However he was infected with chicken pox and had been quarantined for the past 2 weeks and currently still on M.C. Any advice he could talk to the traffic police on the above case. Thanks

  4. ATHENS: Greece's state competition watchdog has fined British energy giant BP and Anglo-Dutch counterpart Royal Dutch Shell nearly 50 million euros (US$63 million) for price-fixing, the body said on Tuesday. The two companies had a "concerted practice" of setting discount policy in gas stations around the country, which amounted to price-fixing, the competition commission ruled. At a November 20 meeting, the commission voted by majority to slap a 30-million fine on BP Hellas and a 19.7-million fine on Shell Hellas. "The commission found that (the two companies) had no intention of competing against each other and converged their net wholesale prices through proportionally adjusted discounts," the watchdog said. Failure to comply with the ruling within 90 days will incur an additional penalty of 10,000 euros per day, the commission added. The ruling is open to appeal at Greece's administrative courts. - AFP/de Any chance it happening here??? Price Fixing high chance will happen. Fine? No Way...

  6. Accident lands woman in hospital... Unpaid parking fines land her in court Miss Singh said that she felt she shouldn't have to pay any fine as she did not park her bike at the carpark. SHE was hospitalised for 10 days after a road accident and almost ended up in trouble with the law - all because of her damaged motorcycle. When Miss Sheetal Singh, 26, was discharged, she found she had been booked for parking offences. Her motorcycle, which had been towed to a nearby carpark after the accident, had no parking coupons. The customer service officer did not pay the fines, which eventually snowballed to $900. When she was summoned to court, she failed to turn up and a warrant of arrest was issued for her. The mess she landed herself in was finally sorted out last month and the fines were waived. Miss Singh's problems started on 15 Oct last year, when her motorbike skidded on the Pan-Island Expressway near the Adam Road exit as she swerved to avoid hitting a car. 'I fell on my back and injured my right leg,' she said. Her badly damaged bike was towed to the Adam Road Food Centre carpark by the Expressway Monitoring Advisory System (Emas) crew. A Land Transport Authority spokesman said that it is standard procedure for the crew from Emas to tow an accident vehicle to the nearest designated carpark - with the owner or a representative present. He said that Miss Singh's boyfriend signed a form that day to acknowledge that he would take over her bike. The boyfriend claimed he did not recall signing anything. Four days later, her boyfriend removed the bike. Apparently, he had tried removing it earlier, but could not start it. On 13 Nov, Miss Singh received parking summonses for three days, 15 to 17 Oct, amounting to $24. She called the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) that day and was told to go to its office to file an appeal. When she said she could not move about because of her leg injury, the officer told her he would call her back. She claimed he never did and she forgot about the matter. Then, from December, a series of correspondence between her and the URA - and with both parties waiting for the matter to be resolved - eventually led to Miss Singh getting a summons this February to appear in court, and a letter in May informing her that her fines had snowballed to $900, including a penalty for being absent in court. On 21 May, she was issued with a warrant of arrest. She was also told to surrender herself to the Warrant Enforcement Unit at the Police Cantonment Complex, which she did two days later. A month later, Miss Singh went to the URA office and was advised to pay $600 first to remove the 'tagging' on her motorbike by URA before she could renew her road tax. 'But I feel I should not even pay a cent as I did not park my bike there,' she said. Responding to The New Paper's queries, URA said it has reviewed her case, waived her fines and told the police to withhold the warrant of arrest. [sweatdrop]
  7. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Malaysian motorists who have been slapped with traffic summonses will get a partial reprieve from Tuesday: the compound fines for these offences will be halved, said the police. But those facing serious offences will not be spared, said Federal traffic chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Hamza Taib. He said the move was to ease the burden on the lower income group after the recent price hike in petroleum and food items. The 50 per cent discount applies only to those who get on-the-spot summons and they must pay up within 30 days. 'Offenders who have yet to pay their summons and have not received letters summoning them to court are eligible for a 30 per discount,' he told reporters on Monday at the Traffic Police Headquarters, Bukit Aman. 'Those who have received the court summons are not eligible for any discount.' Traffic offenders receiving their summons via the post are eligible for a 30 per cent discount regardless of when it was issued. He said the discount offer was ongoing and no deadline had been set. Asked if the discounts would encourage motorists to flout traffic laws, he said police were confident the gesture would spur them to learn from their mistakes and not repeat them. 'Even before this, the rich might not think much of paying a RM300 (S$124.71) fine. Our focus is to try and ease the burden on the lower- and middle-class group,' he said. He said those issued summonses during Ops Sikap, for jumping the red light, for accidents as well as those issued arrest warrants were not eligible for a discount. SAC Hamza said he was confident that the new incentive could help improve the summons payment rate, recorded at 70 per cent at the end of last year. He added that about 12,000 traffic summonses for various offences were issued every day nationwide. My Garmen Sg Garmen

