  1. It looks like the Ferrari FF is not the only supercar that is susceptible to spontaneous combustion. In what is believed to be the first fire incident involving a Lamborghini Aventador, the raging bull caught fire on California Route 73 South past El Toro Rd near Newport Beach recently. The entire episode was filmed on how the fire department had the blaze under control. The incident occurred when the driver was taking the Aventador out for a test drive. It is unclear what caused the fire but according to the initial report, the left rear wheel was engulfed in flames, which then consumed the entire car. The experts

  3. [extract] A Ferrari FF owner in Shanghai has to endure the pain of watching his pride possession of 5.3 million Yuan goes up in flames. The incident took place near the Shanghai World Expo Avenue in China. This is not the first time the 6.3 liter V12 supercar has caught fire spontaneously. In one such rare incident, a Ferrari FF caught fire near Frankfurt on a German autobahn some time end of last year. According to reports, this unfortunate FF was travelling at a low speed on the Shanghai World Expo Avenue when the incident occurred. The Chinese media are speculating that the Ferrari
  4. Two lawmakers prodded the bankruptcy trustee in charge of unwinding MF Global Holdings Ltd. to drop his plan to pay bonuses to top executives who were at the securities firm when it collapsed. In a letter to former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Louis Freeh, Sen. Jon Tester (D., Mont.) said it would be "outrageous" to proceed with a proposal to a bankruptcy judge that could result in payouts of several hundred thousand dollars each for MF Global's chief operating officer, finance chief and general counsel. The size of the bonuses would depend on their job performance in helping Mr. Freeh maximize value for creditors of the company. "Rather than reward executives in the hopes of being able to pay back creditors, I urge you to forgo executive bonuses and instead use these funds to repay the farmers and ranchers whose trust was so betrayed by MF Global," Mr. Tester wrote. "I look forward to your reconsideration of this decision." Montana is home to farmers and ranchers who invested in the futures market through MF Global but are likely to suffer losses because of the estimated $1.6 billion shortfall in customer accounts that emerged after the New York company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 31. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Mr. Freeh is planning to ask the bankruptcy-court judge in charge of the case to approve potential bonuses for Bradley I. Abelow, Henri J. Steenkamp and Laurie R. Ferber, according to people familiar with the situation. The payouts likely would be made in pieces throughout 2012. As many as 20 or so other MF Global employees now working for Mr. Freeh also would be eligible for possible bonuses. Details could be filed as soon as this month. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.) said in a separate letter to Mr. Freeh that the plan is "unacceptable" until numerous civil and criminal investigations into MF Global's demise are finished and missing customer money is found. She is a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, which is conducting a probe of the financial firm's demise. "These same executives were at the helm of MF Global when it collapsed," Ms. Klobuchar wrote. "Issuing bonuses with the company's holdings sends the wrong message to customers already skeptical of the bankruptcy process." A spokesman for Mr. Freeh said Sunday in a statement that "the trustee has noted the comments" made by the senators, but "has not made any decisions" on the bonuses. He described the issue as one that comes up "routinely" in Chapter 11 cases. A lawyer working for Mr. Freeh on the case also said Friday that keeping current staff is the "most cost-effective way" to protect the interests of creditors snarled by MF Global's bankruptcy. Without help from Messrs. Abelow and Steenkamp and Ms. Ferber, Mr. Freeh likely would have to spend more on accountants and consultants to sift through MF Global's tangled financial statements, according to people close to Mr. Freeh. The three executives are the highest-ranking MF Global employees among about 300 still working at what is left of the company. Chief Executive Jon S. Corzine, the former New Jersey governor and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. chairman whose bets on bonds of troubled European countries led to a run on MF Global last fall, resigned in November. Mr. Tester said federal bankruptcy law limits Mr. Freeh's ability to reward bonuses to former MF Global executives who kept their jobs. Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, raised similar concerns in a statement Friday. U.S. law sharply restricts "retention" bonuses to executives for sticking with distressed companies. Some companies in bankruptcy cases carefully craft "incentive" plans with specific performance targets to avoid running afoul of the law. Mr. Freeh's bonus plan at MF Global would likely need to include performance-based targets deemed challenging enough for a judge to conclude that the proposal is an "incentive" plan rather than "retention" payouts for Messrs. Abelow and Steenkamp, Ms. Ferber and the other employees who could get bonuses. A lawyer for Mr. Abelow declined to comment. After the Chapter 11 filing, Mr. Abelow agreed to cut his annual salary to $60,000. For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011, he got total compensation of $7.6 million, including a salary of $829,545, according to a securities filing. A lawyer for Mr. Steenkamp couldn't be reached. Last week, a lawyer for Ms. Ferber told the Journal she is "working hard to assist the trustee" in the bankruptcy case. Her "personal interests are completely aligned with those of MF Global," the lawyer added. The attorney declined further comment No one at MF Global has been charged with wrongdoing. Messrs. Corzine, Abelow and Steenkamp told lawmakers last late year they didn't do anything improper and were uncertain exactly how the shortfall occurred. While MF Global customers have received varying amounts of their money back, many have received about 72 cents for every dollar they had at the securities firm when it collapsed. Prosecutors, regulators and others have been interviewing MF Global employees, but hopes for more recoveries have dimmed. Chevrolet Volt

