  2. http://rt.com/news/226535-facebook-instagram-down-websites/ The websites of popular social media networks Facebook and Instagram appear to be down. The sites haven’t been available for some time. The mobile versions of both sites are not available either. “Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can,” said a message on the Facebook site. The hashtag #facebookdown has recently appeared on Twitter. The hashtag already tops Worldwide Trends on Twitter. The websites of the Tinder matchmaking mobile app and Hipchat instant messaging are also down. Here's Taylor Swift instead
  3. Read more link: http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/facebook-launches-online-marketplace-platform-in-singapore Personally have been waiting for this move for more than a year already. Would be an interesting additional channel for ecommerce. But as a consumer, I'm not sure if I want a business owner to have access to what is publicly available on my profile... double edge sword really.
  4. Dear Drivers, Bros, Friends and the other reprobates that hang out here. As part of a new thing for my company - and to help out a friend running a golfing business, I have had my programmer develop a simple GOLF COURSE RATING application that runs on Facebook. This is for Singapore and Johor only for now, it allows for you to enter your round of golf, comment on your best and worst holes, and give a comment on the course - as well as see what others say. My application is ready for BETA testing (not going live to the public yet) - so I need some users to test it and give feedback please. If you are a golfer, and are able to help out to do some testing and give your considered opinions, please drop me a PM. Many many great thanks Darryn * P.S - I asked permission before posting this

VIJAYAN SENIOR LAW CORRESPONDENT A Facebook user who posted vulgar abuse in response to Mother's Day wishes by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has been sacked from his job. Mr Ridhuan Abdullah, 30, had identified himself as a security officer at "Keith Morton" on the post, which triggered the move. The security firm's owner, Mr William Morton Jr, said yesterday that such conduct cannot be condoned, particularly from security officers who are expected to uphold basic standards of decorum. 11. Hi folks, have you had Facebook friends that you want to unfriend because their posts and updates are borderline offensive & irritating, yet you didn't unfriend or block them cos you also find their offending posts amusing at the same time? I have one such friend now in FB and she is one irritating drama mama. (in case Tikos are wondering, not chio, aunty) First of she is not really my friend, more like my brother's friend group whom I sometimes join their outings. Her impression to me is a softspoken quiet person but my bro say it's not really the case if they are in their own group. The fact that she posts almost everything about her life, thoughts and actions sort of irks me. She is not the smartest person around but incidentally she thought she is smart. She likes to share posts from TRS or TOC and she occasionally posts typical coffeshop aunty ranting on the Gahmen. Else she will be posting things like what she is "currently" doing. Once awhile, she will post her own quotes or an idiotic conversation with her work rival. I find then both amusing and stupid at the same time. Most of her posts garner 0 comments and maybe a 1 or 2 likes. Many occasion I was so tempted to troll her in FB with my replies. I did once or twice but it seems to me she don't get it or pretend not to get it. My brother had repeatedly told me NOT to reply to her idiotic posts cos he feels she is just seeking attention or baiting us to comment her status. Occasional I would msg my bro "hey, your fren post stupid things again LOL" and we sort of make fun of it ourselves. Her posts are sometimes ridulously brainless that at one point, she offended someone with an rather offensive post (racial related) who treaten to make her comments viral. She removed the post immediately. Lucky for her. Once she made a remarked about something that insulted IT jobs, I was quite offended and almost wanted to troll her if not for my brother stopping me. Currently she's in a new job and complaining all the things her new coy doesn't have compare to her old job. The email system, the website blocking and the FTs, etc. I was like rolling my eyes as if I care. Anyone have sure FB friends? Irrating yet amusing!