  13. Hi all, Just thought of sharing this unpleasant experience with you. I was driving up to Malaysia this morning and was stopped by the police at Tapah on the NSH. As I didn't feel like bribing the police today (Malay puasa lah, so shouldn't make them sin), so I asked that guy to issue me a ticket instead. That guy was so pissed he asked for my I/C, licence etc etc.. and really delayed me big time. When I reached my destination, I promptly went to the Police station to pay my fine. I was very very surprised that they ran up a list of traffic fines that I've incurred recently. Fines that I thought I had 'settled' on the spot. When I politely asked that I thought these fines were 'settled' with the officer there, the police officer asked if i had engaged in bribery. I LL, but say no money today and will pay in JB. Hell no! I won't pay!! Don't think I will drive up till I change car. So a learning to all brothers here, don't think you 'settled' means its over.
  14. [shocked] 800,000 x local postage $0.26 = $208,000 spent to ask for payment.... SINGAPORE: The National Library Board (NLB) plans to send out 800,000 mailers to remind its patrons to pay their outstanding library dues. NLB says the mailers are being sent out to all patrons who still have outstanding dues, regardless of amount or date incurred. It says it has to do this in fairness to patrons who have been paying their dues on time. NLB plans to carry out this mailing exercise once every quarter.

  18. Recently, there had been many news of car accidents which was basically caused by reckless driving. Personally, I have seen drivers who drive dangerously like driving through traffic lights which just turned red, stopping suddenly with giving advanced warnings, or just changed lanes abruptly. Is it because our current penalties for flouting traffic rules are too light and is not effective as a deterrent?

  20. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...=nation&focus=1 Lower traffic fines By MARC LOURDES KUALA LUMPUR: Police have slashed traffic fines by as much as RM200 to encourage offenders to pay their summonses. Another effect of this reduction will be less corruption as offenders will have fewer reasons to offer bribes to traffic cops. The new rates came into effect yesterday. With the exception of non-compoundable offences such as fatal accidents, drink driving, underage driving, reckless driving, driving without insurance and illegal racing, the fines for most offences have been reduced. The biggest cut went to fines for motorcyclists involved in road accidents. Having to pay RM300 previously, they now have to shell out only RM100. The fine for cars, taxis, vans and 4WD vehicles involved in road accidents is now RM150, and for lorries and buses RM200. A speeding ticket will now cost the driver RM90 for lorries and buses; RM70 for cars, vans, taxis and 4WD vehicles; and RM50 for motorcycles. Previously the fine was RM150. Drivers and front-seat passengers who don
  21. From the Newpaper today ( 23-10-02 ) Do you want to check if you have any outstanding traffic fines in Malaysia ? If so, just step up to any AXS electronic terminal - right here in Singapore. And if you do have any fines, you can pay them on the spot. So, wherre are these AXS stations ? There are 140 of them around Singapore, in petrol kiosks, shopping centres and community clubs, report the Berita Harian. The AXS stations are part of an electronic payment network that was launched last year, which allows users to pay a variety of bills. The new service is supplied by Dataline Services Pte Ltd. A Dataline spokesman said the Malaysian traffic fine payment service was introduced on Monday. He said "We see this is an opportunity as there are a lot of unpaid fines. Among the reasons people give for not settling their fines are that it is time consuming, and they do not know how to go about it. To use the service, you just have to enter the services menu at an AXS station and opt for the service MY-Fines. Payments can be made in cash or via ATM cards. Every fine payment transaction has a $ 15 service charge. And you can pay several fines in one transaction. Fines are paid in Singapore dollars based on the exchange rate stated at the AXS station.