The Chevrolet Volt has become a political punching bag as the Republicans accused the Obama administration of hiding fire risks from the public. In response, General Motors (GM) says that the administration has no seat on the board and no influence over business decisions. The automaker added that its signature electric vehicle got unfairly caught in political crosswinds. Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Oversight regulatory subcommittee, said it was disturbing that U.S. safety regulators waited six months to open a formal investigation after their own crash tests uncovered fire risks. He speculated that the administration may have been preserving its own interests as President Barack Obama has heavily promoted electric vehicles like the Volt, and his administration oversaw a U.S. government bailout and bankruptcy restructuring of GM in 2009. GM Chief Executive, Dan Akerson, told the hearing that the Volt got "disproportionate scrutiny" because it became a surrogate for election-year politics and commentary on GM's business and Obama administration policy. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation on 25 November 11 into the safety of the Volt's battery pack after its own repeated tests uncovered fire risks. The fires occurred after NHTSA crash tests or other tests where the car's lithium-ion batteries were purposely damaged, and GM has stressed that no "real world" incidents have been reported. General Motors has sold more than 8,000 Volts, including 1,500 in December 2011, its best month so far. Another 6,500 units have been manufactured. All will undergo retrofits to provide better protection for the battery in event of a crash. GM will also take steps to reduce chances of coolant leaks, which can trigger fires.

The man was apparently drunk, said the STOMPer. Said the STOMPer: "On Sunday (Jan 8) around 1pm, a man was stepping on the accelerator of his stationary car for a good 20 minutes non-stop. "Inside his car he was using his mobile phone and exercising in a lying down position . "He stopped ramming the pedal after there was visible fire from his car's exhaust pipe. "I called the police who arrived super fast with the entire SCDF team. "The man refused to open the door, but once the police officer took out his baton he opened it. "The Singapore police force was very efficient. "The man (in black) seemed to be drunk. "And since I live on the second storey of a nearby block, I could hear him saying that he was asleep in his car." A spokesperson from the police says: "Police received a call on Jan 8 at about 1.15 pm requesting for assistance at a carpark near block 132 Yishun Street 11. "It was established that an Indian man in his mid 20s was found sleeping inside his vehicle. "He was subsequently conveyed to KTPH for medical examination." 8. http://health.asiaone.com/Health/Health%2B...205-314401.html A man from Shaanxi, China, doused his daughter with kerosene before setting her on fire after an argument with his estranged wife. Chinese website ChinaSmack reported that the three-year-old girl suffers from burns on 14 per cent of her body. Third-degree burns make up 2.5 per cent of the damage while the remaining burns are second-degree ones. The girl, referred to as Niu Niu, is disfigured and her hands cannot function normally. On November 19, her father, Cao Xiaoming allegedly flew into a rage after he had a disagreement with his wife, Ms Xiao Juan over divorcing him. Ms Xiao said she wanted to leave him because of his bad temper, violent ways and excessive gambling. She said Cao would beat her if they had disagreements, sometimes using stools and sticks. Ms Xiao told ChinaSmack: "Whenever he runs out of money, he'll call me, and if I don't give it to him, I'll be beaten. Cao also stole and gambled away "good luck money" which Ms Xiao's family had given her when Niu Niu turned 100 days old. She added that she would give him all of her salary but he would not care for Niu Niu and her, sometimes leaving them without any food to eat. KNNBCCB!!!!!!
  9. BMW has issued a recall of five different model lines covering the years 2008-2011 due to a fire risk. Turbocharged eight- and twelve-cylinder engines in the 5 Series, 5 Series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X5 and X6 could suffer from overheating circuit boards that control the electric auxiliary water pump. The overheating board could cause the pump to smoulder, and in extreme cases among the 102 failures, BMW has found there were two engine compartment fires. BMW will send recall notices for 32,000 vehicles and dealers will replace the pump free of charge. News Source: NHTSA
  10. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...r_under_it.html suspect burning incense paper under the taxi caused the fire STOMPer Jason saw a parked taxi catch fire at Bedok. The cause of this was probably the burning offerings on the carpark kerb, said the STOMPer. Jason related over the phone (Aug 28): "This happened near the Bedok North 511 market today, around 6.15pm. "At first, the fire was small, then within three minutes, it became a big blaze. "Firemen on motorbikes arrived at the scene within three minutes, and managed to control the fire. "Shortly after, a Red Rhino and a fire engine arrived at the scene too. "The taxi driver was not present at the scene -- he must have parked there to go have dinner at the nearby market. "I believe the cause might have been the candles and other burning offerings on the kerb. "These were directly under the parked taxi -- and the taxi was parked properly. "They should not have burnt the offerings so near to the carpark. "Either this was the cause, or burning ash from nearby offerings could have blown over and also sparked the fire. "The taxi's two rear tyres were burnt, and the boot also had holes caused by the blaze. "The whole incident took about half an hour. "I also saw the firemen trying to find the taxi driver's particulars to contact him."

