  2. Anyone change their engine mounting before? What is the damage? I called a few workshop, the price is in the range of $400 ~ $500. What is buy parts here and fix them in JB? If yes, which workshop in JB offer good workmanship? Thanks all sifus...
  3. In a recent world rating, Audi ,BMW,Mini and volkswagen is rank among the most unreliable engine. View this URL for more infomation : http://www.autoevolution.com/news/audi-volkswagen-bmw-and-mini-record-worst-engine-failure-rates-54182.html
  4. Check this out guys ... it's sold in Japan. Simple concept, just mount in onto your oil filter and it's blade will help cool the oil filter down. Just a simple heat sink concept. Maybe a few CPU heatsink mount together also can ;-)
  5. I think there must be a engine internal oil leakage causing oil from somewhere? in the upper parts of the engine to very slowly leak down into the sump. But what could that be ? ? ? It's an Astra-G with a Isuzu 1.7 diesel, fairly standard/simple engine I think. It does have a turbo, and a EGR valve. There's no other faults or symptoms. The Haynes? book says I should measure the oil level 10 minutes after halting, so that's what I've done, and it's half a liter above min (or half a liter below max if you like) 10 minutes after halting. But if I then come back a couple of hours later, it's aprox half a liter above max ! ? ? I'm fairly sure it was not like that before, and this is my second Astra with this engine. Before this I had oil and filter change of course. Could it be one of the oil filter gaskets ? Or a not quite compatible filter ?. Also before this, I had a too high oil level so I sucked out a little bit using a break fluid vacum pump/hose through the dip-stick (simple and easy). And at the same time before this I had an EGR-error indication, so I had the EGR out (for the second time), cleaned it, tested it, and put it back in. If that was because of too much oil or just ordinary usage I don't know. It's quite a bit of work and I had to do it a couple of years before as well, so I'm generally taking care not to have too much oil on the engine. But I don't measure the volume I pour into it. I just fill it up and check the dip-stick. ... So maybe that's how I got too much. So now, I'm using the car with maybe half a liter too much, but if I check it 10 minutes after halting, it's just perfect. There's no other faults ! ...... Power and performance is o.k. / as normal, and coolant level is steady an nice,... there's no other symptoms that I know of. The level is always the same (except as mentioned). These Y17DT engines (of which this is my second) both had oil leakage from the cam shaft sealing (and possibly some of the other seals as well), causing the register belt to be soaked in oil (but still running though), so for both I had to change the seals, and thereafter I generally didn't have any problems with the engine. Except for the Astra-G version which had a seal in the generator as well (between the vacum pump and the generator) that was of course leaking as well, and this #¤%" EGR on the Astra-G, and the ECM needing replacement on the Astra-G,... but the engine itself is, apart from this, generally quite nice. By the way, also now (and not before),... there is oil long up the dip stick after taking it out, and I have to clean it lower it and pull it up again. I don't think it was like that before. ?. ............

  10. Hi, I have a few occassions when the fan kept running after I had shut down the engine. The first time it happened, I just turned on the engine for 1 min to shift my car. When I shut it down, I can see the fan turning. I turn on and off the engine again and it was gone. The 2nd time happened when I was using the car battery (engine not on) to vacuum. After I shut everything down, the fan remained. After about 5 mins, it went off. The 3rd time happened when I shut down the engine and turned it on again after 2mins. I drove it for about 100m before shutting down. The fan remained and I had to restart the engine and shut down again. Anyone had similar experience? Is this normal? My MK6 Jetta is the non-sport version.
  11. Hi guys! I am driving a 07' Latio. My aircon been making a hissing noise for awhile, went to workshop, change my cooling coil and all is great. 12. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/vehicles-with-illegal-mods-to-undergo-more-frequent-inspections SINGAPORE - From next month (Nov 1), motorists caught with illegally-modified engines or exhaust systems in their vehicles for a second or subsequent time will be subjected to more frequent mandatory vehicle inspections. Under this enhanced inspection regime, second-time offenders will be required to bring their vehicles for mandatory inspections every six months for a period of two years, while third-time or subsequent offenders will need to bring their vehicles for mandatory inspections every three months for a period of two years. This represents a more stringent inspection regime as compared to that for normal vehicles, which are typically inspected once every one or two years, depending on their age and type. "Any owner who does not comply with the inspection regime is guilty of an offence and can be fined up to $1,000 or jailed for up to three months on conviction for the first offence," the Land Transport Authority said in a statement Wednesday (Oct 28). "On conviction for a second or subsequent offence of failing to comply, the maximum penalty will be doubled." This latest move will complement existing penalties to deter motorists from modifying their vehicle engines or exhaust systems illegally. Any person who is convicted of an illegal modification can be fined up to $2,000 or jailed for up to three months, for the first offence. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to six months. In addition, if a vehicle is found with a tampered engine, it will need to be deregistered and the owner may not be granted scrap rebates. The LTA said illegal modifications can create serious safety and environmental hazards. Once a vehicle's engine or exhaust system is modified without due certification and approval, the existing vehicle components may not be able to handle the increased power or speed. Such modifications may also affect the durability and reliability of a vehicle. Currently, motorists may choose to legally install aftermarket exhaust systems that are certified to be suitable for the specific vehicle make and model. These exhaust systems, which are specifically designed and engineered for a particular vehicle make and model, will have undergone testing either by the vehicle manufacturer or by independent test laboratories, to ensure compliance with internationally recognised standards.

  14. Juz serviced my old car, '89 Civic GL. Mechanic told me my engine sump drain plug internal screw thread no good already, thus always have oil drips. I told him to fix it but he said its a big job. Have to get new oil sump, then remove old sump and fix it back. Sounds easy??? There are a few items in way of the sump so its not going to be easy. Also will cost quite a lot to get new oil sump, gasket and drain plug. Anyone got any workshop who can re-tap the screw thread in situ and then machine a new drain plug for it??? I know this can be done, but must find the correct workshop. Please help my car is dripping wherever I go. I scare later 1 day the thread no more then the whole drain plug drop out, that will be in deep sh!t.
  15. Dear All, workshop told me that I need to change engine mounting. and quota 1100SGD. Is that reasonable? Mechanics said it can be done by next service (dec'14). However the car is already 7 y/o, i would rather do it soooner than later if I have to do it eventually before 10 years Any suggestion? thank you

  19. Hello.. Need some advices. One day, I off my car engine for a while (maybe around ten minutes) to buy some things, and when I push start the engine, it shows a weak cranking and the dashboard lights up showing the battery and the oil warning light. Try second pressing the start switch and the car engine starts. This happens twice and the second time is after a fuel pumping. This car is now 168000km. What can be wrong? The battery and starter switch is checked OK. Thanks for the help
  20. Need help here. Is this normally caused by faulty Supercharger ? If not, what need to be fixed ? Thanks in advance.
  21. May I know is there any specific brand of coolant that is recommended for use on the Vezel ? Which type of coolant do you use. A lot of important parts is made of plastic on the Vezel if you have noticed to make the engine lighter. e.g. Manifold , etc.. These plastic parts are not the cover for the metal parts in engines of the past.
