  2. SINGAPORE : For the quarter starting in October, electricity tariffs for households will go up by 12.5 per cent or 2.41 cents to 21.69 cents per kilowatt-hour. SP Services said the increase is due largely to significantly higher fuel oil prices over the last three months, which increased by around 21 per cent to S$92.03 per barrel. It added that this brings the fuel oil price to around the level in the first quarter of this year. This is the second quarter tariffs have gone up, after they dipped in the first two quarters of this year. In July, tariffs went up by 7 per cent. Starting from July, the Energy Market Authority used a new formula of calculating tariffs, which takes an average price from the three months in the previous quarter, instead of the first month of the previous quarter. - CNA Due to F1?
  3. The power monopoly announces that electricity tariff will go up next month (later this week to be exact) due to increases in oil / fuel prices? Question: Aren't our electricity generated by use of natural gas? The trend of natural gas prices have been going downhill since a year back. http://www.wtrg.com/daily/gasprice.html So is this the same old kind of reason we given to accept??? ** Most likely the announcement will be published in a small obscured section in the papers. 6. MELBOURNE - Australian wildfire survivors have launched a lawsuit against a Singapore-owned electricity firm alleging a downed power line sparked one of the blazes, it was reported Sunday. Kinglake residents are launching a class action against SP Ausnet and the Victoria state government claiming the power line set off a fire near the town that killed at least 100 people, The Age newspaper said. The newspaper said police investigating the causes of the fires had removed a length of fallen cable and a power pole as evidence. The firm reportedly handling the class action, Melbourne-based Slidders Lawyers, on its website urges residents affected by the bushfires to contact it and seek compensation. SP Ausnet, part of the Singapore Power Group, refused to comment directly on the lawsuit, saying its priority was restoring power to fire-affected areas as quickly as possible.