  15. Last night there was 2 accidents at the CTE - SLE intersection, causing an epic jam. One accident vehicle was a burnt out Wish. Nowadays, it seems quite a few vehicles have been catching fire. I wonder why this is so? Is it a lucky hit in the petrol tank? Or were fuel lines ruptured in the accident? Does the fire start slowly or does the car go ka-boom?
  16. An SMRT bus caught fire along the BKE this morning (Apr 17). Two STOMPers managed to snap pictures of the incident. One of the STOMPers, concerned, said: "A bus had caught fire on the BKE after the Mandai exit. Only the shell remaining -- perhaps the petrol tank caught fire." STOMPer Sajjad, who also saw the fire, said: "I first saw the bus on fire at about 8am. Then, on my way home at 11.30am, I saw the remains of the bus. "I wonder what happened. SCDF officers managed to put out the fire within 10 minutes. There were no casualties in the incident.
  17. Is it just me or do we keep getting near misses news from Qantas?? I'm personally not ever flying this airline again. Qantas plane lands after cockpit fire AFP | Thu, Mar 24 2011 There were 'no ill effects or injuries' experienced by passengers and crew on the Manila-Sydney flight. Qantas plane lands after cockpit fire The plane was en route from Manila to Sydney on Wednesday afternoon when an electrical fault caused smoke and small flames near the left-hand windscreen of the cockpit. The pilots used an extinguisher to douse the fire and diverted to Cairns, in tropical north Queensland. "There were no ill effects or injuries experienced by any of the 147 passengers or 11 crew, and all passengers were accommodated on other domestic services to complete their journey to Sydney," Qantas said in a statement. A passenger told The Sydney Morning Herald that the incident was "truly scary". "There was a burning smell in the cabin that was very strong, and then the captain came over the loudspeaker and explained an electrical problem meant there was a serious risk of fire," he said. "Later he explained flames had come back for a second time and they'd had to use a fire extinguisher in the cockpit." Qantas has endured a string of dramatic incidents in the past few months. Last November it temporarily suspended flights of its Airbus A380 superjumbos after an engine on one exploded after taking off from Singapore, damaging the plane. Then in January, a flight bound for New York made an unscheduled stop in Fiji after the Boeing 747 developed a problem with a fuel valve supplying one of its engines. Soon after, another Boeing 747 suffered mid-air mechanical trouble soon after taking off from Bangkok and was forced to return to the Thai capital.

  23. After 11 accidents involving the newly launched 458 Italia with five of them ended up in flames, Ferrari finally decided to investigate the issue and announced a recall on their latest supercar. According to CNN, Ferrari's investigators discovered defects in the bonding adhesive used to attach the heat-shield to the wheel arch in each of the five cars that caught fire. Since the heat-shield is used to shelter the wheel arch housing from the exhaust pipe, in the event that the glue dissolves, the housing is exposed to extremely high temperatures which can activate a fire. However, the Italian company claims that it takes a combination of extreme conditions to actually cause a fire. "Heavy usage of the car, such as driving very fast down a twisty road or up a mountain, will increase the temperature inside the engine bay," the Ferrari spokeswoman said. "If that is combined with extremely high ambient temperatures, which has been the case throughout Europe especially this summer, then this will cause the defamation of the wheel arch, bringing it closer to the exhaust and causing the car to smoke or ignite." The company told the news site that it plans to recall and examine all 1,148 cars produced up to July 30 this year. The five fire-related incidents have occurred in the U.S., Britain, France, Switzerland and China. "We're contacting clients across the world to get them to bring their cars back to the dealers so we can check the wheel arch," the spokesperson said. "If necessary we will replace the heat-shield with a new heat-shield that is riveted to the wheel arch rather than attached with the adhesive."
