My Sunny coming 10 years in next 2 weeks. Had LTA inspection and passed with advice that I change the rusty muffler as the sound will get louder over time. Now that I have renewed my COE, I would like to change the muffler. Any one got advice and the price for the change? Many thanks. I can live with the sound as it does not affect my fuel consumption or any function. But I have 10 years to go from 1 Jul and best I change now. I am prepared to change in JB.

Under this enhanced inspection regime, second-time offenders will be required to bring their vehicles for mandatory inspections every six months for a period of two years, while third-time or subsequent offenders will need to bring their vehicles for mandatory inspections every three months for a period of two years. This represents a more stringent inspection regime as compared to that for normal vehicles, which are typically inspected once every one or two years, depending on their age and type. "Any owner who does not comply with the inspection regime is guilty of an offence and can be fined up to $1,000 or jailed for up to three months on conviction for the first offence," the Land Transport Authority said in a statement Wednesday (Oct 28). "On conviction for a second or subsequent offence of failing to comply, the maximum penalty will be doubled." This latest move will complement existing penalties to deter motorists from modifying their vehicle engines or exhaust systems illegally. Any person who is convicted of an illegal modification can be fined up to $2,000 or jailed for up to three months, for the first offence. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to six months. In addition, if a vehicle is found with a tampered engine, it will need to be deregistered and the owner may not be granted scrap rebates. The LTA said illegal modifications can create serious safety and environmental hazards. Once a vehicle's engine or exhaust system is modified without due certification and approval, the existing vehicle components may not be able to handle the increased power or speed. Such modifications may also affect the durability and reliability of a vehicle. Currently, motorists may choose to legally install aftermarket exhaust systems that are certified to be suitable for the specific vehicle make and model. These exhaust systems, which are specifically designed and engineered for a particular vehicle make and model, will have undergone testing either by the vehicle manufacturer or by independent test laboratories, to ensure compliance with internationally recognised standards.- 74 replies

I've seen many buses operating on roads with huge black fumes coming out from exhaust. Will you report them? On 2nd thought it's a wise move to keep quiet cause 1) car park prices just increased 2) the last thing we would want is public transport to increase

Can't afford a Zonda but still want that V12 shriek? No worries, a late 90's Mercedes-Benz S600, SL600 or CL600 and some nice exhaust will solve your problem nicely. For those who know their Mercedes stuff well, you will probably know that the Zonda C12, uses the same unfettled 6.0-litre M120 engine that was found in these large cars from Mercedes. Or there is also the smaller but newer M137 5.8-litre ones that came after the M120. However, I am not sure if there are any such variants left around locally. Anyone seen an early W220 S600 lately? Anyway, if you do happen to have a S/CL/SL600 with you, then get onto Techincal Garage Sasaki's Facebook page and drop them a message saying you want one of their custom made exhaust systems. It comprises of a equal length manifold, front pipe with racing catalytic converter and a centre pipe. Of course it will not be cheap. Nearly $S12,000 to be exact. So is it worth it? If I have one of those uncommon models of cars where they do not sell approved aftermarket exhausts, if the installed aftermarket exhaust looks similar to the original oem one, what would give me away? For those that have been caught before, what do LTA look out for? the sound? size? or are they so familiar with various types of exhausts that they can tell straight away?

Hi All I need advised I just bought a 2nd hand car at a car dealer shop but im not aware that the car has a modified exhaust. So 2 month later i was stop by an lta office and told me that my exhaust was modified. The exhaust sound so not loud at all so i asume that it was the air filter as it was knn. After telling the the lta officer, he still want to summon me on the exhaust. I change everything by the next day and when for an inspection and pass. I also have call the car dealer shop and explain but was told to apeal.(choice auto at mekenzie rd) no after service at all. After the apeal the summon was reduce from 500 to 200$. Should i apeal again? As to me i was not my fault. only by the lta officer told me than i know i have a modified exhaust if not only the yearly inspection then i know. Can lta waived all the fine or only still reduce or add back to 500$? If i apeal again. Please advised Thanks Fizzi

While we all know that this year's Formula One 1.6-litre V6 Turbo power units have been criticised for being too soft in terms of volume, some people prefer the quieter and more defined engine note. However, it seems that the FIA, F1's governing body, has decided that the cars need more noise. And Mercedes is possibly the first one with a solution - a flared 'megaphone' exhaust. Sadly, early reports indicate that the new exhaust does not make much of a difference to the volume of the engine.

First time seeing this car on the road, looks very sweet especially with the quad exhaust. The overall body shape looks sleek as well. Is this the 2.4L JDM version? 2.4L in such a small car, surely it is a hoot to drive!

Hi all, I've recently installed a body-kit at the rear and unfortunately, the ABS body-kit at the exhaust muffler melted. Friends who had installed the same ABS rear body-kit did not suffer the same fate as me. I'm trying to troubleshoot the cause and had googled but found no answer. The only recent modification made to my car are the 1) K&N Apollo Closed Air Intake System, 2) Throttle Controller, and 3) Oct 98 Fuel....... As such, any technical gurus here have any possible explaination if one of these mod. may have increased the exhaust temperature or could it be due to any other reason/s ??!!! Thanks !

today operated the exhaust and wife found it too irritating. looking to dump it and put back stock exhaust. where to find stock 08 altis exhaust? how much is it? hopefully not too expensive. performance wise is surprising...the fc inproved a lot and much easier to redline the car .(ofcourse both not at the same time)

Dear guys, Do you experience exhaust smell from your Mini countryman? My sis countryman bought slightly less than a year has this exhaust smell. It's not always but on and off. Went back to agent but couldn't detect anything. Appreciate any feedback. Tks!

Was parking just now in an open-air carpark and reversing butt in and i somehow underestimated the distance between my exhaust pipe and the parking concrete kerb behind. Needless to say, the exhaust hit the kerb and it was quite loud the sound which i could even hear from inside the car. Any damage that i may have done to the poor exhaust? (other than it could be probably be out of shape or position a little bit if there's even such a thing?)

Found my wife's Matrix exhaust badly rusted. Tried VHT paint but work only for a few months and the paint flakes....thinking to galvanise it using galvanising paint. Search from google for more details but found that there are different comment.. Some says cold galvanise doesnt work for exhaust because the zinc will melt beyond 700+ FH..... but the others says that it works very well and easily last for a few yrs... Wanted to check with expert in the forum on their comment before doing anything cause its a very tedious process for DIY preparation work scrub & sand off the existing paint and rust process)for spray paint....
