  1. What do you guys think? I think its quite ridiculous
  2. to the above question: To me, this is an unfair statement Firstly, opp are not paid 15K/mth to manage the constituency. They have their own jobs and livelihood to take care of. What can we expect them to do, lobby for policies actively? Anything non-elected opp do is out of their own free will and free time... they may be doing something, or not doing anything.. we cannot make any judgement on that... and hey.. they are not even "elected MPs"!! Elections is the best times to focus and reach out to the masses.. which other time can give one so much coverage? Secondly, media gives priority to the ruling party, so what can we expect? Thirdly, the Ruling party should be the one that is present, as they are earning 15K/mth to take care of our constituency, I, for one, have NEVER seen my MP or heard about the MP coming around or reach out in my neighbourhood...

  10. http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...712-226595.html S'pore bookies are favourites in the region By MAUREEN KOH SINGAPOREAN bookies - who operate betting websites - are hot. Not only here but also in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, the Philippines and Malaysia. At least, that's what several punters and bookmakers contacted on various betting websites told The New Paper on Sunday. And the reasons they're hot with bettors are the same ones you'd find in mainstream Singapore society. Chief among them: They play fair. Punters say that Singaporean bookies may chase you to pay up promptly when you lose, but when you win, they also pay you promptly. Australian "Mr Grim", who is a member of one website, attests to that. "I like that payment is prompt - that's like a Singapore stamp of guarantee," he told The New Paper on Sunday. Another punter, Gigi, who is from Hong Kong, said she has switched to Singapore bookmakers. She used to place bets with websites run by mainland Chinese syndicates and Hong Kong triads. "You can be sure they'll be at your back for payment when you lose, but it's a different case when you win," she said. Gigi claimed she once had two triad members turn up at her workplace when she defaulted in payment to threaten her. Another reason why punters like Singapore bookies: Their websites - usually hosted in the Philippines - are "professionally-run", said members. Paul, from Australia, said: "Good English in quick news updates indicate efficiency." Wisely, a senior member on a betting forum, said: "Of course it's "safer" to bet with Singapore(an)-managed agents", as they will pay you. He claims he is an agent based in Thailand but collects bets for a Singaporean "master agent". He said: "Singaporeans are very organised, so everything is in order." A random check with members across various forums hosted by at least 10 betting portals indicated that at least half of the websites are believed to be Singaporean-owned. The New Paper on Sunday unsuccessfully tried to contact the hosts of eight websites through e-mails and feedback forms for verification. A spokesman for a law firm in Makati, Manila, that specialises in assisting foreign companies apply for online gaming licences in the Philippines, said there are several key players (websites) which are run or owned by "legitimate businessmen". According to the spokesman, foreign companies can legally set up business in the online gaming, sports and betting industries as long as they comply with a set of regulations. Citing client confidentiality, she declined to provide any figures but confirmed that "a number of these businessmen are Singaporeans who have the money to buy the licenses". A retired bookie said: "There are a few big plates (bookie speak for illegal betting operations) - and they are not restricted to just one website. "They are controlled by only one or two main players but many of the shareholders are Singaporeans." He described these "shareholders" as "individuals who have the money to buy franchises to operate the website". A senior agent, who is based in China, likened it to "multi-level selling". He said: "Master agents then recruit agents - bookies - from all over the region to take the bets." All transactions - wins or losses - are usually wired or transferred electronically. While it may be legal to host a site outside Singapore, placing bets with it is still illegal in Singapore. All forms of soccer betting are illegal here, unless they are placed with Singapore Pools and its authorised agents. To date, Singapore police have arrested 36 persons during this World Cup season for illegal football betting, with estimated illegal bets amounting to nearly $1.5 million. Assistant director of the Specialised Crime Division, CID, Superintendent of Police Goh Lam Kiong, said: "This series of operations show that we are serious about clamping down on illegal betting activities. "We will not hesitate to take action against those involved in such activities, regardless of their role." In 2008, 1,566 people in Singapore were arrested for illegal gambling and betting activities, according to police figures. On Wednesday, Hong Kong and Guangdong police busted a syndicate that collected some seven billion yuan (S$1.4 billion) in illegal bets - mostly on football matches. Hong Kong police arrested 74 people in Hong Kong and 29 in mainland China during the joint operation, reported the South China Morning Post. A police spokesman told The New Paper on Sunday: "Investigations are still ongoing but we don't believe any Singaporean is involved."