  12. Wahhhhhhhhhh.................. no more secret messages in WhatsApp leow ...... Yahoo news: Facebook closes big-ticket buy of WhatsApp Facebook on Monday completed its buy of mobile messaging application WhatsApp, with the mostly stock deal tallying nearly $22 billion. The acquisition was given the colossal price tag of $19 billion when the deal was struck in February, but a rise in Facebook shares has pushed the value even higher. "We are looking forward to connecting even more people around the world, and continuing to create value for the people who use WhatsApp," Facebook said in a statement emailed to AFP. Terms of the deal include WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum remaining head of the company and taking a seat on the Facebook board of directors. Koum's salary will be one dollar a year, according to a filing Monday with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The symbolic annual pay mirrors that of Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg. WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton will remain with the company under terms of the acquisition, which promises "inducement grants" of millions of shares of stock that will incrementally vest during the coming four years for Koum and Acton if they remain with the company, according to Facebook. European Union regulators on Friday cleared the buyout of the WhatsApp mobile messaging service by Facebook, despite opposition by telecom companies afraid of the growing power of US technology giants. In a statement explaining its approval of the deal, the European Commission, the EU's executive arm, said Facebook and WhatsApp were "not close competitors" and that consumers would continue to have a "wide array of choices". "We have carefully reviewed this proposed acquisition and come to the conclusion that it would not hamper competition in this dynamic and growing market," EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said in a statement. Facebook, the world's biggest social network, announced the buyout of the WhatsApp messenger service, used by 600 million people, in February and US authorities approved the deal in April. The buyout included 177 million Facebook shares, plus $4.59 billion in cash. In addition, the social network agreed to provide 45.9 million restricted shares to WhatsApp employees. link: https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/facebook-closes-big-ticket-buy-whatsapp-192403177.html Used to get a lots of videos on WhatApp and now with Facebook taking over, nothing can stop the videos from leaking out if hack by hackers ...
  13. Because I love wasting time in the office - three questions for discussion 1. Which Singapore AD has the best facebook page? 2. Which is your favourite motoring Youtube channel? 3. Which Manufacturer has the best Youtube channel? Note - wasn't sure to put this into cars or L&E - but as it's about watching and not doing decided on L&E My answers - I like Chris Harris on Cars and Autocar channels for good information, Topgear for great cinematography. Manufacturers - Lamborghini still makes the best promo videos, but for sheer amount of content I like ///M Cars - their driftmob video etc rock. As for local facebook page - too many to choose!
  14. its interesting what this girl did to fool everyone that follows her on FB and her family. abit boliao but she definitely proved her point to the whole. its time for the good old meet up sharing sessions instead of sharing only on FB. http://www.gapyear.com/news/230749/dutch-girl-fakes-a-trip-to-se-asia ....................Bending reality on Facebook is hardly unusual – in fact it’s turning into something of a life skill – but Zilla’s efforts seem to have taken things to a whole new level. The reasons behind her actions, however, are noble: it was all part of a university project, in which she wanted to show how Facebook activity is not necessarily reflective of real life. Speaking to media in her home country, she said: “I did this to show people that we filter and manipulate what we show on social media, and that we create an online world which reality can no longer meet. “My goal was to prove how common and easy it is to distort reality. Everybody knows that pictures of models are manipulated. But we often overlook the fact that we manipulate reality also in our own lives.”........................

  17. From a time, consistency of posting and "cleverness" of posting issue, as well as the legitimacy of paying someone to do it - which, if any, of our politicians do you think manage their own facebook pages? (note - I am talking PAGES as opposed to PROFILES) If you are a celebrity, do you think it is ok to pay someone to manage a facebook page for you? If so, does this extend to politicians? And do you think that "Mr. Selfie" is doing the right thing with the posts he makes that are narcisscistic?
  18. Facebook said it will pay $19 billion in cash and stock to acquire smartphone-messaging app WhatsApp Inc., a deal that further emphasizes the social network's mobile push. WhatsApp allows users to send text messages free over the Internet, bypassing wireless carriers that may charge users to send messages over their networks. Texting apps are especially costing wireless carriers, which for years relied on the services for the bulk of their revenue. WhatsApp claims 450 million people use its service each month and 70% of those people are active on a given day. It also claims it is adding more than 1 million new registered users a day. "WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people," said Facebook founder and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg. WhatsApp will continue to operate independently and retain its brand, while co-founder and CEO Jan Koum will join Facebook's board, bringing the total number of members to nine. WhatsApp will remain based in Mountain View, Calif., and Facebook said its own messenger app and WhatsApp's core messaging product will continue to operate as separate applications. Facebook said in a regulatory filing that it would acquire all outstanding stock and options in WhatsApp for about 183.9 million of its shares, valued at about $12 billion. The deal also includes $4 billion in cash and an additional $3 billion in restricted stock units to be granted to WhatsApp's founders and employees. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal in December, Mr. Koum attributed the company's steady growth to his company's "focus on messaging." Unlike competing messaging apps that make money with advertising or games, "we want to get out of the way. We want to let people have a conversation." At the time, he also said the company had no plans to sell or launch an initial public offering or seek new funding. The deal marks the latest signal that Facebook is willing to pay huge sums to acquire rival apps that gain sway with consumers. The company in 2012 agreed to pay $1 billion in cash and stock to buy Instagram, a popular app used to help people share photos. Facebook also reportedly offered to pay close to $3 billion or more to acquire messaging service Snapchat, though that offer was spurned. Facebook was slow to embrace a global shift away from desktop computing to mobile phones, opening it up to scrutiny from investors since its IPO in 2012. But its latest quarterly results illustrated the company is managing that transition as mobile advertising now makes up more than half of its total advertising revenue. In the event the merger is terminated if regulatory approval isn't achieved, Facebook would pay WhatsApp a $1 billion cash breakup fee and issue $1 billion in Facebook shares. Facebook was advised by Allen & Co. LLC and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, while WhatsApp was advised by Morgan Stanley and Fenwick & West LLP. Facebook intends to host a conference call later Wednesday to discuss the merger. The news sent Facebook shares down about 3% in after-hours trading.
