  1. Like Porsche and Lamborghini, Ferrari has the habit of releasing stripped out, track focused models based on their mid-engined supercars. Following the lineage of the F360 Challenge Stradale and the F430 Scuderia, the Prancing Horse has gone all 'Superleggera' on the 458 Italia. Sporting a different front facia, rear end body work, fins protruding before the rear axle and a more flush and slippery body to accommodate the active aerodynamic systems, the V8 equipped 458 Italia that has been given a power bump in a trimmer package of almost 1.3 tonnes. More power, lighter weight, active aerodynamics and a mid-engined V8

    When things turn ugly

The new F12berlinetta is provocative. The sensual styling will likely appeal and tempt those who are into wheeled art. Not to mention by bearing the highly praised badge on its bonnet, it must be good. Then, things could have been very different. Mansory, a luxury car modification firm based in Brand, Germany, showcased its take on the F12 at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show. Called the 'La Revoluzione', the GT has now been cloaked in maroon carbon fibre, which looks highly exotic, but less pleasing to our eyes. We reckon the firm could have been more creative with the moniker too (likely to have been inspired by Ferrari's halo car - LaFerrari). It seems to be a case of 'too many cooks spoil the soup'. In our humble opinion, the people at Maranello did a good job with the F12. But Mansory - not so. Other than the unique carbon fibre body, we thought the fixed wing broke the svelte, graceful silhouette of the stock car. From the front, it seems that Mansory has eradicated the clever active cooling duct for the brakes. Gone too are the aero bridges behind the front wheel arches. The fixed wing looks fine from this angle, though, and if there's one thing Mansory did right to the aesthetics, we reckon it would be the exhaust tips. The German tuner has upped figures from the 6.3-litre V12 to above 1,200bhp, which enables the La Revoluzione to complete the century sprint in 2.9 seconds - down from 3.1 in the stock car. Before we end this post, we thought we should remind you of how gorgeous the original car was.
  3. The Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) is the only race series of its kind in our region. And while it only runs once round-the-clock, half of the duration of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the gruelling temperature of the Sepang International Circuit makes it tough for the teams. This year, the race ran from 12 midnight to noon the next day, which meant teams would have it better with the cool conditions of the night first, before finishing at the hottest time of the day. Here we have LKM Racing's Porsche GT3R. One look at the extra wide body, and it can be easily mistaken for the RSR variant. Team Petronas Syntium looked all set and ready to continue their streak of wins - they were the champions in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Sadly though, both the #1 and #28 cars succumbed to mechanical faults and failed to finish the race. It wasn't easy to get a clear shot of the GTR Nismo GT3, because the car was easily one the stars in the pits that night. And it certainly looks like the setup was taken straight out of the famous Gran Turismo video game. Not to mention the GTR looked right at home on the track as well. Audi fielded a total of four entries in this year's MMER. This #777 car is the Ultra variant, and the sole entry in the top tier GT3 class. While the drivetrain and chassis remains identical to its GTC class sibling, the Ultra features additional body kits to give it greater track potency. The #777 car was battling up in third position before encountering a problem with its brake cylinders. The car finished the race in seventh overall. Top honour went to Team Clearwater Racing with their #7 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3. It was a much-awaited victory, especially when they missed it by just a notch last year, when it was leading the field for 10 hours before having to retire due to technical faults. Lago Racing came in second place, six laps behind the winning car. AF Corse filled the podium in third, just one lap behind the second position LP560-4. Naza Nexus Racing missed the podium by a spot, coming in a close fourth just 17 minutes behind the third place #3 458. The blue livery is a delightful departure from the usual red that is synonymous with the Italian marque. LKM Racing Porsche GT3R came in fifth position. Craft Racing's Aston Martin Vantage GT3 led the field for the first hour after overtaking both of the SLS AMG GT3s from Team Petronas Syntium. It finished the race in eighth position.
