  1. The S%*t has hit the fan in Thailand! All travellers to Bangkok be warned! Bangkok in State of Emergency
  2. hi, my friend going to Bangkok next Wednesday but today PM declared a state of emergency. Although he bought JetCover Travel Insurance together with the airfare, he wanna check if cancel the trip will the travel insurance cover it? Any advise is appreciated..
  3. Hi I am organizing a family outing to Senai, hotel, what are the usual emergency numbers to call, breakdown vehicle, etc.....we have a convoy of about 15 cars. Any advise is welcome. TIA!
  4. Hi , was wandering around some forum and saw this , guess it might be useful for bro who drive up to genting or always go pump petrol . ________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________
  5. SG drivers are proving to be a socially underdeveloped bunch. Just last week I was at work in the evening when I heard a siren blasting non stop - ( must have been a huge emergency) - I looked down my office window and saw an ambulance stuck in traffic. It was only after about 1 minute of non stop siren blasting that some cars in front of it reluctantly gave way - then what happened? >>> SOME AXXHOLE ( driving Honda Airwave) cut into the open space meant for the ambulance!!! Bad karma sir! - what goes around - WILL come around
  6. What kind of electrical/mechanical response is expected from a modern car (automatic gear) when the driver suddenly press the foot brake really hard while the car is moving? I had to do an emergency brake earlier and the hear a quick "klok klok" sound then notice that the gear is shifted to "Neutral". Is this normal? In my 7 years of driving, this is probably the first time i have to do an emergency full brake. .. just missed the car in front by probably an inch. The speed is not too high (may be 50 km/hr) as i just completed a right turn. Any "emergency brake" experience to share?
  7. Hi all. I was reading some posts & realised many bros here don't know there is an int'l emergency number to dial when overseas. Just dial 112 on your mobile phone & it will automatically connect u to the nearest police station. I hope this info is useful to u guys & gals. Cheers
  8. This evening around 5.30pm after BKE towards SLE saw 2 normal plates vehicles rushing through Lane 1 on the right. The front one was a BMW with flashing blue/green/red lights below the bonnet. It was followed closely by a Merc behind with the Hazard light on. Both were seen rushing on lane 1 forcing their front vehicles to lane 2. Any ideas whose are these guys ?
  9. http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2EMKft33-1000.html From the driver's seat of the BMW 735, if you look up to the centre of the roof, you will see an emergency switch that is concealed by a piece of plastic, pasted by Performance Mtrs. This is supposed to be an emergency switch that drivers can press in case of emergency. In places like Germany, this switch, upon activation is linked to the local Police. Anyone knows why this switch is inactive in Singapore? Can special arrangements be made to link it to the Police or CISCO upon activation? Is a special permit needed? Thread drifters and trouble makers are not welcome!
  10. From icecontact.com.. thought it is quite useful. =) A Cambridge-based paramedic has launched a national campaign with Vodafone to encourage people to store emergency contact details in their mobile phones. Bob Brotchie, a clinical team leader for the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust, hatched the plan last year after struggling to get contact details from shocked or injured patients. By entering the acronym ICE
  11. First of all, I know the Golden Rule is Do Not Speed. So please restrain yourself from posting "Dont Speed In The First Place" or whatever and end it. Does any bro here have any tips on braking lets say, from 100km/hr to nil within a very short distance? My dad once told me to slightly release the pressure on the brake pedal when you get the "feeling" of skidding and I found it very useful. Used it once. My personal thinking is to steer slightly to either sides (obviously not endangering the cars on either sides) to travel a few centimetres more before the target feeling that puny distance would save me. Any tips to share?
  12. I noticed one very very bad habit in Singaporean drivers : We do not actively make way for emergency vehicles on their way to rescue or help people like us. For those who have seen accident victims lying on the road waiting for help to arrive, or heart attack patient gasping for air, you'll know how important every second is. Twice this week I saw an ambulance with flashing lights being held up behind cars, one on the CTE behind road hogger and one in a long row of cars waiting for traffic lights. I think we should make a big effort to move out of the way, even if traffic in front is blocked we should gradually make some space for the ambulances etc to squeeze through so they can make their way to the front of the queue. In other more "developed" countries, the cars actually pull over to the kerbs and sidewalks so the emergency vehicles can get pass. Why here so differnt ? The next emergency vehicle you see may be on their way to help one of your own. ( touch wood la ) TP should start a campaign to educate people more.
  13. After reading the detailing forums by the professionals, they advised this kit: 1 US gal container of pure water (4L to you and me) 1 Spray detailer 1 terry cloth 1 MF cloth 1 spot remover 1 box tissues Optional: baby wipes This is for the immediate removal of bird droppings or bug impact craters ASAP. 1. Always inspect your car always when you park in the open. 2. Wet tissue or if have baby wipes use baby wipes. Let it sit on the impact for a while to absorb. 3. Wipe off. Spray detailer on it. Wipe with terry then buff with MF. Spot remover is for stains in the car if you got kids spilling drink in the interior. Car ownership very siong, huh?
  14. Have any one try the can of the emergency repair kit sold in most petrol kiosk? Was thinking of removing the spare tyres and use this for Singapore; (of course need spare tyre for trip up north!). What do you think? Am I nut to do so? Thankszzzzz
