  1. TL;DR - Too Low to Go, lowered Opel Astra HB's foiled by Woodlands Checkpoint's speed bump Roadblock blues for other commuters, ‘suay’ max for car owner… Watch this 37 second clip to see the disintegrated car exhaust. What Happened? A lowered Opel Astra HB was caught up in an incident at the Woodlands Checkpoint yesterday, after its exhaust system was torn off while attempting to navigate a speed bump. Some netizens commented that the vehicle, which had lowered suspension, was moving slowly towards the checkpoint when the driver failed to clear the speed bump, causing the underside of the car to scrape against the concrete. In a matter of seconds, the car's exhaust was ripped off, sending debris flying. Authorities were quick to respond, with checkpoint staff redirecting traffic and alerting the traffic police. It was alleged that the car's lowered suspension had caused it to be too low to clear the speed bump, resulting in the exhaust system being ripped out. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has warned that vehicle modifications, including lowering the suspension, must comply with safety standards and guidelines, and that failure to do so could result in accidents and injuries. Online Chat If you want to mod your car, at least make sure you’re able to get past all these bumpy roads lah… Not the best idea to drive a lowered car through multiple speed bumps on a congested road. There goes its resale value in future… Low suspension is good for flat roads but doesn’t work well with humps. Hard and expensive lesson to learn. Takeaway The LTA also advised all motorists to exercise caution when approaching speed bumps and to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on a journey. With Hari Raya coming up, the checkpoint authorities have also reminded motorists to plan their journeys carefully and to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and safe. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 2. Hi bros, Bought a 2nd hand car, detected catalytic converter has been cut and welded at STA. Dealer said he will fit back original exhaust for me to pass LTA inspection. What should I do? STA mechanic mentioned in order to pass, they must not see any signs of welding..
  3. Imagine it is the weekend, and all you want is to get some rest in your peaceful, quiet and comfortable house before the workweek starts. BUT NO. In the distance, you hear a low, noisy exhaust burbling sound coming from downstairs your block. And this is what you see: What's the first thought that comes to your mind? Frustration? Anger? Disappointment? You tell me. What Happened? Apparently, this frustrated Bedok resident managed to take a video of this rowdy Audi driver that has constantly disturbed the estate's peace. From afar or a single glance, the car's quad exhaust makes it appear as though the driver is driving an RS3, S3, or even a "Quattro tuned" Audi Sportback. If it were any of those cars, the noisy exhaust would have been understandable. But wait, here comes the twist: That "sports car" is none other than a 1-litre A3 Sportback. Putting Things Into Perspective The Audi A3 1-Litre Sportback has 114BHP and 200 Nm of torque, with 9.9 seconds for its 0 - 100km/h timing. And the fact that a noisy aftermarket exhaust is equipped to this ordinary car definitely poses as an annoyance to Bedok residents. Worse still, it pops and bangs even when its speed is <20km/h. So do you think this Audi A3 has an illegal or LTA approved exhaust? Do you think his exhaust system is "operated"? Netizens' Comments Sooner or later his car sure kena tow to the workshop. What's the point of stretching a 1-Litre engine to its limit? Damn, that escalated quickly. ======== Receive a $10 PayNow transfer for every submission we publish on Facebook! 4. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38036111/ford-patent-exhaust-tips-retractable/ "Retractable Exhaust Tips Star in New Ford Patent The point of the 'exhaust tip retract module,' or ETRM, is to protect it during off-road driving. Don't worry, the "where's the problem, we have a solution" squad over at Ford has been busy, apparently, with figuring out a way to make your truck's exhaust tips disappear. Well, at least retract back into the safety of the rear of the truck when you're going off-roading, for example, in order to allow for better departure angles. The idea is called ETRM, for "exhaust tip retract module," and it appears in an application Ford filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.. It's nuts what some people will hang off of their truck's rear bumper. A new Ford patent shows that strange ideas can be a part of the entire back end of a truck. Say hello to the retractable exhaust tailpipe. While this kind of chrome turtle head has elicited its share of ridicule online, it's not like having an exhaust tip that doesn't stick out as far is a worthless idea. Especially when installed on a truck that is going to see some off-road time, thinking about departure angles is a worthwhile experience. Ford's patent even says a system like this "reduces a probability of vehicle tailpipes contacting a ground surface in an off-road condition." Ford calls this invention the "exhaust tip retract module," or ETRM. The idea here, as Ford takes great pains to point out in its patent application, which was published earlier in October, is not just to extend the tailpipe, but to retract it to protect it. The ETRM "enables the exhaust tips to be retracted a certain length when in an off-road mode in order to take the exhaust tips out of the way and changing the limiting component to be a rear bumper instead of the tips," the application reads, after talking about two other, similar patents for retractable exhaust tips that didn't solve the off-road problem. Ford really thinks it's solving a problem here. What are the benefits of a tailpipe that moves instead of just building the exhaust system so that the tips don't stick out in the first place? you might ask. The obvious answer is that Ford knows how worried some truck drivers are about how they might appear to the outside world if their exhaust tips don't poke out. Or, in Ford's words, "the application of this system does not interfere with the looks, styling, or aesthetics of a vehicle." Ford's ETRM patent was filed in both the U.S. and Europe, according to CarBuzz, which first surfaced the application, so if Ford ever wants to build a real-world ETRM, it might do so on both markets. It is worth noting, though, that a lot of European cars have faux tailpipes due to insurance policies. If the actual tailpipes are too close to the rear bumper, a small rear-end accident can cost more if the exhaust system gets damaged."