  19. So who here is planning to change his/her gender on facebook? But you got to wait. http://edition.cnn.com/2014/02/13/tech/social-media/facebook-gender-custom/ (CNN) -- You don't have to be strictly a man or a woman on Facebook anymore. In a nod to the "it's complicated" sexual identities of many of its users, the social network on Thursday added a third "custom" gender option for people's profiles. In addition to Male or Female, Facebook now lets U.S. users choose among some 50 additional options such as "transgender," "cisgender," "gender fluid," "intersex" and "neither." Users also now have the ability to choose the pronoun they'd like to be referred to publicly: he/his, she/her, or the gender-neutral they/their. "When you come to Facebook to connect with the people, causes, and organizations you care about, we want you to feel comfortable being your true, authentic self," Facebook said in a post on its Diversity page. "An important part of this is the expression of gender, especially when it extends beyond the definitions of just 'male' or 'female,' " the post continued. "So today, we're proud to offer a new custom gender option to help you better express your own identity on Facebook." Facebook said it worked with a group of leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy organizations to come up with the new gender categories. "Facebook users from across the country have been asking for the ability to reflect their gender accurately, and today Facebook showed they have been listening," said Allison Palmer, a former GLAAD vice president, who worked on the project with Facebook. To edit your gender status (or other personal information), Facebook offers these instructions: Go to your Timeline (which we sometimes refer to as your profile). Click Update Info at the bottom of your cover photo. Click Edit in the top right of the section you'd like to change. (The new gender options are only accessible within an autocomplete drop-down menu, so you have to begin typing to see them appear.) Enter your new info and click Save. Among other new gender options identified on Facebook so far: Trans Female, Trans Male, Trans Person, Gender Variant, Gender Questioning, Bigender, Androgynous, Pangender and Transsexual. Facebook also tweaked its privacy settings to let users control with whom they share their custom gender. Reaction on social media Thursday was largely positive, although some people joked they would need a dictionary to look up many of the gender-identity terms. The social network did not say Thursday when the new gender options might be available to users outside the U.S.

  22. Being in a relationship with your partner can be a chore when you're "in the mood to be single" and can be an exciting and lovely experience when you want to share your thoughts, ideas and love with someone close and familiar. But being in love with your car can be a relatively different argument altogether. Like getting yourself involved in social media websites such as Facebook (which is pretty much everyone, I assume?), breaking up can be a tough thing to do. I have about 500 friends on Facebook, of which I consider some 19 of them as "ex-girlfriends". The necessity to highlight the word ex-girlfriends is simply because they could be make-out buddies, one-night stands, challenged-by-friends flings, and a few ladies I never fully interacted with but flirted so heavily with that they can no longer be categorised as "just friends". I was once told, a long time ago, that breaking up is one of the easiest things to do. There are so many different ways to do it I hardly even know where to begin. My friends and I have all these exes, be it wagons or women. It's not just because we are more comfortable with blurring sexual boundaries but also because not committing seems like an easier way out to finding something fresh and new. It was supposed to be the same with cars, when COE was hovering at a much lower price. But considering how much more money you'll have to invest to get into a new relationship with another car, you're better off not having another ex. Of course that's also considering you're not some rich kid on the block. I was also once told, a long time ago, that COE prices were going to drop in a couple of years. It seems like everyone knows a thing or two about the COE system, just like how every guy seems to know a thing or two about women. How true that's going to stand is beyond me, and if you're honest enough, it'll be beyond you too. Till then, we'll all have to move on. Sort of.
