  6. All, some branded tyres can cost almost 50% lesser. Any chance that these tyres are not the originals ? If certain country can even make fake eggs, there should be no problem making fakes tyres as the design can be copied easily and most layman won't be able to tell the difference in compound.

  9. i am not talking about aftermarket or parallel OEM oil filters. When u buy oil filter in the so called original packaging, please beware, there are fake ones lying around. anyone has any experience in telling the original from fake ones ? as for toyota original oil filter (for altis, wish, picnic etc) , look at the product code on the packaging... it should only contain NUMBERS. if it contains both numbers and alphabets, then its a fake. it doesnt matter whether the packaging states that its made in japan. i bought an oil filter from AV... apparently its a fake one.... will post original vs fake pics in due time. basically , the original ones has more filter element than the fake ones. Looking through the aperture, u can acutally see the filter element in the original one... for the fake one, all u see is metal ... i think that one should not skimp on oil filters as they help to filter dirt that is detrimental to the engine. cost of fake one -$4.50 ( but i bought at 6.50) true original one can be bought for $7.00. for other car makes i have no experience and hence unable to comment.. perhaps those car gurus here can provide some input.

  14. Hey folks... need your advice on this... I just bought a set of CDT CL-62 at a pretty popular audio shop in Toa payoh this afternoon. However, after hearing all the SLT stories here, I decided to check out the set being installed in my car. I got very suspicious when I realised the box set for my CDT does not have an serial number. Also, the manuals and warranty cards look like those printed from home colour printer. Very amatuerish, very fake looking. As it was already halfway throught installation, I decided not to ask so much. Also, after talking to the shop owner, he said that his shop has got clean record in the market, which I'm not disputing. Heard many bros recommending that shop on the net. Anyway, just want to ask: 1) Are there known 'chiong' CDTs around? 2) Are all manuals and warranty cards printed in amatuerish way? I even spotted several spelling errors on it! 3) Do CDT component speakers have serial numbers on them for warranty purposes? Would appreciate if all bros can help verify... thanks!
  15. as usual, caveat emptor. Dropped by SLT to pick up a simple fuse and sub grille. Inquired about the new Boston S60 series but shopkeeper refused to name the price and directed me to some Diamond Audio M3s! ok no problem. played it, sounded ok only. But he offered $140 for it so I thought, why not? Maybe my amp and cables can make those sing. Cheap also what :) Everything looked really genuine at 1st sight :) felt hefty and labels all ok. No warranty though and no manual. Was enticed to buy the rodek platinum 2.5 at $120 as well (i needed an amp to drive the rear speakers since i would be upgrading my coaxial to the rear and new diamond component to the front.) Paid total $260 for it and the shopkeeper threw in 6m of power cable. Went home and checked online. saw the thread on fake m361s. Realised that the box looked a little different from the originals online and saw that the crossover did not state m361 but was m36.1x instead. turned the speaker over and saw the serial number exactly the same as this site: http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2006-10DStd4013396.htm exact serial number! Got a friend to go to the shop to check out the rest of the diamond audio there. All the boxes same serial number! Refered to the instructions pdf on diamond audio website, original m361 shows 50 watts nominal and 100 watts max and not 60 watts nominal and 120 watt max. Also, the m361 on the original diamond audio website shows a dual coil m361 driver but the fake one offered was a single voice coil. Bo pian, went back to the shop and tried to avoid a confrontation intending to return both the amp and the diamond m361 Just claimed that my HU cannot support so many amps. Shopkeeper immediately refused to refund me or change items and offered me a FREE pre amp to connect to my HU with limited pre outs! so good meh? I claimed that doing so would mess out the soundstage etc. So I looked around and I said, why not i take a 1 farad cap that he quoted me $75 for earlier and then he refund the rest. Suddenly, the $75 1 farad cap increased in price to $190! And he said that if I took the cap, he would only refund me $50-$60! I almost lost my temper and my voice changed abit. I claimed that it was absurd and that this is not the way to do business. Didn't want to waste anymore time, I offered him $50! This means that I return him everything and that he will just return me $210! He will earn $50 for nothing! That joker pretend to act here and there and finally, went out of the shop and then came back and said his boss claimed that he will settle this case for $60 + 3%GST cos I paid by card. In the end, He returned me just $192 :) I returned him all his junk and left. So this is how SLT does business huh? And worse, i called my bank, **** to tell them that the shop I bought the items from were selling fake products and that they misrepresented their products with the intent to cheat. The bank should stop the payment immediately while I make a police report and lodge a similar report to the local diamond audio distributor to support my case. The silly bank insisted that I could do nothing except return to the shop and try to neg with the shopkeeper for a refund. My reply was that if that establishment intended to misrepresent or cheat, so to speak, would there even be any room for neg? things would only turn ugly. the silly bank again claimed that there was nothing they could do. Let the shop charge and then dispute it later. I said that now we know that an offence was being committed and that we are able to stop this from happening and that I would provide alol supporting docs from the police and diamond audio but that clown of a bank insisted that the would rather and could only allow the errant shop to charge and cheat and get away with it then dispute it later rather than nipping it in the bud. I asked about credit protection for buyers but the bank's personnel remained silent. Credit card these days seem to be nothing more than a hefty loan/cash advance with bonus points. Whatever happened to buyer's credit protection? nevertheless, i'm digressing. Bad incident but i will not name the shop here. I however urge all to practise common sense when shopping at SLT. If its too good to be true, it almost always is. some might argue that it does not matter if its fake, so long as it sounds good and if one is happy with the way it sounds then its ok. i disagree. Why would I pay $8000 for a faqke rolex imitation watch that could be had for a meagre $200 and be ok with that? after all, if I follow the aforementioned statement, the fake rolex would work and tell the time as well! but hey, when i pay $8000, i want a real rolex and not a fake. in this case, I would not even pay $3000 for a fake rolex. edited to cover the name of the silly bank since nowadays in singapore, banks got nothing better to do than to sue ppl over the lsightest matter. maybe to squeeze us dry.

  22. Just posting a warning in case, from the adverts in the papers and the misleading signs in the Kah motors showroom, anyone here is fooled into thinking that the Civic RS has actually come to Singapore. Basically, the RS is a different car altogether, it's the ES3 while the civics here are the ES1 (VTI-s) and ES8 (the others). It has rear disc brakes, the same 1.7 liter engine as the ES1, full bodykit, no sunroof, no side strips (door protectors), body-coloured strip on the bonnet, body coloured strip on the trunk above the number plate, donut headrests, black interior, and most importantly, the chassis code is ES3. I'm not sure about gearing ratios and clutch setup. Anything else is NOT a real Civic RS. Basically, the "RS" at Kah motors is some cosmetically done up thing, with some of the bodykits, RS floormats, RS leather trim (but is not black), 16 inch rims, and is applied to any of the VTI-s, VTi and EXi for something like $4k, which you can probably do a better price at some aftermarket place. I can't believe Kah actually tried to pass that off as an RS. What are they going to do next? Put DC5 bodykit on the Integra iS and pass it off as a Type-R? *shudder*