  5. NEA to lower vehicle noise levels, tighten motorbike emissions from 2023 Anyone knows what's the current noise level of a stock supercar? How about those LTA-compliant aftermarket exhaust?
  6. A Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe has been caught doing 'Boom Boom Boom' noises in one of the HDB carparks along Hougang Street 61 early in the morning last night. This has not gone well for him as videos of him revving his car that has been tuned to make "pop and crackle" noises has gone viral. s.MP4 According to unnamed sources, it seemed that the green CLA Coupe owner has been approached by home owners staying nearby for the noise pollution and a fight ensued. The police was called in and the CLA owner looked like he has been charged for causing hurt a.k.a Penal Code 323 as we can see from the Whatsapp screenshots. He was intoxicated too but was not charged for drink-driving as his female friend was at the wheel.
  7. TL;DR – Two men argue at a multi-storey carpark because one of them allegedly parked his Mitsubishi Lancer (with a modded exhaust) and revved unnecessarily at five in the morning. Here’s something interesting that SG Road Vigilante just uploaded - Two men arguing over a Mitsubishi Lancer’s modified exhaust. Here’s the video: Boom Boom Boom From the conversation between the two men, we can safely assume there was an exchange of words before the start of the video. The guy taking the video is unhappy with the Lancer driver’s disregard for the neighbours. “Ask you very simple. Be considerate. You come inside here, Boom Boom Boom. You parking here, not moving also you whack whack whack like that. Eh, every morning 5 o’clock you in the morning you do like that you know brother.” Lancer driver The Lancer driver does not address the guy’s concerns. Instead, he focuses on other things “Wah, now video, talk nicely ah? Just now want to play gangster, call police, say I no lan jiao. But now ah, video ah, he talk nicely because he scared I post” Before I continue, let me just put it out there = I did not expect the Lancer driver’s voice to sound like…. that. Not an isolated incident According to the guy taking the video, the Lancer driver has been doing this for a while now. The Lancer driver’s defence? “Because I need to work, I work midnight.” I’m so confused right now. Say what? Don’t forget his voice. His kkj? Ouch, that’s a first, second and third-degree burn all in.
  8. Jaguar's performance version of the F-PACE SUV, the F-PACE SVR, is put through its paces in our latest video review! And boy does this thing have a drivetrain befitting of a top-of-the-line performance SUV! A 5.0-litre supercharged V8 delivers 543bhp and 680Nm of torque, enough to see the two-tonne SUV launch from a standstill to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds! And just what does that translate into on video? Check it out... So, do Idris and Julian have any issues with this awesome beast? Can you guess? Do leave a like, remember to subscribe or drop a comment on the video! Bonus timestamps for those looking for that exhaust note: 0:25 and 11:55!
  9. An image of an LTA officer checking the undercarriage of a Mazda RX8 with a flashlight is circulating on WhatsApp group chats and social media. In the image (see full image below), we can tell that this incident happened sometime at night and it's at a HDB estate. Image taken from Roads.sg Just so you know, LTA officers are obligated to come down and visit you whenever they receive a complaint about your vehicle. It could be illegal parking matters or of course illegal modifications, which is exactly what the LTA officer is checking for in the image. The best part about these visits is that you won’t even know about them! Upon inspection and if found guilty of modification violations, you’ll only hear about their visit through a letter from LTA accompanied with a fine/summon that will probably tear a hole through your *censored*. Why people want to “sabo” you If you’ve done modifications to your car and someone made a complaint against you, it could be a couple of reasons 1. They have nothing better to do and damn cb 2. They cannot tolerate the disturbance your car causes to the neighbourhood Generally when people complain, it’s because of No.2. What should you do if you don’t want people to call the polis? LTA has very clear guidelines as to what modifications need or don’t need LTA’s approval. They’ve also included modifications that are specifically not allowed. Everything else not mentioned, is fair game. Taken from LTA.gov.sg Keep within the guidelines and LTA won’t touch your car. As you can see, not everyone appreciates how loud your vehicles are. Especially in residential areas. Like, why? Louder isn’t always better. Facebook comments and feature image taken from Roads.sg Also, we aren't in America where we can own the car for a lifetime. It's just a 10-year lease! Don't need mod lah! Call 1800 2255 582 for the LTA customer service hotline if a car is disrupting your peace.
  10. I had a chance to drive this beautiful monster. So I want to share this fascinating sound experience with you. I recorded with external exhaust mic, engine room mic and cabin mic. What do you think about this?

  14. Just saw someone doing that in the car park....
  15. My Sunny coming 10 years in next 2 weeks. Had LTA inspection and passed with advice that I change the rusty muffler as the sound will get louder over time. Now that I have renewed my COE, I would like to change the muffler. Any one got advice and the price for the change? Many thanks. I can live with the sound as it does not affect my fuel consumption or any function. But I have 10 years to go from 1 Jul and best I change now. I am prepared to change in JB.
