Wah lau eh, I thought the norm for foodcourt (with aircon) price is about $1.20. Today just went to Junktion 8 food junction, one cup of teh susu goes for $1.60! Was complaining about it until the auntie next to me told me "di ah, my teh-o from the Indian stall costs $1.70!" Wah, may be I long time in kampung so did not keep up with the current prices ... So the question is: market price is it? [afternote: sorry, talking about foodcourt only hor, not starbucks or shangri-la kopi hor]

Singapore: The world's most EXPENSIVE place for electronics?
Carndablues posted a topic in Lite & EZ
I was hoping to land myself a HD Video Camera at the IT show, the two models in particular I am after are the Canon HF100 and the Sony HDR-CX100. At the IT show, the price listed for both is at SGD$1899 and SGD$1599 respectively. However, when I check Amazon.com, after conversion, the price is about SGD$850 and SGD$998 (after conversion). This is perverse! In the case of the Canon, it is more than double the price! I had heard of this price difference from friends and relatives in Oz, when they told me it was cheaper buying electronics in Oz compared to Singers. I am really gobsmacked by this, luckily I checked online before I battled the crowds at Suntec! So for those who are still considering, you'd better think twice! -
http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Drivers/Ot...221-123504.html Sat, Feb 21, 2009 The Straits Times 'An expensive affair' When researcher Joanna Phua drove along the Pan-Island Expressway in December 2007, she did not expect it to be the start of her nightmare. It was drizzling and she was driving at 70kmh on the extreme right lane when the taxi in front of her suddenly jammed its brakes. She could not brake in time and her Nissan Latio hit its rear. Then, a Malaysian-registered van slammed into her car's rear. She found out that hers was the fourth car in a five-car pile-up. She suffered only whiplash but her two-year-old vehicle was completely wrecked. "I was so shocked, I didn't even get out of the car," said Ms Phua, 24. Eventually, she called her regular workshop, requesting a tow truck. But when the people there heard that it was a Malaysian van that hit her, they refused the job. "They were worried they couldn't claim the insurance from the Malaysian side," she said. "So they didn't even want to repair my car." At a loss, she agreed to let a workshop representative, who had approached her after witnessing the accident, tow her car to a workshop in Woodlands. Although the workshop promised to provide her with a replacement car, this did not happen. It also had problems verifying that the Malaysian van had an insurer. Reluctant to leave her car in the workshop while awaiting news from the Malaysian side, Ms Phua took it to the official agent for repairs. She had to claim $11,000 from her own insurance. "The next year, my premium nearly tripled from $600 to $1,600 annually," she said. On top of that, she has also received two letters from lawyers representing the owner of the first car in the chain collision, seeking $6,197 in compensation from her. "Usually they claim from the last car, but because the last one is Malaysian, I think he decided to come after me," she said. "For months, I was so worried and didn't dare to drive." She has left the case to her insurer and the case is still pending. Now, Ms Phua avoids driving in jams as far as possible and always keeps a safe distance from cars in front of hers. "Getting into a pile-up is a really troublesome and expensive affair," she said ruefully. Mavis Toh

I read this from a Blog :"I believe that people only want to take advice from those more successful than they are. One way to demonstrate to others that you are more successful is purchasing a luxury car such as a BMW or Mercedes." What do you think? stereotyping? Regards,

Car alarm started acting weird and cranking was taking much longer than usual, had the stock 45Ah battery checked this afternoon and was told its dying, attached is the test result. Decided to purchase a new battery as I did not want to be stranded by a dead battery. The options given to me were: 1) Bosch Silver 62Ah, made in Germany, 1yr warranty @ $160 2) Amaron GO 60Ah, made in India, 6mths warranty @ $130 Was at the prices but mech told me prices are increasing due to lead shortage; remembered reading such an article in ST as well. Lunch break was almost over and I decided on the Bosch, hope it will last at least 2 years. Stock battery died after 17 mths, last 55Ah MF Panasonic in the previous car only cost $60.

Since I won't be bringing my family for a short trip to Malaysia this school holiday we had decided to stay a night in our local hotel over this weekend. Was pretty surprised that most hotel had up their prices very steeply even not much with corporate rate. Just a few example :- 4-5 Stars weekend rate w/bf Nett Hotel Intercon > S$380 The Marriot > S$400 Merchant Court > S$350 Mandarin Oriental > S$400 Meritus Mandarin > S$380 (was less than S$200 w/bf for 2 nights in 2003-2004) Marina Mandarin > S$330 (was less than S$200 w/bf for 2 nights in 2003-2004) Finally booked a night at Marina Mandarin for S$260 Nett w/o breakfast. Can visit PC show as well. Even 3 Stars hotels quoted S$250-S$300. A 3D2N trip to Malacca at Equatorial probably costs about S$300-S$350 all in.

I seldom visit the Post Office, except to collect registered items. Today, I need to fax some documents to a LOCAL address and hence had to make the trip to Post Office. I was quoted $3.21 for each page. Nowadays, it is cheap to get an All-in-One printer with fax capability and the telephone bill for faxing is not expensive. I am wondering if such pricing at Post Office is reasonable, at all. Your views please.