  4. Not so long ago, I tried to remind you to keep away from a country such as Russia. Thing is, the people - well mostly - seem really reckless there, especially while driving. It isn't that hard at all to find videos to prove this theory. Now, another incident - a tragic one too - has taken place in which I believe quite a number of people wonder how the country actually functions. While it may seem just like another car crash, this one is a lot more awful. In the video, we can see a Ferrari 458 Italia rear ending a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Judging from the fact that the rear bumper of the Mercedes was entirely ripped apart, I believe you have a good idea regarding the speed the Ferrari driver must have been driving at the moment. Amazingly, though, neither the Ferrari driver nor the Mercedes driver got seriously hurt. Yet, what was really tragic was the fact that the Italian supercar had actually knocked over a pedestrian, Nariman Gaynulov, 62, before crashing into the said Mercedes. As it turned out, the man driving the Ferrari 458 Italia is Larion Vuokila, 23, son of Alexander Zajonc, a Russian billionaire. Despite not getting seriously hurt, Vuokila was taken to the hospital soon after the incident. However, he tried to escape but has now been arrested by the police. I am not really sure what actually happened to Vuokila seconds before the crash. Was it that he tried to beat the red light? Or, was the crash triggered by Vuokila losing control of his supercar? Well, it seems like we

  7. Want to be cool? Well, then you should be seen driving the coolest machine, Ferrari. According to a survey conducted by an U.K. company called Clear, over 20,000 participants and 678 brands, Ferrari came out on top in the automotive category and third overall, behind Apple and iPhone. This is the third year the poll is carried out. Ferrari improved its rating by a whopping 34 percent as compared to a year ago. In Singapore, the 'cheapest' way to be cool is to purchase a Ferrari California 360 which will set you back by $976,000 without COE. It's clearly hard to be cool on our tropical island.
  8. Wanted to post the pictures of this car for quite a while, but didn't upload the photo to my laptop yet. Anyway, this was taken about 3 weeks ago at Mariott Hotel at Orchard Road. Waited quite a while for the crowd to disperse before taking some photos of the car. It was parked beside a Maserati, opposite a Ferarri California, and yet, it got more attention than those two cars combined. (Actually, not many people took photos of the other two cars, but there was quite a group of people taking photos of this). Anyone venture a guess what this car is?
  9. Here in Singapore, we have plenty of automotive services such as valet parking and mobile car cleaning/detailing, among others. However, being convenient services as they may be, it seems that you really have to be very careful when using this kind of local services. Don't let yourself be caught off-guard because of the convenience. Well, you can't guarantee that your car will always be taken care of by someone experienced for example, when you feel like leaving the nuisance of finding a parking space to the valet guys or when you want your car to be cleaned/detailed. In fact, even if the guy at your service is experienced, there's still no guarantee that things won't go wrong. Recently, in Portsmouth, U.K., a customer's car was wrecked by a mobile car cleaner and, mind you, it was a Ferrari 458 Italia! Ironically, it wasn't the first time the customer used the cleaner's service. Well, the wet road on that day might be partially responsible for the crash. However, I wonder if the cleaner was trying to 'air dry' the car by going for a joyride around the corner and subsequently crashing it. Well, just so you know, it isn't a hard thing at all to lose traction of your car, especially if it's a supercar, coupled with the wet surface which is slippery. Perhaps the traction control of the red Ferrari was somehow switched off, too, at that time. Well, having had to suffer from such a super expensive incident, I'm not too sure if the customer will use the service of the mobile car cleaner in question ever again. And it seems that there are times when we need to use our own hands if we want something done right.