  16. I've seen many buses operating on roads with huge black fumes coming out from exhaust. Will you report them? On 2nd thought it's a wise move to keep quiet cause 1) car park prices just increased 2) the last thing we would want is public transport to increase
  17. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/vehicles-with-illegal-mods-to-undergo-more-frequent-inspections SINGAPORE - From next month (Nov 1), motorists caught with illegally-modified engines or exhaust systems in their vehicles for a second or subsequent time will be subjected to more frequent mandatory vehicle inspections. Under this enhanced inspection regime, second-time offenders will be required to bring their vehicles for mandatory inspections every six months for a period of two years, while third-time or subsequent offenders will need to bring their vehicles for mandatory inspections every three months for a period of two years. This represents a more stringent inspection regime as compared to that for normal vehicles, which are typically inspected once every one or two years, depending on their age and type. "Any owner who does not comply with the inspection regime is guilty of an offence and can be fined up to $1,000 or jailed for up to three months on conviction for the first offence," the Land Transport Authority said in a statement Wednesday (Oct 28). "On conviction for a second or subsequent offence of failing to comply, the maximum penalty will be doubled." This latest move will complement existing penalties to deter motorists from modifying their vehicle engines or exhaust systems illegally. Any person who is convicted of an illegal modification can be fined up to $2,000 or jailed for up to three months, for the first offence. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to six months. In addition, if a vehicle is found with a tampered engine, it will need to be deregistered and the owner may not be granted scrap rebates. The LTA said illegal modifications can create serious safety and environmental hazards. Once a vehicle's engine or exhaust system is modified without due certification and approval, the existing vehicle components may not be able to handle the increased power or speed. Such modifications may also affect the durability and reliability of a vehicle. Currently, motorists may choose to legally install aftermarket exhaust systems that are certified to be suitable for the specific vehicle make and model. These exhaust systems, which are specifically designed and engineered for a particular vehicle make and model, will have undergone testing either by the vehicle manufacturer or by independent test laboratories, to ensure compliance with internationally recognised standards.

  19. My Infiniti Q50 doesnt seem to have an aftermarket legal exhaust or muffler kit in singapore. or at least no workshop seems to have it. Ive enquire overseas and there are at least 3 manufacturers that make them but all seems to don't have a reseller here. one of the japanese manufacturer even have Jasma certification but i asked a famous exhuast workshop if they willing to get approval , but they rejected. is there any other way to get after market exhaust /muffler system approved? seems like a very grey area by LTA.... not very encouraging for people to want to comply with the law. need advice from experienced brothers here.... any workshop interested to carry a japanese brand of exhaust that works with lexus, bmw, lambo, merc and infiniti?
  20. Bros here, Anyone with illegal exhaust before got fine by LTA can advise what's the procces? Once LTA caught you, you follow him to HQ for full car inspection?
  21. Can't afford a Zonda but still want that V12 shriek? No worries, a late 90's Mercedes-Benz S600, SL600 or CL600 and some nice exhaust will solve your problem nicely. For those who know their Mercedes stuff well, you will probably know that the Zonda C12, uses the same unfettled 6.0-litre M120 engine that was found in these large cars from Mercedes. Or there is also the smaller but newer M137 5.8-litre ones that came after the M120. However, I am not sure if there are any such variants left around locally. Anyone seen an early W220 S600 lately? Anyway, if you do happen to have a S/CL/SL600 with you, then get onto Techincal Garage Sasaki's Facebook page and drop them a message saying you want one of their custom made exhaust systems. It comprises of a equal length manifold, front pipe with racing catalytic converter and a centre pipe. Of course it will not be cheap. Nearly $S12,000 to be exact. So is it worth it? Listen for yourself! http://dai.ly/x22n0uc_full-original-exhaust_auto
  22. Hi All I need advised I just bought a 2nd hand car at a car dealer shop but im not aware that the car has a modified exhaust. So 2 month later i was stop by an lta office and told me that my exhaust was modified. The exhaust sound so not loud at all so i asume that it was the air filter as it was knn. After telling the the lta officer, he still want to summon me on the exhaust. I change everything by the next day and when for an inspection and pass. I also have call the car dealer shop and explain but was told to apeal.(choice auto at mekenzie rd) no after service at all. After the apeal the summon was reduce from 500 to 200$. Should i apeal again? As to me i was not my fault. only by the lta officer told me than i know i have a modified exhaust if not only the yearly inspection then i know. Can lta waived all the fine or only still reduce or add back to 500$? If i apeal again. Please advised Thanks Fizzi
  23. While we all know that this year's Formula One 1.6-litre V6 Turbo power units have been criticised for being too soft in terms of volume, some people prefer the quieter and more defined engine note. However, it seems that the FIA, F1's governing body, has decided that the cars need more noise. And Mercedes is possibly the first one with a solution - a flared 'megaphone' exhaust. Sadly, early reports indicate that the new exhaust does not make much of a difference to the volume of the engine.