  12. Bernie Ecclestone has defended Michael Schumacher amid criticism of the seven time world champion's lacklustre return to formula one. The 41-year-old German's comeback with a three-year deal at Mercedes was the talk of the pre-season. But his new form hit a low in China last weekend, when he was trounced by his teammate Nico Rosberg in qualifying before finishing a minute down at the finish in the sort of slippery conditions in which previously he would have thrived. F1 chief executive Ecclestone said the criticism of his performance so far is not justified. "Anybody who criticises Michael is wrong. He deserves better," the Briton said in a joint interview with Mercedes' Norbert Haug. Haug agreed: "No, for sure he doesn't deserve that." The German told F1's official website that Schumacher's effect at the Brackley based team is being tangibly felt behind the scenes. "He stimulates everybody, including Nico." Ecclestone said he is not surprised that 24-year-old Rosberg currently has the upper hand, and tips Schumacher to be back on top soon. "Nico is very talented and Michael was on holiday for three years. Ask me the same question after another two races," said the 79-year-old. There have been theories that Schumacher will - or should - make a quick retreat in order to cease the humiliation and safeguard his legacy. It has also been suggested that his form reflects the fact that he has only returned to beat the boredom of retirement. "We all know that Michael would be his first and foremost critic if he realised that this job is not for him anymore. But that's not the case," said Haug. "Within the team, Michael is extremely constructive. This enthusiasm is firing up the whole team." Ecclestone agreed: "Michael would have never returned had he not been convinced that he can do the job. He is not a tourist in the paddock -- he's here to win. And he will win again."
  13. Hello Guys, Well my current car COE is expiring very soon and had sat in a Crown Royal before and satisfied The population of the car here is not as much as lets say Malaysia, Indonesia or China. I wonder what is the current market price for this unit? I hope its still in pristine condition. I might take a look at the car perhaps later on during the week. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...422&DL=1064 Haha maybe some of u think its similar to a Taxi.
  14. I think this has been discussed before but I still very unhappy about COE because what gahment is doing right now is very unfair for the middle class and peasants like myself. High COE prices have absolutely no effect on the rich. It does not stop them from buying cars at all. However, for the poorer folks, it will become a burden esp. for those who needs a car because of work. Its the working class that needs to run around like mad, not the rich who are sitting happily in their big offices..... In the end, this policy is like telling us got money can own as many cars as you like. No money? Too bad for you. You die your problem. There is no equality. Its not about people getting equal chance to buy a car (like a balloting system), its only about money. IMHO, if such a policy were to be implement in other countries (esp. western/Europe) I am sure there will be a protest and the gahment can go bye bye.... Having said that, I have to say that its not helped by the fact that there are people who buy car for the sake of ego or status etc. I get a feeling that some buy cars because others have it as well. So I must have in order not to lose face.
  15. One of my current car is a CNG car purchased from one of the "biggest" PI in Singapore. They also got their own workshop in Sin Ming. I will do my servicing regularly with them every 10,000km because mine is a CNG car and most of the time when I service outside, my car engine light will light up and I will need to drive back to this PI workshop to tune it ( and waste my time; imagine gota drive to and fro every 10,000km and sometimes they cant fix it on first attempt ) I was horrified when I called up the workshop to book an appt last monday when my 10000km mark is breached. Nobody answered my call for the whole day despite me calling 12-15 times. Next two days, I called and someone picked up and said they shifting to paya lebar. When? "soon" is the answer and kept asking me to call back. I call back 2 days later and they still say call back next week. Cmon, my car is CNG and I only CAN go to your workshop to service. I have breached the 12000km mark ( exceeed 2000km ) and now no one can give me an anwer and I cant cabut to another workshop. How can conduct business like that??? If anything happens to my CNG now, who is going to help? I called up other CNG workshop and they said cannot do anything as the installer is not them. And this workshop got one stupid policy. Lunchtime, they close down for 1-2 whole hour. Say 1pm-2pm lunch time, everyone MIA for lunch. So if your car reach there at 10am and by 1pm still not done yet, sorry u surely gota wait till after 2pm to collect your car. I understand the need to have lunch time for everyone but dont they understand how to plan shifts??? Seriously getting too arrogant this company.

In Sgcarmart & classified ads similar model is asking for above S$55,000. The difference is from S$10-15k ? Why so much ? Do yu think I can getting higher says S$50,000 if I advertise it myself. Any bros here had similar experience.

  21. There is $20 million to be shared between 2 persons. Person A decides how to share the money. Person B decides whether or not to accept the proposed ratio. If Person B accepts the ratio, both parties get the money. If Person B don't accept, nobody gets anything. 1) If you are person A, how would you split the $20 million? 2) If you are person B, will you accept if A offers you $1 million and keeps $19 million for himself?