    Bill Cosby

Many of us here would know who Bill Cosby is and would remember his hit TV sitcom, The Cosby Show, which aired during the 1980s up till the early 1990s. But many do not know that Bill Cosby also has a taste for fine luxury automobiles. The vehicle you see above is actually a 1970s Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 which was once owned by the comedian and was a part of his car collection at one time. The Ferrari was recently put up for sale on eBay with a starting bid of $37,500 (S$47,408). In the eBay listing, the seller who is from San Antonio, Texas, mentioned that Bill Cosby was the only owner of the car. It is possible that the seller is a dealer who deals in cars formerly owned by famous people. You might ask if there is any proof that Bill Cosby used to own this Ferrari. Situated within the interior of the car is a plaque which stated that the car was specially prepared for the actor and it was imported by a company known as Milano Imports. It was known that this particular Ferrari model was never officially imported by the local Ferrari dealerships and it was assumed that Bill Cosby ordered the car through the above mentioned company. The Ferrari is in a very good condition and judging from the pictures, it clearly shows that Bill Cosby knows how to look after his fine cars. The Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 was produced during the 1970s with around 500 units manufactured. It was fitted with a 4.3-litre V12 engine which produces 320bhp and the engine was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. That may not sound much nowadays but with the car's celebrity status, the starting bid is just a steal.
  12. 30 years after his father claimed victory, Nico Rosberg took the highest step of the podium at the Monaco Grand Prix - fighting off stiff competition from title defender Sebastian Vettel. Rosberg - a resident of Monaco - managed to fend off Vettel till the end while Webber completed the podium despite sustained pressure from Hamilton. A pit stop strategy worked well for the Red Bull team to leap ahead of Hamilton, during the first safety car period - trigged by Massa at lap 30 who managed to replicate a crash similar to Saturday
  13. Bugatti Veyron It seems that Dubai is one of the richest cities that exist on Planet Earth. Not only is the city pretty, but it's potentially the safest one in this world as well. Well, if you don't really want to buy what I'm saying, you may want to have a look at the fleet of police cars the city has in store instead. Lamborghini Aventador Not so long ago, the Dubai Police Department already secured quite a few supercars such as the Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Lamborghini Aventador, Aston Martin One-77, and the Ferrari FF. Additionally, they also have the Chevrolet Camaro SS. Still, it seems that the local police now think that they shouldn
  14. It's a commonly known fact that London often becomes the destination of choice for millionaires all over the world, especially during summer time. It seems that the millionaires just love the ambient summer temperature in the city. Well, that's besides the fact that most of them seem to love showing off their expensive collection of cars. This seems even more true for millionaires coming from countries with a climate hotter than that in London, just like this fellow millionaire from Dubai. Just like any other person in London, this fellow seemed to be enjoying his time in the capital city of England. However, it was only so true until he tried to get his Ferrari F12 Berlinetta out of a parking lot. Unfortunately for him, he bumped the right rear quarter of his quarter-of-a-million pound vehicle into the wall. But perhaps he didn't think of it as unfortunate, heck, he probably didn't even care - he's a millionaire after all. The Italian prancing horse didn't seem to be visibly damaged in the video (below), though. Watching the video till the end, the guy finally seemed to care about the scratch he might have caused on his car. Near a red light, he decided to get out to check the right rear quarter, the part he bumped into the wall. Honestly, I can say he seemed pissed afterwards. Well, I wonder what was actually on this guy's mind. Not enough with bumping his car - which some of us (including me) may never be able to buy, he went further to run a red light. Did he think he could do just as he wished whenever he got pissed? Alas, he got trapped in the yellow box marked around the junction as a result. Well, watching the video makes me wonder that it may not be suitable to drive a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta around the twisty narrow London streets. The car seems to better suit the rolling landscape and twisting hills in the country where it comes from. For those who still don't know, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta carries a 6.3-litre V12 engine under its hood. It can produce a total output of 730bhp. That said, this particular model is also one of the most powerful monsters the Maranello-based automaker currently has in store.
