  2. I encounter this problem, but it seem to be on a random basis For some reason, my left signal lights will suddenly blink very fast (passing light) while the right signal is at the normal speed. Went out to check the lights but it is fine. Is there anything wrong ?
  3. Reads like a promo for Porches... http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/study-m...hat-testostero/ Talk about a foregone conclusion. Researchers at Canada's John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal took thirty-nine typical young men (i.e. college guys) and placed them in one of two cars. The first was a Toyota Camry. The second was a Porsche 911 Cabriolet. They then let the men drive up and down on two streets. One was busy and filled with women. The other was deserted. After each little cruise, each man's saliva was measured for levels of testosterone. Results? Interestingly, whether there were ladies present or not, the mens' testosterone didn't increase at all after driving the Camry. Can anyone else hear Toyota's CEO Akio Toyoda groaning? The Porsche? Well, this is interesting. When a young man drives down a skirt-filled street in a Porsche droptop, his testosterone level rises. And when then same young man drives down a totally empty road all by his lonesome in a Porsche convertible his testosterone level... rises. To the same level, in fact, as it did when all the ladies were around. Says lead researcher Gad Saad, "In other words, just put a guy in a Porsche, and his testosterone levels shoot up, whether people watch or not." This biological reaction, according to Saad, is a form of "sexual signaling." A way of signaling to potential mates that the driver of said car is the best breeding stock, the best potential mate. Continues Saad, "It's saying, 'all you pretenders out there - you couldn't be driving this Aston Martin - you couldn't even rent it.'" Insert crack about auto journos borrowing it for a week here. Tip of the tuque to Jarrett!
  4. Once again, crude oil price shooting up. The recent price increment is strong, despite the fluctuations of the USD. Last increase only last week, but possibility of another increase (should be about 7-8 cents) may be as early as today. It is not a matter of why, but when.

  6. indonesians say they uncovered apec plot. zhoon or trying to distract from recent botched nordin top capture and score points for uncovering a serious plot? Aug 24, 2009 Attack plot a 'rumour' LAW Minister K. Shanmugam on Sunday dismissed as 'completely unverified rumour' recent media reports that there is a plot to attack the Apec Summit to be held in Singapore in November. But Mr Shanmugam, who is also Second Home Affairs Minister, hastened to add that Singapore takes the security of the event very seriously. Media reports last week quoted an intelligence analyst from the Centre for Intelligence and National Security in Indonesia as saying that investigations into last month's bombings in Jakarta had uncovered a plot to target the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit being held in Singapore in November. The probe supposedly revealed that terrorists also planned to use snipers to attack United States President Barack Obama's convoy during an expected visit to Indonesia around the same time. Said Mr Shanmugam: 'Wherever the President of the United States, or various heads of states visit, you obviously take the appropriate security precautions.' The minister was speaking on the sidelines of the Chong Pang Emergency Preparedness (EP) Day where a simulated bomb attack at a mock coffeeshop was also staged. Asked about the likelihood of a terrorist attack in the heartlands, he noted that it was not just about being on guard against a terrorist attack, but being ready for any type of emergency. 'For a small country like us, this is not just an issue of preparing against terrorist attacks, it's creating a mindset and understanding within our population that (in) any kind of emergency, we are all able to respond,' said Mr Shanmugam. Having events like EP Days helps, but people may forget or not hear about them. 'You've just got to keep doing it, keep raising awareness and keep engaging people,' he said. The school-based Community Emergency Response Team (Cert) of Chong Pang constituency was also launched at the event on Sunday.

  14. Hi, pick up my Superb today... to my surprise, the 16" tyres were Michelin Energy instead of the usual ContiSportContact 2!!! ; furthermore the tyres had a YOM of 2508!! Demands to change to CSC2 were not met - instead they offered to "top-up" any difference if i trade-in at LS tyres. But... frankly, it din work out...:( Just wondering if i'm the only one with Michelin tyres?? sighz... my journey with Harvest has just started with a dent...
  15. Just wondering, what are the specs of a VW Touareg? Was at the traffic light along Clementi rd this afternoon and a blue VW Touareg pulled along side me. First thing that caught my attention was the huge 21" rims clad in Michelin tyres, took a closer look and the blue brake calipers are freaking huge! It covers almost half the circumference of the rotor! Owner noticed me and I gave him a smile and , my intention was to let him know its a nice car thats all. Then came the green light and I witnessed the acceleration of that machine, he was at least 400m ahead of me by that time I reached 70km/h (driving normally). The way the vehicle accelerated was  , freaking fast and silent, I only managed to see a red "50" badge.

