  1. Good news for fans of Mazda. The Japanese company has announced that it is working a new family of straight-six Skyactiv-X engines for its premium models. Mazda made the announcement during an investor conference and said that the engines will come in both petrol and diesel variants. This comes as a surprise as this is Mazda's first foray into having a straight-six engine in its line up. The new engines will make use of the brand’s Spark Controlled Compression Ignition technology that will be seen in the new Mazda 3 and also be compatible with mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies. The company didn’t provide a timeline for the powertrains just yet, nor did it discuss what kind of models will use it. Moving forward, it is safe to assume that this move will see Mazda try to move up into the premium market with larger models running both rear and all-wheel drive drivetrains.
  2. Porsche has been testing for quite some time now the new GT4 version of the 718 Cayman. And it appears that there will be more six-cylinder models coming to the mid-engine Boxster and Cayman range. According to Carscoops, Porsche has been spotted at the 'Ring with a 718 Boxster and Cayman and they sounded different from the four-cylinder turbocharged units present in the current 718 lineup. Other than the upcoming track-focused GT4, Porsche might be installing the same 4.0-liter flat-six unit from the 911 GT3 into “Touring” versions of the Spyder and GT4 models respectively. Porsche has worked hard and managed to make the naturally aspirated flat-six compliant with the latest Euro 6d emission regulations without sacrificing power. Reports have suggested that the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder will put out around 425bhp while the Touring models will get it with around 380bhp.
  3. Last year, Nismo, Nissan's performance division, announced that said it would begin reproducing parts for some heritage models. And now we have some more good news for the Nissan enthusiasts. The Japanese company has just announced that it will expanding its heritage parts support even further by putting its legendary RB26 engine back into production. Born in the golden age of the 1980s and 1990s, the engine can be found in the R32 till R34-generation of the Skyline GT-R. With the ability to withstand significant power upgrades (more than 800bhp) from bolt-ons without the need for any significant internal modifications, the engine is a favourite among Japanese sports car enthusiasts and tuners. With the latest expansion of its restoring program, Nismo has further support for the R32 generation Skyline by being able to reproduce RB26 parts such as the actual short block and head. It is also reproducing the original engine harness, fuel pump assembly. Elsewhere, you can also buy a new roof and three-quarter panels too.

  6. It was only a matter of time. This, ladies and gentlemen, will decimate all. Welcome to the first new A90 Toyota Supra that’s had its BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbo swapped out for that engine: Toyota’s 2JZ from the Mk IV Supra. Champion Japanese drifter Daigo Saito is the man who has done the honourable thing by dragging the Supra right back to the Nineties, building this special drift A90 for the upcoming D1 Grand Prix. It’ll be unveiled in full in a couple of weeks’ time, but for now, we have a couple of details. Such as the 2JZ straight-six heart producing a nice, healthy 800bhp with help from turbo specialists HKS. And the fact the entire build took just 42 days, “unheard of before”, according to its builders. “I’m so happy to be able to convert Supra into a drift car for the first time in the world,” explains an exuberant Saito-san. He notes the car’s short wheelbase and compact body allow him to control it more “freely”. We suspect having a turbo straight-six with 800bhp makes it feel quite free also.
  7. Reviews of the new Toyota GR Supra have barely been out but someone has already swapped the new Supra’s BMW engine for the legendary 2JZ engine found in the MK4 Supra. It was only a matter of time and no, there is no prize for guessing which country did it first. If you haven't guessed it, its Japan's Daigo Saito. A professional drifter known for his spectacular drift cars, Saito has since built a crazy Lamborghini Murcielago and a Ferrari 599 GTB for his drifting pleasure. Details are scarce for the moment but the photos he uploaded on social media allows us to see that he added an additional rear-mounted radiator for extra cooling capacity. Of course, it is fully stripped out for maximum weight savings and it looks like it will be getting some really large fenders to cover those wide tyres. Interestingly, Saito mentioned that the new Supra is a good base for a drift car as it has a short wheelbase and compact body, allowing it be easy to control during drifts. He also reckoned it would be easier and cheaper to run too. Said to produce around 800bhp, the 2JZ-GTE equipped A90 GR Supra took just 42 days to develop and build and is set to make its first public appearance on 23rd March in Tokyo at the D1 Grand Prix All-Star Shoot Out.

  17. Thinking of giving my engine compartment a cleanup, it's dusty and a little greasy. How do u guys do it? What solution do i use for this? Do i need to cover/wrap up certain parts? Heard that some car wash offer engine wash by spraying water directly at the compartment, is it advisable to do that or is better to use a rag to clean it? Pardon my long list of questions.
  18. Not sure anyone has the same problem. My 9 yr old latio AT sedan been giving me concern. While driving, it has suddenly seem to go into neutral while the gear is in "drive". What happens is the engine suddenly just revs but no power goes to the wheels. Macham neutral. Sometimes I just need to wait a while and Power comes back. But twice I had to roll to a complete stop, off engine and restart. Any ideas or experience anyone? ?

  20. Hi bros, can feel my car vibrating when at idle in the morning before moving off. This is even after the "engine temp cold" light goes off. After driving around for 5-10min and when at traffic light the car do not vibrate anymore, totally still, almost can't feel engine on. Is there some other fluids thats not warmed up yet tat cause the pre-move-off-at-idle vibration? Or is it time to change engine mount anyhow? Its a 1.6M Hyundai Getz.
  21. Hello brothers, Just wondering if it is ok to mix engine oil? Example, I check dip stick, oil is abit low, but still got quite a bit to go b4 next servicing. Like currently I m using Motul E.O, but if i use another brand to top up. Wont have much negative effect right?
  22. Where to buy cheap and good engine oil? Any Brand or Place to recommend?
  23. Of late, my last few checks on my engine oil dipstick showed that my engine oil level has increased. This was first discovered about a month ago. There are 2 tips on the dipstick. I noticed that since last month, the oil level has exceeded the upper tip of the dipstick. First check was in the morning when the engine was cold for more than 8 hours since the car was parked the night before. Did 2 further checks over the course of last few weeks. Level was above the upper tip. The increase was not slightly or too much during those cold or room temperature. There was also no oil leakage found. However, when the car was driven and parked for a few hours, the oil level exceeded the upper tip by a bigger length (of course engine was still slightly hot and this is understandable). Not sure whether this should be cause for concern. I know that if oil level drops, we need to take note or go workshop to top up by the same grade and brand engine oil. But for my case, it increases..... I am using OWS NA engine oil. No grade was stated. First time trying this oil. Been using it for more than 8,500km mileage. My car's mileage is more than 86,000 km. Hope to have some views from knowledgeable bros in this forum. Thanks!