  15. Ferrari will limit sales of its high-performance street cars this year to protect the brand's aura of exclusivity, chairman Luca Montezemolo said on Wednesday. Wealthy people around the world are snapping up Ferrari's and the company is worried the brand might lose its appeal as a symbol of rarefied luxury. As a result, it will scale back production to below 7,000 units this year, compared with 7,318 last year. "The exclusivity of Ferrari is fundamental for the value of our products," Mr Montezemolo told journalists at the company headquarters near Modena, in northern Italy. "We don't sell a normal product. We sell a dream." Ferrari sales were up 4 per cent in the first quarter, to 1,800 units. Montezemolo said he will provide a detailed outlook in the coming months but estimated the drop in unit sales this year will be greater than 1 per cent or 2 per cent. 16. F1 wannabes or the F1 drivers themselves on a warm-up race for the impending night race? Anyway the grainy footage did not really showed much and the two super cars did not seem to be racing at high speed IMO but if they really were racing, good luck to the well-being of both the racers - just do not drag any innocent parties into harm's way in your silly quest to come up tops in order to satisfy your personal ego. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...rrari_race.html Posted on 24 May 2012 Fast-car drivers still at it: Lambo and Ferrari race at Marina Bay in broad daylight STOMPer Victor spotted a Lamborghini and a Ferrari racing at breakneck speed in broad daylight at Marina Bay on May 21. The STOMPer wrote: "I spotted a Lamborghini and a Ferrari racing in front of the Esplanade towards City Hall and Shenton Way on May 21, 2012 at 3.58pm. "I think our police can't do anything to the high flyers." On May 17, DPM Teo had made a comment on his personal facebook page telling the traffic police to be tougher on speeding and reckless driving. His comment was made in light of the three-vehicle crash at Rochor Road that killed three and left two injured. Video footage of the Rochor crash shows the Ferrari running a red light at the road junction and hitting a taxi, which then hit a motorcycle. The accident happened at around 4.08am on May 12. 18. Preston with his Ferrari 458. He left the key with valets at RWS while having supper there and returned to find the car missing. -- ST PHOTO: MARK CHEONG In the early hours of last Tuesday, two valets at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) were entrusted with the key to a Ferrari 458. Instead of safeguarding it, they used it to take the $1 million sports car for a joyride across Sentosa that lasted over an hour. Their alleged misdeed was exposed when the owner, a 61-year-old retiree, checked the footage on his in-car camera. Outraged by the incident, he has since filed a police report and issued a letter of demand to RWS through lawyer Chia Boon Teck.
  19. Do you remember seeing a video of an Indian boy driving a Ferrari some time ago on this blog? Well, in case you forget, the boy is the child of a man who is, frankly speaking, very well off. Mind you, he possesses a Bentley, Lamborghini, and a Ferrari - which is the problem this time around. The boy in question was only 9-years old when the video of him driving a Ferrari F430 was taken. Amusingly, it was his father, Mohammed Nisham, who recorded the video and even uploaded it to YouTube! Heck, his father must have, somehow, felt proud of his son's actions. Let me tell you, if I were him, there would have been no way I allowed the kid drive a car, let alone a supercar, man! Not only could the kid have run over someone to his/her death, but there were also alot of other potential accidents. For your information, the car has 500bhp under its hood which is, obviously, too much for a child to handle. However, quite miraculously, though, the 9-year old boy managed to avoid hitting anyone or anything. I used the word miraculous as the kid could barely see anything over the dashboard. Nisham let his son cruise in his aforementioned supercar in his residential area, which seems to be inhabited by wealthy people. Honestly, I didn't even realise that it was India in the first place. Nevertheless, it was only a matter of time before the local police department found out about the video and when they did, they decided to charge Nisham. The father of the child was convicted for encouraging underage driving as well as allowing a child without a driving license to manoeuver a car on a public road. Nisham told the police that he did that only to grant his son's birthday wish as the child had pleaded for months for his dad's permission to drive the red car. All the same though, police still considered the action as disturbing as it was irresponsible. I agree with the police in this case, Nisham shouldn't have tried to grant every single wish his child may have, even on his birthday. You're a father, pal, which means you should be wiser instead. It was also figured that the 9-year old kid had also driven Nisham's other cars, such as the Bentley and Lamborghini mentioned earlier. In case you have forgotten the video, here it is again for your convenience.