  17. Dear mods, Correct me if i am wrong.. 1. The current forum does not have email sent to me when a reply is made specific to my posts. 2. The only way to get any notification is by checking the subscription button. If the above is true, the following problem is faced.. not by me but a few other forumers as well after conversing with them via msn. 1. We get flooded in the email as now we are subscribed to all those threads we participated (we checked the auto subscribe thing). 2. There is no choice as this is the only way to know someone replied to me. 3. People starts to use the Fast Reply and replies become 'indiscriminal'. My suggestion is 1. Bring back the former function of us getting emails only when someone replies specifically to our posts. 2. Remove Fast Replies totally to everyone. I feel the situation now is the thread gets abit multi tracked after a while.. and there is a loss of flow in the discussion. When someone say read page 2, reply via fast reply and his posting appears on page 13, it was already on some other key agenda. There is a sudden loss in context and evolution of the thread. And i see that you do not know which is the last page of discussion. I may think page 5 is the last, and after replying, realize there was actually say 23 pages.. and it felt like you are offtracked.. I hope maybe the mods can address these issues. The solution is actually quite easy as referred to under my suggestions. Thank you very much !

  22. THREE times unlucky was how creative director Damien Yang, 39, summed up his recent experience with MRT train doors that apparently closed on passengers without warning. Mr Yang had waited to board a train at Raffles Place MRT station last Wednesday at about 6.30pm, but had its doors close on him abruptly instead. He managed to squeeze out. 'The doors normally close a few seconds after the alert sounds. How can they close at the same time? 'That defeats the purpose of the alert,' said Mr Yang, who was on his way to meet a friend at Outram Park station. His experience got worse at Outram Park, where he and his friend, Ms Sophie Chu, 28, a content and media specialist, took a train to Chinatown station. As they boarded the train, they heard 'a loud yelp' as doors closed on passengers 'at the same time when the alert sounded'. Although no one was visibly hurt, they said passengers had to leap quickly to safety to avoid the closing doors. At Chinatown MRT station, they observed the same thing happening to another passenger, Mr Yang said. The pair approached the station control office, and were told by its staff that the trains had to reach a 'target timing' during rush hour. He added that commuters 'just have to learn' how to avoid the closing doors. A spokesman for SMRT Corp, which operates the Raffles Place station, said: 'After our investigations, all trains that day observed the stringent procedures when the doors closed.' SMRT said its train doors are calibrated such that the 'closing speed is reduced when (the doors) are about to close' to reduce the impact on commuters caught by the doors. Doors can also be pushed open to 'allow a trapped person or object to be extricated'. If doors are not shut, the train driver is alerted by an indicator light in his cabin, the spokesman said. SBS Transit vice-president of corporate communications, Ms Tammy Tan, said that its 'doors are pre-programmed to close after a pre-determined amount of time'. The company operates the North East Line, which Outram Park and Chinatown stations are part of. Ms Tan added that its trains run without a driver and doors open when 'an object is caught by doors' - a safety feature required by the LTA. A worker was stationed at Outram Park station that evening to direct commuters to 'a less crowded area' of the platform, she claimed. She added that the staff member at Chinatown station has been counselled for his 'lack of tact' in his response to Mr Yang. Both companies maintained that there has been no change in train dwell time - the duration when commuters board and alight from trains - during peak hours. In Future Peak Hrs Different Fare
  23. Hi bros, I was reading an article on sgcarmart which mentioned tht 14" rims are unsafe to travel above 120. This is worrying me as i do travel above 120 on a pretty regular basis and I'm on 14". Despite feeling the car being a bit floaty, i do not seem to experience loss of grip. My rims also do not screech nor lose its grip even if like for eg, i take the corner on the right lane at stevens road just before RGS, at abt 75km/h? I do not travel above 130 as i feel my toyota sedan can't take it. Is it necessary that i change my rims? Please advise. Cheers!