  23. Link Two weeks ago we reported that Facebook was interested in purchasing Israeli mapping startup Waze for up to $1 billion. Today, it appears that Google is also now in the bidding, and that could up the buying price. Waze specializes in satellite navigation for mobile devices, and uses members' smartphones to generate maps and traffic data. More importantly, Waze collects user's traveling speed and direction, which is extremely valuable data if monetized correctly. Google Maps and other popular mapping apps do not include such data. It had been reported that due diligence between Waze and Facebook had been going on for six months and a term sheet had already been signed. The talks seems to have stalled due to Facebook's demand that the whole team relocate to Palo Alto from Israel. The company currently has 47 million users, with 12 percent coming from the U.S. It also has particularly strong penetration in Brazil and its home country.
  24. Kia Singapore is staging a special preview event for the new Forte K3 on 6th July at the Turf Club for its Facebook fans. The 2013 Forte K3 is powered by a 1.6-litre D-CVVT engine which churns out 130bhp. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the Korean sedan takes 11.6 seconds to hit 100km/h from standstill. The new K3 has grown in size and measures 4,560mm by 1,780mm by 1,435mm (L x W x H). For the Singapore-bound version, the car is loaded with goodies such as Smart Welcome Lighting System, ventilated driver's seat, powered front seats with memory function for the driver's side and HID projector headlamps with LED daylight running lights. The five-door version is rumoured to be available locally towards the end of the year.
  25. Within a day of its set up, the PAP Confessions page on Facebook has already gone viral. The page has garnered close to 2,700 'Likes'. When contacted via the Facebook page, one of the page administrators responded and claimed that there were four people behind the page. The administrator said while they hope the page makes waves, they will filter out any defamatory postings. They say the point of the page is to provide an anonymous platform for PAP members and associates to voice out what they may otherwise be unable to. The page administrator also claimed that three of them are active members of the PAP, and have been party members for 12 to 35 years. One post on the page is the main reason it has gone viral. It is an open letter addressed to the Prime Minister and signed off by a "Tan Ah Kow". So far, the posting has been shared by almost 5,000 people, liked by more than 6,000 and received close to 600 comments. The writer claims to be a grassroots leader. Response to the letter has been mixed, with some supporters, some skeptics and some who think that the Confessions page phenomenon has gone a little too far. When asked what they had to say to those doubting the credibility of the postings, the page administrator said: "It would take a leap of faith and judgement should be passed on the content rather than the person posting it." http://www.tnp.sg/trending/content/pap-con...page-goes-viral Here is the letter from "Tan Ah Kow" taken from the facebook of PAP Confessions. A lengthy but well written article. Letter from a Grassroots Leader to PM Dear Prime Minister, I am one of your grassroots leader. I've voluntereed and served in one of your constituency for the last 20 years. I've had these thoughts percolating in my mind for many months. With what I observed in the last 2 weeks, starting with the Punggol BE then the White Paper, I decided to take the risk and go ahead and send this letter to you. I hope you do not take any of these the wrong way. After the GE2011 elections, the PAP was dealt a big blow with the unprecedented loss of a GRC. You did a post-mortem with us, and with your MPs. One of the message we tried to send you then was: You (meaning the PAP leadership) just didn't listen to us. We told you there were many problems on the ground, you did not listen. After the GE, you said PAP will change. The next challenge came in Hougang BE. You picked a great PAP candidate and for a while, we thought he could pull off a win. But against the advice of the candidate and the PAP grassroots, you deployed your big guns (KBW, TCH etc) and hijacked the message on the ground. You did not listen. The Punggol BE decisive loss was unexpected. The PAP grassroots told you to send one of us, a grassroots type person, to the fight. You chose to parachute in an unknown, someone who just joined the party weeks ago. He commited gaffe after gaffe. You did not listen. And right after the Punggol BE, you unveiled the White Paper. I know that those close to you, including the mainstream media, are praising you for daring to take on the problems of the future, of not sweeping things aside. But let me tell you this : I think you, and your top leadership, screwed up big time. I am sorry I have to use this language. You see, I'm a business leader too. I know what its like to be surrounded by people reporting to you, who are naturally disposed to tell you what you want to hear. Or are all molded in the same way. I am outside your