  20. Switzerland motorsport specialists Carrosserie Saurer are no strangers to customised vehicles and have created exceptional examples of automotive styling and engineering. One such example is this 1975 Maserati Merak by Saurer that will be on auction on the 17th May at the Silverstone Auctions hosted International Trophy Sale. Life for this trident badged Italian began like any other Merak, though greater things were destined for this particular model in 1984 at the hands of Swiss-based Saurer. The redesigned bodywork was formed to create what Paul Saurer considered to be his ideal 'Hot Merak' and no doubt the end result exceeded expectations. The bespoke 1975 Maserati has all its original running gear retained and is estimated to be offered at between
  21. Claimed to be the fastest street car Ferrari has ever produced so far, there's almost nothing to criticise regarding the LaFerrari. From its eye catching styling cues to its mild hybrid powertrain featuring 963bhp, I don't see anything this car is lacking of. Instead of sporting a single focal point, as in the case with most other cars, there isn't any on the LaFerrari. Well, the only one perhaps, is its canopy like roof that seems quite interesting to me. In short, this is one dream Italian prancing horse built in Maranello. Some other models such as the Ferrari 458 Spider and the Ferrari FF were also built in the aforementioned Italian city. The Ferrari LaFerrari has been detailed perfectly by means of carbon fibre material. As far as design is concerned, it seems to me that the only thing which can outdo the design is the car's stunning performance with a top speed of 350km/h and an ability to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just less than 3 seconds. As mentioned earlier, the LaFerrari is a hybrid model which means it carries a V12 petrol engine along with an electric motor. The Italian automaker is planning to sell no more than 499 units of its latest supercar - which happens to be the company's first hybrid prancing horse. Well, it seems quite a good idea to bring the model to China - through the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show - as the country may be able to 'swallow' all units of the model based on financial ability. That also leads to figuring out the actual number of units that will actually see the land of the Far East. That said, I believe that there'll be some for the Middle East to 'consume' as well. Regarding the price, as far as I know, Ferrari will stick a price tag ranging somewhere around
  22. Just four days ago, I wrote of the Dubai Police Department adding the Chevrolet Camaro and the million dollar Lamborghini Aventador as a cop 'cruiser' car. Now another set of wheels from another Italian marque joins the Aventador, in its quest to cruise around the affluent city streets to promote the area's image as a mecca for money - The Ferrari FF. The FF is a two-door, four-wheel drive shooting brake which sits four in some of the finest leather offered by the Maranello factory. If memory serves, the FF was an attempt by Ferrari to answer customers' calls for a family cruiser that is suitable for most weather, rain or snow with comfort with adequate boot space for your ski equipment. It measures 4,907mm long, sits 1,953mm wide and stands 1,379mm tall and is powered by a 6.3-litre NA V12 - akin to the F12berlinetta - which produces 651 prancing Italian horses and 683Nm of torque good for a 335km/h top speed.
  23. Wah..spotted this gem when I go for vechicle inspection !
  24. This guy might own a Ferrari F430, but he clearly does not know how to record a video. Nonetheless, this rather interesting video of a young kid piloting a F430 around a (thankfully) empty neighbourhood in India with an even younger passenger who is probably his brother - has surfaced on the webosphere. As mentioned earlier, the video is really shaky - much worse than the movie Cloverfield, but after watching, I have a couple of questions - Is the father a bad parent for letting his young son drive a Ferrari? Whatever reasons the father has for his actions, I don't reckon it was a wise move to record the video. And even if he decide to, perhaps keeping it personal instead of publicising it would have been better. And aren't you guys surprised the kid actually managed to drive quite well? I mean he can barely see out of the windscreen yet he could control, brake and move over speed humps well. For me, I'm quite on the fence. I am rather surprised the kid didn't crash the car, and controlled the 483bhp car rather well. I mean when I was his age, I could barely drive proper on my PlayStation. Despite this, if the father really wanted to let his son experience the power of Italian exotics he shouldn't have recorded a video to publicise it to the entire world. You know what they say - do what you want, just don't get caught. I wonder what happens when a Ferrari employee watches the video. Maybe they should consider the kid as a young race driver. On a side note, couldn't the kid wear something nicer than that Ben 10 sleeveless tee? He is an Internet star after all.
