By S Ramesh | Posted: 08 September 2011 1610 hrs SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the People's Action Party needs to adjust its policies to serve the people better, and that the party also needs to improve on its engagement and outreach to involve Singaporeans much more on the issues affecting them. Mr Lee said: "We have to be active in listening, as well as in putting our message across, and in countering mistaken views and disinformation." Mr Lee, who is also the PAP's Secretary General, made these observations in the latest issue of Petir, the party's magazine. The editorial comes in the wake of the party's performance in the last General Election, having won 81 out of 87 seats. He said the ruling People's Action Party must reflect on the meaning of the May 7 General Election, and strengthen and reinvent itself to maintain a leading role in Singapore politics. He also said the party must also strengthen its presence in cyberspace and learn to use the new media more effectively. This meant not just going onto Facebook and Twitter, but being on the same wavelength as the netizens and resonating with the Internet generation. That way, the MPs and leaders can continue serving the widest spread of society and work with all citizens to shape the new Singapore together. Mr Lee said constituency work also remains crucial, as a caring, hardworking and effective MP, backed by a strong team of activists and the party, can make the difference. He said this was clear in the General Election as MPs who had worked hard, enjoyed strong support. As for the opposition wards, Mr Lee urges the PAP to maintain its presence, keep the branch active and take care of supporters and fight hard to win back the constituency. Mr Lee added: "Fundamentally, we need to get Singaporeans to see the PAP for what it is and what it has always been - their champion, acting on their behalf, working with them and for them." So the Prime Minister's call to his party activists is to stay united in the cause and fight tenaciously to create a better tomorrow for all Singaporeans. -CNA/ac
  6. Hmm... this looks interesting.... a 1 year temporary position, with mention of election administration and work extended hours during election period..... Does it mean that GE will come earlier than 2016? I am sure one of the key objectives of PAP is to recapture the GRC lost, so maybe they will try to call for the next GE before the issues clouding AHPTC can be settled. Maybe that is also why we are going to have more COEs soon? anyway, just plain speculation :p http://careers-gov-jobs.jobstreet.com.sg/jobs/jobdesc.asp?aid=1&jid=91068774 Position Training Facilitator (Temporary for 1 year) Organisation Elections Department Date Posted Thursday, April 17, 2014 Application Deadline Saturday, May 17, 2014 Location 11 Prinsep Link,Singapore 187949 No. of Vacancies 2 Elections Department is a department under the Prime Minister’s Office. 7. Since I saw someone posted about wish list for soccer, I thought maybe I can start a wish list for election swing voters. As usual, there will be die hard PAP supporters, and there will be hardcore opposition supporters. For these two groups of voters, please take your battle to where it is suppose to be. There is a thread started by @Radx for election battle, please fight there. http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2696413-the-next-general-elections-post-here/page-25 It is no secret that many elections around the world are won or lost because of the swing voters, these people are not fully supportive of one party only, and they vote base on what they believe is best for the country and themselves. The key lies in how to reach out to this group of voters. It seem like the government is not too interested in this group of voters, so let us tell them, how they can lost our votes ( or how the opposition can win us over). I feel that our government is a good manager, but not a good politician. Generally I am quite happy, there are good policies introduced, and there are bad ones. What I really want to see , is that they can admit whatever mistakes done, get it corrected and move on. It takes a great politician to admit mistakes, sometimes mistakes bring in votes. The era is different, things are different, people are different. Those (swing voters) who want to share your thoughts, come on in. cheers!!!
  8. He needs election .... He can just remove any person like squashing an ant with his index finger ... yahoo news : North Korea holds election, Kim Jong Un runs in legendary district SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea, accused of human rights violations, elects its largely symbolic parliament this weekend, with leader Kim Jong Un, the third in his family dynasty to rule the totalitarian state, running unopposed in a legendary mountain district. State news agency KCNA said on Thursday that election preparations were "gaining momentum", with voters confirming their names on electoral lists for the ballot held every five years. "Agitation activities are going on to encourage citizens to take active part in the election with high political enthusiasm and labour feats, amid the playing of 'Song of the election,'" KCNA reported. North Koreans, it said, sought to "demonstrate once again the might of single-minded unity by casting ballots for their candidates". North Korea stands accused by a U.N. report issued this month of torture and killings comparable to Nazi-era atrocities. Authorities in Pyongyang have denounced the report as "faked". The North's Supreme People's Assembly is empowered by law to approve the budget and make senior appointments, including to the powerful National Defence Commission. In practice, it is a largely symbolic body meeting twice a year in a country where decision-making authority lies with the ruling Korean Workers' Party. Each district has a single candidate, with the overwhelming majority from the party, although a few independents, such as pro-Pyongyang Koreans from Japan, are allowed to take part. more stories, link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/north-korea-holds-election-kim-jong-un-runs-123900282.html "running unopposed in a legendary mountain district" ..... ha..ha..ha.... can animals in mountain district file papers to vote against him meh ... 9. Food colouring, not chemicals, was in the indelible ink used in the general election, the Election Commission (EC) admitted today in the Dewan Rakyat. "No chemical was used in the ink but it was instead replaced with permitted food colouring," said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim in his reply to Segambut Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng. His statement was in stark contrast with the EC's claim that it used silver nitrate in the ink. He said the absence of the required chemical was the reason the ink was easily washed off. Shahidan also said that the expiry date of the ink was four months from the date it was issued but blamed voters for purposely trying to wash off the ink as the reason why it was not permanent. "How long the ink remains depends on the individual and the efforts put in to wash it off." In a written response, Shahidan also told the Dewan Rakyat that RM6.9 million had been spent on the ink, with an additional RM200,000 spent on transportation, packaging and storage, bringing the total expenditure to RM7.1 million. He added that the EC did not plan to release information related to the suppliers for security reasons. Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had urged voters to lodge police reports on polling day after many of them showed how easily the ink could be washed off their fingers. EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof also announced the formation of a special task force to investigate the reasons why it could be easily washed off. Barisan Nasional won 133 parliamentary seats in the May 5 polls, 21 seats more than the 112 required to form a simple majority government. However, this was BN's smallest win since the country achieved independence in 1957. Pakatan Rakyat continues to refuse to accept the results and point to the fact that it had won 51% of the popular vote compared with BN's 48 %. PR has also filed 39 election petitions to challenge the results in 25 parliamentary and 14 state seats where BN won by small majorities. Despite the protests against the outcome of the polls, the EC insisted that it had carried out the elections in a fair manner, pointing out that the highest ever voter attendance of 84.84% was evidence of confidence in the electoral process. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/indelible-ink-not...-091953150.html
  10. Mods, I've checked and all PE by-elections thread are locked. So have to start a new thread. After many months of waiting, the verdict is out. Police issues stern warning to SPH and ST editor for Punggol East report Published on Jun 20, 2013 4:36 PM Police on Thursday issued a stern warning to The Straits Times (ST) editor Warren Fernandex and Singapore Press Holdings, over a January report on the Punggol East by-election that was published in the newspaper. By Rachel Chang Police on Thursday issued a stern warning to The Straits Times (ST) editor Warren Fernandex and Singapore Press Holdings, over a January report on the Punggol East by-election that was published in the newspaper. The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) said in a statement on Thursday that the stern warning was issued in lieu of prosecution for the offence of publishing a poll after the writ of election had been issued. The article, headlined "ST Poll: more rooting for PAP," presented the views of 50 Punggol East residents that reporters had interviewed." The publication of polls from the day the writ of election is issued until the close of polling stations on Polling Day is prohibited by the Parliamentary Elections Act. The AGC statement said that the publication of the article "was attributable to neglect on the part of Mr Fernandez." SPH said Mr Fernandez and Mr Patrick Daniel, the editor-in-chief of the media group's English and Malay newspapers division, presented themselves at the Central Police Division earlier in the morning to receive the written warnings. "The Straits Times newsroom co-operated fully with the police during their investigations and accepted that there was an internal lapse that led to the publication of the poll results," said SPH. "It has always been our approach that when we get something wrong, we acknowledge it, put it right, and strive to do better," said Mr Fernandez.

  13. SINGAPORE: A by-election will be held for Punggol East Single-Member Constituency (SMC), after Member of Parliament Michael Palmer resigned over an extra-marital affair. Nomination Day will be held on 16 January 2013. If more than one candidate stand for nominations on Nomination Day, Polling Day will be held on 26 January 2013. The president issued the Writ of Election on Wednesday. The Nomination Place is North Vista Secondary School at Rivervale Link. The Returning Officer is Mr Yam Ah Mee, chief executive director of the People's Association. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1246889/1/.html
  14. I don't know who wrote this. This is the funniest official press release I've seen from any politician! Grammar, analogy, alliteration... EPIC. "That he has risen from the $16000 dead, and has now emerged a Dedicated and Determined Desmond Lim."
  15. My ass says it will be butt doctor. My heart goes to LLL.
  16. Any thoughts? The President of Singapore, Tony Tan, has issued a writ of election for Punggol East constituency with Nomination Day being next Wednesday, the16th of January. If more than one candidate is nominated, Polling Day will take place later this month on the 26th of January. The Punggol East seat was left vacant after MP Michael Palmer stepped down due to an extra-marital affair last month. Pasir Ris-Punggol MP, Teo Ser Luck, has been standing in as caretaker MP in recent weeks. PM Lee said in a statement on Wednesday that he advised the President to call the by-election quickly as it was important that Punggol residents "can have their own MP in Parliament" and because of a "busy national agenda this year". "The White Paper on Population will soon be debated in Parliament. Budget 2013 is around the corner. The Our Singapore Conversation is translating the views of citizens into programmes to improve our lives," he added. The single-seat constituency is expected to be hotly contested with as many as five parties -- including the Workers' Party, Singapore Democratic Party, the Singapore Democratic Alliance and even the Reform Party -- expressing interest in contesting the by-election in recent weeks. On Tuesday, a surprise candidate, 40-year-old surgeon, Dr Koh Poh Koon, may have emerged as the People's Action Party (PAP) choice, after he was seen accompanying Teo during an Meet-the-People session. This is the second by-election is as many years, after Hougang also held a by-election last year, which Workers' Party member Png Eng Huat won decisively over PAP candidate Desmond Choo. But this time around, Punggol East is seen as a stronghold for the PAP, going by the last general election results in May 2011 when Palmer defeated WP candidate, Lee Li Lian, by a convincing 54.5 percent to 41 percent of votes. A third candidate, Singapore Democratic Alliance's Desmond Lim received 4.4 percent of votes. However, analysts Yahoo! Singapore spoke to last month said that if the contest were to be a straight fight between the WP and PAP, the former could be seen as favourites. "This is a competitive seat with a three-corner fight last round. A one-on-one contest will make this a potentially winnable seat for the opposition," said Bridget Welsh, associate professor in Political Science at Singapore Management University (SMU). Meanwhile, Punngol-East resident Syed Muhammad, 25, welcomed the possibility of a multi-party contest. "I believe that it is a good idea to let the 5 parties compete as our PM mentioned in his statement he wants us (residents) to vote for the best MP to represent us. By having as many as five parties contest, I believe residents will be able to wisely consider who is best suited for the job," he said. Another resident, Nadh, a 25-year-old freelance designer, welcomed the timing of the by-election. "I like how they are acting fast to get a replacement for Palmer. I don't think it's too rushed because residents here just want a fast solution," he said.
